Recently, I was at the British Museum, London, visiting the exhibition ‘The World of Stonehenge’ which followed the story of Britain and Europe from 4000 to 1000 BC. Part of this fascinating story was this 6000 year old Ulmus (elm) leaf from Lancashire, England. The leaf was found in deposits of peat and marine clays which helped preserve ancient plant remains and yielded information on the local vegetation, water, climate, and human activity.
