hi! 🌟 oh my goodness i spent quite a while on this because i am TERRIBLE at ranking things and i also had a lot to say... but here you go! disclaimer that i genuinely love red velvet’s discography to pieces and even the songs that are ranked lower on this list are among some of my favorites. i also decided not to include their japanese singles, solos, subunits, or sm station releases to make things a little easier for myself. you may notice that chill kill does not feature on the list & that’s because it hasn’t been out for long enough for me to ascertain my feelings towards it just yet! okay soooooo with all that out of the way . here are my thoughts 🦢

russian roulette - ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS OF ALL TIME. i got into red velvet immediately after hearing this back in 2016 & showed it to absolutely everyone i knew because i was so completely head-over-heels for it... i adore its playful synthiness and how bubbly and sweet their voices sound here, i LOVE its accompanying music video of course. when i think of kpop at its very best i think of russian roulette by red velvet!

automatic - i’m forever blown away by this song like it is literally perfect to me… smoldering, minimalist, effortlessly beautiful. i can’t believe they put this out so early in their careers, like genuinely what a feat. i love it so much

rookie - i feel like rookie is strangely underrated & i never understood why? it’s fun, it’s cute, it’s silly, it’s extremely loopable. really excellent instrumental imo and it shines even through their vocals… the strong bassline and brassy chorus in particular are highlights for me. also i think seulgi had a lot of fun this era in particular and it was so nice to see!

one of these nights - i absolutely love the creative direction of its music video & the song itself cemented rv as some of my favorite vocalists ever. easily one of their best title tracks, red or velvet. like it’s just perfect… melancholic and soulful and utterly magical

rbb (really bad boy) - i think this is one of their singles that best shows off their vocals… belting, shrieking, breathy whispering, chanting… the harmonization, the adlibs… so cunt, so interesting to listen to, so all over the place in the best way possible! no other group could have done it

umpah umpah - okay i personally feel that this is their best title track of the original festival trilogy in addition to their best summer single… never fails to lift my spirits, like it’s so joyful and unabashedly fun! i love that it sounds like it’s from a musical and i don’t mean that sarcastically at all

dumb dumb - literally one of the most unique kpop tracks like how many other songs can you think of that sound like this. still SO genuinely novel and exciting to listen to for its quirkiness and nonstop momentum that just builds and builds and builds

bad boy - very evocative of a particular moment in kpop but it aged like a fine wine! delicious to hear then & delicious to hear now… swaggering and silky and impeccably produced. i also think that the styling & sets for this music video were heavily imitated afterwards with songs of lesser quality from other groups. rv 🔛🔝

be natural - SO GOOD... sleek and sultry and understated. i also really love the way the music video is filmed and i think it belongs in the criterion collection. i’m ranking this a little lower than it deserves maybe by virtue of it being a cover rather than an original song and also because of taeyong’s rap

peek-a-boo - PEOPLE DIED. i feel like it’s almost impossible to listen to this without thinking of its music video—not at all a detriment because it’s a complete delight to watch. very catchy and clever and cool despite not being particularly upbeat. i feel like… again… it’s one of those songs where i can’t imagine a group other than red velvet putting out a comeback like this. it’s so them

feel my rhythm - love the structure of this song so much… brings together so many unexpected elements so elegantly. the noisiness caught me off guard a little bit when it came out but now i love the way they transition between the pots-and-pans quality of the verses and the orchestral ambience of the choruses. it really does feel like a frenetic, enchanting festival

power up - SO SILLYYYYY i’m a fan! i love songs with video game-inspired instrumentals & power up is one that’s fast and upbeat and summery and impossible not to dance along to. the japanese version in particular does something to my brain

birthday - i really did not like this when it first dropped but i enjoy it a LOT now… it feels like it’s building up to something it never really reaches but despite this i think it’s so catchy and bold & i love the sample the song is built around

ice cream cake - okay honestly very fun and i loved it back in the day but i don’t find myself listening to it a ton now... really enjoyed the collective blonde moment though & how ahead-of-the-curve they were with its noisy instrumentals!

queendom - i do think the lyrics can get a little corny and it’s not among their strongest title tracks, but it’s cute and easy listening vibes to me and there are some really wonderful vocal moments here and there!

psycho - good song but it was super overplayed a few years ago and it’s sonically not as interesting as their other singles. i know some people feel it’s their best but i don’t agree because i feel like i prefer songs with less muddied instrumentals. very quintessentially rv though, if that makes sense!

zimzalabim - was this a bad song… NO. do i like it that much… ALSO NO. the bridge is stunning though, one of their prettiest bridges ever, and i loved the satanism accusations that were flying around when it first dropped

red flavor - super popular, i know, and i do think it’s nice and nostalgic still, but i don’t feel it’s their best summer track and don’t actually listen to it all that much… oops. i love the twinkling sounds in the chorus but it has an empty and echoey quality to it at certain points that i find i’m not the biggest fan of

happiness - kind of a lackluster debut sorry... i do like the refrain and the pre-chorus though so the only time i ever seek out this song is when i wanna hear that bit... like yes joy! exactly joy!

5.THE BOYZ - The Stealer

Wow, these guys had about as good a year as any newer group could hope for. Winning ‘Road to Kingdom’, releasing easily their best title track, and having a bunch of cool end of year stages to top it off.

‘The Stealer’ is one of the most attention grabbing songs I’ve ever heard, straight into the chorus with this in your face attitude, it immediately stands out. The choreo is out of this world and actually stunning at certain parts. I really can’t express how good the intro to this song is. The sort of classy jazz theme contrasts with the intense energy the song gives off and creates something really cool and unique.

4. NCT U - From Home

Nothing better than a magical NCT ballad masterpiece. Songs like ‘Timeless’ and ‘Without You’ are some of my favorites of all time. The vocal layering and the constant switching of vocalists helps create this warm inviting sound that eventually kicks into high gear and becomes a multi-lingual magnum opus. The amount of quality singers in NCT is unprecedented, every group has multiple main vocals and you can combine them to create a 7 member all-vocal group and still have more singers to spare. It’s honestly insane.

I really love the way this incorporates Chinese and Japanese, its done flawlessly and makes the whole song feel so much more meaningful.

3. Weki Meki - Cool

Super heavy and quirky. All sorts of interesting background sounds to go with the Euro-style bass beat that eventually explodes into an intense chant chorus. There’s this very sultry club feel throughout. So many of the verses use very distinct melodies and rhythms so you get these dissonant raps that switch things up in a really jarring way but sound great.

In general, Weki Meki just has a very unified sound, their vocalists all compliment each other well. Two years in a row, Weki Meki has had a song in my top 10, very unexpected but chill.

2. IZONE - Merry-Go-Round

B-Side of the year. A fantastical, fun, catchy pop symphony. This is what we’ve come to expect from IZONE though, this is a standard that they’ve had since debut. Honestly wasn’t crazy about all their title tracks this year, they were all OK but sort of paled in comparison to ‘Violeta’ or ‘La Vie En Rose’. However Merry Go Round is so good it overshadows any disappointment with them.

Somehow combines a retro funky groove with a classical string melody, kind of a masterclass in style mixing. You’ve also got this balance between soothing slower singing and booming chorus lines, kind of a perfect song for what it sets out to do.

1. fromis_9 - Feel Good (SECRET CODE)

Absolutely incredible retro gold. Fromis_9 just doesn’t miss, their discography is already insane at this point, and that’s with a year long hiatus. The chorus is so catchy and the drums are so loud and powerful, it would be awesome to hear this at a big concert or dance party. The vocals here are super clear and layered, just really high quality production value.

Despite 2020 being weaker than usual in terms of overall quality in Kpop, this song would have been a possible #1 in any year. It’s gonna be hard to top this but they haven’t missed yet.

Hi. Hello. I know I am probably annoying all my followers with the amount of times I talk about this beautiful group known as SF9, but I’m back again, I just don’t know when to quit.

Some of you may have heard the name. Maybe it came up on Pandora when you were doing homework. Maybe a video popped up with their name but you never clicked on it.

I wanna give you the faces to the name.

SF9, short for Sensational Feeling 9 is a 9 member group who debut back in October of 2016 under FNC Entertainment.

Like most boy groups it seems like these days SF9 went through a survival show called D.O.B (Dance or Band), competing against fellow trainee group Band later known as Honeyst (Who you might have seen disbanded recently)

SF9 went onto win D.O.B as the dance group with their winning track K.O along with their unique choreography. To this day I’ve never seen anything quite like the choreography that they had in K.O

K.O was featured on their debut album along with their title track Fanfare which had a jamming vibe if I say so myself. The debut album debuted in eighth place and peaked at sixth place on the Gaon Album Chart.

They boys performed against Cube’s PENTAGON since both groups were debuting live the same day. To this day SF9 and PENTAGON remain close close friends, often being paired up with one another.

In December of that year, just a few months after debut the boys release the single “So Beautiful” as a gift for their fans, later known as FANTASY as a way to say Thank them for all their love and support. The song was originally an OST of their interactive web-drama Click Your Heart that the members stared in.

2017 was their busiest year some would argue. In February their first mini album, Burning Sensation with the title track Roar was released, hitting as high up as #6 on Billboard World Albums Chart.

Just 2 months after Roar promotions, FNC confirmed the group would make their second comeback in April with their second EP Breaking Sensation. The title track Easy Love is often regarded as one of the best title track song of SF9, as well as title tracks that occurred in 2017. It ranked at #2 on the world album charts.

In June of that year they had their Japanese debut and performed at both KCON New York and KCON L.A that summer.

In October they had released their 3rd mini album Knights of The Sun and their ever catchy title track O Sole Mio. This was the era I came in. Yes I am not a debut era stan, but it doesn’t make me any less of a FANTASY. I was amazed by their unique style and charisma that I got hooked right away.

In February of 2018 SF9's fourth EP, Mamma Mia! was released. Their Japanese single, under the same name was released in May, and they held a Japanese tour titled "SF9 Zepp Tour 2018 MAMMA MIA!" that month.

On July 31, they came back with their fifth EP, Sensuous, with the lead single "Now or Never". 2-18 also saw their first domestic convert and a south american fan meet tour.

After that, the boys managed to finally get a well deserved break and came back in February of this year 2019 with their sixth mini album, Narcissus and the title track Enough, but promotions did not last long because after a month, on March 20, 2019 they released their 2nd Japanese album with the title "ILLUMINATE" In order to promote their album, a tour was held in japan and the boys continued to work hard, performing concerts and even KCON Japan.

Their most recent comeback was on the 17th of this month (June). It was their 7th mini album and its title track, RPM continues SF9 concept and style, while giving it a bit of a flare.

The main reason I spent hours writing this post, giving you their history, is because I’m sure a lot of you have heard of SF9, but never quite watched them. Maybe they came on Pandora, or Youtube Auto Play, but you’ve never taken your time to actually watch them.

Their current comeback, RPM is quite possibly one of their best comebacks. The album is by far a fan favorite, and represents SF9′s style, while also giving a bit of a twist to it. Each comeback they get stronger and stronger and firmer in their style and I love it.

But for a group like this, a group of 9 beautiful, sweet, passionate, hardworking souls, they are day after day underappreciated.

The went on their first world tour this year but already had some shows cancelled because not enough people were going and so the cost to had the concert was too high.

As of now, their title track RPM, released on the 17th, just barley has a million views. And I know, we should consider ourselves lucky because a lot of groups never even hit 1 million views, including maybe your favorites. But if that is the case then you know how we FANTASY feel. You understand. We just want more for them. We want to give them the world. We will never stop wanting to give them more.

A group like SF9 deserves to be loved.

Which is why I ask you, if you have a spare 4 minutes in your life, maybe sit down and watch them. Actually watch them. You may up deciding they aren’t your cup of tea, and that’s okay, at least you tried. That’s all I can ask.

Nicole ~ Leader

안녕하세요 everyone! I'm Nicole, the leader of the BTSPS. I'm fourteen and I currently live in America. My amino profile name is “니콜 (TaeIsBby)”. As you know, I'm the leader but I also run the twitter account (and monitor the other social media accounts) . My bias in BTS is Taehyung but they all have a special place in my heart! Even though Taehyung is my bias, I can relate to either Yoongi or Jin most of the time.

In October of 2016, I found out about BTS because of a friend. She showed me Blood Sweat & Tears and I instantly fell in love with them. Ever since then I've been obsessed. I also love kdramas even though I don't have much time to watch them due to school.

I'm learning how to speak Spanish and Korean. I would much rather just learn one language but since a foreign language is required at my school and they don't offer Korean, I chose Spanish. I'm in love with Korean culture. I think Korea is a beautiful place and I even plan to travel there one day. When I'm in college, hopefully I'll get the opportunity to study abroad.

In my free time I like to sing and dance. I believe that I'm alright at singing but I do dancing just for fun. I cannot dance good at all. I took dance lessons for 4 years, it's sad that I still can't dance. But I enjoy it! Singing on the other hand is something I'm considered ”good” at. I need practice and to take lessons. In the future once I am better, I want to audition somewhere. Preferably in Korea? But anywhere is fine for me. As long as I live my dreams that I've had since I was young, right?

I like to listen to many other groups and celebrities. For example: GOT7, NCT U, NCT 127, NCT DREAM, BLACKPINK, Shinee, Jay Park, Mino, and so many more! The two main groups I like, other than BTS, are GOT7 and BLACKPINK. Jackson is my bias in GOT7 and Lisa is my bias in BLACKPINK. I actually love those two groups. They are my lifeu. But BTS will always have my hearteu!

In our team I’m in charge of being wild & sexy (who gets the quote will receive a cookie), translating to Italian and Polish, taking care of the Tumblr page and trying to find a way to make our posts look more clearly.

I am an artist, sort of, I love foreign languages and cultures. I've quite a knowledge about geeky stuff and I love to talk about it. I always say what I think, I hate when people cheat or are jealous. I'm open minded and I like to listen to other opinions, arguing is probably one of the things that I hate the most. I’m in love with Asian culture in general, I want to learn more about it and be able to visit some of its countries one day (but Korea is my main goal). I also love languages, I’m currently studying to be an English Translator in college and I’m learning Korean and Portuguese by my own.

Hi my name is Lina and I live in the US but I am Korean. I am fluent in Korean and English so I will be the Korean translator.

I am a k-drama addict like there is no k-drama I haven’t watched(it’s seriously a problem).

I do taekwondo and am a 4th degree black belt. I also like to play other sports as well (tennis,yoga,gravity yoga,pilates...etc.) and I love to play video games. I also at a young age learned various musical instruments (violin,piano,flute,and a traditional korean instrument). I also like to cook and bake whenever I have time.

I've been an Army since their debut but really started to hardcore stan BTS during their “Most Beautiful Moment” album era. BTS is the only male group I stan but I like to listen to other K-pop groups/singers/rappers as well like Big Bang, Mamamoo, Blackpink, Dean, BewhY and so many more. My name is Nisrin and I’m a translator, and my Amino name is “ChimChimGirl”. I’ve been a translator before in my other fandom (for the American band called Linkin Park, which is my other favorite band, and if you like their music let’s be friends), and I loved working with other people who are as passionate as I am about the group.

I speak 6 languages fluently; arabic, amazigh (for those who don’t know, it’s an official north African language), English, Spanish, Catalan, and French. I’m originally from Morocco but I’ve grown up in Catalonia (Spain), and now I’m living in France, where I study International Business in college and work as a Catalan teacher at elementary schools.

My bias is Jimin but I relate to Suga on a deeper level, even though at the end of the day I end up praising and loving all of them equally, because their story, their hard work, their passion and their talent is amazing, and that’s why I fell in love with them.

I’ve been into Kpop since October 2016 with the release of Blood, Sweat and Tears, and an ARMY since then as well. I occasionally listen to Big Bang, Blackpink and Got7 (and I love Jackson!).

Hello everyone!

I’m Erika and I am 18 years old, (soon to be 19 on the 18th of February! *feeling blessed*) from Sweden, so I will be the Swedish translator lol.

My amino is Erika K and I found out about BTS last year in April when my friend from Canada was shook and sent me the music video for “DOPE” and just said: “Choreo. THE CHOREO DAMN.” At that point I had to check it out and boy, I was impressed by them. After that I stumbled across “Young Forever” and I just started crying while I read the lyrics, they were so good! And it became even more special when I found out the members themselves had written the lyrics and Rap Monster producing it. (Still is my favorite song today). And I just knew, from that day forward, there was no return lol.

My bias is Namjoon, simply because he’s just the most wonderful human I have ever gotten the chance to know. He’s everything from intelligent, to sweet, humble, to savage, to clumsy (can 100% relate lol). He’s everything. Although I must say I love all of them and I would probably sob like a 4-yearold if I ever got the chance to see any of them in real life.

Despite for my love of BTS, I am also a huge language loving nerd. I study at the moment Swedish, English, Italian, Chinese and Latin. My goal in life is to be near the level of fluency in at least 3 or 4 languages.

Aside from that I adore K-dramas even though I’m a newbie, there is just something so magical about them. I have to restrain myself to focus on my school work sometimes, the life of a fangirl *sigh.* But I absolutely adore Lee Jong Suk, Ji Sung and Seo In Guk. Apart from BTS I’m also a huge multifandom, and my top 5 faves (except BTS), GOT7, Monsta X, KNK, SHINee & Pentagon. But BTS will forever be my ultimate bias group. <3
