Decided that my 10yo's religious education is lacking, so we started on Good Omens today.

i gotta say one of my fave things about language is when you add random syllables to words or add nonsense words that rhyme
like for example, our girl cat is called minou but sometimes i'll call her "minoutschi". and then instead of saying "minou, du" i'll say "minoutschi dutschi". and when i'm feeling extra silly or loving i'll add a nonsense word, so i'll sweep her off the ground and pet her and say "minoutschi dutschi wutschi"
or sometimes she'll meow outside in the hallway, then wander in my room and start purring loudly while rolling around the ground (she does that when she gets clingy and really wants affection). and so i'll start petting her and she'll be purring and i'll say "du schnurrli wurli" (schnurrli/schnurli is a very common cat name based on the word "schnurren" which means "to pur". which is why it's my affectionate nickname for her when she's purring lol)

I understand people are not ~happy~ with certain hotd changes compared to f&b. That people feel like characters don’t have enough agency. Valid opinions to have ofc….but I honestly don’t get how that applies to Aemond, and the change made in ep 10. He still wanted Lucerys’ eye. He still got on Vhagar, who is at least 5 times bigger than Arrax. He chased him in a storm. Regardless of the outcome, he made that choice. He wanted luke to be scared. He wanted to assert dominance over someone who not only taunted him (with the help of Aegon and Jace) for not having a dragon, but someone who also took his eye (and depending on how you read the dinner scene in ep 8, someone who doesn’t seem that remorseful). His agency is there. He just didn’t account for the fact that he’s not the only person or thing with agency in this equation.
Aemond is vengeful, he is bitter; he is the second son who feels he he has to put people in their place to gain a semblance of power. And to paraphrase mysaria: you can only get as much power as people give you. He wielded the power that having Vhagar gives him against luke/arrax. Not fully realizing that he only has that power because Vhagar, like any other dragon, has to relinquish some of hers. And sometimes she’s not gonna want to do that… just like the characters on the show. It doesn’t soften him. It makes him fallible. He now has to grapple with accelerating the inevitable. He has to sit with knowing he caused the chaos to come. The idea of wanting/taking power is working in tandem with this undercurrent throughout of the show that the only thing that can hurt the House of the Dragon… are the Targs themselves. This includes the dragons they use to get said power. Aemond, like most of the Targs (and those adjacent), is his own worst enemy.

what i love about the twins (miya) is that when it comes to their partners, they do not understand the concept of me before you.
and what i mean by that is, a partnership with them embodies the true meaning of us and a family unit. you become one with them. your emotions are theirs and despite them being upset, if you need consolation, it will always be you before them.
it's easy to look at them as selfish, but naturally, because they've always shared everything, they look at their partners as a true extension of themselves. atsumu's grief has never been for him to own. he knows that if he loses, the loss does not affect just him, but osamu as well.
so when it comes to emotions, the twins have never regarded their feelings as their own. everything has consequences and the direct and indirect effects are far more apparent because they have each other.
your pain is theirs. your success is theirs. you are part of who they are. and that's why it will always be you. you over him and never him over you.
