Also thinking about the bit in c2e141 where Beau and Yasha are talking about Molly/King and wondering if he's going to end up being a whole different person... wanting to make sure they don't influence him too much, that they don't force him to become the person they remember...
That conversation was just so good. Especially when we know that Kingsley later goes to them to ask about his past during the reunion... Lots of thoughts about Kingsley and Beau and Yasha's relationship.
A tale of seven friends, who became eight, then nine. Wild swells of adventure, and love, and guilt, and redemption. Family. Truth. This story comes to a close tonight, but the tale of the Mighty Nein lives on, and who knows, maybe we'll have the chance to see some of them again in some shape or form.
Continuing my 141 rewatch I must draw your attention once more to this beloved exchange between Caleb and Essek, bolding/purpling added by me:
LIAM: Before he can go, I catch him by the arm.
MATT: Mm-hmm.
LIAM: And draw him in and give him a kiss on the cheek and then pull him into the most empathetic hug I can make him feel. "Don't be a stranger. Somewhat hypocritical coming from me, but try to be kind to yourself."
MATT: "You, more than anyone, showed me that trauma doesn't define you."
LIAM: "Stay safe."
MATT: "You too, Caleb Widogast." And he lets go and drifts out to the front of the grove, and is gone.
I remembered the hug but thought it was hug -> then talk but NO! THEY HAD THIS WHOLE CONVERSATION WHILE ACTIVELY HOLDING ONTO EACH OTHER I'm fine it's fine
thinking a lot about the look eadwulf gives caleb over his shoulder as he and astrid are leaving the blooming grove.
caleb took his hand and he accepted it. he didn’t move away until astrid pulled him away. i don’t think he wanted to leave. in fact, i think he desperately wanted to stay. he felt caleb’s hand in his for the first time in so many years and he never wanted to let go again.
and yet, he couldn’t break away from astrid. he couldn’t let her walk and not follow. that was the day everything they had been living for fell apart and caleb returning to their lives was still so new, and if caleb didn’t last and he let astrid go, what would he have left?
i hope he goes back, on his own. i hope he keeps visiting the blooming grove, just to help out with things. i hope he visits caleb’s little home and they have dinner together. i hope he gets to know the rest of the nein and stops by their monthly tower meetups.
i hope he runs toward those things, eventually, even if astrid isn’t ready to yet. i hope he stays instead of just looking back.
someone has probably already pointed this out bc i was so slow to find time stamps but i thought it was so sweet that a campaign apart the spell has stuck as Caleb’s Produce Flame
jesus christ liam o'brien with the devastatingly heart rending closure of his arc and his final goodbyes to his parents. I was not prepared I'm a mess.
and then matt crying as he closed out this wonderful campaign and told everyone he loves them. ouuughhh
I'm gonna miss the nein so much. thanks guys that was absolutely magical.
Marion Lavorre: Me and your father, we have much to discuss. As much as we might still care for each other, he believes his position as a crime boss in one city of the Empire means he could bring the attention of dangerous people to our family.
Jester Lavorre, who less than 24 hours ago summoned a goddamn earthquake in the middle of an eldritch city floating in an entirely different plane of existence: ........... Right...
