It was an evening of wins and losses for Måneskin. They won for Best Alternative Video.

But lost out Best New Artist to Dove Cameron and Group of the Year to BTS.

But the biggest loss went to the at home viewers because the band's performance of "Supermodel" (with women who looked (to me) like a bunch of Giorgia Soleris) was heavily censored.

People thought it was because of Damiano's wearing of chaps

MTV VMA's doesn’t care about bums.

but I think it's because Vic lost her pasty.

A second but -I don't think that's why they pulled back initially because you see her afterwards. Maybe the director cued the cameras too early in expectation of her pulling off her top, or Damiano was doing something they thought would get too risque so pulled back, then had to do it again because of Vic.

-I wonder if there will be a small group of people will take this as Måneskin's punishment of backing out of this weekend's Readings & Leeds festival. A topic that came up during Zane Lowe's interview with Muse lead singer (and one of Kate Hudson's baby daddies) Matt Bellamy who was on promoting Muse's new glorious cd "Will of the People".

Starting at the 44 minute mark Lowe asks Bellamy to speak on his experience at the festival and how Måneskin and Jack Harlow backed out to play the VMAs. I'm not exactly sold on Lowe's idea that Readings & Leeds would have provided them with more fans, I think it was a misguided swap because they've have rescheduled on Europe so many times this year in order to do things stateside that if they do have to cancel gigs do it because it's unavoidable, not because they want to tick off boxes like performing at awards ceremonies. They had a European fanbase before Eurovision so neglecting them for broader appeal is shady boots.

Maybe next time if they ever get an awards show invite during a tour they can do like Bad Bunny and throw from the concert.

I am late to the party but you have to admit, it’s been quite the whirlwind following June 13th’s Festa Dinner revelations. And I am sorry to be visiting a topic that’s maybe been talked to death. Sometimes my brain doesn’t let go of things in a timely manner. Sorry! 

I think the release of the crushingly expensive collector’s edition of PROOF triggers me to relive that feeling I had immediately following the dinner.

After processing a few months now I have something to say about the song Yet To Come.

It took me a while to put the song in rotation on my playlists. I could not watch the song’s video very much after the premier. It took me a while to watch the music show performances they did immediately following Festa. I was that heartbroken... I could not make myself watch those music show performances for at least two or three weeks. They still make my heart drop because the expressions on their faces, knowing those were their last moments performing in front of Army for a long time [feels my heart stutter again]. I cannot fathom what the members felt knowing they were stepping away from performing in front of us. 

Now I am ready to talk about this lyric: “back to square one”

I posted a few days ago about hoping BLACKPINK did well with their new comeback and I 100% meant it. I am not a fan of theirs and literally know nothing about their music and from what little I’ve heard and seen, it is not something I really connect with. I’ve seen the fan war crap on Twitter. It is what it is...it’s Twitter after all...and the farce of the VMAs last night was embarrassing. 

But from what I understand, BlackPink was away for a long time and now they are putting out new music, so good for them and their fans. Their fans seem just as rancorous as Army when it comes to our loyalty. Their song skyrocketed on YouTube and was at the top of the iTunes chart until 2-year old Dynamite dethroned it.

My point is, Blackpink’s fans were waiting a long time for this come back. 

Just like we are waiting for the day BTS will come back with new group music.

Another Korean artist whose fan base stuck around: PSY.

We really need to thank PSY because in my mind, as far as the western music market goes, HE is the one who paved the way. HE was the first Korean artist I heard played on mainstream radio with Gangnam Style. He brought Kpop to the world. That’s my opinion because that was MY first exposure to Kpop before I even know what Kpop was.

And then PSY was away for a while being a music industry exec and then he came back with That That with SUGA and that song is a smash and he seems to be very beloved in Korea and even across the world because that song did well and is still doing well.

My point in all this is, it made me start thinking about BTS and the lyrics of Yet To Come. I interpret the song as “we’ll be back at some point in the future, the past was really great but when we come back we know we will be more ourselves and starting from scratch.” 

Now I get it. 

Yes, as far as we know at the time of this post, the military obligation will be something they will complete in whatever way it ends up being whether one at a time or in groups or whatever, and supposedly beginning at the end of this year with Jin. They may be gone away for quite a while. We don’t know.

They are saying in those lyrics that they will have to start from scratch with their more grown selves, their more mature outlooks on life, their statements about whatever it is they want to tackle in their song lyrics. And the ever-present spectre of wondering if their fans will still be around. Back to square one. 

I don’t think they understand that Army are still going to be here just like Blackpink’s and Psy’s fans were for them. There won’t be that much they’ll have build back up in that regard.

Armys, be prepared, we must be strong for however long it takes them to get back and embrace and support everything each individual member gives us/has given us in the meantime as solo work.

A bittersweet feeling lingered because I was expecting a tour or at least a few more concerts this year, but I am also so grateful for all the music, appearances and content we’ve received since. 

Now that we know there will be a super-mega concert in October, the bittersweetness has mostly faded away. Run BTS Special Telepathy episodes also helped sweep that lingering feeling away as well.

If they are so inclined, maybe they will give us more information about what’s in store for their future. We may have another solo album dropped by October or at least know which one is coming next. 

It’s just that the PROOF collector’s edition feels like the heavy vault door from the PROOF concept photos...the vault door closing with a deep and dense resonance. Makes my heart tremble a little however, knowing they had the freedom to take this direction means the world to me. 

I'm the first anon who asked about the vma! When I said people were saying the awards were rigged because BTS didn't send an acceptance/thank you speech, I didn't mean that they were the ones who bought the award. Many people said that it was rigged, because originally it was supposed to go to the girls and everyone in the industry/award show staff knew it was going to go to them. This is what they/we meant by rigged, because they couldn't have been eligible, yet they got a nom, and a win (=rigged, because possibly paid for) But then it was announced that BTS actually won, and since they always or almost always send acceptance videos but they didn't this time, we assumed that they didn't even knew about the win. Meaning they weren't supposed to win, because the other company bought the award for the girls. I hope you understand what I'm trying to say 😅 I said this in my previous ask too, but I agree with you: since they are on a break as a group I honestly don't see them doing thank you videos, especially not for awards like this (and especially not after the official bighit/bts account barely acknowledged the voting at all). Maybe they show up for year end award shows, but to be honest I don't think they will 😅

I hope you understand what I was trying to say, I wasn't implying that BTS bought the award at all.

Also one more thing: the VMA's viewership was very low this year. BTS didn't attend last year, it was around 900k, BTS didn't attend this year and it was 600k :/ So if they did this to boost their viewership that's highly unprofessional of them. But it's an american award show which is not that high and mighty anymore so what do we expect 🤷‍♀️

About the girls if you let me reflect on them: I don't know them that well, but I do know that their label has pushed their comebacks back a lot. The girls themselves talked a lot about wanting to release new music, and they themselves didn't know when their comeback would come. I think they still want to make music, but I wouldn't blame them if they disbanded after their contract ends next year and did other things that interest them. It's kind of sad that they are a 6 year old group and only have like 30 songs under their name because their label literally didn't lift a finger to give them songs and comebacks.

That's all. I just wanted to clear up what I said with my broken English. Also how did they win group of the year but not best kpop?? Like the category was literally made for them just because americans couldn't stomach the thought of a successful asian group getting nominated in a main category... And they had a huge year last year, and lost 💀 the math isn't adding up.

Ahhhh okay, okay. Personally, I don't know, like I said BTS doesn't always send a thank you video, this time it may be that they just didn't want to. BTS can be unpredictable in that kind of thing honestly.

That one of them tweeted about it is enough and the photo they chose was pretty funny and a bit ironic considering everything that happened a few hours before.

Regardless of the fact that BTS deservedly won, those shows are always rigged one way or the other, undeserving artists win an award and other deserving ones all walk away empty-handed. I don't think BTS will be back next year but who knows, maybe one or more members will do it individually.

About the ratings, I am not surprised, since a few years ago those kinds of shows are getting low ratings, I repeat not for nothing the grandmothers did what they did this year with the presentation of BTS, I guess MTV thought the same thing would happen with this group and their fans.

About BP… I have nothing to say, hopefully, they can do what they really want to do or keep doing what they have been doing between so much time off from group activities.

What I don't get is why Brian's like me crazy was not nominated in vmas . It was released before July so was eligible for nomination . Also noticed one thing all kpop nominations are groups so are they thinking that since bts are not doing group activities , they don't take their solo activities seriously.

Erm that's not true, considering in 2022 BP's Lisa was nominated and won over BTS for Best K-Pop. So solo acts have been nominated previously. Iperf just think MTV doesn't particularly like BTS in general, outside the ratings grab.

I read some not so very nice comments about the Blackpinks VMA performance on Twitter (as a reaction to some not very nice comments about BTS...well, it's just another day on Twitter after all). But since I like appreciating different flavors, here's my very personal, unknowledgeable opinion: I personally don't like the song (no biggie though. I don't really like 'Permission to Dance' either). But I liked the performance. I read the "lack of energy" comments...but I didn't really see it. The camera angles where sometimes a bit off, but that's not Blackpinks fault. And their choreo consisted of more small, internal, sensual movements with focus on the hips. So naturally they weren't covering a lot of space on stage. But faulting them for that is like critizising a belly dancer for lack of jumps in the choreography. And as someone who practiced a little bit of belly dancing (by studying youtube videos. Didn't do dance classes, lol. But I can do the basic belly dance movements and isolations): getting to move your hips in a way that is visible with the camera having a wider focus, is very, very difficult and requires a lot of precise muscle isolation. Some of the arm movements could have been a bit wider...but I'm really reaching for the little things now. I especially liked how they were strutting the runway in this scene (extra shoutout to Lisa for being extra sassy the entire performance. I watched the performance you linked. Had thoughts. So I searched up the dance practice for Pink Venom and watched that too (linked here).

I agree the camera angles in the performance didn't do them many favours, and their choreography is the sort made for Show Champion's camerawork - worm's eyes and close-ups. Many of the props/effects were unnecessary, distracting, and obstructed the view sometimes. Watching their performance, I felt they met expectations - not going all out, but doing what's required well enough. I also feel like the performance was a bit... restrained, maybe inhibited is a better word, which is at odds with the sensual/dangerous theme of Pink Venom. But it could just be nerves from the girls doing this for the first time. BlackPink are not exactly known for their performances, but I think they did good enough. They've generated decent buzz for their album at least, so good luck to them this comeback.

The one win I'm really pleased for, is Lisa's. Lalisa is a bop and I'm glad she got recognized for it. I like Lisa. She seems sweet and dances better than anybody in her group. Good luck to her too.
