happy 9 years, big hero 6!

so i do make this post every year (except i think maybe last year i forgot) just to sort of commemorate and reflect on something that’s been in my life and holds a place in my heart. it’s always corny and objectively stupid so i’m gonna lean into that because i do what i want and cringe culture doesn’t apply to me. big hero 6, all of its characters, and all of its community has really been a rock for me at different times of my life when i needed it. through mental health struggles and like . my house burning down. i don’t think i would’ve held on the way i did (and didnt lol) if not for baymax and the gang. so, again, for the ninth year in a row, a big thank you to everyone involved with big hero 6. no matter how many years pass it will always feel like home <3

Just a shower thought: Honey Lemon is actually the most powerful member of Big Hero 6. Potential wise. I mean she literally has the entire power of the periodic table in her hands. She can poison, intoxicate, chemically burn, or otherwise seriously injure people. The only thing holding her back is her strong sense of morale. Because in application she only uses all that power to burn through obstacles, and restrain people using sticky substances and as hard crystal-like substances as a means of short-range transportation. (I'm studying chemistry and just learned about the periodic table and holy shit she has so much damage potential!)

 When joining a new year long program childhood friends, Hiro and Varian, expected to have a good year together, but plans may just change with trouble hidden behind two very bitchy faces.

They already felt the growing headache for the year starting up.

In turn, joining a new Science program after moving from NYC to San Fransokyo was not at all how Hugo and Tani wanted to spend their time settling into their not-so-new home, but whatever the people want, whatever.

Doesn't mean they can't have a little fun while they're there.

Kind of a hot take.

Okay so I don't think I'm the first one to say this. But as much as I love the Owl House and Amphibia (also I'm really interested in watching The Ghost and Molly McGee and Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur), and don't get me wrong...

I'm very sad to see how Disney TV is now sleeping on BH6:TS as if it never existed in the first place. Especially in Chibi Tiny Tales, and this is why I'm unsure about watching it (asides from spoilers from the other shows). I mean, it could just be a 2020s original series crossover thing, then it makes sense, but I'm just saying how I feel, because after all BH6 started the chibi trend and now that's not even acknowledged. Please don't hate me for it.

Edit: I just saw the 4th of July promo and it appears I'm correct. Although since Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure wasn't there in Chibi Tini Tales and the recent promotion material (I think?), Tho It might be just a crossover for Disney TVA original programming and it doesn't include shows that stuff from their animated canon, since so far Moana is the only film that got chibi shorts

Baymax! Episode 1

Welcome back to Big Hero 6! That's an interesting thing to say.

We're thrown in, no real explanation, Baymax rides around town in his charger and comes across the old lady from the trailer. There's a few interesting facts about this scene, first off, she speaks a little Spanish which leads me to believe that Baymax can speak multi-language. Second is that Baymax observes her getting her mail and sees the name on the letter, more or less stalking her to get her name so he can treat her. Revealing her name to be Kiko Tanaka.

Tanaka could be a reference to Opal Tanaka who was in the X-Factor comics which doesn't have any correlation to the story as far as I can tell but in the comics she does come in contact with a "Hiro" aka Cyberai who is set to marry her by her father at one point. (There's also a Rita and Robert Tanaka but they don't have as much story)

But her deal is that she has back problems and needs exercise, which leads to swimming and she has a fear of water so Baymax has to help her get over it. Oh, look, she has a dog named Bailey.

There's also a picture of someone but there's no telling, his face is covered. In fact we see pictures of him all over her house but they make it a point to blur it or cover it with something.

Anyway, she doesn't take to kindly to Baymax trying to help so she prepares with-

Scissors, knitting needles, and a staple gun. She's gonna pop our friend. On her way to get him however, she gets her exercise in. It was all a ploy by Baymax to get her to follow him and she walks all over town into a trap. The pool.

Why does she hate water? She doesn't. She hates the place.

Those pictures were apparently her husband before he died (which explains why she lives next door) and you can follow the rest but what I don't understand is that she never swam before he died anyway but she wishes she had. To which Baymax says "It's never too late." I think this compliments the theme to the movie with getting over one's death and carrying on their legacy. It was never too late to join robotics and go to college.

That's it but stay after the credits because it teases the next episode...and also Hiro!

So, it wasn't exactly clear from the trailers but these episodes are only around 10 minutes long, (this one was 7) which kind of has me worried for the franchise as a whole because that's the sort of format BH6:TS took on in its final season to "not so well" results. But we'll see where the series ends up on its own merit.

Hey, Disney writers, can we please get some new motivations for the police to hate superheros? Because this whole personal vendetta “I hate every single one of them because a super villain killed my father and the superhero at the time didn’t stop it” thing Chief Cruz has going on isn’t really working for me.

“Superheros can’t save everyone.” Nether can the police, idiot. So how about you work with Big Hero 6 so you can save more lives together than either of you could individually?

And if you still want him to hate them, how about: “I don’t like them because they cause too much damage to the infrastructure and certain people are tired of cleaning it up and are breathing down my neck about it.” It’s not a great reason either, but it’s certainly better than what we got.
