#Crit role fan playlist
sparring-spirals · 2 years
Note
The “sorry to everyone who came to crit role after spn” note on that post about Orym’s playlist was probably in reference to “Carry On Wayward Son” by Kansas, a classic, but one that any spn fan associates heavily with that show, I hear!
(context, although my confused tag has been updated now)
Ah, yes, thank you for the explicit clarification! :'D Both you and @bravest-notts very kindly informed me, somehow my brain fully skipped that song title when I was skimming, but I am... unfortunately online enough to understand the significance 😅
Either way, the tip is appreciated :D (and I'm publishing this in case anyone else missed it/didn't know.)

I’d like to thank anon and @lopezes for my life
song meme under the cut because I’ll probably ramble. you guys are getting why I like it, where I found it and whether it makes me think of a character cause that’s what I put in my tags and I’m a narcissist.
1: Say Amen (It’s Saturday Night) - TeraBite
I feel like a fake Panic! fan but I actually like this cover better than the original. I like their voices and the sort of tone they sing it in a little better. I think it was in my Spotify Discover? I get some character vibes from it but it’s not on any specific playlists.
2: Fake Love - Cemetery Sun
It’s such emo bullshit but I love it because it’s upbeat as hell. It was also on my Spotify Discover and it is ABSOLUTELY BatCat from Telltale’s Batman (rest in pieces Telltale) and apparently it’s on my Saints Row BossGat playlist.
3: Savior - Rise Against
Holy SHIT DO I LOVE THIS SONG. I have a thing for bullshit love songs and FUCK this one hits me real hard. I found it through this AMV and it absolutely Royai as fuck. The lyrics are PERFECT FOR THEM AND DO NOT TOUCH ME
4: Animus Vox - The Glitch Mob
This song is so fucking cool. It gives me a mechanical vibe, and all spacey and glitchy. I’m not unconvinced that I didn’t type Vox into Spotify to see if there was any songs called Vox Machina (there are several, they are not Crit Role related and they’re not my speed). It’s not any characters but it gives me such a gritty sci-fi vibe, but that’s probably because I wrote the opening chapter of my sci-fi novel for an assignment in six hours to this song. I actually wrote every assignment this semester to this song because it’s lit as fuck and has no words to get distracted to. It always amped up around submission time so I get Stressed.
5: The Rooks - ill Factor
It’s a goddamn BOP for one, and I love the kind of fight song vibe it has going for it.I. Fucking love. Assassin’s Creed. And Syndicate is my favourite in the whole goddamn series and not enough people have played it. It’s Syndicate themed so it only gives me those vibes.
6: 20 Percent Cooler - Ken Ashcorp
It’s also a hell bop. It was on my Spotify Discover as most things are. It’s about ponies and this deeply upsets me. It’s definitely a Saints Row Deckers song though, probably because of that exact reason.
11: HOLD ME TIGHT OR DON’T - Fall Out Boy
FUCK ME UP. JUST FUCK ME UP. I LOVE FALL OUT BOY AND I LOVE MANIA. IT’S MORE EMO RELATIONSHIP BULLSHIT AND I LOVE IT. Also it’s lowkey Royai. I’ve got ideas for a gifset with it for them.
25: Pull Your Circuit Breaker - Patient Zero
I really like the electrical feel it has for one, and I just like the style of the singing. It was almost certainly on my Spotify Discover because turns out the algorithm can actually be really good. It’s on my Deckers playlist. I sort of threw that together cause I had a great Deckers graphic that I felt like I needed to put more than a caption on but couldn’t think of a good one.
46: I Am Pudge -  Miracle of Sound
How the FUCK is this my 46th most listened to song what the fuck. It’s a fun song but 46???? Okay WELL I just really like the horns in it and the chorus is catchy as all hell. I found it through Miracle of Sound, who’s an AMAZING artist who makes songs for video games. It’s a Dota 2 song but I’ve never played it I just got it stuck in my head. I have nothing. What the fuck.
Here’s my full 100!

I made a playlist for my new D&D character! There’s 24 songs in the link, and I picked a few songs out of it to analyze why I chose them for this character. The rest are just songs that have general themes of fire, wandering in the wilderness, and/or ominous country music.
Way Out There - Lord Huron
I belong bodily to the earth / I'm just wearing old bones from those that came first / there are many more flames when mine is gone / they will build me no shrines and sing me no songs
He's far from anything he knew, forging a connection with the earth while he distances himself from the world and pieces himself together, bit by bit. This was the first song I shared with anyone for Stoker, before I even really picked a subclass, because it was the first I knew would fit his character.
Hymn for a Scarecrow - Tally Hall
The crows seem to know where you need them to go / igniting a spark in their minds so they circle and fly
I like the metaphor of the scarecrow for Stoker. A face that fools some, a presence that has a job to do, but inside it might just be empty. This song raises some questions about what a scarecrow might be thinking about, and suggests that only nature might know the answers. This song’s presence on the playlist got a double meaning when we fought living scarecrows in session one.
NE:ONE - Survive Said The Prophet
It's not pretending who you are / if we are the proof of what we've done
He spent a long time wondering if he should let himself just fade out. Now he’s made the choice to burn. If he goes out, he goes out in a blaze.
long long long journey - Bill Wurtz
It's been a long, long day / and we've come a long, long way / but it's a long, long, long way forward
Stoker's been traveling for a long time, and now that he's joined an adventuring party, it looks like there's a lot more travel in his future! Any other lines are absolutely irrelevant to this song being on the playlist. :)
Dead Man’s Hand - Lord Huron
Was he unforgiven or just tired of livin’ / a life that never felt like his?
Stoker did a lot of wandering before he met the party. He came across some bizarre things in his travels, and adopted the attitude that unless something is actively trying to kill you, just stay calm and leave it to do what it likes. If you don’t bother a bear, odds are it won’t bother you. If you don’t question a zombie, odds are it’ll just go on its way.
Fire - Barns Courtney
Sold my soul to the callin' / sold my soul to sweet melody / now I'm gone, now I'm gone, now I'm gone
He’s bet everything on the chance that this new path might net him a couple more chips. He’s not afraid of going bankrupt. Either he gets something out of it, or he gets to stop playing the game.
In Our Talons - Bowerbirds
It takes a lot of nerve to destroy this wondrous earth
While Stoker appreciates nature and values his time spent in the wilds, he still holds what he considers a healthy dose of wariness for what's out there. He knows that nature does not consider him exempt from harm just because he’s a Druid now. This song's lyrics are just about nature going about its business, and the melody is both beautiful and ominous.
Lonesome Dreams - Lord Huron
I watch as the planets turn / and the old stars die and the young stars burn / but I don't really know this place / and it's lonesome here in the wide-open space
This song captures where Stoker is right at the beginning of the campaign. He had started to kindle a connection with nature, and began to appreciate what he could find out about himself in the wilderness. But he starts to notice how alone he is. It doesn’t bother him. He’s sure of that. He doesn’t need friends. Definitely. Absolutely.
Inferno - Hiroyuki Sawano feat. Benjamin, mpi
Gonna square up to all of the heat that is left / so I carry the torch to inferno, inferno / it's out of the park and I'm smiling again
There was a day where I was listening to my regular playlist on shuffle and a few of Stoker’s songs came up in a row- Lonesome Dreams, Curses, Blood on my Name. And then Inferno came up next and I actually started crying imagining that song having a place in his story. Now this song is my hope for him. To find not just a happier life, but an internal purpose where fire means something different to him.
