While the definitions can fall under their respective "parent" term (Adaptive, Created, Spontaneous, Unknown, Mixed Origins), we personally prefer using more specific terminology (so -dawn terms in general), and figured others might too!
As far as we are aware, none of these have been coined. However if they have, please let us know so we can credit the original coiner, and you can consider these alt flags (and potentially alt definitions if the definitions widely vary for some reason).

Destination Quilt Along - Block 3 Fair
Hi! Welcome to Block 3 of Destination: Quilt Along!
You’ll find the details of the quilt along on the Destination QAL page. Here’s the short version: we’re presenting the blocks for this quilt along in segments. To win a prize, make all the blocks from that segment, then upload a photo of them at the end of that segment.
This is Block 3 in the quilt along and the third block in Segment 1. There will be four blocks in this segment, released every week on Tuesday. To enter for the Segment 1 prize, you must finish all four Segment 1 blocks and post a photo of them at the end of Segment 1. The prize winner for Segment 1 will be announced on August 10th. Click here to view the QAL schedule and to learn more about it.
To enter for the Grand Prize you’ll need to make all 12 blocks in the quilt along. You don’t need to make a quilt using the blocks although we’d love for you to! At the end of the quilt along, we will provide several setting suggestions if you’d like to make a quilt.
Block 3: Fair
This week’s block is a visit to a small fair! What’s the best part of any fair? Why the food of course! The fair is the time to indulge and to try new things, like a new flavor of ice-cream! The designer of Block 3 is Abbie @ Sparkle On! and you can download the pattern there.
I’m here to show you my version of this week’s block and to provide tips for making it.
My Fabric Pull
I’m using Island Batiks for this quilt along because they are so much fun!
For my fabric pull, I started with several photos of vintage ice cream trucks because I love how they look. The photo of a Mr. Softee truck really takes me back.
I pulled my ice cream truck fabrics using these images as my inspiration. I wanted to add a striped awning above and a short ledge below the window so I chose fabrics for them.
For the background, I thought of the small church fairs we have around here and pictured the ice cream truck parked under the festive banners and colorful lights, with the kiddie rides and carnival games in the distance.
I imagined my favorite ice cream perched on top of the truck and selected a soft pink and a dark brown (for peppermint ice cream with chocolate sauce.)
Here’s my fabric pull.
Here are the fabric details of the Island Batiks I used:
Background
#121716860 (Morning Sunshine collection)
Ice Cream Truck
#121809612 (Check it Out collection) Sprinkles (Neutrals collection) Turquoise blue dots #821707310 (Elementz collection) Buttermilk (Neutrals collection) #122005012 Large Wheat Leaves Glaze (Autumn Sunset collection) Carnation (Basics collection) #111923082 Mosaic Lines Coffee (Clockworks) Flower burst green blue purple Pink flowers on purple blue green Blue-green hexies #821707615 (Elementz collection) #121613330 (Sweet Nectar collection) BE38-D1 Small Pointed Flowers (Blenders collection)
My Tips and Tutorials for Making This Block
Here are my tips for making the Camper block.
Make this block yours
My first tip is to make this block yours!
For example, use your favorite fabrics or favorite colors for the ice cream truck or use an ice cream truck from your childhood as your color inspiration
Choose fun colors or prints for the pennants
Have fun with the background as well. Remember that this is a fair, so think of lights, carnival rides, a village green, a church courtyard, or wherever you attend a small local fair.
Cut a Large Background
Because the process of finishing your applique may skew the Background a bit, it’s best to start with a 13” Background square and then trim it to 12-1/2” after you finish the applique edges.
creating the pennant banner - Cutting the pennants
I decided to use more than three colors for my pennants because I love using lots of scraps to create color.
To do that, cut (2) 2” squares for each pennant. Fold one square in half.
Lay the two squares wrong sides together then trim from fold to corner on each side to cut the pennant shape.
Put the two flag shapes wrong sides together as instructed in the pattern, and sew 1/4” along both sides of the pennant. You are not turning the pennants inside out after sewing so remember to place the two wrong sides together.
I made the hanging part for the pennants just as I do my binding. First, fold the strip in half and press then fold in half again and press.
Slip the pennants into the open part of the binding at the measurements given in the pattern, then sew along the edge to close the binding and hold the pennants in place.
After making the two pennant strings, pin them in place on the Background as instructed by the pattern. Abbie gives you measurements for placement that work out great so follow that.
Pin then sew along the bottom edge of each pennant string to hold it in place. You’ll trim the ends of the pennants later after you trim the block to size.
creating a striped Ice Cream Truck
Like last week and inspired by the vintage photos I found, I decided to make my ice cream truck two colors. To do that, I sewed two fabrics together.
The finished strip set needed to be larger than the truck template which is 4” x 7”. So I chose two strip widths that would make the finished strip set 4-1/2” x 7-1/4”.
Like before, I traced the fusible for the ice cream truck and fused it to the back of my strip set.
ADD the Ice Cream Truck APPLIQUE - Trace and fuse shapes
Now it’s time to fuse the camper applique.
To add the truck to the Background, start by printing out the templates on pages 5. Use the 1” square to ensure that the templates are the correct size. Print at 100% and DO NOT scale the pattern to fit.
Trace the templates onto fusible web and cut them out loosely (1/8” outside the outline). For large pieces you can remove the center of the fusible leaving at least 1/4” inside the line. Removing the center of the fusible makes your appliques more supple.
I decided to fuse windows to the truck rather than cut them out. For the windows, I chose a light color to represent the inside of the truck, lit up. My windows are a bit faint thought so if I had to do it over again though I might have chosen a brighter yellow or a darker grey.
To create the chocolate sauce template, I traced the ice cream template and improvised a drippy bottom edge.
To create the awning and shelf templates, I sketched them onto the truck template, then traced them onto fusible.
Fuse the web onto the back of each fabric and cut the shapes out on the line.
ADD the ICE CREAM TRUCK APPLIQUE - Assemble the camper
I like to assemble my applique shapes on a pressing mat then position them on the Background for final fusing.
Note: If you don’t have a pressing mat you can use parchment paper. The idea is to use something non-stick for the applique shapes don’t fuse to it.
I fused the chocolate sauce onto the ice cream then fused the ice cream under the cone.
Next, since I’d decided to fuse the windows rather than cut them out of the truck I fused them next.
If you decide to cut out the windows as instructed in the pattern, trace them onto the truck using a light table or a window, or trace the window shapes onto paper and trace around them onto the truck fabric using a marker and cut out the windows on the line.
I then fused the awning and shelf above and below the main window. This was something I added as well.
Finally I fused the ice cream cone on top of the truck.
Fuse the completed Camper to the Background. Because it’s in one piece, it’s easy to fuse it in place exactly where you want it to be.
ADD the ICE CREAM TRUCK APPLIQUE - Finish the edges
Edge-stitch the applique shapes to finish their edges. I normally use a straight stitch and matching thread although you can use a small zig-zag, blanket stitch, or satin stitch to finish the edges.
I use an open-toe foot so I can see where I’m stitching.
I slow down my machine so I have more control.
For stitching curved shapes like that curvy ice-cream, having a knee-lift that lifts the presser foot without moving your hands really helps you get the job done fast!
If you’ve never machine appliqued before, click here for a step by step photo tutorial.
Trim Your Block
After you finish the applique on your block trim to it’s final size—12-1/2”.

American Flag Cornhole
Tumblr media
The Fourth of July is one of the most beloved and nostalgic American holidays, conjuring memories of backyard hangouts, beautiful firework displays and unforgettable moments with family and friends. Want to take your patriotic party to the next level? Try your hand at wood staining using our American flag cornhole DIY plans for a USA-themed version of a classic American game.
See below for step-by-step instructions on how to stain stars and stripes onto your cornhole set.
Materials/supplies needed:
Pre-made cornhole set, undecorated (get our DIY plans here)
Vinyl star template (like this one)
Utility knife
Straightedge
1 roll of tape (we recommend FrogTape)
1 can of YellaWood Protector® Rich Walnut stain
1 can of YellaWood Protector® Crystal Clear sealer (find a distributor near you)
To assemble:
Step 1: Measure out the tape that will divide the stripes: 24” divided by 13 stripes = 1.85” stripes (tip: FrogTape is 1.88” thick and is nearly a perfect fit for this portion of the project).
Tumblr media
Step 2: Measure out the stripes beginning at the center of the board (the center 1.88” stripe should have no tape).
Step 3: Alternate taped stripes with bare stripes from the center strip—use 1.88” thick stripes, leaving the two on each end of the board slightly smaller than the rest.
Tumblr media
Step 4: Cut out the union portion of the flag using a straightedge and utility knife, pulling away the cut pieces of tape (the union cut-out should measure 18”x13”).
Tumblr media
Step 5: Place the 17”x12” vinyl star template within the 18”x13” union space.
Tumblr media
Step 6: Press the vinyl down, ensuring it’s flush against the wood so the stain will not smudge underneath.
Step 7: Using YellaWood Protector® Rich Walnut, carefully stain around the vinyl and tape.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Step 8: Allow the stain to dry.
Tumblr media
Step 9: Remove the vinyl and tape, and cover the board with the Crystal Clear sealer for extra protection and longevity.
Tumblr media
Step 10: Debut your masterpiece at the next Fourth of July backyard celebration!
Now that you have the plans, it’s time to celebrate the USA’s birthday with your new American flag cornhole set alongside family and friends. Let the festivities begin!

Happy Trails Paulie Malignaggi
Paulie Malignaggi announced his retirement last month after his loss to Sam Eggington in London. Malignaggi has a great career and very few fighters have been more creative with their fight night looks than the Magic Man -- lets take a look back.
Paulie started his career in July 2001 with a win over Thaddeus Parker in Brooklyn and followed that up three weeks later with a stoppage win against Robert Sowers in New York City:
Tumblr media
He had an Italian-flag themed trunks with PAULIE in red across the white waistband, black and gold gloves. Fascinating bowl cut on Paulie, by the way.
By the time he fought Sterling Gethers in Miami, Oklahoma in April 2002, he had a more typical magic-man haircut, along with black trunks with PAULIE in Italian-flag colors.
Tumblr media
He added green gloves and black and white shoes with white tassels.
In Paulie’s 9th fight, he took on Jadschi Green in Chester, West Virginia in the summer of 2002:
Tumblr media
Paulie continued with an Italian-flag theme, but again incorporated it in a different iteration - here with horizontal stripes and a white waistband. Paulie’s footwear appears to be the same, and this time with red gloves (couldn’t tell the make). Also worth noting that Paulie had HAVOC along the back waistband in all of these early fights.
Paulie broke out shin length gladiator trunks versus Chad Lawshe in New York in October 2002:
Tumblr media
Paulie, sporting a black and red ensemble, versus Shad Howard in Uncasville Connecticut in June of 2003:
Tumblr media
Two months later, Paulie recorded one of his 8 career stoppages against Kevin Watts in New Hampshire:
Tumblr media
Paulie styled a new iteration of Italian-flag-themed trunks, this one with additional touches of fringe and a New York Yankees logo on the left front thigh. He wore white footwear and red Everlast gloves.
Against 16-1 Jeremy Yelton in New York, Paulie (now a 19-0 prospect) sported a black and gold look, along with black Winning brand boxing gloves (one of the few times he did not wear Everlast).
Tumblr media
Look at those frosted tips. Yelton, meanwhile, never recovered from the loss, going 1-14 through the remainder of his career.
Malignaggi returned to more typical colors and brands in his next fight, showing off Italian-themed gladiator trunks with red Everlast gloves in a near shut-out decision win over Donald Camarena in Mashuntucket Connecticut:
Tumblr media
A pivotal moment in Paulie’s career came next, in June 2006 in Madison Square Garden. Undefeated at 21-0, Malignaggi took on 26-0 Miguel Cotto for the WBO super lightweight title. Paulie wore white and blue gladiator trunks with yellow stars, PAULIE across the front and EVERLAST across the back.
Tumblr media
Paulie’s gloves were blue and red Everlasts:
Tumblr media
The decision loss was really a win for Paulie: he proved that he belonged at the championship level, and proved his toughness by getting off of the canvas in the 2nd round and fighting through a broken jaw (as can be seen in the photo immediately above).
After taking the rest of 2006 off, Paulie returned in February 2007 against Edner Cherry in New York. There was a distinct “blue” theme, including Paulie’s hair:
Tumblr media
Malignaggi wore the same Everlast gloves as the Cotto fight, along with royal blue and white gladiator trunks and blue & white footwear with white tassels. Nice touch with the Italia socks as well.
Tumblr media
In June of 2007, Malignaggi decisioned Lovemore Ndou in Uncasville Connecticut to win his first world championship. Paulie’s hair was dyed gold to match his black-sequin and gold trunks.
Tumblr media
Paulie successfully defended his title against Herman Ngoudjo in Atlantic City in January 2008:
Tumblr media
He kept a black-sequin look but shelved the gladiator trunks. Notably, he worked “Magic Man” in script across the front of the trunks as well as a “LRG Team Malignaggi” patch on the left front thigh.
Lovemore Ndou was granted a rematch in London which saw Paulie’s first real wardrobe malfunction.
Tumblr media
Paulie’s ill-advised braids came unclasped and kept getting in his face:
Tumblr media
After athletic tape failed to secure them, his corner wound up cutting off his hair mid-way through the fight - perhaps the only time a fighter has received a haircut mid-bout:
Tumblr media
Lou Dibella remarkd: “I love Paulie, but sometimes he’s an idiot.” Malignaggi escaped with a split decision, which set up a showdown with Ricky Hatton in November 2008, in Las Vegas.
Tumblr media
Paulie clearly learned his lesson on the hairlength, instead going with some sort of maze shaved into his short hair. He wore a dark blue and white gladiator trunk set with RIP RONNEY (in honor of Ronney Vargas) across the front and a ring magazine patch on the front right thigh. His shoes were white adidas with black tassels. His lighter blue Everlast gloves really didn’t match the rest of his look. He lost by a stoppage (which he objected to, as seen below).
Tumblr media
Paulie rebounded in April 2009 in Mashantucket Connecticut against Christopher Fernandez. He sported an Everlast black and white gladiator look, black Everlast gloves and black and white footwear with white tassels.
Tumblr media
Four months later he lost a controversial decision to Juan Diaz in Houston Texas. Paulie went crazy in his two fights against DIaz... for #1, the somber “RIP ARTURO” across the white waistband was a stark contrast to the off-duty Vegas showgirls party going on beneath that:
Tumblr media
Metallic purple HAVOC trunks, high purple socks and remarkably long black and white fringe. I mean look at this fringe:
Tumblr media
The rematch in Chicago saw Malignaggi in a red/white/neon-green ensemble:
Tumblr media
Red asics shoes, high neon-green socks, white Everlast trunks with neon green fringe on the bottom and along the waistband, red waistand with PAULIE in a white frame, matching red Everlast gloves. Quite a look.
After avenging his loss, Malignaggi took on Amir Khan at Madison Square Garden.
Tumblr media
Leopard print trunks (and the first reference to Future Legend, Paulie’s clothing line) long black fringe and PAULIE in large gold letters along the waistband - decent look actually. Some nice gold Everlast gloves as well:
Tumblr media
After losing to Khan by 11th round stoppage, Paulie took 7 months off before moving to welterweight and getting back into the win column against Michael Lozada in Quebec City, Canada. Along with a silly little pony-tail, Malignaggi showed off white trunks with fringe and green and red horizontal stripes across the front. He had PAULIE across the red waistband and MAGIC MAN across the back of his trunks.
youtube
In April 2011, Paulie beat Jose Miguel Cotto in Las Vegas in a black and gold gladiator set:
Tumblr media
He completed the look with black and gold asics and red Everlast gloves.
Tumblr media
Six months later he decisioned Orlando Lora in Los Angeles in trunks just slightly different than those he wore against Lozada the previous year:
Tumblr media
Paulie was brought to the Ukraine in April 2012, in what was supposed to be the coming out party for Vyacheslav Senchenko. Instead Paulie upset Senchenko to win a world title at welterweight.
Tumblr media
Really liked this set - ordinarily not a huge fan of the high socks, but as they’re black they don’t distract from, and perhaps even complement, the rest of the look: Clean red and black gladiator trunks with white trim - a couple of adds but not over the top - and matching red Everlast gloves.
Now the welterweight champion, Paulie took on Pablo Caesar Cano in Brooklyn in October 2012. Paulie goes crazy with the fringe here:
Tumblr media
Trunks are too long, too much fringe, tassels on the shoes. just too much going on. The bergamasco shepherd is the official dog of this look.
Tumblr media
Paulie followed up this split decision win with a split decision loss against Adrien Broner.

A white and black Flintsones look for Paulie here, right down to the PAULIE font. Malignaggi added a tribute to the recently passed Hector Macho Camacho across the front, and for extra bonus died his mohawk bright red. It sort of matches his red Everlast gloves so i give the hair dye a bonus point.
Malignaggi bounced back against Zab Judah in an uneventful UD in December of 2013:
Tumblr media
Notable is that this is the only time that Paulie used his last name on the front waistband of his trunks. A little too much thigh for my tastes, but otherwise an ok set.
Paulie had a rough night against Shawn Porter in Washington DC, losing by 4th round stoppage. Paulie had an interesting black, gold and green fringe look that was a bit busy:
Tumblr media
This fight marks the second time in a row that “PAULIE” is absent from his waistband.
In August 2015, Malignaggi returned to Brooklyn to fight Danny Garcia.
Tumblr media
Paulie repeated the Corona sponsorship on the waistband, and otherwise went with a black-purple-neon green look. One very nice touch is the different gloss on the leather side panels. Magic Man was on the right front thigh and the logo for Future Legend was prominently displayed on both the front and back left thigh:
Tumblr media
This is also the ninth fight in a row that Paulie fought with standard red Everlast gloves.
Coming off of two consecutive losses, Paulie returned to action two months later in Milan, Italy against Laszlo Fazekas.
Tumblr media
Malignaggi beat Fazekas easily, and had a fairly muted look. He kept the same basic template as the Garcia fight, replacing the Future Legend logo with an Italian flag themed HAVOC logo, and he tossed in an Italian flag on the upper right thigh as well. Red Leone brand boxing gloves and red footwear round out the look.
After repeating this look in a win against Antonio Moscatiello in London, Paulie returned to the Brooklyn in July 2016 against Gabriel Bracero.
Tumblr media
This is the template from his previous two fights, with the Italian flag moved down to the bottom right thigh, and several layers of added fringe. He also replaced red footwear with white, and LEONE gloves with his typical Everlasts.
Having won three fights in a row, Malignaggi fought his final fight in London against Sam Eggington in March 2017.
Tumblr media
Albeit a loss, Paulie went out in style. An atypical gladiator cut in an Italian flag theme, white shoes with red and green trim and red gloves is a pretty nice look. Worth noting that Malignaggi wore Cleto Reyes gloves in his final fight - as far as I could tell the only time he’d done so in his professional career. The green portion of his trunks included his Future Legend lettering, and notably his white waistband read “PAOLO”.
Respect box.

Copa América 2021 jerseys, ranked and reviewed
Tumblr media
Photo credit should read LUIS ACOSTA/AFP via Getty Images
We take a look at the best and worst kits of those competing in the continental tournament of South America
Theoretically, the nations of South America’s footballing governing body — CONMEBOL —gather together every four years to compete for the title of best national team on the continent. In reality, it happens significantly more often, with this summer’s being the fourth tournament since 2015.
The Covid-19 pandemic threw the tournament another wrinkle. Like the Euros, this tournament was scheduled to be played in 2020 and was forced to move due to the pandemic. However, there have been much bigger roadblocks ahead than their European counterparts.
The tournament was scheduled to be the first-ever to be hosted by multiple nations, with the bid going to Argentina and Colombia. However, the pandemic has brought on a poor climate in both those nations to the point where hosting a continental football tournament seemed irresponsible. In Argentina, the country has been averaging above 30,000 cases of Covid-19 cases per day over the last few weeks. In Colombia, spiking numbers in the range of the mid-20,000’s have been coupled with ongoing unrest stemming from protests against the country’s president Iván Duque Márquez.
So last week, only 14 days before the tournament was set to start, CONMEBOL chose to move the tournament out of Argentina and Colombia. Instead, the Copa America will be hosted by Brazil, whose Covid-19 rates are averaging about 90,000 per day.
This tournament is one of the biggest, brightest, and best in the world when it comes to showcasing talent. On the pitch, the talent is displayed by players both established and up-and-coming alike. They’ll be doing all of this wearing the jerseys and badges of their respective home nations.
As we have done here twice before, once for the start of the European football calendar and once for MLS, we will be analyzing and ranking the kits of the nations playing in the Copa America. The jerseys will be ranked based on their style, traditions, overall color scheme, and uniqueness.
We’ll start at the bottom:
10. Bolivia
I don’t necessarily hate these kits, I just think Bolivia has had better offerings in the past. They seem to be the most boring shirts at this tournament. The subtle designs Marathon put on the front of the shirt are underwhelming and fail to stand out, especially compared to past kits worn by La Verde.
For a country that is as culturally bright and diverse as Bolivia, they should be wearing jerseys that accurately reflect that. This doesn’t do it for me.
9. Venezuela
One of two nations to never have won a Copa America, Venezuela will be showing up to this edition of the tournament wearing the same jerseys they’ve had since 2019. After being sponsored by adidas for a long time, Venezuela switched kit manufacturers and went with Italian brand Givova. It’s unclear why La Vinotinto chose to not create a new kit for their team on the continent’s biggest stage. Despite the fact that both of these kits look rather nice, the lack of something new sinks Venezuela to No. 9.
8. Uruguay
Yes, the only pictures of these kits that exist come from Luis Suarez and his Twitter account
This is not points off for the home kit. I’m a fan of the monochrome badge and overall, it seems like a well put together jersey for La Celeste.
It drops to No. 8 because of the away kit. This new Puma template of having the name of the country written out underneath a large Puma logo on a plain white jersey is weird and in some ways unsettling. These were all over the place in our Euros kit preview and I took points off there for this design. We continue that tradition here.
7. Colombia
The bold away kit design from adidas sees them re-use a template which kinda reminds me of a Rorschach test. I love the Colombian flag at the bottom of the sleeves and the three stripes in yellow.
But the home kit looks...boring? It has the same flag motif on the sleeves, but it almost blends in thanks to the yellow on the Colombian flag being at the top. The home kits Los Cafeteros wore from the 2014 World Cup, the 2016 Copa America, the 2018 World Cup, and the 2019 Copa America are all unique and fantastic. For them to go from four bangers in a row to a kit that plays it safe seems like the opposite of their brand and sticks out like a sore thumb.
6. Peru
You can’t beat a classic, and Peru didn’t decide to do that here. The iconic red sash stays on the home shirt for Los Incas and the inverse colors carry over to the away jersey. When matched with subtle gold accents, this is a great effort by Marathon to keep the tradition alive.
5. Chile
Like Puma, Nike also went down the national symbol route when they created their kits for Chile.
The home kit has a really smart collar and the traditional solid red of La Roja. The accents on the sides of the kit was inspired by Chilean textile patterns.
The away kit has a wild pattern on it. Nike doesn’t provide an explanation for the blue block in the middle of the chest, but says the red “wings” on the kit pay tribute to the national bird of Chile - the Andean condor.
And in case you were wondering, no, the Andean condor is not red. It’s the heaviest flying bird in the world and is a member of the vulture family.
Tumblr media
Fun fact: the Andean condor is the national symbol for five different South American countries. While it’s nowhere on the jerseys of Peru or Colombia, it’s present on the crests of Bolivia and Ecuador. Chile is the only one who were brave enough to slap that bird on a kit.
At the end of it all, the wings on the jersey do look similar to those on the bird. But, it’s too garish of a design to be any higher than the top five. Nike does deserve credit for trying.
4. Argentina
Let’s start with the away kit. That same Rorschach-esque pattern is back. If anything, it kinda looks like adidas decided to just copy the Colombia jersey and apply the same principles to Argentina. Let’s see here: shoulder stripes similar to the national colors, same shoulders being a blank slate, that weird pattern, sleeves that have the pattern of the national flag - yeah no that seems like a template to me. Though I’ll say this, if it is the template adidas is going with, I like it. It seems creative enough to stand out but ties back to the national fabric of each team.
The reason it drops to 4th on this list is the home jersey. To me, those stripes of La Albiceleste are sacred from a design standpoint. To put any camouflage pattern on it is sacrilegious.
3. Brazil
These aren’t bad at all. It’s hard to screw up the Brazilian home kit, and by my estimation, they haven’t (including 1994). Keeping it simple makes it classy and elegant at the same time. The away kit reverts back to the traditional blue after the Seleção wore a white kit in 2019 to honor the 100th anniversary of their first Copa America victory. The pattern here is subtle and clean at the same time and marks as a good way to return to the norm.
2. Paraguay
The home kit wins this one for me. In Puma’s first run with Los Guaraníes they tied in a number of important national elements in the kit.
Their traditional red and white home kit has a graphic toward the bottom inspired by a traditional lace artform known as Ñandutí. Inside the collar is the phrase “Ndaipóri Khyhjé”, meaning “without fear” in Guarani - an official language in Paraguay and one from its indigenous people.
On the away kit, a simple white shirt gets the addition of two stripes over the crest - one red and one blue - alluding to the national flag.
Puma did a great job with these kits and deserve plaudits for their effort.
1. Ecuador
Back in January of 2020, Ecuador decided to rebrand themselves by dropping a new crest. They did so by creating an awe-inspiring two minute long video showing how each detail of the badge reflects the history and culture of Ecuador
— FEF (@FEFecuador) January 15, 2020
With a logo reveal that good, they needed their first kits to be as outstanding. Marathon answered the call and made the exact kits this crest deserves. The home kit has a beautiful balance between yellow and blue stripes with solid yellow sleeves. The away kit has a monocolor badge, a fantastic turquoise color, and a great looking collar.
These elements themselves are good enough to put them at no. 1 on the list but there’s more. On the inside of each of the jerseys, under the back collar, they dropped yet ANOTHER beautifully designed logo that pays homage to the land Ecuador calls home.
Tumblr media
While Ecuador isn’t expected to go far at this tournament, they certainly win Best Dressed.

Do you have to serve dessert at a wedding?
No, but it is a tradition! Serve wedding cake by itself or alongside a few different types of desserts. Or skip the cake altogether and offer an assortment of the other delicious treats listed above. Make your wedding dessert choice based on what you and your partner want to eat, what you think your guests will love, and what is realistic within your budget.
How many desserts should you have at a wedding?
You should have a minimum of two so guests can choose what they like best. Serve a 3-tier, 12-inch round cake to feed roughly 55 guests. Multiply all mini and single-serve wedding cake dessert alternatives by 2.5 times your total guest count to get an accurate estimate of what you need. Make sure to multiply your total guest count by 3.5 if you want them all to be able to take home some treats as wedding favors at the end of the night.
What do you serve at a dessert reception?
Serve eight to ten different types of mini desserts at your dessert reception. Pair them with beverages such as coffee, tea, and wine. Include a variety of chocolate, caramel, and fruit-based options. Add in some unique snack ideas such as spicy crackers and cubed cheese, rosemary and herb popcorn, or mini meatballs to balance out the sweets. Also, make it clear on your invitation that your reception will only serve desserts and drinks so that guests can prepare ahead of time.

Ranking The Kits From The World Cup From Best To Worst

Ranking The Kits From The World Cup From Best To Worst
Get set to crack out the gaudy memorabilia and dust down your ear piercing vuvuzela, it’s football World Cup time and boy are we excited for the Sunday afternoons roasting like a suckling pig in the pub garden sun as a dimly lit projector beams Japan versus Senegal onto a garden shed.
This coming World Cup has coincided with a rising interest in football kits, and more specifically classic football shirts from the 1980s and 1990s with retro geometric designs becoming as prevalent to the streetwear crowd as the various teams playing in Russia this summer.
“Classic shirts are great for business-as-usual league games, but this historic sporting event calls for a major dollop of flamboyance,” says Simon Doonan, creative ambassador-at-large of New York City-based clothing store Barneys and author of Saturday Night Fever Pitch: The Magic and Madness of Football Style. “Throwing a player into a tasteful solid shirt in a spiffy color is simply not enough.”
According to Doonan Argentina’s winning vertical blue and white stripes shirt from 1978 is a prime example of a World Cup shirt done right. “Vertical stripes – especially like the historic black and white classic shirts of Newcastle and Juventus – never fail to make players appear invincible, and most important, slender.”
To mark the occasion of this coming World Cup we have decided to rank the kits from the World Cup from best to worst, with Doonan by our side as our resident football shirt pundit.
Belgium
The country that gave us French fries (confusingly) and waffles, much to the chagrin of our waistlines, has now given us quite possibly the most beautiful football shirt in the history of the game. From the elegant royal crest placed bang in the middle to the understated 1980s-influenced geometric pattern and the bold rouge, this is simply majestic. Doonan points out that the emblazoned pattern is very similar to the Scottish argyle diamond, mentioning its place in footballing history: “The Argyle recalls the era – back in the last century – when footballing casuals adopted the argyle pattern as an FU to the golfing upper-classes. It’s fabulous.”
Germany
A clear nod to the kit worn by West Germany on the way to winning their third World Cup in 1990, the legendary backstory (cue epic violin solo) only serves to amplify the greatness of this Adidas design. It doesn’t play too heavily on the 1990s maximalism fortunately with the busy pattern across the chest contrasting superbly with the minimalism down below.
Argentina
Rounding out the top three is another effort by Adidas, which really is the king of the football kit making game. The bold sky blue and white stripes has always been a sweeping fashion statement, and here it’s completed with the Adidas three stripes across the shoulder. Like Belgium, it helps that Argentina have a regal emblem but the classy design is still the real winner here.
France
Nike has chosen to base all its 2018 World Cup kits on their Aeroswift template, but the French shirt stands out from the others because of the inclusion of the single button just underneath the collar which makes it look like a Henley shirt, and not a tube of sausage casing you’re required to squeeze your sweaty body out of after matches.
Russia
Similar to the classic Manchester United kits of the 1980s, this shirt is a testament to Russian modesty but all the better for the white lines bolting across the sleeves like Putin riding bareback through Siberian hinterland. The red also has a juicy vibrancy about it – a worthy kit to play in for the hosts of the tournament.
Mexico
Like the 8-bit version of that vase/two people kissing conundrum, the side panels on Mexico’s strip add to the retro look rather than distract. The deep green reminds us of Christmas (or maybe the Mexican flag – funny that) while the white accents, especially the thin trim around the collar, serve to clean up what is a very tidy kit.
Colombia
Adidas – you’re killing us at the moment. There’s something quite David Bowie in the dynamic blue and red zig-zags down the side, while the wrap over collar is a nice little retro touch that doesn’t overshadow the discombobulating shade of yellow. “The Aladdin Sane glam-rock lightening bolts appear to be erupting from the players armpits,” says Doonan. “What better way to intimidate your opponent than by suggesting that your lymph nodes have special powers?”
Croatia
The Croatian football strip has always caused consternation – whether it’s a checkmate all depends on your love of picnic blankets. Regardless, Doonan is a fan: “The checkered pattern is bold and memorable while the away colour combo – grey and black – recalls the Louis Vuitton ‘Daumier’ pattern.”
Portugal
A fairly simple design, the jagged icicles on the French shirt are copied here but you’d need a magnifying glass to spot them. So while the main attraction of this Nike template is hiding in plain sight, all we have to admire are the colours. Good thing they’re pretty ones, with a brusque red as rich as port and the surprising pulling off of red and green which we only thought carol singers could rock.
Brazil
Yes, it’s another lazy kit design from Nike who seem to be focusing on the performance qualities of their football shirts as opposed to how they look, but the Brazil colours really don’t need much interference. Utilising the colours of the scorching sand and the tropical palm trees – nothing symbolises the samba boys better.
Japan
The more we squint at this shirt the more it starts to resemble a birds eye view of the M25, but it’s still a stylish design that we could imagine working with a bit of athleisure. (Apparently it’s meant to resemble an ancient Japanese stitching technique called Sashiko.) Whatever it is, it contrasts well with the plain blue sleeves and the little red accents around the collar.
Australia
Australia is a wild country filled with humongous creepy crawlies and cans of lukewarm Fosters, and yet now the most wild thing in the whole nation are those green veins popping out of this shirt’s sleeves. Shockingly it works, mainly because the green is a deep, luxurious hue and gold is such a winning colour.
Egypt
A little simple, granted, but red and black is a killer pairing in all walks of fashion. The trim also extends beyond the collar and onto the hem of the sleeves which is a step further than some other snore-fest showings at the tournament.
Denmark
X marks the sport for the Danish in this World Cup. Despite resembling a team shirt for Wolverine and co. there’s enough to love in this shirt from the contrasting raglan sleeves, to the arrows sloping down the shoulder which makes a change from the Adidas three stripes smothered across most of the other shirts in the competition.
England
As a nation England has become used to underwhelming performances at international football tournaments, so it is only fitting that our disappointing form is echoed in the football kit. It’s not bad, just unnervingly safe. The only embellishment is a thin red line around the collar, which some might call minimalist, but is so boringly fine it should come with its own PG rating.
Senegal
It’s a bold move to just slam a massive lion right in the middle of your kit, and the Senegalese kit has a Versace feel in all those intricate spirals and squiggles. Also, green and white are a beautiful pairing, but maybe the green could have been a little darker? Just a suggestion for next time, Puma.
Poland
Look we like grey when its bold and knows what it wants to be. But all this faded grey on white shirts just makes it look like it needs another run in the washing machine. Having said that, the red trim on the collar is dynamic and punchy, and Poland has a powerful emblem that helps the shirt stand out.
Switzerland
Switzerland – makers of great watches; football kits, not so much. “Loving the wood-grainy squiggles,” says Doonan. “But what is with the strange faded band across the upper chest. This odd design decision makes it look like every player is wearing a darker red bustier top.” A great look for in the bedroom; on the football pitch, not so much.
Iceland
Why has Iceland skinned a snake and wrapped it around what is meant to be a football shirt sleeve. They’ve not even cleaned it, preferring to leave the blood splatters dribbling down onto the grassy field, like a threatening viking warrior bellowing “remember the Euros” at Harry Kane dressed as St George. The rest of the kit is a nice shade of icy blue though.
Peru
“I love Peru, the country,” admits Doonan. “My husband, the designer Jonathan Adler, gets lots of his pots and pillows fabricated there. So it pains me greatly to throw shade at the Peruvian shirt. The problem is that diagonal stripe is very treacherous. You think it’s going to add the gravitas of an ambassadorial sash, but all its does is exaggerate the area below the stripe and – horror of horrors – create the illusion of a beer belly.”
Panama
This will be the first World Cup for Panama, but unfortunately they’ll be entering the tournament in a kit that looks like it is covered in Lego bricks. It doesn’t even cover the whole shirt, with a bare patched V-shape circumventing the midriff. The neck saves the day somewhat with a shape similar to a Grandad collar.
Sweden
Sweden has foolishly left its football shirt on the Ikea griddle for too long and the grooves have left unsightly diagonal marks up and down their kit. If you’re going to do stripes just do them, none of this messing around with borderline translucent lines. The colour is also treading a fine day-glo line and making us feel a little queasy for it.
Spain
Oh dear, arguably one of the best teams in the tournament goes in to the World Cup in one of the worst kits. “Call me obsessive compulsive, but I will never be able to come to terms with the fact that the ziggy zaggy folkloric design motif only adorns one side of the body,” says Doonan. “Remember – symmetry, symmetry, symmetry.”
Costa Rica
This kit looks like a child has gone to town with a protractor and compass on your nice new rug. To make matters worse there seems to be faint vertical stripes running up the shirt like an enraged maths teacher reversing over road kill. It’s a nice rounded collar though.
Tunisia
Very similar to the Eygpt kit in the contrasting trim on the sleeves and collar, but white is too plain a colour for you to play it safe and classic. There’s also a strange dotty zig zag down the side panels, which has absolutely no idea what it’s doing or what it wants to be – kind of like us before our Monday morning coffee.
Uruguay
We understand that maximalism is coming back into sport kit design (and back out the other side if you look at the England strip) but the supposed sun on this kit doesn’t even look like the one on the Uruguayan flag, or the one in the sky for that matter. In fashion terms, the V-neck is also out after a brief return last year so we can’t even applaud that. A poor showing from the South Americans.
