Any time I see someone worshipping Ingrid Visser I remember the time her organisation, under her advice, kept an orca calf on a mattress in a horse trailer overnight because they wanted to “rehabilitate” him/put him in a makeshift sea pen to treat like a pool toy until he died.

I remember when videos showed up of newly named Toa vocalising (usually a sign of stress) and her cooing and making nonsense noises at him. And the comments were like “she’s talking to him!!!”
Ingrid also insisted of making Toa interact with people despite him being a very sick baby orca who was slowly dying.
This was later confirmed by people who were there:

I remember when untrained volunteers were crowding this stressed sick orca calf, bragging about swimming with him and bonding with him and ignoring advice to stop habituating him.

They had young kids in with him that didn’t know better and were told by Ingrid to interact with him like this. They were also laughing about how he “snored.” (Cetaceans don’t snore - anything that sounds like snoring is respiratory distress).

(Funny how waterwork is only okay when they do it with the stressed and dying orca calf but not in SeaWorld.)
The pathetic attempt to rehabilitate this dying calf by treating him like a pet, putting him in a tub of freshwater that quickly became toxic with ammonia. Signing off feeds with belly rubs and formulas changed behind the backs of the actual experts from Wellington Zoo and the experts consulted overseas who actually have successfully rehabbed calves.

How Whale Rescue (Ingrid’s organisation) lied again and again about Toa’s health and chances to be rehabilitated and released. How they misrepresented information about habituation when rehabbing whales and how Ingrid wanted to “train” Toa, despite plans to release him. How they demonised SeaWorld and claimed they weren’t involved despite records showing that SeaWorld and Loro Parque vets had provided their formula recipes and calf rearing protocols.

None of this is true - Ingrid has never rehabilitated any whale from a marine park. All the information she was getting was from DOC and the advisory group team

Basically: Ingrid’s “expertise” misled the New Zealand public, bullying out the actual experts so she could play orca trainer with her new pet.

ON OCTOBER 27TH, after roughly three weeks of campus turmoil surrounding student responses to Hamas’s October 7th attacks and the ensuing Israeli bombardment of Gaza, Harvard president Claudine Gay announced at a Shabbat dinner at Harvard Hillel that she was establishing an advisory group to guide her efforts to combat antisemitism on campus. In a November 9th email, she unveiled its members, a collection of Harvard administrators, alumni, professors, and affiliated rabbis. Her message to the campus community laid out some of the group’s initial plans, including “a robust program of education and training for students, faculty and staff on antisemitism broadly and at Harvard specifically.” The email also offered a clue as to the task force’s orientation: Gay noted that the training would address “the roots of certain rhetoric that has been heard on our campus in recent weeks.” It specifically condemned the phrase “from the river to the sea,” a pro-Palestine slogan that she said conveys “specific historical meanings that to a great many people imply the eradication of Jews from Israel and engender both pain and existential fears within our Jewish community.”
But while Gay’s letter suggests that the task force will explore what she casts as a worrisome relationship between antisemitism and activism for Palestinian rights, none of its members have conducted scholarly research into this supposed intersection. Most notably absent from the advisory group was Derek Penslar, the director of Harvard’s Center for Jewish Studies and a leading scholar of Zionism and its critics. His acclaimed recent book, Zionism: An Emotional State, includes a chapter entitled “Hating Zionism,” on the different motivations that have driven Zionism’s opponents since its creation. Given the relevance of his scholarship, Penslar would have seemed an obvious choice for the advisory group. But according to four faculty members familiar with Jewish studies at Harvard who requested anonymity to discuss internal university affairs, not only was he not selected, he wasn’t even consulted. One professor compared snubbing Penslar to “creating a task force on AI without consulting the chair of the department of computer science.”
Why wasn’t Penslar chosen? One likely factor is that he signed the Jerusalem Declaration on Antisemitism (JDA), which states that “criticizing or opposing Zionism” is not necessarily antisemitic. By contrast, most of the people appointed to the advisory group—none of whom have Penslar’s expertise—have made public statements alleging that anti-Zionism is antisemitic, or are affiliated with organizations that hold that view. Though Gay’s email claims that the advisory group is committed to “bringing our teaching and research mission” to bear in the fight against antisemitism, the group’s composition suggests that its members were selected less for their scholarly credentials than for their political beliefs, which align with those of influential donors, some of whom have already withdrawn funding or have threatened to do so.

I honestly think some of you (US residents) just don't understand how the United States government is designed to function.
Not whether or not it's good or bad at the functions of the government — how well it works, how good at their job responsibilities people are, or whatever. Not even if it's corrupt or broken or that kind of thing. Not it's morality or trustworthiness.
Just exactly the way it is structured: "what are the intended duties, how is it designed to work, what does "the government" understand as the purpose and role of the government on a day to day basis? How does a function happen?"
When I say the presidents job isn't supposed to be "being an expert on every subject under the law", but they ARE meant to consult advisors and experts when it comes to matters of how x or y thing impacts governance, I am being really fucking literal.
Like congrats if you know what the three branches of the US government are!
but if you're suggesting the president doesn't consult (or receive consultations/reports/explainers) from people on various subjects as a matter of their fucking job, then you just don't know how the United States government is designed to work.
The Cabinet of the United States is literally:
the advisory of the President of the United States
Part of the executive branch of government
Composed of the heads of the US Executive Departments (and other senior executive officials) who, in turn, may be experts in some subjects but also who have advisors and experts.
The whole job of the head secretary of an executive department is advising the president of shit. And the secretary heads the department which is usually made up of several government agencies and thousands of employees, some of whom are at least marginally qualified from the most cynical perspective, and many of whom are leading experts.
The executive branch doesn't ask the president to know everything. It is designed so that expertise travels upwards to the secretaries and the secretaries can present/rely on those massive repositories of "people who know things about this stuff" and reports from those people when advising the president.
(Independent agencies also present reports and information to the president.)
Whether or not the a) the appointed secretaries or advisors from independent agencies are any fucking good at their job, or b) the president ever listens to anyone or cares what experts/department reports say vs what they politically want to do is a completely different question.
But if a president cares to learn about something, or has a longstanding political interest in a particular topic, then like, you can absolutely guarantee some kind of advisory report built partly from multiple expert consultations and collected data was prepared and then given to the president.
