Accidents happen.
Summary: Sofia accidentally breaks something in Cedric's workshop.
C*dfia shippers DNI.
Wordcount: 956
Sofia thought, staring at the broken glass on the floor and the green liquid spilt everywhere.
-
Oh no, oh no, oh no!
“Remind me, princess, I did bring some mugwort back from our last visit to the village?”
Sofia nodded, her eyes still on the green liquid. What if it took him ages to make and she just spilt it all over the floor? “Umm, yeah, I think so!” she put on the best voice she could. The last time she’d ruined something important in Roland’s office he was very upset, she didn’t want to upset Mr Cedric. He worked so hard on his potions. She stepped away as the green potion spilt closer towards her feet, she always knew his workshop was slanted!
“Are you alright, princess?”
Sofia braced herself as Cedric spun around on his stool. “I’m really sorry, Mr-”
“Sofia! Get away from that!”
Cedric rushed over to her, whisking her away from the magical goo. Paying no mind to the broken beaker, he grabbed her hands, checking over her. “It didn’t get on you, did it?”
“O-Only a little bit, I’ll clean it up!”
Sofia heard Cedric mumble some adult words before he knelt down to the broken glass, carefully picking up a shard with a label on it. He took a breath of relief, holding his hand to his chest. “Athena’s arena…”
“I’m so sorry, Mr Cedric, it wasn’t important was it?”
Cedric turned his attention back to his apprentice, petting her head with a level of care and sweetness Sofia had only ever seen him use with Calista. “No, no, It’s alright, love…Just go clean yourself up, it’s been known to stain. Bailywick will kill me if he finds out I let you stain another dress,” he stroked her hair gently, minding her tiara. Gods, had she scared him. This was why he tried to put his more dangerous potions and ingredients higher up. There were many things in his workshop she wasn’t allowed to handle, if he was working on a more dangerous spell or potion he'd practically push her out the door.
Sofia shook her head, running off to grab a broom from the other side of his workshop. “I’ll clean it, I don’t mind!”
Cedric rolled his eyes ever so slightly, snatching the broom from her small hands. Why was this child so sweet and who taught her to be such a people-pleaser? In what world does a child clean up glass? It’s an age-old situation, a little kid accidentally knocks over a glass, parent rushes over and yells at them to not go near it. “It’s glass, princess. I’ll sweep it up.”
“But that isn’t fair? I’m the one who broke it after all?”
“And I’m the one telling you to go change and let me clean up the very sharp sand on the floor because I’m the adult.”
Cedric watched Sofia’s face contort in confusion. “Glass is made of sand?” She was so cute. “How?”
Cedric smiled to himself, starting to sweep the glass into a little pile. He couldn’t have Sofia stepping on it. “It’s melted down into a liquid, then it becomes glass. Simple, really,” he explained, taking on a very soft, fatherly tone. He found himself speaking to Sofia like this a lot. It was quite odd, he didn't talk to anyone else like this, at least he’d never noticed it. “Now that that’s out of the way, won’t you go clean up? I’ll finish this.”
Sofia looked down at her purple dress, speckled with green potion. She really didn’t mind her dresses getting stained, it was only a dress, after all. If anything it was a reminder of a fun experience she got to endure. Even if Bailywick or Amber didn’t share her feelings.
“Do you have to remake the potion?”
Cedric shook his head. “It was defective, I’ve been meaning to throw it out. You beat me to it, princess,” he said, starting to rake up the goo. Sofia smiled a bit, she felt better knowing it would have been thrown out anyway. “I’m sorry I made a mess, Mr Cedric.”
“It’s alright, love. Accidents happen, I’ve broken an unruly amount of beakers in my time,” Cedric pulled his wand from his sleeve, pointing it at the small pile of liquid and glass and mumbled a quick spell, the floor becoming spotless once again. “See? No harm done.” Cedric put his wand back and patted Sofia on the head, making her giggle a bit. How was one princess so cute?
“You can’t go your whole life without a few mistakes, dear. Mistakes and accidents are inevitable, no matter how small,” the fatherly tone came back yet again, much stronger this time.
It was comforting to Sofia, it felt nostalgic in a way. Roland didn’t really speak to her in that tone, she vaguely remembers her biological father speaking to her in that way. A lot about Cedric reminded her of Birk, it was nice, considering she didn’t remember him all that much.
Sofia lept to hug Cedric’s waist, almost making him stumble backwards. That was a habit of hers, she was very enthusiastic with her hugs, sometimes a bit too enthusiastic. She just loved showing affection to the people she loved and cared about. Cedric very quickly caught on to the fact that she was a very sweet girl who wanted everyone to feel cared for, even if everyone else thought they weren’t worth the time of day.
“Thank you, Mr Cedric.”
Cedric smiled down at her, one hand on her shoulder, the other stroking her hair. He was growing to enjoy her hugs. A few years ago he would have pushed her off, but not anymore.
“It was only a glass, princess.”

Cedric with Sofia head canons. During and after the show.
Cedric and Sofia being best pals
Tumblr media
I love writing for these guys. They are the cutest of best friends!
(During the show, when she’s 8-12)
Sofia always comes to Mr. Cedric when she has a bad dream, though he wonders in a grumpy haze why she doesn’t just go to the King and Queen (her bloody parents), he’s always willing to help out his favorite student by giving her a potion that’ll help her for the night
Always giving him hugs!! He gets more comfortable with them over time.
Sofia’s always bringing him little notes or gifts to make him smile/uplift his day. Cedric saves them in a magically locked music box :) The notes say things like “You’re my BEST friend!” and “I believe in you!” they’re almost disgustingly cheesy but Cedric loves them because they’re from her.
Also, Sofia NEVER skips out on celebrating Mr. Cedric’s birthday. No matter how much he denies that he wants the attention and says “No no no it’s fine I don’t want anything it’s not even my birthday.birthday?what’s a birthday?never heard of it.”
Sof’s like TOO BAD we’re going out to a magic gallery together and I hand-made you like 3 gifts enjoy
He always feels touched though, he couldn't ask for a better friend.
Cedric hates having to say no to Sofia, her eyes are huge and when she goes puppy-dog he’s a dead man
If he’s about to break he turns around dramatically covering his eyes, shooing her out. “Go ask your mother!” knowing she’ll say no bc Miranda is the only one that uses the castle’s communal brain cell.
Don’t worry though, Cedric will be more immune to it when she’s older. And speaking of..
(After the show, when shes 12-15)
As Sofia gets older, she starts to pay less attention during lessons- as her mind expands and as she experiences more it leaves more room for her to think about things and can get sidetracked at inconvenient times.
“And- Sofia? Sofia??? Are you listening?”
“HUH?! Wh-? oh... Sorry Mr. Cedric. I um, I got lost in thought..”
It’s hard for Cedric to be frustrated with her because he remembers what it’s like being a teenager and how confusing it could be. He thought that adults his age who told children that their teen years were the best years of their lives were absolutely mad. He hated every second of being 14 and 15.
Instead of grumbling for her to pay attention, he stops the lesson and sits down to face her at eye level. “Alright, tell me what’s wrong.”
Sofia sometimes wishes that Cedric would continue teaching at her school, the day he substituted was one of the best school days she’s ever had! Well, minus the prankster kids..
She wouldn’t suggest it to him ever though, the castle wouldn’t be the same without Cedric the Sensational as their royal sorcerer!
As Sofia gets older though, she gradually starts to see Cedric as less of an adult figure- not that she’s not aware he’s much older than she is, she’s just more comfortable talking to him about other things now that she’s growing up
Hell, even Cedric gets more comfortable telling her things. Thank Merlin for that too, she is his best friend after all
However that has also led to Sofia finding a way to let Cedric know when she was really pissed at him. Instead of her usual- fluffy and sweet “Mr. Cedric~!!” she’d flat out call him “Cedric.” when she was being serious.
Cedric addresses her as “Your Majesty” in a sarcastic tone if he’s fed up with her as well, if she’s gonna act all high and mighty, might as well treat her that way he supposes
You know they always make up in the end though, in fact they hardly ever fight- almost never! They’ve probably only called each other those things once each.
Sofia also asks him for advice about things, like school work, relationships.. she was really nervous having her first girlfriend, but wasn’t sure if she was comfortable telling her parents about it (fearing they’d get mushy and gushy or over protective), so she approached Cedric about it in..... maybe not the best way..
Tapping her fingers together, they were studying for her mid-term at Ever Realm Academy, and Sofia blurted out with flushed cheeks. “Mr. Cedric, do you remember your first kiss?”
Cedric stops what he’s writing down and looks up at her, not really sure how to respond. “I don’t know where you’re going with this Sofia, but before you go any further I’d like to remind you that I’m old enough to be your father.” (he is tho)
Sofia shoves him playfully as he snickers under his breath.”Not what I meant.” she giggles
Cedric knows, claiming he was just pushing her buttons and offers for her to continue
Sof tells him about everything, he asks if her mother knows- confused as to why she’s not asking her
Sofia frowns and shakes her head. “No.. mom’s just gonna make a huge embarrassing deal out of it.”
Even though Miranda wouldn't, Sofia didn’t wanna take that risk in typical teenage-caution
Cedric’s a bit taken aback, he’s so used to the little 9 year old Sofia that loves her mother more than anything and would drag her to school if she could, but he offers all the wisdom he can for a man that’s never done more than kiss a girl briefly and turn away blushing like an idiot
To make it short and sweet, as Sofia grows up, Cedric is always there to support her along with her parents. After all, what kind of mentor would he be to his apprentice if he wasn’t?

Cedric goes to every event of Sofia's that Roland can't make it to. Derby races, enchanted ice dancing recitals, school plays, etc etc. Sofia would never say it, but she prefers having Cedric there more than Roland, his support feels more genuine to her, and she loves knowing she made her mentor and father figure proud.
As she grew older, Sofia felt less and less important to Roland, he found much less time for her and they'd go weeks without having a full one-on-one conversation. She finds comfort in the fact that she'll always be able to find fatherly support and love in Cedric. He'd drop everything to go to her recitals or give her a pep talk when she needed it. Just like he said when she first came to the castle, his door was always open.

You're Still Young.
C*DFIA SHIPPERS DNI OR READ.
CW: nail biting.
-
Princess Sofia hastily opened the door to her mentor's workshop, unknowingly making a ruckus as she forced the door open and slammed it behind her.
“Sofia! Will you ever learn to knock!? This is highly dangerous, you know!?” Cedric scolded, having barely kept his newest potion in his hands after jumping a mile.
Cedric put the potion down on his desk, and turned around to the now sixteen-year-old, just in time to see her crumble to the floor, breathing heavily.
“Sofia……?”
Cedric made his way over to Sofia, his own breath picking up, and knelt down to her.
He looked over her face, her arms, her legs, anywhere that she could be hurt. Cedric wasn’t exactly good at telling people’s emotions, but even he could tell Sofia was distressed, he just needed to find out why.
“Sofia? What’s wrong?....Sofia, you’re worrying me.”
Sofia took another deep breath to try and regain her composure. It helped her a bit, but she wasn’t any more composed.
“Mr Cedric…” she whispered out, head in her hands.
Cedric’s mind raced as he thought of what to say. You’d think when he’s known her for over 8 years he’d know how to comfort her, but clearly not.
'Where is Baileywick when I need him?' Cedric thought briefly. The man seemed to appear when Amber lost her favourite tiara but not when he had a hyperventilating princess in his workshop.
“Sofia, are you alright?” he tried. Sofia took her head from her hands and looked at him, eyes pleading-but he didn’t know what for. “You’re going to have to talk to me,” he said, hoping it didn’t come off too harsh.
“Help me….” Sofia uttered.
Cedric sighed, but took her hand and helped her up from the floor.
With one arm around her waist to keep her from falling to the floor on her shaky legs, he guided Sofia to one of the stools by his desk. He quickly grabbed a potion from his large drawer full of ingredients, spare potions, and whatever else he’s thrown in there. “Here,” he said, unscrewing the cork and passing the purple-y potion to her. It was a calming potion. Hopefully, it would ease her enough to tell him why she was so distressed.
Sofia downed it, ignoring the disgusting taste of the liquid- really what does he put in those things? Frog spawn? It’s probably frog spawn.
Cedric took the vial from her and placed it down. The weird mixture seemed to work, as Sofia’s breathing evened out and her hands stopped shaking.
“What’s wrong, my dear?” Cedric asked, calmer himself. “It’s too much….” Sofia sighed, taking off her tiara and placing it on one of Cedric’s open books. Cedric nodded, beckoning her to continue. “I’m behind on homework and I keep failing! There’s a test I haven’t studied for! Dad wants me to go open something at the village but I don’t have time! Amber refused to do it and James is busy with school! There's a ton of other stuff dad wants me to do and I don't even know what half of them are!! I have so much to do and-”
Her head fell in her hands once again, her elbows resting on the desk. She felt Cedric’s hand on her shoulder. “It’ll be alright, Sofia.”
“No, it won’t!!”
Cedric jumped at Sofia’s tone. She was always so soft-spoken. He's only been yelled at by her a handful of times, and all those times he had seriously messed up. She must be incredibly stressed.
“I-I’m sorry, Mr Cedric…” Sofia whispered, now looking at him with the most apologetic eyes Cedric’s ever seen. It was quite adorable, but, albeit upsetting. “It’s alright, princess. I was a bit snappy with you earlier as well.” Cedric moved some of her hair away from her forehead. “I just don’t know what to do. I’ve tried telling Dad, but he won’t listen!”
Cedric grumbled at that. The hypocrisy! When they were young, Roland went on and on about how much his father pressured him about being king and was giving him too many responsibilities, now he’s doing the exact same thing! And Sofia isn't even in line to be queen! It was cruel.
“Would you like for me to talk to him, my dear?” Cedric asked, his voice overly sweet to hide his distaste. He usually didn’t go out of his way to talk to Roland, but that king needed some serious humbling!
“No, I don’t want you to get in trouble,” Sofia told him, now slowly tracing the gems on her tiara. 'God, she was so sweet,' Cedric thought. Could she think about herself for even a moment? She was always thinking about what was best for those around her, why can't she think about what was best for herself for once?
From the corner of his eye, Cedric caught a glimpse of Sofia’s fingers.
“Sofia, what happened to your nails? Have you been biting them, by chance?”
Sofia glanced at him, then pulled her hands from her tiara to hide her nails against her dress. 'I can’t let Mr Cedric see them, he’d be so worried!' She thought. She knew her mentor got easily worried about her, she couldn’t possibly worry him even more.
“Um, no.”
Cedric raised an eyebrow at her. “Come on, let Mr Cedric have a look.” He held his hand out to her, and she reluctantly placed her hands against his. “Oh, my dear.”
Sofia’s fingers were completely torn apart. Her nails were jaggedy and just past her nail beds. Cedric could tell they had been bleeding quite recently, as well as being incredibly sore. It was at that moment that he decided he was talking with Roland. He didn’t care if he got kicked out of the castle for speaking up. He wasn’t going to stand by and let his apprentice rip her fingers to shreds because she had too many responsibilities for a girl her age.
Cedric pulled his wand from his robe. “What are you doing, Mr Cedric?” “One moment, dear.”
Cedric muttered a quick spell under his breath, gave a small wave of his wand, and Sofia’s fingers were healed, as well as painted with a fresh coat of purple nail polish. “There we go, good as new.”
Sofia smiled at him. “Thank you,” she said, taking a look at her nails. “Try not to bite them anymore, alright? It’s a nasty habit.” She nodded.
“Now, I’m going to talk to your father later, because this is by no means okay.”
Sofia’s eyes widened. “But-But I don’t want you to get in trouble!”
“Sofia,” Cedric took her hands in his, “under no circumstances is this alright. You are a child, he should not be making you juggle all of these damn things at once. This is not what a father should be doing to their own child. I…I won’t allow it.”
Cedric took a deep breath. “If you were my daughter, I can tell you, I’d want to be told I was doing this to you. If Roland can’t handle the truth, then that’s on him, isn’t it?”
Sofia pursed her lips.
If you were my daughter.
My daughter.
Deep down, Sofia knew that Cedric was like a father to her. Maybe even a little bit more than Roland was. She loves him of course….but he almost never has time for her. Whenever she went to him it was always "I'm sorry, darling, but, can it wait?" Then when she asks again, it just repeats. It wasn’t as bad when she was younger, but the older she got, the farther they grew apart. It felt as if he didn’t even want to make time for her!
Meanwhile, Cedric always welcomes her into his workshop with open arms. Even when he's busy, he lets her help out and they'll chat back and forth, then of course their weekly sorcery lessons. She'd never admit it out loud, but she's almost called him "Dad" quite a few times. Luckily, she caught herself and replaced it with "Mr Cedric" before it was too late.
After a while, she learnt that Roland would simply shoo her off, and Mr Cedric would engage with her, answer her question, help her with her homework, go with her to visit a shop in the village, listen to what she had to say, read her report cards and praise her when she learnt a new skill. He treated her like any good father would treat their daughter. But she had no idea if he felt the same way. Did he think of her as his daughter? Or just his apprentice and friend? Or maybe a younger sister? Or even a niece, like Calista?
“Princess?”
Sofia jumped a little bit. She must have spaced out. She’s been doing that quite a lot lately. “I won’t get in trouble. I just want to tell him that he needs to go easier on you. That’s all.” That was a lie. Cedric was infuriated. How could a father put so much stress on their child, especially one as sweet as Sofia, even after they said they were struggling? If Sofia looked even a tad tired during their sorcery lessons, he’d quickly finish up and tell her to go take a nap if she wished. If he could, he'd be off to Roland right now, but Sofia needed his support. She was more important.
“Alright, but promise you won’t be rude?” Sofia asked, holding up her pinky finger.
Cedric sighed. Making false promises to her made him feel incredibly guilty, but he had no choice. “I promise, my dear.” Cedric hooked her pinky with his, earning a sweet, but tired smile from her. ‘Poor girl is probably exhausted’ he thought.
Despite her sleepiness, Sofia leapt to hug Cedric tightly. He wrapped his arms around her.
Sofia stayed there for a few moments, snuggling against Cedric. He was cosy. ‘I’m so tired…’ she thought, before her mind switched off on her.
“Sofia?” Cedric gently poked Sofia, before realising she fell asleep. “And I’m stuck,” he mumbled, but not in a grumpy way. He reached to gently stroke her hair. She looked precious.
Over the years, Cedric warmed up to Sofia’s affection, he even enjoys and initiates hugs. Though occasionally, they saddened him. He remembers when she had to reach on the tips of her toes to wrap her arms around his waist and grabbed onto his robes to get his attention. She didn't have to do that anymore. She was only a few inches shorter than him now, though she still grabs onto his robes.
For whatever reason, it never occurred to him that his apprentice would grow up, that she wouldn't always be the sweet little girl who had to stand on a stepping stool to reach the third shelf.
On a lighter note of Sofia growing up, he liked being able to watch her progression in sorcery as she grew and learnt the ways of magic. He felt like he was watching his own child graduate when she finally mastered that one spell she struggled with for years; he actually teared up a bit!
“I suppose I should get you into bed, hm?” Cedric asked Sofia, who was too far off in her dreams to hear him.
Cedric carefully scooped Sofia into his arms and stood up from the stool, freezing when she stirred.
He slowly made his way up the stairs of his workshop, where his bed was. "There we go," he whispered after placing her down and tucking her in. He's done this too many times to count. He was the only person she went to after nightmares, and after all she's been through in her young life, she had quite a lot of them.
After making sure the princess was properly tucked in and giving her hair a soft kiss, Cedric made his way back down the stairs, took her tiara off of the book she placed it on earlier, and put it on one of his shelves where it was safe.
'Now,' he thought.
It was time to deal with Roland.

This was originally posted on fanfiction.net by the name of "moonypear." It's only been up a few days and I've had 3 or 4 C*dfia shippers favorite, review and follow me, I'm already frustrated. It already feels like I'm making content for them. I haven't been in the fandom long, but on here it seems like shippers have some decency to keep distance with people who don't want them interacting (from what I've seen at least.) I might not post on fanfiction.net again. I've always viewed them in a father/daughter light as shown here, and the thought of someone reading my hard work and twisting it to make it "Romantic" honestly makes me feel a bit sick.

Sofia was first allowed to carry her wand without Cedric's supervision when she was 16. He was very hesitant at first. He had many accidents with magic when he was young, how he still has all 10 of his fingers he has no idea, but he supposed he has to be rational, and Sofia was much more advanced than he was at her age. He still made her promise that if she had any questions or was unsure of anything, she'd ask him before casting a spell. He knows Sofia wouldn't break a promise if she had the choice to.

DUUUDE I LLOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT YOUR BLOG !!! FINALLY SOMEONE ELSE WHO LOVES FATHER CEDRIC AND DAUGHTER SOFIA AS MUCH AS I DO, AND ISNT' A NASTY C.EDFI.A SHIPPER!!!!!!!! YAHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! honestly your hcs are inspiring me to revive a fic idea I had for these two and their dynamic developing!!! roland is not a great father to sofia at all, btw. it sucks how much he prioritizes amber and james but often leaves sofia out, and we only ever see him interact with her maybe TWICE like a real father should. and what was with him not even bothering to teach her all the things she needed to know for that first daddy daughter ep?! it was so fucked up that she was just left to flounder like that!!!! my personal hc is that she tried to call him dad at first to get used to it / feel like she actually WAS bonding with him, but it simply didn't turn out, and it felt forced. a more slightly distant term i could see her using would be "father", picking up on it from cedric when he talks about his dad, and how he talks to him. then, one day, sofia accidentally slips and calls cedric dad without realizing it, when she's studying in his castle tower with him for sorcery purposes. and that's the day using the word "dad" finally felt natural for him. and also if cedric felt E M O T I O N A L about it, then that's nobody's business but his own. ( he was so touched and happy he was over the MOON!! )
Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
I completely agree with Roland and Cedric. I think at some point after the show Sofia asked Cedric to be her dad on Father's Day by giving him a handmade card that says "Will you be my dad?" with a little drawing of them. He completely sobbed, because he'd already recognized his feelings for her as being paternal, but didn't want to say anything in case he ruined what he had with her or made it awkward. Then after that Sofia called him dad whenever they were alone, and Cedric treated her even more as a daughter and essentially took on the role as her main parental figure. He started to finally express his parental instincts, asking Sofia if she'd eaten breakfast and asking more about her well-being. I think it would stay their little secret for awhile, but eventually it might be exposed.
I also could see Sofia starting to call Roland something other than Dad, especially if she starts calling Cedric Dad too, it would hold a special place in her heart that Roland just isn't worthy of. I feel like the moments that Sofia does have with Roland he doesn't feel very fatherly at all, more like her mom's boyfriend or something. It just doesn't feel like a dad talking to his child.
Seriously, thank you so much! Words can't describe how much I love getting asks like this and knowing there's other people who share my feelings/opinions so strongly!
