Back on the grind! For consideration this week: the College of Heraldry! For bards that want to play as a hyper-powerful hypeman for one ally at a time.

Staying on the weekly schedule so far- I'm grinding away at my [Prototype] inspired Monk subclass, which will probably end up being a few pages long.

So far in BG3 I have two save files and two Tavs, Elio and Lilac. Elio is between acts 1 and 2 (just got done at the créche and monastery,) and Lilac is very early act 1, i haven’t even gotten to the grove with her. Elio is a tiefling draconic bloodline sorcerer, and is a nice and competent young man who rolls decently and helps people where he can. Lilac is a drow bard who once rolled so shittily that I had to reload my save file because I accidentally killed Gale.

I Want to Talk with People About Deer Related Signs!

Good evening everybody, I want to talk to those of you who have interacted with Deer related spirits before, especially in regards to Deer Cultus. I know a lot of Polytheist and Pagan bloggers here on this site used to write about this subject, and I’d like to have a chat with any of you if at all possible. 

Deer symbols, images, and signs are popping up like crazy, especially during this last week. Starting on the Solstice, I was doing a bit of spirit journeying when I came across a Male being or deity who wore a helmet that appeared in the shape of a Deer’s head, complete with a large rack of antlers. And then yesterday I got a totally unrelated Tarot reading from a friend and the first card that popped up, which was the Magician, featured the Magician in question wearing a helmet or headdress carved or designed like a Deer’s head, also complete with a rack of antlers. 

Deer and Deer energy isn’t new to me at all. I’m a Bow Hunter for one thing, but even outside of being a Hunter, I’ve been around Deer all of my life. There’s been times where Deer would come into town and there is a clearing half wayup the mountain from where I can see from my front porch, or at least when I used to be able to see that far, Doe’s and their young would hang around undisturbed. 

Of course, the most powerful Deer related moment that happened to me took place back in 2010 or 2011 when I was working on immigrating to Canada at the time. We went on an eight hour roar trip to take care of some irritating paperwork and on the way saw a good fifty to a hundred Deer hanging out on either side of the road and watching us as we drove by.

There are deities that I worship that have various levels of connection to Deer, with Freyr probably being the one with the most concrete connection to Deer, but I’m not sure if whom I came across and met was Freyr. My fledgling relationship with Frey is such that I’m not entire sure, but it didn’t feel like Frey, or Pwyll, or any of the other deities with a some sort of connection to Deer in any kind of way. 

So yeah, I’d like to know your stories, experiences, and any advice you are able to share with me regarding this subject.  Thank you all in advance!

ABILITY CHECK

-> They are not above hiding away. They lack faith that there is tenderness in the distance between them and others, and in the chapel of the forest dense with oaks they cannot find comfort in inevitability, or in stargazing flowers, or in faith of the unknown. They are unknown: to themselves, to others. Because of that they expect distrust from others, particularly when they vanish from sight with the slide of their hood, their whole body shrouded in that invisibility cloak like a child hiding beneath a blanket. They crouch, hunched over closer to the ground until their fingers can comb through the sticks and dirt and leave divot paths like rivers for rainwater on a microscopic scale; tucked to the side, just far enough away that no one would risk stumbling over their hidden shape, they rest their head on their knees with their bowed neck taunt with the strain. Breathe in. Breathe out. Don't cry or they'll hear you.

-> No one will ask where they have gone ( is that true? or are you just believing that, separating yourself preemptively from your anticipated rejection, saving yourself the spilled guts? what is the truth? ) They know the limits of their own shroud: in two hours they will have to expose themselves, ready or not, to the subjugation and perception of the eyes of others again. But do they draw them? Are they noticed? Are they living, heart fluttering in their chest, their lungs cinching like the strings strung through the mouth of a woman's perfumed sachet? They are unable to touch the thin boundary between themselves and others and it shows in how they skulk along edges; they do not eat at the fire, their teeth wearing on dried rations of their own and roots and bits of scavenged fruit. They walk 10 paces behind on the road, too far for conversation, prepared to break away at a moment's notice. They speak little, only when spoken to, as if their very words were small trespasses to be forgiven. Their skin prickles along the back of their neck, between their accursed scales. When they raise their head they can see Ame at the edge of camp, separated from them by brush and tree roots, his posture stilled like a deer in a clearing. And he is looking out, fingers fidgeting with some tacky spellmix.

ARCANA CHECK: 19 ( 11 + 8 )

-> ---No, he is seeing. He is seeing them, and they are frightened by that. Did they ever want to be seen to begin with? Did they want to be noticed after casting themselves out and hiding away? A feeling of shame floods them ( ---for being seen. for hiding at all. for being found, foolishly, unthinking of the magic of others in the very same campsite. ) Their throat drowned in the guilt, closed up around it as they feel the chatter of their teeth and the quiver of their bottom lip. They look back, caught by his endless doe-eye gaze, the single shift of his false legs in place as they are sensed, observed, beheld. Perhaps they are the prey animal in the clearing, cowering from their overexposed nerves flayed fresh, and he is the observer instead. Don't look they want to mouth, but say nothing. Turn away.
