one thing i love so much about andor is how each week they manage to weave in these subtle underlying themes within the episodes that are just so impactful to all the characters (and the audience) in different ways.
like shows do this often, have their characters in different situations but explore the same overall theme- but with andor each storyline is so rich and have these stakes that are so impossibly high that the emotional gut-punch of each one just drives home how well written and executed this show is and the heavy theme of sacrifice in this last episode just hit me hard.
like in the prison break scenes it is so thick with it, we see the prisoners coming together, ready to die fighting than stay there- and many of them do. but they are prepared to do it. one way out. its the grim yet hopeful moment of rebellion. and we get to see some of the best scenes in all of star wars as we watch these men revolt, as we listen to kinos powerful speech, how cassian pushes him and we get these lines: "you need to help each other. you see someone who is confused, someone who is lost? you get them moving and you keep them moving." which just hit me in the gut because the entire speech is just an emotional hit after emotional hit, but this line. this line is indicative of everything we've seen of the show so far. these calls for action, call for rebellion. to stand beside one another and fight. climb. and then we reach this heartbreaking end where we see them at the end, the light at the end of the tunnel- and kino cant swim. one way out- just not for him. and were stuck with that feeling of sacrifice again- that he must have known, but pushed and helped them escape anyways. the one man for the many. and when we see cassian and melshi running off, free, we know they'll remember that too.
and then with mon, her presence in this episode was much smaller than it has been, but the theme of sacrifice was still there for her- just vastly different. because the sacrifice that we see in her scene is not the heroic kind. it's mon being asked if she would be willing to sacrifice her daughter, marry her off, to further her cause. and again, its so poignant and filled you with this sick feeling because it's not mons sacrifice, it's her daughters, but its in mons hands anyways. and no matter how vehemently we see her reject the idea, just like davo says, we can see her genuinely considering it- knowing she's out of options- but at what cost?
and lastly with luthen and lonni, their entire conversation, right at the end, is openly about sacrifice. and we get this amazing dialogue between them where luthen reminds us that the rebellion is built on sacrifice, how it's personal and at the cost of others. it slams everything that we've just seen back in our faces. forcing us to go back and look at it with new eyes. it's the perfect mixture of the other two storylines in the episode. the prison and kino, and mon and her daughter. its fifty for the sake of one, and one spy at the sake of his family. the sacrifice is everything.
andor spends this whole episode showing us there is always a cost, always a sacrifice- something that again is such a true theme for star wars in general. the sacrifices in this show mean everything. the true cost of the rebellion. what has to be done isn't always kind, isn't always pretty. there is no thanks. there is no seeing the sunrise. there is not a one way out.

No one loves Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman more than America’s elite. In recent years, we’ve seen leaders, investors, and celebrities hold out a Saudi exception to human rights in the service of a blurry concept of national interests that requires the U.S. to constantly compromise its values in service of an autocrat. And so MBS has been welcomed back into the establishment fold, and he won over Washington. And now he’s taking a victory lap.
When Saudi Arabia convened a 2018 summit in Riyadh, businesspeople shielded their name tags from view, sheepish about seeking MBS’s money just days after journalist Jamal Khashoggi’s murder. But the stigma has apparently worn off, and big names in finance, tech, media, and entertainment showed up at the Miami edition of Davos in the Desert.
The entire conceit of the conference is that Saudi Arabia can be abstracted from MBS, who is hardly ever mentioned yet remains the unspoken force behind the events. The host, the Future Investment Initiative Institute, a mouthful, is essentially the crown prince’s personal think tank. Session after session offered platitudes and ruminations on the least controversial ideas ever—AI is going to change the world! Climate is important! Sports bring people together! The two-day gathering was titled “On the Edge of a New Frontier,” itself a sort of redundant name. (Isn’t a frontier an edge?)
Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of a major sovereign wealth fund that’s currently under Senate investigation, led the proceedings. The Public Investment Fund that Al-Rumayyan runs is the conference’s founding partner and powers its lavish events. That Al-Rumayyan has $70 billion in annual investments to dole out is enough to draw out financial titans, curious entrepreneurs, and former Trump officials.
Jared Kushner, who had grown a beard, was talking about his theory of investing, without noting that MBS’s sovereign wealth funds had reportedly contributed $2 billion to his Affinity Partners. Steve Mnuchin, who similarly snared $1 billion of Saudi funds for his Liberty Strategic Capital, wore a suit and dress sneakers and talked about Israel as a tech hub. Mike Pompeo, in a tie, said that U.S. leadership in the world requires a “stability model” that involves working with “like-minded nations,” though “they’re not all going to be democracies.” Little wonder he rushed U.S. arms to Saudi Arabia as secretary of state as part of an end run around Congress.
Doing business with Saudi Arabia has become so normalized that the CEOs of major corporations and investment firms showed up in droves. There was Accenture’s Julie Sweet, Blackstone’s Stephen Schwarzman, and Thiel Capital’s Jack Selby. David Rubenstein—the billionaire who has played host to President Joe Biden at his Nantucket estate—spoke alongside his daughter Gabrielle. (This year, the Biden administration didn’t send an emissary, but the deputy commerce secretary, Donald Graves, attended in 2021.)
Journalists have kept a distance from Saudi Arabia after the dismemberment of Washington Post columnist Khashoggi, but in Miami the moderators included CNN’s Bianna Golodryga, Fox’s Maria Bartiromo, Bloomberg’s Manus Cranny, and The Wall Street Journal’s Gerard Baker.
MBS has especially used boldfaced names to rehabilitate his standing post-Khashoggi, his crackdown on women activists, and the destructive Yemen war. In Miami, there was a fireside chat with failed Senate candidate Dr. Oz. “Saudi Arabia is, I think, doing some wise investing and shifting mindsets by trying to leapfrog, in some cases, where the West is,” Oz said.
For Gwyneth Paltrow, it was just another fun public event. She spoke about how Goop had “built meaning” for its fans, in conversation with entrepreneur Moj Mahdara, a former adviser to Hillary Clinton. It was particularly incongruous when Paltrow discussed bringing more women to the cap table to fight the patriarchy.
Rob Lowe had some advice for Riyadh’s efforts to break into Hollywood and create its own film industry. “My view is there’s no reason that Saudi shouldn’t be the leader in IP in the same way they’re attempting to be the leader in sports and everything else,” Lowe said. “You need to have someone who can communicate: Why Saudi, why now.”
For all of the glitzy stage management and slick social media branding, at many moments there were fewer than 50 people watching the livestream on YouTube. But what mattered more were the opinion leaders, financiers, and tycoons in the room.
Big Tech was there, too, with Google’s Caroline Yap and Dell’s Michael Dell. Nothing was quite as obsequious as last year’s gathering in Miami when Adam Neumann, Marc Andreessen, and Ben Horowitz—all beneficiaries of Saudi Arabia’s financial largesse—gushed about how MBS is like a “founder,” except “you call him, ‘His Royal Highness.’”

I think the thing I found most interesting about this episode was to compare it to episode 7 "An Announcement" and the way it handled the aftermath of Aldhani versus how we see the aftermath of Narkina 5 and the prison break.
After Aldhani, literally everyone knew. Everyone heard about it from Ferrix to Coruscant. Everyone was impacted: the prisoners were punished, Maarva was inspired, Luthen was satisfied, Mon Mothma was horrified. And the events at Aldhani have continued to impact the story ever since. We hear about how they caused Mon Mothma's accounts to be frozen, leading to her situation with Davo and Leida. We see what happened to the prisoners on Narkina 5 when they decided to fight back against it.
But with the prison break? No one's talking about it at all. No one seems to even know that it happened. Aside from two natives to the planet the prison was on in the first place, absolutely nobody else even cares.
Because the prisons are kept hidden, what happens at them is intentionally kept out of the public eye and away from the news. There's no one on Narkina 5 who could spread the news further than that planet. And it's just one prison, so the ISB likely doesn't give a shit either, because the fallout of this is potentially just the loss of this labor for a few months at worst.
No one's discussing it, everyone has bigger problems at hand and the prison break will seemingly have zero impact on the galaxy at large.
Except that we know the impact it has. We know that Cassian is learning how to be a part of an organized rebellion, how to be part of a team, how to inspire others to fight back, and that this leads to the events of Rogue One and Cassian putting together a team of people who ultimately make it possible to take down the Death Star. The impact might not be as immediately felt as Aldhani, but it WILL have an impact, through Cassian.

Someone asked me before who my favourite Stark is, and it's Brandon "Ice Eyes" by a wide margin.
When old King Edrick Stark had grown too feeble to defend his realm, the Wolf's Den was captured by slavers from the Stepstones. They would brand their captives with hot irons and break them to the whip before shipping them off across the sea, and these same black stone walls bore witness. "Then a long cruel winter fell," said Ser Bartimus. "The White Knife froze hard, and even the firth was icing up. The winds came howling from the north and drove them slavers inside to huddle round their fires, and whilst they warmed themselves the new king come down on them. Brandon Stark this was, Edrick Snowbeard's great-grandson, him that men called Ice Eyes. He took the Wolf's Den back, stripped the slavers naked, and gave them to the slaves he'd found chained up in the dungeons. It's said they hung their entrails in the branches of the heart tree, as an offering to the gods. The old gods, not these new ones from the south. Your Seven don't know winter, and winter don't know them." (Davos IV, ADwD)
There is something endearing about stripping slavers, handing them back to their slaves, and taking revenge by spreading their entrails over heart trees. ♥️

pov flip or time after time for the soulmate AU because I'd love to see connor's reaction upon learning that not only is it serious it's a soul bond
Credit where credit is due. Connor doesn't get on Leon for being the second to last one to show up before the game -- Tyson takes care of that, crowing at the bruise above Leon's collarbone -- and he doesn't say anything when Leon drifts towards the center line during warm ups, half to tell Matthew there's no way in hell they're winning and half because it's hard to resist the pull. He just gives Leon an exasperated look, then proceeds to lead the charge in pounding Calgary into the ground.
Matthew's pretty pissed by the end of the game, eyes flashing and mouthguard chomped flat. It's obvious despite the calm, serious expression pasted on his face. Leon could tell even if he couldn't feel the anger simmering a few yards away. He almost wishes Calgary didn't have to fly out tonight, that he could take Matthew home and goad him into some rough, biting kisses, into pulling Leon's hair too hard, into making sure Leon will feel this game a lot longer than he should. It sucks that they don't have time.
That's fine. They play each other in a month. And even if Leon can't touch Matthew again tonight, he knows as soon as the Flames land in Winnipeg Matthew's gonna call him. That no matter how late it is, Leon's gonna pick up.
So Leon doesn't hang around near the visitor's room. He showers and gets dressed and follows the guys out to go get a celebratory drink -- no game for the next three days, a minor gift -- and when Connor sits down at his side, he doesn't jump.
"So," Connor says, taking a sip of his beer. "You and Tkachuk."
Leon takes a sip of his own beer, trying to cover for how dry his mouth has gotten. "Me and Tkachuk."
Connor squints at him. "You said that you're -- that it's serious."
Leon nods.
Connor swivels in his chair, facing Leon full on. It makes the side of Leon's face go hot. "Okay," he says. When Leon glances over, there's a bit of how Connor's always looked when they've talked about this -- exasperation, disbelief, disapproval -- but there's also worry making the corners of his eyes tight. "And like -- you know what you're doing?"
It's that worry on Connor's face, new to Leon -- or perhaps Leon just has never noticed it before -- that keeps Leon from snapping too harshly. "I've told you, Davo. We're not fucking up the team."
"I don't care about the team, dumbass," Connor snaps back. "Or, I mean, I do, but like -- you're not gonna get hurt. Right?"
Leon shakes his head, chewing the inside of his cheek. "No," he says. "No, I don't think so."
When Connor breathes out, his whole body deflates. "Okay," he says. "Okay."
For a moment, their corner of the bar is strangely silent, like they're sitting in a bubble outside the rest of the group.
Leon's the one to break it. "We're bonded."
Connor startles so badly he nearly spills his whole beer. "What?"
In retrospect, there were probably better ways to drop that fact. But like -- he and Matthew talked about it. He wanted to tell Connor soon anyway. He might as well now.
Leon turns in his chair, so that they can talk with their heads close together. Keep this to themselves. "Me and Matthew," he says. "We're bonded. It started a few years ago, but it's only -- last summer we talked and -- yeah. It's -- we're doing it."
Connor blinks at him. "You and Tkachuk."
Leon nods. "Yeah. Me and Matthew."
There's another pause, as Connor stares somewhere over Leon's left shoulder, and Leon tries not to panic. There's no reason to panic.
Then Connor closes his eyes and bursts into giggles. "God," he says, reaching out and clapping Leon on the shoulder. "That makes so much more sense. No wonder you're so fucking weird about him. Fuck."
"Hey," Leon says, even as relief unknots his gut, making him even more light-headed than the beer. "I'm not weird about him --"
"You are," Connor says, eyes cracking open. "You are so goddamn weird about him --"
"Fuck off--"
"You fuck off -- and you're happy?" The change in tone gives Leon whiplash, but Connor's face is open, earnest. No longer tight with disapproving concern. "With him?"
Leon thinks about last night, how Matthew fell asleep with his hand planted on Leon's chest and his lips against Leon's neck. About this morning, when he rolled over and saw the soft expression on Matthew's face as he slept, about the way Leon couldn't stop looking at him. About the connection between them, bright and golden and warm.
"You're happy," Connor says quietly, sitting back in his chair.
"Yeah," Leon admits, unable to keep the bewildered truth of it from his voice, because he is. He really is.

Small taste. (No official)
Draft!
Everyone, including Mya, Gendry, Stannis, and Ser Davos, as well as Melisandre, Arianne, and Oberyn, gathered around Galadriel as she stood close to the shore. They were all whispering, wondering why the queen had called them there of all places. Even so, the Queen's grandfather, Tywin Lannister, wondered the same. He and Robb Stark just arrived—a sort of meeting before the battle of King's Landing with the rest of the lords, but instead of a war map, they were met with a convocation on the beach, where Galadriel showed them the three dragon eggs. That was surprising to see and concerning. Nevertheless, all of them were standing anxiously, looking at her. She hummed deeply as she got closer to the dragon eggs before her. It was time for them to hatch, and now she has a good idea of how to do so. Yet the reason she wanted people to see it—to watch her do so—was to bring something new to the table that would turn the world upside down in more ways than people would think.
Is Daenerys Targaryen arrogant enough to believe she can top my level of dramatic endeavours? Well, well, she's about to learn a lesson. Galadriel flashed her devoted butler, Sebas, a wry grin as she looked to her side.
“My lady, are you sure about this?” Sebas asked, not necessarily worried but curiously.
“Yes, this way, I am not only securing my position in Westeros as the only true Queen, but also helping me expand in the future. It's time to spread my wings and show this world who I am."
Sebas only nodded profoundly but smiled. “I hope they'll be glad to see just a small part of you.”
Galadriel smirked. “Just a small part. But enough to forever change the world.”
Galadriel approached the three eggs, which were put on top of a big vessel filled with wood, and pulled out an incredible, dangerous dagger. It was one of hers. If she were to use one blade from this world, it would break on her skin. No, only a weapon with a high level of Yggdrasil could hurt her at all. So, with that in mind, Galadriel cut the palm of her hand, and blood came out. It was strange for Galadriel to see her blood. It didn't even look normal; it was more of a goldish and incredible dark colour, as if it were molten lava. Still, it landed on the three eggs, and soon enough, Galadriel put her hand on top of them.
“[Fire]” Galadriel's ability surprised everyone, especially Melisandre, who saw the fire coming from the Queen's hand as if she were in control of it. Yet, that wasn't all. The eggs, the fire, and Galadriel's blood reacted in such a way that it seemed as if the bonfire that all were prepared to see became more of a huge fire explosion. When the explosion blew up, it threw all of the people away, and what they encountered was a sizable fire tornado that shot up into the sky and devoured all of the wind.
Tumblr media
“Galadriel!” As they watched the fire tornado consume the queen, Mya screamed in terror alongside Arianne and the others. Yet no human being could ever step near such natural power. None but Sebas, the butler, who was pretty much closer to the giant fire tornado, seemed unbothered by the scorching heat.
However, while everyone could think of nothing but the worst, a loud roar was heard. An incredible, loud, and powerful roar. And soon, from the tornado of fire, three large shadows could be seen pushing the fire away.
There before them, three dragons emerged. No baby dragons, no horse-sized baby dragons, but giant mature dragons. The three of them were already aware of their surroundings. Their awakening was different from any other Targaryen dragon before. Their ancestors were awakened by blood, fire, and ash. Yet these three were awakened by the blood of a being out of this world. By the essence of a Supreme Being, of a Demon Empress. They were just not ordinary dragons, and it showed in their size.
Their eyes were of a deep golden colour, reminiscent of their creator's own eyes. Yet they had wit, intelligence, and more than just brute strength or fire lungs. The three dragons quickly presented themselves before their mother, their liege, and their master. There, on the beach, lies Galadriel, naked and unharmed. That in itself made the people feel relief, although they were still worried as the three dragons were watching them intensely. At first, one would have thought they would start attacking anyone on sight. But it was clear that it was the other way around. Those three dragons were daring, challenging them to step forward and put their mother in danger.
However, soon everyone's attention was focused on the fact that from the ashes, the smoke, and the embers laying around. Galadriel remains on her knees. Mya wanted to approach, and her love for her was bigger than her fear of the dragons. But as she stood forward, one of the dragons growled before a small chuckle was heard.
“Easy there, she won't hurt me,” Galadriel's voice sounded different. But that wasn't all. Everyone then saw, finally, that on Galadriel's naked back, two large black wings were now there.
The gasps, the confusion, and the shock of what they were watching just froze them in place. Galadriel quickly stopped up, but not before Sebas came with a long cloak to cover his lady. Yet those large wings were visible now.
Galadriel simply smiled at them. “Did it work?”
