What I really want to do here is just intersplice the translation notes we have from @giniroangou to really hammer home all the little subtleties that got lost in the official translation. They bring a lot to light and really clarify more than I could add on my own. For instance:
I'm really just Feeling Things tonight about the conversation with Gale after Elminster's visit and like. Gale is So Insistent that if Mystra says he needs to blow himself up, then it must be the best option. The only option. And of course he is! Because what's the alternative? If there's another way, any other way, that means either
1. Mystra doesn't care enough to consider whether there might be another option. Gale blowing himself up is the easiest solution, so that's what she goes with. Or, even worse,
2. She does know there's other options, but tells him to sacrifice himself anyways, because it gets rid of two of her problems at once.
Gale doesn't just assume she's right because she's a goddess. He goes along with it because of what it implies about him, and her, and how she sees him if there is another way. He has to believe that this is the only option. Because the alternative? That he's disposable at best and actively unwanted at worst? That's just too much to bear.
Hi again everyone!! My wonderful friend Haya Orouq is still under halfway to reaching her goal of raising $35k to get her family, especially her mother who is sick with Lupus, out of Gaza and evacuated to Egypt. When I say ANYTHING helps I mean anything at all!! We are getting closer every day to getting her and her family to safety!! To the people who have donated and shared, I don't even know how to thank you enough!! You are literally saving my friend and her family's life. Sending love and good wishes to you all!! 💖🥰🫂💕🇵🇸
Life got more interesting when I learned that everything is an argument, everything is political, and everything is deeper than it seems. Everything is the product of something, and it's up to us to figure out what that "something" is. We are interesting as fuck! We are deeper than you think!
It might seem really tedious, but recognizing this has made me so much less incurious. I now want to learn about us as people. Everything is deeper than it seems.
IMAGINE. working at ur stupid uhhh job or whatever. pulling into your drive way and ready to work on some crazy project in your garage. opening the door to the most unfamiliar silence. did your wife and kid leave for something?
could you imagine knocking on your kids door, hardly getting an answer, and opening it to find the splattered remains of your wife across his room
your child is scared! hes hardly consolable, in a state of shock and terror. you are too, but youre the adult here. you need to take charge. you need to protect him. you need to do something. you need to do something.
everyone debates about elmike like oh they're the best of friends no they would never hang out on their own they don't even know each other, when the true answer, much like everything else about them, is that there is so so much and also nothing at all
My brain just shorted out realising that Kenjaku and Sukuna are in-laws. Sukuna and Yuuji/Jin familial relationship? Yeah, cool, whatever. Kenjaku being Sukuna's sister-in-law? For some reason broke me.
So, so fair.
It does add whole new layers to Sukuna's and Kenjaku's interactions post-Megumikuna. They were hilarious even before, but now, knowing that Sukuna knows Kenkaku fucked his reincarnated twin and custom-made him a vessel (with some ulterior motives probably), the whole thing gets 100 times more entertaining. I keep thinking of that part where Kenjaku asks (paraphrasing here) whether Sukuna's not going to shed Megumi's appearance and seeing it in a whole new light 🤣
What is your average word count? like with each work you do?
With each work?? Oh that varies quite considerably. The longest fic on my Ao3 I believe is like 92,000 words (though CRCB is going to surpass that one by the time it's done) and the shortest I think is like 600 words. I had one that broke 100k words at one point, but it's not on my Ao3 anymore.
It just kind of depends on the work. I've written multi-part fics that are under 10k words and one-shots that are over 10k words so...it just kind of depends.
