In that au, when some of the boys learn they are able to digivolve into "female" Digimon they might have mixed reactions at first but when they discover thier power they are very willing to use them.

*slams hands on table* Okay, no wait, I'm gonna finally actually think about this!

(my own relationship with gender has always been weird so at first I was like 'why would anyone have any kind of reaction to something like this' but other people are different)

Takuya - Takuya will absolutely hate it at first. He is very firm in his identity as a boy and suddenly having a more girly look will be very disturbing for him. Even after he's discovered the strenght of the digimon shape he'll feel uncomfortable with it, but sometimes you just gotta dress in drag and dance the hula to help your friends sneak past a pack of hyenas.

Kouji - Kouji is already used to being seen as a girl, and honestly? Whatever gets the job done. He's confident in his identity as a boy and it doesn't matter how he looks. He will transform into Ranamon and beat Takuya up for calling him a girl though.

Junpei - Junpei is Not A Fan, but only because he already feels insecure about his body since everyone Keeps Making Fun of him for it. He doesn't Actually mind it, but it's complicated, you know?

Tomoki - Gender is fuck, eat bread and play minecraft. Tomoki doesn't care. What even is male and female? Tomoki's gender is Gamer and the only issue he has with transforming into especially Fairymon is that her gloves makes it harder to handle the gaming control. They'll beat you up and have an absolute blast doing it.

Izumi - Izumi absolutely hates transforming into the "male" digimons, especially at first. She's a Girl Thank You Very Much, and girls has to be Beautiful. Once she learns that girls are allowed to look however they want she starts feeling more comfortable both transforming into the other digimon forms and just being herself.

Kouichi - Kouichi finds transforming into the "female" digimons way too liberating and it scares him. Kouichi's gender is confused and hurts itself in its confusion.

Digimon Frontier - Episode 10

Woohoo 10th episode 🥳 This one was okay, at least we got some interesting developments. The animation was noticeably limited but they seemed to over-stylize the shots to compensate for it. It felt...off but passable. If I was a kid I probably wouldn't notice.

Notes:

Koji gets a solo episode because he's a ~lone wolf~ I'd probably have a crush on him in elementary school, embarrassed to admit. As a 31 year old viewer he just seems like a lil shit lol

Really enjoying meeting new, friendly digimon each episode (although I guess there wasn't one last time). The digital world feels more fleshed out and lived in than it did in previous seasons and the digimon act more like people.

Bokomon calling Neemon "Bakamon" and snapping his waistband is really old. It was never really funny to begin with.

I realized that, although everyone is meant to have a beast form and a human form...isn't Chakmon already a beast form? Maybe it has to do with being bipedal? (Altough Grottomon's beast form is bipedal so idk)

It was interesting to see a digimon (Gotsumon) striving to become a legendary warrior. I feel like they could have just recruited him to help with the fighting lol

Izumi loses her spirit which apparently is a thing that can happen. It reminded me of when Juri lost Leomon because her digivice had TV static on the screen. Why do I feel like stealing spirits from people is gonna be a video game mechanic in one of the Frontier-based games?

I noticed that in the sub, they just call the beast spirit digivolution "spirit evolution" but they specify the "beast" thing in the dub. I like it when they're specific! It's a lot less confusing.

Weird naming sense for the new beast spirit evolution. In the Japanese he's Garmmon which is a Norse mythology allusion. But in the English he's KendoGarurumon? First off the design doesn't scream "kendo" to me and second, it feels weird to give him the "Garurumon" name. I mean, I knew this design was a rip-off, but it's weird they're making it explicit!

Naming and derivativeness aside, I do prefer Garmmon to Wolfmon. His little heelys cracked me up though. He feels like a redesign of MetalGarurumon, like an iPhone upgrade lol. Pretty much the same but sleeker.

We got a new insert song which was probably Koji's image song. I look forward to giving a proper listen later.

Just gonna mass dump Frontier thoughts rather than post episode by episode. I just wanna watch and enjoy then scribble thoughts down afterwards. This isn't like serious reviews or anything.

EP 2. Wolfmon of Light - Battle in the Underground Maze! -details re: the missing chunks of world which I was wondering about just 15 minutes ago are revealed -Tomoki wanting to be a hero is sweet but given how Digimon loves psychologically torturing children, I am deeply concerned for him lol -Blue Boy is Koji, like the delicious fungus! -what is it with Digimon and chocolate? also a train having a huge tongue like that is terrifying in a way I can't quite describe -more screentime for Izumi and Junpei! (So much so that I actually remembered their names roffle) The vibe I got from Izumi in the first ep was that she thinks of herself as being more mature than others and Junpei being concerned about what others think (in a kind of "socially cowardly" way) and that follows through here. I'm not sure I'm articulating what I mean properly lol. But it's pretty good characterisation so far to give the characters such little screentime in the first ep but still communicate a lot about their personalities. -After Takuya and Izumi fall down the hole, Neemon turns to Bokomon and asks "should we fall down too?" gave me a good chuckle, I'm looking forward to seeing what these two bring to the group -Raremon is gross and creepy, nice. I was starting to think Koji's evolution debut would be him beating up some babies who wanted chocolate lol -Koji just being accidentally pushed into a hole that happened to contain the Spirit felt weak but pretty funny, like damn dude, thank goodness it wasn't one of those holes that just. fell. forever. into the air outside lol -Also I dunno if there was just little/no music in episode 1 (don't recall to be honest) but the bgm in this episode was really nice -overall a decent episode, the Pagumon chases were a nice more lighthearted threat after LITERAL HELL DOG TRIES BURNING TINY CHILDREN ALIVE

EP 3. I Won't Allow Bullying! Evolve into Chakmon of Ice -So they have the chance to return home, Junpei wants to, the others send Tomoki away. I always love in stories when kids are like "we're OLDER so LISTEN to us!" and the elders are like 10 years old -it's nice the kids don't all just get along, even if they're sticking together, there's obviously friction with their personalities and what they want to do -Bokomon and Neemon are nice support/comic relief, they're funny but not overbearing which is always my worry with characters like this -more backstory!! so Lucemon was an evil tyrant, but now it's Cherubimon who's screwing up the world… we got ourselves a fallen angel theme going so far -THAT CANDMON HAS A MOUSTACHE -Bruh the scene where Tomoki uses his hat to try dousing the Candmon to protect Takuya is so sweet, this kid's legit, best character for sure lol -Chakmon's evolution animaton is so cute omg, Chakmon always looked so serious in its artwork but it's super cute -not gonna lie Wizardmon just appearing suddenly confused the hell outta me haha -overall though i really liked this ep, the episodes so far are all really nicely paced

EP 4. My Kicks Hurt! The Female Warrior Fairymon -The Forest Terminal being in the forest literally makes so much sense my guy. I mean you are in Crazy Whacko Nonsense world but still. "I live in Ocean View." "Oh, where's that?" "In the middle of the desert." -Floramon's head is apparently completely empty. Oh my. Which makes me wonder how the Mushmon… made their mushroom soup… -Izumi straight up SLAPPING Mushmon is so good. I always love when Digimon kids are totally out of their league fighting these monsters but they don't care and still try to mess 'em up. -Woodmon secretly three Mushmon in a trench coat confirmed. -lol that booty attack Fairymon does. "no no it isn't the ten-year-old Izumi, it's FAIRYMON, it's totally different we swear ehehehehe" I'm kinda curious about what the dub looks now though -Sucks that Izumi's evolution debut has her getting knocked out cold like that. Just seemed like an excuse to have Koji show up and barely interact again. -I'm 99% sure Bokomon is secretly The Ultimate Evil this series. -Junpei being so convinced he's getting a Spirit is nice. Shows he's been paying attention. A shame the same cannot be said of Koji who still refuses to tag along with the main gang. My fella, you are right there in the intro with them. You cannot escape.

Takuya: Anyway, let's try anything that might work! (The kids step outside to spirit-evolve into Legendary Warrior Digimon. They get ready to use their attacks.) Agnimon: Let's do this! One, two, three... Lowemon: Endlich Meteor! Bolgmon: Ultimate Thunder! Fairymon: Tornado Gamba! Chakmon: Snow Bomber! Garmmon: Solar Laser! Agnimon: Burning Salamander! (Their attacks shoot through into the orbit. The Legendary Warriors stand there and wait but nothing happens.) Garmmon: Nothing's happening... Bolgmon: What exactly are you trying to do? Agnimon: Well, I thought we could use our attacks at once to move the mooon. (Scene shifts to the Imagination Spot showing the whole blue moon slowing moving to the Digital World.) Bolgmon: Huh? Agnimon: It didn't really work. Oh well, that failed! (Agnimon starts laughing nervously and the Legendary Warriors look at him with disappointment.) Fairymon: Let's go back. Chakmon: Yeah... Bolgmon: I guess... (The other Legendary Warriors are walking away from the laughing Agnimon as they realize that they made a fool of themselves.)

i will say it’s kind of lame that both chakmon and fairimon’s intros did involve other digimon ultimately solving the problem. fairimon in particular was lame! she didn’t even get to beat up woodmon! like at least let her do that and then have wolfmon show up to be like “BEHOLD HOW COOL AM I”.
