I've mentioned on Zorro Discord that non-noble Spaniards preferred navaja knives.
Here is the finale of 'Bodas de sangre' (Bloody Wedding) by Carlos Saura, where flamenco dancers (one of them is the famous Antonio Gades) symbolically depict a fight with such knives.
And there was also el cuchillo and other types of long knives...
A flesh-eating knife
with sweet, murderous wing
keeps flying and shining
around my life.

A clip from Bodas de Sangre a.k.a. Blood Wedding (1981) directed by Carlos Saura
A group of dancers puts Lorca's 'Blood Wedding' on stage, the tragic play about a married man who is still in love with his ex-girlfriend, and tries to reunite with her despite her planned wedding.
