What can I say, I love Blood Angels ❤ And I'm glad to know it's mutual because they come to my aid whenever I feel down and want to bleed inks on marker paper and mentally rave to 70s synthesizers.
And big thanks to Soyuzmultfilm for the amazing animated short inspired by Moche/Mochica mythology. It's so visually stunning and trippy and more importantly it shows proper research of the source material.

spent too long looking at busts from the late republic....the pseudo corbulo cassius one.........if I were a more dedicated student of architecture, I would do another long-ish form comic modeling cassius off of it...........................maybe.....I will combine my version of (inspired by various portrayals) cassius with it........at the very least I'll remember how to draw his hair consistently instead of going 'uhhhhh crassus is fine, actually.'

Happy birthday to Captain Thomas Lasky!
Today is his -487th birthday!
Lasky was born on Mars to a military family. His mother, Audrey Lasky, was a colonel in the UNSC, and was largely absent from the lives of Tom and his older brother, Cadmon.
Cadmon also enlisted in the UNSC and was an exemplary soldier, setting records at Corbulo Military Academy, which both Tom and Cadmon attended, albeit at different times. Despite living in his older brother's shadow, the two enjoyed a healthy relationship and communicated often. This would end when Cadmon died in an Insurrectionist attack on Andesia.
After Cadmon's death, Lasky struggled to keep up with his brother's legacy at Corbulo. His Insurrectionist sympathies, despite the circumstances of his brother's death, marked him as a pariah among his peers. He was offered a medical discharge due to his sensitivity to required cryosleep drugs, but the choice would be made for him when the Covenant attacked Corbulo Academy.
During this engagement, he was rescued by John-117 and Blue Team, and learned of the Human-Covenant war for the first time. Shortly after his rescue, he commissioned into the UNSC Navy.
After the war, he rose to the rank of commander, and was assigned to the UNSC flagship Infinity as its executive officer. CINCONI Margaret Parangosky thought highly of him, and only approved of the assignment of Captain Andrew Del Rio because Lasky was assigned as XO.
During the Requiem campaign, Infinity became trapped in a gravity well which prevented it from leaving the shield world. He activated a distress signal, which was answered by Master Chief. Once Infinity was freed and they returned to the ship, Captain Del Rio ordered Infinity to flee, and for Master Chief to surrender Cortana, who was showing signs of rampancy. When he refused, insisting that pursuing the Didact was too important, Del Rio intended to have him arrested. Instead, Master Chief disobeyed orders and left to pursue the Didact himself, with Lasky quietly assisting his old rescuer by having a Pelican readied.
Once on Earth, Del Rio was removed from duty, and Lasky took over as captain of Infinity . Six months later, Lasky returned to Requiem to secure the planet for the UNSC with the help of Commander Palmer and her Spartan-IVs. While they shared some ideological differences, the two regularly protected the other from consequences from the brass.
Requiem would prove to be more than anticipated, and he would be forced to call in the help of war prisoner Catherine Halsey. This would unfurl into a series of events wherein Halsey assisted Covenant leader Jul 'Mdama as a means to a end--the UNSC was holding her prisoner, and 'Mdama intended to follow the trail to the Absolute Record--a catalog of all Forerunner technology and devices. This lead to disagreement between Lasky and Palmer, as Lasky wanted to spare the doctor, and Palmer wanted to carry out orders to execute her.
Eventually, Fireteam Osiris would rescue Halsey, just in time for Lasky to call on her once again to assist them in stopping Cortana and her Guardians. In 2560, Lasky and Infinity pursued Cortana to Zeta Halo, but were ambushed by the Banished. Infinity was under heavy assault, and Lasky commanded the crew to abandon ship. He escaped on a lifeboat to the surface, but his current status is unknown.
In canon (~2560), he is turning 50!

Obverse: portrait of Nero, NEO CAESAR AUGUSTUS. Reverse: The Temple of Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and endings. Traditionally, the temple was open during times of war and closed when peace was restored. Nero celebrates this rare occurrence by depicting the temple with closed doors.
Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (15 December AD 37 – 9 June AD 68) was the fifth Roman emperor and final emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty, reigning from AD 54 until his death in AD 68.
Nero was born at Antium in AD 37, the son of Gnaeus Domitius Ahenobarbus and Agrippina the Younger, a great-granddaughter of the emperor Augustus. When Nero was two, his father died. His mother married the emperor Claudius, who adopted Nero as his heir. When Claudius died in AD 54, Nero became emperor with the support of the Praetorian Guard and Senate. In the early years of his reign, Nero was advised and guided by his mother Agrippina, his tutor Seneca the Younger, and his praetorian prefect Sextus Afranius Burrus, but soon sought to rule independently and rid himself of restraining influences. His power struggle with his mother was eventually resolved when he had her murdered. Roman sources implicate Nero in the deaths of both his wife Claudia Octavia – supposedly so he could marry Poppaea Sabina – and his step brother Britannicus.
During Nero's reign, the general Corbulo fought the Roman–Parthian War of 58–63, and made peace with the hostile Parthian Empire. The Roman general Suetonius Paulinus quashed a major revolt in Britain led by queen Boudica. The Bosporan Kingdom was briefly annexed to the empire, and the First Jewish–Roman War began. When the Roman senator Vindex rebelled, with support from the eventual Roman emperor Galba, Nero was declared a public enemy and condemned to death in absentia. He fled Rome, and on 9 June AD 68 committed suicide. His death sparked a brief period of civil war known as the Year of the Four Emperors.

Pull the plug
The Sanguinary Priests have to coax him, rickety and wobbling, out of his chambers with a large cup full of blood and a voxcaster playing soothing church hymns. No one is allowed to move behind him suddenly lest he be startled and kick the unfortunate person in the head. (It happened to Corbulo, that's why his mini's face looks Like That.)

His first mission was the rescue of the students of Corbulo Academy. Only Lasky came out alive.
The UNSC wanted to atone for the Spartan-II and III Programs. With Doctor Miranda Keyes at the helm, she created the Spartan-IV Program after the Human-Covenant War; Buck takes pride in being the first Spartan-IV, having been the first to volunteer for the program when it kicked off AND the first one to come out a Spartan.

Mark V[B] armour core
The Mark V[B] is generally loved by most of halos playerbase from its use in halo reach, the fan favourite instalment allowed players to modify their armour in the campaign, this in turn let players have a more individualised experience of halo in comparison to the mainline games. My mark 5 is pretty different to most of my other spartan builds, I normally don’t really go for the bulky builds instead opting for a more UNSC accurate looking spartan. However, me thinks I hit the mark on this build, finding a sweet spot between the two. Hope you guys like it!🙏

While its physical architecture is derived from the Mark IV[B], the Mark V[B] was the first mainline model of the MJOLNIR Powered Assault Armor to incorporate energy shielding technology. The Mark V[B] is largely similar to the final version of the Mark V. The only major difference between the two is the [B] variant's lack of an accompanying upgrade to the wearer's neural lace enabling the wearer to interface with a smart AI. This did not come to fruition until John-117 and Cortana successfully tested the final Mark V on August 29, 2552.
The Mark V[B] was manufactured by private organizations contracted by the UNSC rather than developed by the Materials Group as was typical for most other Mjolnir designs. The development of Mark V[B] was conducted in secret, with its prototypes tested by Spartan-III personnel.
The Mark IV[B]'s first known use was by Frederic-104 during an operation against Insurrectionists sometime before the Battle of Circinius IV on April 26, 2526. Fred continued to wear the armor during this battle when Blue Team was sent to evacuate the survivors from the Corbulo Academy of Military Science. The Mark V[B] entered service with the Spartan-IIs and select Spartan-IIIs on November 24, 2551.

We meet the first doctor from our hospital - a hemotransfusiologist Corbulo. He is responsible for the transfusion of blood and its components, makes sure that there is always blood in the hospital. Cute lamb with character)

There is a fair amount of flirting and “married people talk” in For Better Or Worse, none of it is descriptive.
Spoilers for Forward Unto Dawn abound in both stories, but after the infamous Lasky Not-Smut Reblog Chain, I don’t think that’s going to stop anyone. However there may be some parts of the fics that don't make sense if you haven't seen FUD. Like Chyler. So, maybe at least go to her Halopedia if you don't want to be completely confused.

“I was going to leave Corbulo the next morning,” Tom said.
“You weren’t going to leave.”
Tom clasped his hands around her waist. “I wasn’t?”
“You weren’t,” Chyler said with certainty. “You can’t walk away once the gauntlet is thrown, Tom. It’s the same reason…” she took a long breath and sighed it out. “The same reason you wouldn’t sign the divorce papers. I think I knew that all along.”
“I guess you’re right, I would have stayed,” Tom conceded. “I had just kissed this pretty girl. I was already thinking I was gonna marry her.”
“Oh, stop it, you were not.” Chyler swatted his hand.
“Yes, I was.” Tom smiled. “Always a step ahead, right?” He sobered. “So was it worth it? You know…everything?”
“I don’t know if ‘worth it’ is the right way of thinking,” Chyler said contemplatively. “We took something bad and made something good out of it.” She smiled up at him. “What better way to stick it to the Covenant?”
“Yeah.” Tom smiled back. “What better way?”

Halo Cookbook post...
Here's the thing, Halo blog, it would be incredibly easy to dunk on the Official Halo Cookbook. We've all been doing it since it was announced. I certainly have. But here's the other thing, Halo blog: It's October 31st, everything is cold and miserable and wet, and... I don't know.
I just don't feel much like dunking.
The Halo Cookbook, unlike most of what I've been looking at lately, was put together by a single, identifiable author instead of a group. Here's an interview about it. Tl;dr: She loves finding mentions of food in video games, it's genuinely pretty endearing to me. Most of the mentions of food we get in Halo are in background details of a few restaurants, and offhand mentions (usually of things people miss) so there's not much to work with here, and that explains how kind of weird this is as a food book.
(That link also has some of the interior art, which is nice but the kindle format does it no favors.)
The recipes are grouped based on places where its in-universe writer, Arturo, encountered them. The Vending Machines section in particular is pretty funny, but also.... yeah, we're talking about food seen in Halo background details here. So, sure.
You could fill a thimble with what I know about cooking (it's embarrassing honestly) so I cannot really provide much about the food itself, but I do know lore.
So, here's the lore.
Our man is Arturo, who used to work for a large fruit vending corporation. Since retiring, he has decided to write a cookbook collecting recipes he encountered in his travels.
It's pretty wild jumping out of that intro into our first section: World Cuisine (courtesy of Halo: Reach). That's kind of par of the course.
In-universe writing about a chain restaurant on a dead planet, there u have it, folks.
Even the Halo Cookbook recognizes that some of this is also kind of silly:

Happy birthday to Commander Michael "Sully" Sullivan!
Today is his -487th birthday!
Sullivan enrolled in Corbulo Academy of Military Science and was assigned to Hastati squad alongside Thomas Lasky, whom he befriended. He was not proficient in combat exercises but had a knack for hacking. After the Covenant attack on Corbulo Academy and his subsequent rescue by Blue Team, he joined the UNSC Navy.
While initially a cheerful teenager, the attack hardened him, and he developed the opinion that humanity should defeat the Covenant by any means necessary. This ideology, and his skills as a hacker, caught the attention of the Office of Naval Intelligence, who assigned him to Section One--its intelligence gathering division.
In 2558, Sullivan approached reporter Benjamin Giraud with an offer to conduct a series of interviews about the Master Chief. This, of course, was a propaganda front, and Giraud was fed false sources who would corroborate ONI's claim that Master Chief enlisted in the Spartans. ONI never intended to reveal the actual origins of the SPARTAN-IIs and intended to use Giraud to legitimize the story they created.
After uncovering information that conflicted with ONI's story, Giraud contacted Sullivan several times to confront him with the discrepancies. Sullivan maintained that any discrepancy was the result of bad records. Eventually, Giraud would stop trusting Sullivan and begin his own investigation, which would culminate into revealing the truth during a conference between ONI and the UEG. When Sullivan discovered this, he had Giraud captured and sent to Midnight Facility. Post-war, he was promoted to Senior Communications Director for ONI Section Two--its propaganda division.
In canon (~2560), he is turning 50!
