Type research
Eye on Design have a lot on typogrpahy. Some work that caught my attention was this: https://eyeondesign.aiga.org/ballpill-is-what-a-font-looks-like-when-its-designers-on-the-rebound/
It is type made by a french type designer: Benoît Bodhuin. I like the different font weights displayed.
An extrat from eye on design says: As such, Bodhuin says the new font was a continuation of a process rather than a style, which “brings a different answer to a very similar problem: the grid and its construction. It’s turning a subject around in order to define it.” The designer often looks back to previous work in order to create new fonts—“either by continuity, or by rupture,” he says—which might help explain the speed at which he can come up with the concept for a font, complete it, and get it to market.
What stood out to me most was that the designers latrst type and others have been a ‘continuation’ of others. Like he is constantly developing them and changing them into something new with hints of the past. The words ‘grid’ and ‘construction’ also stood out to me as important aspects of type design.

But is was exciting to look through - and you can see how his older types have influenced newer ones. At a first glance the letters and words can see completely different but when studying them further you can see rules and systems that have been put in place. They were all very different, exciting. Although I’m unsure if they are just creative outcomes or if they are based on anything in particular.
