Newly Processed!
We’ve just finished processing the records of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Wellesley Hills. Totaling 87 boxes, the collection includes general church records, scrapbooks, photographs, and the records of previous ministers of the congregation.
Among some of the ministers who served at Wellesley Hills are Waitstill Sharp, who helped save thousands of Jewish children and intellectuals in Europe during the Nazi regime, and William Rice, who brokered the Unitarian Universalist merger and co-founded Human Relations Service, Inc., the first community mental health agency in the US.

City of Valleys 61
Another June Steven Steven unlocked his front door. The light he had left on in the kitchen was burned out. It went on when he tried it. He must have forgotten to turn it before he left.  Church Street had been thick with fags and dykes and far too many couples. Still the crowd energy reassured him. He was no longer the one queer in the world. There were thousands of them out there who enjoyed…

Okay okay, so this wasn't a delivery person, but it was somebody scooting about grooving with headphones and no helmet, just vibing. They were hand dancing, yes, but sometimes the music do be that good. I've never ridden a scooter so I have no idea if you need both hands all the time or not. This was over in the Church Wellesley Village area, across the street from Storm Crow Manor! We were perusing some kinda outdoor queer market thing. It was cute and fine and sunny. Made them a rhino, because they just seemed wholly unconcerned about collisions >_<

Each year Canada welcomes thousands of refugees who have fled everything from war to political unrest. For some newcomers, they’ve come to the country for a different reason: to be able to live a life true to themselves.
The 519 is located in the Church-Wellesley Village, which is home to Toronto’s 2SLGBTQ+ communities. It serves as a hub for Queer people of all walks of life, offering a wide range of services. The community agency is hoping to highlight the supports available for 2SLGBTQ+ refugees.
Gloria Godwin claimed asylum in Canada in 2019. In her home country of Nigeria, she was faced with a distressing ultimatum: stay and be imprisoned, or leave and be free.
“It’s against the law to be an LGBTQ person in my country, and if you are caught, you’ll definitely go to jail for 14 years. It wasn’t safe for me and at the time I was caught,” Godwin said. [...]

You wash your bedsheets once a week. Pulling them erotic from the tight corners of your mattress is a second undressing. Throw a pod in, feel bad about it. You’ll get laundry sheets next time.
You stretch in the morning sun because you feel obligated. It does feel good, but you wonder if it’s picturesque. If this moment was captured on film would it serve cunt? You don’t own a tripod out of self-preservation, but more often than not you’re outside yourself anyway.
You do a sun salutation in a non-racist way.
When pride month started people were on edge. Finality was palpable, being jaded was a balm. You’re scared too, but you’re not surprised. In Toronto you felt it too, that first feeling of crossing into Church and Wellesley now sun-faded. The leather boy advertising outside of Sailor hit on you and made you give him your number. Eating a vegan burger in an Amsterdam window-patio, you were your very own pride commercial. Make sure the sidewalk sees your good side.
You pass the fetish gear store because they carry sexy Trudeau merch. Gear refuses to flatter the contours of your body anyway, a damning judgment of not enough self-flagellation or betterment. Luckily, you exist just outside the YMCA low-income support program range, a cosmic something or other. Cruising isn’t your speed anymore anyway.
You expect more out of people who’ve experienced ego death. You pick at your cuticles. Thank god you still bleed.

Ace&Aro self-love poetry workshop (Feb 11, 2-4:30pm) -- no ASL interpretation
For this Sunday's in-person meetup for ace and/or arospec (and questioning folks), Toronto Aces & Aros is bringing you a poetry workshop about self-love by one of our members. Free to attend and no prior experience necessary!
(We will be rescheduling the zine-making for another time when we can arrange ASL interpretation.)
Self-love poetry workshop Sunday, February 11, 2024 (2-4:30pm) 519 Church St., room 304
** Workshop Description**
This workshop (by Jamie Quinn Mader) allows participants to explore poetry & creative writing around self-love by crafting love letters to ourselves.
So often love poetry is about obsession with romantic partners or people we wish to be with. This poetry focuses on our relationships with ourselves and invites participants to think of themselves as desirable & loveable to ourselves.
This workshop guides participants through a few activities to help them:
to understand the mechanics of poetry
to foster a sense of compassion and care for themselves rather than a romantic partner.
Participants will be able to work with their peers as well as present any works they want to share.
** Accessibility at the 519 **
ramp to enter, power doors, elevator inside and accessible all-gender washrooms
near Wellesley station (which has an elevator)
we ask everyone to wear masks

National Coming Out Day
Take the leap to come out of the closet and be proudly yourself, or get involved to help others take this often scary, important step towards living authentically.
For time out of mind members of the LGBTQ community have had to hide in fear for their livelihood and their lives. A constant fear of being rejected by friends and loved ones, as well as the community of which they are a part, has led to many of them remaining in the proverbial closet.
This means living a half-life at best, and hiding who you are from those who should be nearest and dearest to you. National Coming Out Day challenges this ancient standard, and encourages LGBTQ people everywhere to stand proud and claim who they are, and thus reclaim their lives and sense of pride.
Learn about National Coming Out Day
National Coming Out Day is not just a day that has been designed to help people feel comfortable about coming out about their sexuality. It is also a day that is designed to applaud people for their bravery, as well as help create awareness of the struggles and difficulties those in the LGBTQ community experience.
Even if you are heterosexual, you can use this day as an opportunity to let people in the LGBTQ community know that you support them and that you are proud of them. It is a day of unity and respect.
History of National Coming Out Day
It all started at… well… let’s be honest it all started pretty much at the dawn of time. Throughout the world people and cultures everywhere have had LGBTQ people in their midst, and in many of them they were openly accepted and embraced as natural, or even sacred people in their cultures. In the last couple hundred years the majority of the world’s leading cultures began to villainize them, growing worse with every passing year.
But in the last few decades all that has begun to change, courageous members of the LGBTQ community fought and worked to help gain their rightful place in the world, accepted as just another person rather than some kind of monster or dangerous pervert. Really, the battle they fight is for something much simpler, the ability to have a safe and normal life enjoying the same liberty as their more socially accepted neighbors.
National Coming Out Day was created by Rob Eichberg and Jean O’Leary as a result of the 500,000 person March on Washington DC for Lesbian and Gay Rights. The experience was enough to vitalize them and lead them to establish this holiday, which encourages all LGBTQ people and their allies to stand proud of who they are and to fight for a more equal tomorrow.
Every year there is a different theme, and so we definitely recommend taking a look at the theme for the current year when it is released. Some of the different themes that there have been include Talk About It, It’s a Family Affair, and Coming Out Still Matters. There are also a lot of events that go on throughout the world. You should be able to find out about the events that are taking place in your local area should you wish to join in with any of them.
How to celebrate National Coming Out Day
Throughout the world, there are celebrations being held of LGBTQ people everywhere coming out of the closet and loudly and proudly proclaiming who they are and standing side by side with their allies for a more equal and accepting tomorrow. You can get involved by joining them or by volunteering with local groups and organizations working to raise awareness and support the challenges faced by LGBTQ people in a world still struggling to accept them.
If you have been worried about coming out to your parents or loved ones for quite some time, National Coming Out Day could give you the push you need to do so. It gives you a good lead into the conversation. You can explain a bit about the day, and use this to help you tell people about your sexuality. You can also use National Coming Out Day to provide support to someone who needs it. If you know that someone is going to be using this day to have a difficult chat about their sexuality with someone, then make sure you offer them words of support and that you are there to support them.
A lot of people in the LGBTQ community who have already come out use this day to share their stories with people. If you feel comfortable, you can take to social media and share the story of how you came out about your sexuality. This can help people to feel like they are not alone and it can give people the support they need on a day like this. It can help to hear about the experiences other people have gone through when you are facing the same sort of situation yourself.
You can also use this date to raise awareness about the struggles that people in the LGBTQ community face. Whether it is bullying and discrimination or difficulties in the workplace or problems with their inner confidence, there are many things that LGBTQ members go through. A lot of people are not aware of these issues, and so you can use National Coming Out Day to try and change this. There are going to be a lot of infographics, videos, and other pieces of inspiring and insightful content available, so make the most of this and share it with your followers.

two men and a little lady? please say its mattdrai!
ohhhhh i actually need to rework this fic but there's a lot written that will stay
its mattdrai! its an accidental child acquisition fic with a wishbaby (wish toddler, ig) spin on it! and the reason it needs reworking is bc i realised i wanted to make mattdrai exes getting back together in it,,,,,
anyway here's a couple of snippets from the sections i have written for it:
1.
“Brady thought she was a ghost at first. Asked her how long she’d been three.” “How did she even respond to that?” Matthew grins at the memory, a glimmer of pride shows through it, “She bit him.”
2.
“Why are you even out? You clearly don’t want to be here.” Matthew sighs, something deep within him shifting as he turns fully towards Leon, “Brady talked me into it. Hockey players are oblivious, but me missing a karaoke night is apparently something that everyone would notice.” “Karaoke night?” Leon stops, his glass midway to his mouth, “This is a sports bar.” All he gets in response is a raised eyebrow. “We’re in Church-Wellesley,” Matthew says, as if that explains everything. “Every bar around here either has a drag act or turns into a mediocre karaoke spot come 10pm.” “Wait,” Leon pales, looking slightly horrified, “Are we currently part of one of those groups of straight people invading a queer space because it's hip!?”
3.
“C’mon, we’ve gotta get going.” His condo isn’t that big, where did she even go? “I don’t wanna!” Comes a response, finally, muffled from somewhere underneath the sofa.  He perches himself on the edge of the seat, feet planted firmly on the floor where he thinks they’ll be within her eye line, resists the urge to sigh from deep within his soul. It never used to take him this long to leave the house. One of the many things in his life that’s changed in the last few months. At least he's got a trick up his sleeve, “Wanna wear the shoes that light up?”
