Ruido de moscas by Beatriz Osornio Morales

can you do a breakdown about Betty's psychological transformation post-Cartagena please? because she came back so strong that i need to apply that in my life lmao
Hiii!
Ngl I'm not a psychologist or anything of the sorts lol but I think what Betty went through was a whole really shattering experience.
When we meet Betty at the beginning of the novela, she was a woman clinging to her last hope of love and fulfillment. She’s been hurt horribly before but she's healed enough that she is willing to try again (of course, she still bears a lot of mental scars from what Miguel did to her, but she knows she'll never be able to fully get over it until she can find real love). It is her life's dream to love and be loved but after the double date with Aura Maria and Roman's joke when they left her waiting, she is fully convinced that this dream is impossible. This is why she is so willing to take the chance when Armando gives her the opporrunity.
In Armando she saw perfection. She saw a man like no other, one that is deep and kind and just and that somehow loves her. She has no reason to doubt it's false because he's always been so attentive and special to her (a bunch of people even tell her so way before the Plan), to the point where he defends and protects her and trusts in her his deepest insecurities and most vulnerable moments. So it makes logical sense that he is developing feelings, even if it's a complete break from his pattern of usual lover (from whom she also knew he never felt anything, too).
She loves this man so much she is willing to sacrifice the only rock in her life: her integrity, her hard work, the values her father is so proud of. She's willing to lower her barriers (which she had, very high, as she often tried to put distance between them before and during the lover's phase, how she was initially in denial, how she often tried to break up, etc). She's willing to go to sleep with a dirty consciousness as long as she can love Armando.
Betty commits several serious acts throughout the novela, including adultery by being with an engaged man, being involved in smuggling, faking numbers, lying and deceiving to her dad while also involving him in the deception without him knowing (when she KNOWS he's despise it all if he knew what Terramoda actually was), creating an alternative business that is supposed to be super very "legal" but we all know it's just a loophole in the law, etc.
Beatriz Pinzón willingly gives up her peace, her morals, her values, and even those of her own FAMILY for Armando Mendoza because she truly believes he's the best man there is ans he deserves all sacrificies.
And then she learns he's just as awful as any other man she has ever met before. Except that now, she has given him EVERYTHING she has.
This time, the man who used her not only used her love and her body and discarded her like trash. This time, he also took with him her honor, her values, her peace of mind; he involved her in illicit and immoral businesses, and also involved her father, the only man who actually loves her.
This leads her to a complete mental breakdown.
Every hope and dream is shattered, and she's convinced that her life will forever be full of misery. She's convinced no man will ever love her. She's filled with blind rage because once again she was willing to trust and to love and to lower her barriers just to once again be used and laughed at and mocked, to later be discarded like an old rag.
Betty suffers a full mental breakdown, and even Nicolás points out that Betty looks a bit deranged, because she straight up nearly was. She went through pretty much the same destructive depressive episode that Armando went through, except that Armando's destruction was towards himself, while Betty's was towards Armando.
Betty straight up becomes abusive towards Armando in a moment of blood lust. She wants revenge. She wants to make him feel just a bit of the distress and regret and mental anguish that she's suffering, and that's why she does all that she does during the revenge arc.
Later, the Boatd Meeting happens, and it's in part a bit of letting go. It's over, she thinks, and she can now finish her revenge. By this point she realizes that hurting him hurts her, too, because she actually loves Armando even though she's still filled with rage and disgust.
By this point, Betty is exhausted. She's tired and as she puts distance with all that keeps reminding her of her rage (Ecomoda, the executives, the beautiful world she only sees from afar), said rage calms down enough for the real sentiment behind ut to come out: pain. A lot, a lot of pain.
And I know I've been talking a lot about pre Cartagena and the question is about Post Cartagena, but the pre era is crucial because it nearly destroyed her. It broke her to such a point that it allowed her to repuefe herself back together as a different and stronger woman. Betty had suffered a lot throughout her life and she had been used before, but this particular experience with Armando was so emotioanlly and psychologically devastating that it helped her reinvent herslef becahse it shattered all her hope and dreams and perception of the world.
She finds refuge in Catalina. Actually, I should correct myself, Betty starts finding hope since Bolocco and Gisela and Adriana. All these beautiful women are proof to her that there are still good and physically beautiful people in the world. That they're not invinsible goddesses with problems and oh so above us all. That they're regular people too. When she goes to Cartagena, she experiences somethign completely foreign to her before: acceptance. Kindness. Inclusion. Interest.
Her physical change is only a representartion of her inner change, and also a consequence of it. Because Betty broke so much she needed a change. She was scared but she was so done with herself and trusted Cata so much that she allowed herself to try.
Cartagena was in general an incredibly healing experience. She got to meet different people who were kind and learned that even people "like her" could still participate and be wanted in the world. She spent a lot of time with women who she would have in another time idealized and seen as unapproachable and above her, and they treated her as an equal and in some cases even talked to her about their own regular woman's struggles. Betty basically learned that regardless of what looks back at you un the mirror, you can still be unappreciated, hurt, used, and discarded. But she also learned that it is within herself the power to change what she didn't like seeing, which is why she accepts Cata's offer for a change even though Betty was terrified of the change!
She saw a more human side of the population, and saw that she was part of the world. She also saw that there is so much beautiful people, inside and outside. Additionally, Catalina helped her channel her rage and hurt, and guided her into forgiving Armando for what he did.
All of this leads to Betty having a different mentality when she comes back from Cartagena. She no longer feels alieanated from the world. She understands the power of other people's words and unkindness, and knows all women can do something to feel better about their reflection, but, like her, many need guidance because when you've never seen anyone who looks like you being guided and seen as pretty, you'll forever think you're less.
She comes back wanting to demonstrate that she's no longer the same Betty. She also wants to make a genuine change in the world by helping women in her same position.
Betty was always patient and good with people and able to articulate her thoughts pretty well, and always had this leadership aura dormant within her, so that also helped a lot! Betty doesn't change as much, rather, she polishes and lets shine a part of her that her fear of rejection and insecurity and all the years of abuse kept hidden.
Oh, another very important thing for Betty's success was her support system. Her mom, Nicolas, Cata, don Hermes, her Cartagena friends, and even Armando during her collection launch! Betty never stopped needing that extra push, wich is completely normal in any situation but in hers specifically the role of her support system is absolutely crucial!
Basically and in summary, what helped her was:
The complete shattering of her previous beliefs that led her to get out of her comfort zone
Enacting her revenge and realizing by herself that it wasn't satisfactory or good for anyone
Time and space away from Ecomoda
Good beautiful (in and nout) people (support system)
Her own personality (kindness, empathy, and being good with people)
Changing her appearence since it was a boost of self steem!
I hope I didn't miss anything jajaja thank you for the question and I'm sorry that I took forever to answer!!

PART 5!!! WAS!!!! EVERYTHING!!!!!
Reader really was going through it in the beginning, poor girlie 😭😭ALSO I'm starting the "A New Love For Myrtle 1944" petition. Sing to make this woman happy again. We didn't spend much time with her, but hers is a sad story in need of a happy ending. Every signature counts.
I love that she's knitting now and I love that she's sending it all to Bucky ❤️❤️ You just know that those are his most prized possessions ❤️
And eeeew, where was my Miller trigger warning?? 😭 She's so mean 😭 Like, I get she's a product of her time and I'm judging her with a modern mindset, but YEAH I'M JUDGING HER!! People are dying! Let them be happy! Chase your own bliss, girl! Leave them youngsters alone!
OMG, Bucky's POV is all I ever wanted. Loved being inside that man's head. He is a mess lmfao. But I can only imagine what he was like the first few days since he can't remember himself. Buck was blessed with an endless amount of patience because we all know Bucky talked about that 1-minute at most phone call the entire time.
AND HIS REACTION TO GETTING THAT FIRST LETTER AND THE PARCEL WAS SO CUTE, LIKE MY HEART!!!
Their letters? 10/10. Soooo perfect, it felt like I was prying into other people's private conversations. And I love the little details she adds just for him, like the Yankees winning the whatever it's called (sorry, baseball confuses me severely).
And honestly, the TEASING the boys must be putting Bucky through between letters 😂😂 And he's on cloud nine, he doesn't even care. And I bet Buck is thrilled for him too ❤️ I love them besties, your honor.
AND YAY TO BABY EGAN ON BOARD!!! Coming soon to a hospital far, far, far away from Bucky 😔✊
Despite the little joke I sent in another ask, I get her reasoning for not telling him, but man's not stupid. He's gonna figure out pretty fast he's about to become a father if he hasn't already. What's left for us to find out is if he's going to write to her, saying like "the jig is up. Can we name them after my plane? Not the one that went down, that wasn't even mine" or if he's going to wait for her to bring it up.
At any rate, pretty sure he'll miss the birth since, as he said in the last episode, he's been in the stalag for like eight months already. Hopefully he will learn how to astral project by then 🙏🏻
History question to wrap this up: could POWs send things out of the camp to the people they were corresponding with? Can't imagine they'd want to part with anything, but I wouldn't put it past him to send her something for the baby as a way of saying "I know" instead of having any of them writing about it.
Beatriz you have blessed my inbox yet again
Firstly - I adore how you connected with Myrtle. She’s a complicated, wounded woman who thought she did what was right. I don’t think she anticipated the reader’s poor reaction to it all, honestly…but there’s no shortage of eligible men if she can allow her heart to take another chance.
The knitting! Yes! Inspired by the weird little hat that Bucky was wearing at the start of episode 7, I was thinking it would be a lovely connection and per Red Cross rules very much allowed! You bet he takes very good care of his winter accessories.
But Captain Miller - a woman with very different priorities from the reader and very rigid morals. Interfering and scheming, she is always looking for the next promotion so it is utterly bewildering to her that the reader resented one and then proceeded to ruin her well-laid plans. Good riddance to her.
I honestly hemmed and hawed about including a Bucky POV here but it was demanded by my brain and therefore we got several into his rapidly fracturing psyche. Bless Buck and his patience for the delirious ramblings of head wound Bucky 😬
Beneath any teasing from the boys, there is surely a lot of jealousy - the reader’s letters come faster, and she seems to send more? And the knitting…But they’re also glad because it’s dulling the edges of Bucky’s caged-animal behaviour…or it was 🤦‍♀️
Baby Egan 🥹
Baby Egan to be born stateside and definitely not named after Bucky’s planes because they were - Just A Snappin’, Mugwump, and Mlle Zig Zig. Don’t seem to roll off the tongue 🤣🤣🤣
His reaction is going to be very interesting, wish me luck as I do my very best to bring this all to a close in just one more part 😬😬😬
History answer - as far as I can tell POWs we’re only entitled to send letters, but I will do more digging!!

10 Characters, 10 Fandoms, 10 Tags
Good morning!
Tagged by @ghostoffuturespast on my main blog and both @seeker-of-truth and @ouroboros-hideout on my sideblog-- for the sake of keeping everything jointed I'll post this on my main lol.
Buckle in folks this one's a doozy.
Connor Kenway/Ratonhnhaké:ton (Assassin's Creed III)
Tumblr media
Even as the years go by, Connor was the character I made a Tumblr account for and pretty much the only reason I bother still paying attention to Assassin's Creed as a franchise anymore. I was there, man. I was there when everyone in the fandom and their mothers hated this guy, but I will still defend him even with my goddamn life. Characters that go through intense tragedy after intense tragedy and still come out the other side gentle and optimistic are my lifeblood.
2. Johnny Silverhand (Cyberpunk 2077)
Tumblr media
(People who follow me for my sideblog make a Surprised Pikachu Face at this placement) My gross rat bastard man I love you I hate you I love you. An intensely tortured character with arguably more negative personality traits than positive ones, but who he is and even why he is is so engaging and tragic that you almost forget he's supposed to be getting on your nerves for most of the game's runtime. Damn you Keanu Reeves and your effortless dorky charisma.
3. Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2)
Tumblr media
Arthur baby you deserved the world. An insanely complex character with gray morals and a jaded worldview who could never do right no matter how hard he tried until the one moment where it mattered most. I loved John in RDR1 and didn't really expect to get so attached to Arthur, but R* truly did grab me by the shoulders and said "Bet, bitch". To this day, the fact that I never finished that 200k+ word OC fic disguised as an Arthur character study still haunts me.
4. Korra (Avatar: The Legend of Korra)
Tumblr media
As someone who'd watched the original Last Airbender series as it aired when I was a kid, I was super excited for a female Avatar when the series was announced back in...god, was I in high school? The point being-- when the show started really hitting it's stride with Korra's character in season 3 I was beyond hooked, and I loved season 4 probably a lot more than I think I should've, but MAN, was it a fun ride. Korra is a character and a show that both got severely panned and honestly I think once you get out of the mindset that you aren't watching Aang 2.0 you'll have a much funner time.
5. Steve Harrington (Stranger Things)
Tumblr media
Maybe not as much in later seasons when they really leaned off his popularity + Joe Keery's charisma, but lemme tell y'all season 2 Steve had me in a bonafide stranglehold for two years. "Character stepping up to a leadership role and then getting forcibly adopted by the people they're leading" is one of my favorite tropes and the reason that it worked so well in S2 is partly because the concern of Steve still kinda/sorta had the potential to swing back towards being the bully archetype he showed shades of in S1, so you got to see his relationship with the kids start off as kinda selfish but grow into a genuine protectiveness. GOD this was a top tier man y'all! We had it so good!
6. Rosa Diaz (Brooklyn 99)
Tumblr media
Maybe this is coming off the fact that my roommate and I literally just finished binge watching B99 for like the fifth time? But I forgot how much I actually really liked Rosa. One of the best sitcom deadpan snarkers of recent years and I personally liked that they affirmed that she didn't need to see herself settling down to be happy. I'm glad this role basically launched Stephanie Beatriz's career because she truly is the unsung hero of this show's comedy and heart and never really gets enough credit for it imho.
7. Melissa Schemmenti (Abbott Elementary)
Tumblr media
Every single time I watch Abbott Elementary. Every. Single. Time. Someone looks at me when Schemmenti appears on screen and goes "Wow, she acts a lot like you do!". And I have to sigh and nod and pretend I don't see it lol. Though unfortunately our differing football opinions means we would probably end up in a fistfight.
8. Takashi "Shiro" Shirogane (Voltron: Legendary Defender)
Tumblr media
I will never forgive the VLD showrunners for dropping a nuke on Shiro's character development. Seasons 1-2 Shiro was some of most fun I've ever had following a protagionist's journey to conquer his inner struggles and solely for that, I still have a massive soft spot for him. Dreamworks think about how you massacred my boy and feel bad for it.
9. Benjamin "Benji" Ovich (Beartown Series)
Tumblr media
This gif is from the HBO Nordic series (haven't watched it, desperately still want to, don't know if I even can at this point lol), but I'm specifically talking about Benji from the Beartown book trilogy. He evolves into the series deuteragonist alongside Maya and god, he is just such a tragic character who deserves all the world and more. Go read Beartown and scream at me for it.
10. Joey Tribbiani (Friends)
Tumblr media
"Characters I See a Lot of Myself In 2: Electric Boogaloo". Joey is the best friend in the entire cast there I said it. Honestly my ideal relationship is a funny overly-assured man who loves the New York Rangers, loves his friends intensely, and has dumb himbo energy. The loud Italian family is just an added bonus.
Uhhhhh who hasn't been tagged yet sorry guys I was late to the party on this one lmao.

Antena 3 presented this Tuesday, October 10, in the first edition of the South Festival, Beguinas, a series inspired by the beguinages, communities of women who, since the 13th century, defended an alternative way of life independent of marriage and Church. The new fiction bet will be available sooner for Atresplayer premium users.
Beguinas, which has ten 50-minute episodes, is produced by Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. The Beguines dedicated themselves to contemplation, but also to action, through crafts, teaching, or caring for the sick, which provided benefits to society while allowing them to be. This new series takes as reference the history of these women, which has remained hidden throughout the centuries.
The actors Amaia Aberasturi and Yon González star in the fiction. They play, respectively, Lucía de Avellaneda and Telmo Medina, two young people who will overcome the social impositions of the time and risk everything for love in a context that is not conducive to them. Beatriz Segura, Melani Olivares, Jaime Olías, Ella Kweku, Lucía Caraballo, Javier Beltrán, Meritxell Calvo, Silma López, Laura Galán, Elisabeth Gelabert, Ignacio Montes, Antonio Durán 'Morris', Jonás Berami, Jorge Kent and Cristina Plazas, among others , complete the cast of the series.
Beguinas is a production of Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Buendía Estudios. Montse García, Sonia Martínez and Amparo Miralles are the executive producers of this fiction, which will be directed by Rómulo Aguillaume and Claudia Pinto. The script will be written by Irene Rodríguez, Esther Morales and Silvia Arribas.
Marta de Miguel signs the Production direction, Iván Caso and Álex García the Photography direction and Jorge de Soto the Art direction. Bubi Escobar will be in charge of Wardrobe, while Makeup and Hairstyling will be directed respectively by Mariló Serrano and Fermín Galán. Juan León is the Casting Director.
Synopsis
Segovia, 1559. Lucía de Avellaneda celebrates her engagement party with the Marquis of Peñarrosa, a nobleman chosen by her brother. This marriage promises to reinforce the financial and social status of the family, but, in the middle of the celebration, the fiancée receives an unexpected letter from a woman who claims to be her mother and who claims her on her deathbed.
Lucía shows up at the beguinage, where her mother has summoned her. In this place she lives with other women independently and outside the Church. The young woman opens up to a new world that will make her question everything she has known until now. And, furthermore, he will know love through a pure and uncontrollable, but forbidden, passion. He will risk everything for Telmo, a Jewish man who must hide his beliefs and his past.
Main cast and characters
Lucía de Avellaneda (Amaia Aberasturi) Intelligent, curious and combative. Educated and innocent, until her mother's call disrupts her life. In the beguinage she discovers an environment of sorority and critical thinking that revolutionizes her idea of the world and breaks down the walls that her status as a Christian noble woman has imposed on her. When she meets Telmo she feels for the first time an attraction that she has never experienced, but his commitment and loyalty will stop her impulses, determined to fight for what really matters to her.
Telmo Medina (Yon González): Telmo is an attractive, lucid and mysterious young man who hides his Jewish origins. He works in a bakery and supplies the beguinage with what it needs from outside. He doesn't want problems, but he doesn't avoid them either. Loyal, sincere and honest, he cannot help but risk everything for a Christian noble woman.
Marie Anne (Beatriz Segura) Beguine and the successor of The Great Lady, she is wise, strong and enigmatic. Its mission is to protect the beguinage from certain ecclesiastical authorities who fear its independence. Guiding Lucía through the truth, she will help her connect with her mother's spirit and live in the beguinage with other women who, like her, long for a freedom that they cannot find outside. In her past, she loved intensely and had to overcome a traumatic breakup, but that passion is unleashed again, although this time she does not want to repress herself despite the danger of remaining in love with a clandestine and sinful love.
Sibila García (Melani Olivares): A distrustful, surviving and sensitive woman, who grew up in misery and prostitution. Pregnant, she decided to escape and found her place in the beguinage. Her biggest concern is her daughter and, even though she reproaches her for it, she will do everything possible to try to protect her. The succession of Lucrecia is disputed and she competes with Marie Anne for the position of Great Lady.
Guiomar Ruy (Ella Kweku): Nigua, an Antillean slave, was sold to a doctor from Seville who gave her her new name and educated her when he noticed the maid's innate curiosity. She learned the trade of midwife from her mother and cultivated her interest in the human body and botany. She obtained his letter of freedom and decided to move to the beguinage of Valladolid where he can develop his concerns and care for the sick. She has judgment, instinct and knowledge. She gets upset with ignorance, prejudice and evil. Shee feels a deep complicity with Gonzalo, the clergyman, a harmony that sooner or later, she will have to give a name to.
Beatriz García (Lucía Caraballo): Daughter of Sibila and one of the youngest of the beguinage. Innocent, happy and lively. Her sexuality is awakening and she enjoys her body with curiosity and without fear until life outside the walls pushes her to hide her most intimate impulses. Her freedom of thought and work contrasts with that of Lucía. She has a relationship with her mother that has ups and downs, but the love they have for each other is above all. Each has a lot to learn from the other.
Juana Aranda (Silma López): Daughter of Sancho, the owner of the workshop, and sister of Lebrín. She enjoys an independence that was uncommon at that time. She has chosen to enter the beguinage to avoid a bad marriage or ending up dependent on his brother. Intelligent, prudent and thorough. She is in love with Telmo, but wants to be reciprocated. He has such a noble heart that his love does not prevent him from empathizing with Lucía and helping Telmo when things go wrong.
Lebrín Aranda (Jonás Berami): Close friend of Telmo, son of Sancho, the owner of the bakery and the only brother of Juana, the beguine. Rogue, generous and lively, he knows how to live avoiding laws, rules and sins. He enjoys carnal pleasures and lets himself be carried away by Jimena's lust until he discovers her danger and her evil ways. He will use his best resources to try to save the Beguines from the Inquisition.
Rodrigo de Guzmán, Marquis of Peñarrosa (Javier Beltrán): He is Lucía's fiancé. Castilian nobleman, of ancient ancestry and fortune. He is very well connected and has negotiated with his future brother-in-law to settle his debts and open the doors to him in Court in exchange for this marriage. He loves Lucía, she seems to him the right woman to fulfill her role as marchioness. He is dutiful, splendid and traditional, but he does not hesitate to bring out his most sinister side when his commitment is threatened.
Munio de Avellaneda, Count of Vellaví (Jaime Olías): Lucía's brother and heir to the County, but also to the debts left by his father. He needs to recover privileges and fortune, and his sister's marriage is the perfect deal. Arrogant, irascible and proud. He is willing to do anything to save his lineage and keep up appearances.
Jimena Suárez de Córdoba (Meritxell Calvo): Munio's wife. Intelligent, frivolous and capricious. He hoped to live up to his condition, but the Avellanedas' fortune is in debt and the only thing that can solve it is his sister-in-law's wedding. She will do everything possible to help her husband achieve it. She likes to seduce, get the most out of life and cleverly circumvent the rigid rules that her lineage demands. She won't hesitate to play with fire when she meets Lebrín, a hummingbird who, like her, doesn't want to miss out on the pleasures that life offers.
Catalina (Laura Galán): Lucía's faithful maid. Affectionate, smiling, devout and superstitious, she is torn between loyalty to Lucía and fear of Munio. Lucía, her mistress, and the beguines, who will pay dearly for her ignorance. She will do everything possible to correct her mistakes and ease her conscience.
