If you liked Olivia Atwater's Regency Faerie Tales, definitely give The Witchwood Knot a try. It had a lot of the same magic.
When the Game Was War filled the void left by Winning Time. These tales of the magic of 80s basketball align with the one time in my life I had interest in the sport. It has been fun revisiting that time, and WTGWW provided a nice deep dive into elements and players that Winning Time was unable to explore in its short run.

1347 - Day 4
Madeline is often the first one to tend to the animals in the morning. Afterwards she takes some time to play music for them. Sometimes James comes out to help.
He also likes to spend more time with his family now even though he is still often just lost in his books.
Rachel meanwhile has developed a real fascination with water. Bath time is the one thing she loves most. Julianne can't help but smile at her antics, even though she's also covered head to toe in water after Rachel is done.
Evan doesn't care for bath time even less than he cares for dinner. He spends mist of his time playing outside or with his blocks.
Cassian has other things on his mind. With the yearly taxes due their savings have turned quite small and he thinks of a way to make some money next year. He decides to put his woodworking skills to it and crafts some scultures to sell on the market in his fathers old shop. It's not much yet but with some work he could even try to sell his furniture.
He tells his sister about his plans in the evening while they're out foraging
"I think that's a great idea, Cassian. I'm thinking about what I can do to contribute, too."
"How about you ask at the tavern down the road if you can play in the evenings? You're really skilled with the Lute. And i would pick you up when you're done, I wouldn't want you going home alone."
"Do you think they would take me?"
"As you said, You won't know until you ask."
Isabelle visits their home one day.
"You said I could come over and I wanted to see you."
"Sure you can! Welcome, come in.... it's not much I'm afraid but it's home."
"It's lovely, thank you"
She meets his other siblings and Julianne and they even go out fishing together and the nearby mountain lake.
Even though she doesn't fish much Cassian still appreciates the company.
"Do you want to go down to the pond and talk a while before you go home?"
Down at the pond by Cassians home they sit until evening.
"Father sends his regards for taking me to church a few weeks ago. He also asks when you would be able to come over and look at the roof again, there seems to be a leak."
"I will be over next week. We could also go to the market together, I want to sell some of my woodwork.... If you would like to accompany me, of course."
"Yes, of course! You know I like your company."
But the week after that Cassian has to postpone. Madeline has developed some kind of rash and needs to be taken to the local medic.
Thankfully she recovers quickly but it seems that Rachel catches whatever Madeline had as she's tired often and needs a lot of bedrest. There are some suspicious lumps on her throat as well... Cassian doesn't know what to make of it.
Meanwhile in Bergen Nora, Elsa and Verna manage their life without Sven to care for them. They decide to name the stray Clover as he's always sniffing about in the fields.
Elsa and Clover are inseperable. She spends most of her time with him and even takes him out when she and Verna play.
She also teaches her sister what her father told her about fishing.
"You have to pull real hard, put all of your back in it, Verna."
They manage to catch a few fish and bring them home that evening.
"Mommy, look what we brought back"
Elsa is really proud that she did as she promised her father and provided for the family.
"Love, that's amazing. Do you want me to cook it? We could eat grilled fish tonight."
Verna helps preparing the meal and that night they sit together happily chatting at the dinner table. Even though there's one chair that's empty.

Chicago Fest for Beatles Fans 2023
I've always loved connecting with people who share my passions. For me, cons aren't about meeting celebrities or room parties, though those are both fine. For me, it's about meeting people whose eyes don't glaze over after thirty seconds of your special interest. So when I began my deep dive into Beatlemania, I wanted to find people who really wanted to chat. (Some of you have witnessed these efforts here, to varying degrees of success.) So I googled "Beatles conventions" and, on a whim, bought a ticket to the Fest for Beatles Fans in Chicago, partly because I had someone to stay with (over an hour away, but still) and didn't need to shell out for a room.
If my goal was to engineer a feeling like, say, my best one on one convos here, or the Meta the Beatles discord, or old school livejournal, or the K/S cons, it was only marginally successful. Still, I think it was a positive experience and I am considering attempting to afford the next one in February at the utterly stunning remodeled TWA hotel.
The Fest, which used to be called BeatleFest until Apple Corps intervened in 1997, has been ongoing since 1974 when founder Mark Lapidos asked John Lennon if he was cool with the idea of a Beatles convention. You can see various guests over the years here, so clearly it's a known quantity in Beatledom. Many people there this weekend have been attending since the beginning, and it's an annual (or bi-annual) tradition.
It differs from other fan cons I've been to in that the focus is largely on music itself. This is natural, but what I mean is, there is constantly at least one musical act playing Beatles music in some form. On the main stage and breakout rooms you also have guests: Pattie Boyd, Gregg Bissonette (Ringo's current drummer), Billy J Kramer, Terry Sylvester (the Hollies), Joey Molland (Badfinger), Jay Bergen (John's lawyer), Allan Kozinn (The McCartney Legacy), Bruce Spizer (various books about the recordings), Kenneth Womack (upcoming Mal Evans book!), Susan Ryan (long time Fest fixture and historian), Skylar Moody (Beatles TikTok), Jude Kessler (The John Lennon series), Sara Schmidt (Meet the Beatles for Real), Steve Matteo (Act Naturally: the Beatles on Film). There are dealers with vintage and current merch and memorabilia, a "museum" room with historic merch, old clippings, an "ashram" where you can attend various meditation and yoga sessions, a karaoke room, costume and talent contests, even a Beatles Rock Band setup I failed to attend despite my yearning to one day play it.
Some of the panels were pretty sparsely attended, and there was a strong feeling that a lot of people go to listen to the bands and stay up all night. But what that meant for those of us who were there to talk and make connections was, I got to talk and make a ton of connections. I met Sara Schmidt and her mother and they took me under their wing and introduced me to anyone who was anyone. I had a lovely chat with Ken Womack. Wally Podrazik insisted on taking a photo of my Nerk Twins shirt and demanded I email him. I spoke to Allan Kozinn about how a John boy comes to write the most comprehensive Paul biography ever. I met a lady named Tina who is going to hook me up with info about early slash and RPF fic (because I've heard several of you youngin's declare it's a relatively new phenomenon and I know it isn't!). I danced to a great cover band while looking like Twiggy. I had a lot of comments about my Stamp Out the Beatles shirt. I spoke to Steve Matteo about his book about the Beatles on film, and shared my own film work in which he took an avid interest.
All in all, it never got as in depth as you can with good fandom friends in a quiet setting. I've also heard that attendance and quality have gone down in recent years, and changes have been implemented due to stupid copyright shit (like, no being able to show any of the licensed films or cartoons? Which is a huge bummer.). But I do feel that I made connections and furthermore, felt embraced and included and warmly welcomed. No one questioned the fact I got here via "Get Back," no one challenged me on being new, no one made any attempt to gatekeep or Beatle bro at me. Only ONE person even asked who my favorite Beatle was. They all seemed genuinely delighted to have a new weirdo to share their passion with.
I haven't decided if I'm attending again, but I do already have plans in the works to suggest a few panels more in line with the type of con activity I like to see. Because even if it's not exactly the interactions I've been seeking, there's no substitute for face to face discussion and squee.

I had another idea after finally seeing Defending Jacob & re-watching all of Boston Legal (forgot how good it is!)... What if after everything Andy went through he left the DA's office for a fresh start & a new life. He ends up at the prestigious Boston law firm of Crane, Poole, & Schmidt. How will he adjust to the eccentric world of Alan Shore, Jerry Espenson, Shirley Schmidt, & Denny Crane?

1347 - Day 1
Turns out that all these rumours about an invasion are true - the neighbouring lords call for battle but strangely, there's no recruiter working in Windenburg. Cassian breathes a sigh of relief. He wouldn't know what to do if he had to leave his family now.
He takes care of the harvest instead an plans to visit Sir McKinely in a few days to talk about the work he needs done in his new home.
James realises that he just isn't made for farmwork. The only thing he feels capable of is taking care of the chickens now... he also has a rare moment of bonding with his brother Evan before he returns to his studies. He's reading a very interesting book about the stars and their alignment right now and he can't help but make some notes on it.
Rachel is walking a bit better now and all that work running around is making her quite hungry. There's no food in the house that's save from her!
Aunt Charlotte visits one day and brings gifts for the children. She and Madeline really have a close bond.
"Thank you so much, Auntie, I love it! I'm almost big enough to play that lute you gave me as well. When I can play a bit I will visit you at the abbey!"
A few weeks into 1347 Cassian visits the new McKinley homestead.
"I still need some structural work done and then there's furniture. I would appreciate it if you could help with that as well."
"I will do my best, sire. Do you know when you're family will be here, have you heard from them at all?"
"Not yet, boy, but I don't think they will be sending letters. The whole thing is dangerous enough as it is. We just have to be patient and wait. You said they would have started their journey around the end of last year, right?"
"Yes, that's what they planned to do."
"Then I will not be expecting them for at least two more months."
Cassian gets to work on his tasks.
He never had much skill in blacksmithing but carpentry is something he has a passion for.
After a few weeks he managed to build an awful lot of furniture for the house and the structural work is done, too. Now all thats left is the upstairs.
Even though the ground is still cold he also planted some crops so that the family will have something to live off when they finally arrive. He intends to take care of the garden until they come.
In Bergen Sven has to say goodbye to his family for now. His brothers call came and he needs to answer it.
"Be safe, Father.... and write, please, so that we know you're ok!"
Elsa is struggling to keep her emption out of her voice.
"Yes, love, of course. I will write as often as I can. Your mother will read you the letters, okay?"
He kisses Verna and Nora goodbye and walks off towards the castle.
The small family now has to learn to live on their own. But one day while foraging Elsa finds something amazing.... She stumbles upon a lost dog waiting for her right in front of their house!
"Why hello there... what are you doing here all alone in the cold?"
The small creature follows her footsteps to the house and she feels sorry for him.
"Do you want to come inside?"
"I promise I will take care of him, mother, can we please keep him?"
Nora agrees. A little happiness in their life is something they need badly right now.
"Of course, love.... of course he can stay."
