A Former Convent

A 19th century convent complex in the city centre. Photo credit: Jonathan Chua.

This sprawling complex of a former convent has since been converted into a commercial development known as CHIJMES.

The facade was still a little back-lit as it wasn’t noon yet. I had with me a smaller sensor Fujifilm with its more limited dynamic range. Fujifilm’s DR EXR mode wasn’t available as this was taken at base ISO. So I had to choose between shadow details or preserving highlights. I chose the latter as I had no intention of brightening the facade much.

A former convent that has now become a commercial development in the heart of the civic and cultural district, photographed an hour after noon. With storm clouds brewing overhead, a mere 1/3 stop of positive exposure compensation was enough to light up the facade of the building.
