It. Is. Time.

Sooooo, first of all,

HAPPY VALENTINE'S!!!!

It is indeed very special day for me and i have been very busy today(despite not having a real s/o but that does not matter in the least-)

Since i haven't actually posted about this on this blog, i was planning on doing so ever since i made my blog (but wanted to wait till it was actually the day so i could put my latest update); about how i spend my valentines day!

The routine goes like this:

- the day before, i get two bars of chocolate (white chocolate, cause i love it-)

- the day arrives, and i spend it thinking up ideas on what to draw (sometimes if I get the idea early, i start sketching)

- (around evening/ night) i get my ✨Special Ink portrait✨™ and set it somewhere (this i didn't have to do when I had my doodlesphere area with Ink shrine..)

- put one of the chocolate bars in front of the portrait as an offering and eat the other as I do the next step, pretending that we exchanged chocolate

- time to draw! Drawing while in company of Ink makes everything better~

- while drawing, sing and/or listen to songs of choise (i have a few songs specifically that i connect with ink that are a must play- and another important one is dreamin chuchu!!!)

- when done, write the year in which it's made behind the thing, so I can keep track of them

- fold the paper of the drawing gently, and put it inside a hatch of ✨Special Ink portrait✨™

- (optional) read Ink x reader fics at night ♡

That's how each of my valentines has been going for 5 years. I have never felt like I was missing out on something or lonely on any of them. I spent each of them with Ink, and i wouldn't have it any other way.

Now, I will show you the arts i have made throughout the years on this very day!! (Prepare your eyeballs for some really old art)

what would you like to see or read for the pepperony valentine’s day? :)

Why is this such a hard question??? Like, I entered the stupid exchange, I should have thought about this more before now!

In general, I love banter and them getting to be good parents (to Morgan and/or Peter, because I love Irondad + Pepperony together, also). Anything with that will make me a happy camper.

I also don’t mind a little angst, so feel free to hurt me if I get some comfort too!

If you want some trope options to play with: I love a nice College AU, Amnesia/Memory Loss can be a lot of fun, Kid From The Future isn’t one you see much with Pepperony...

this is a part of the be my bangtanvine collab!

Giggles and shuffling feet is all you can hear throughout the hallway. The cool breeze is barely noticeable against the warm touches from Taehyung's hands around your body. Each time his skin presses against yours, it leaves a ripple of warmth throughout your body, so much so that it feels like you'll never be cold again.

Your hands grasp the edges of his shirt firmly as you momentarily take control, pushing him carefully against the wall so you can kiss him again. Taehyung smiles into the kiss, chuckling deep from his chest as he wraps his arms around your waist. His lips are soft and familiar now and it's become a little too easy to get lost in them.

At times like this you forget this is supposed to be pretend.

Pushing those thoughts away, you continue to dive in.

These kisses start to feel different than the ones from before. Originally, they were nothing more than quick pecks, not even five seconds long at their most intense. Now, they're slow, both of your lips molding together in slow motion, giving you plenty of time to let your hands roam with minds of their own. Your bodies start to connect like puzzle pieces, like the way your hip naturally leans into his or the way your chest rises up flush against his own. Every time Taehyung's tongue barely sneaks past the edges of his mouth sends a warm chill that blooms deep in your chest, rippling until you feel it in the tips of your fingers. You almost want to sigh in relief the way one would when sinking into a nice warm bath after a long day.

Seokjin never kissed you like this.

Slow and steady turns into fast and furious. All of a sudden what you're getting is just not enough. Taehyung pulls at the fabric of your dress, guiding you away from the wall so he can lead you into one of the conference rooms, the very conference room Seokjin and Soyeon will be coming up to in order to exchange Valentine's Day gifts.

You can't help but wonder if this was done on purpose.

This year, the biggest ship I wrote for was Shance (3 fics), with Plance (2) and Klance (2.5) coming in from behind. The k/l ficlet doesn’t count as a full fic.

Character breakdown:

Of the 13 fics, Lance is in the most with 13 (insert surprised pikachu face here), then it goes Shiro (12), Keith (10), Pidge (8), Hunk (7), Allura (6) and Matt Holt (2). Other characters appear only once, such as Coran, Haggar and Kolivan. Technically, the Blue Lion clocks in at 2 mentions.

Characters that had the main focus:

Lance had the sole POV for 7 of those fics, and shared POVs (in a collaboration) iin 2 additional fics. Shiro had the second most POVs at a total of 3, while Keith had 1 sole POV and 1 shared POV, and Pidge with one shared POV.

Specifics:

Best/worst title?

Best title: the water was dark (and it went down forever), but honestly so many other fics has titles I liked. This title was based off of the Tim Winton short story by the name name, The Water Was Dark And It Went Down Forever, where the main character swims and debatably drowns. So it’s fairly fitting.

Runners up titles include Sweeter Than Honey, to the stars and back, and Lay It Down To Save It.

Worst title: Hairline Fractures. It’s dumb and it makes no sense. It was the first thing that came to mind.

An honourable mention includes Leverage, which would be first if not for the fact that the title inspired the ending, so it’s not too bad.

Best/worst last line?

Best: From the water was dark (and it went down forever):

Blue’s grasp on him was like an endless expanse; an opulent and brilliant ocean. Her waters were dark, and it went down forever.

This was definitely my favourite, even though it’s pretty cringe. The way it was formatted in ao3 and the way it related to the title plus the reoccurring symbolism of water made it pretty neat!

Worst: From there ain't no rest for the wicked:

Pidge laughed, and turned her back from the darkness.

I’m sorry. This ending was so cringey. I hate it. There’s nothing else to say except I have no idea how to fix it. Oof.

General questions:

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted?

tbh, I wrote a lot more, considering I had my final exams this year. Breaching 100k was crazy.

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year?

Honestly? Klance. I’m not the biggest fan of the ship but writing it is very interesting, and I enjoyed it.

What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest.

Of Claws and Steel hands down! It’s the first fic idea I ever had for VLD, and the one I really love the most. One day I’d love to write a continuation of it, but the reception of the fic wasn’t great so idk.

Okay, NOW your most popular story.

the water was dark (and it went down forever) even though it was started in 2019, was finished this year and is my most popular fic of all time! It’s got 4k+ hits and 450+ kudos. Crazy, since it was only supposed to be a dumb little warm up fic to get me back into writing in preparation for Of Claws and Steel. Alas, turns out people really liked it!

Story most underappreciated by the universe?

Of Claws and Steel. It was the fic I worked the hardest on this year but got the least amount of attention :)

Story that could have been better?

Easily there ain't no rest for the wicked. There was so much plot and so many things I wanted to include but didn't. There’s a lot of things missing and bad plot flow. One day if I got more time, I’d love to write more on it.

Sexiest story?

In The Closet, hands down. It gets a bit steamy with a k/l makeout session. Originally it was going to be a lot saucier but I wasn’t too comfortable in my ability to write it well ahaha.

Saddest story?

None of my stories were sad, per se. Most of the sad ones were more scary/foreboding rather than actually being sad. I guess to the stars and back right now, because it’s dealing with Lance’s insecurities and Pidge’s desperation to find her brother (and a lot of other things, which will be revealed in the future!)

Most fun?

Sweeter Than Honey! It was fun to write and is my most fun fic. BAMF!Lance and his witty commentary is always a great laugh.

Story with single sweetest moment?

I can’t choose :,). It’s a three-way tie between Cold Floors and Warm Hearts’s last scene where Shiro realises Lance bought him the necklace, Lay It Down To Save It’s scene that I can’t say because it’s technically unpublished ;), and to the stars and back’s scene where Lance and Pidge talk about what they would like to be in life (ch3).

Hardest story to write?

Probably Of Claws and Steel, as I completely stagnated on the story for a long time. It took me 8 months to write it. Without Rue’s help, I probably would have taken so much longer. Runners up is Leverage, as it took me like a solid week to write 90% of it, and 3 more months to write the remaining 10%. For some reason, parts of that fic were such a pain to write.

Easiest/most fun story to write?

The easiest was definitely to the stars and back. I could relate to a lot of Lance’s actions and thoughts in the fic, so writing his POV was super easy and rather cathartic ngl. However the most fun was probably Sweeter Than Honey, as it was super self indulgent ahaha.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters?

Lay It Down To Save It changed my perception of Keith. I don’t particularly like Keith in canon, but I’ve warmed up to his fanon self and general character after writing from his POV.

Most overdue story?

Of Claws and Steel easily! It was the first VLD fic idea I had but took 8 months to write. Oops?

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?

For the first time I incorporated HTML coding into my fics, which taught me a lot about coding and different ways to convey certain messages and detail things. These codings altered fonts and colours, which you can see in

What are your fic writing goals for next year?

Write my tua/vld au fic, which will be my first solo multi chapter fic, and hopefully finish it by the end of next year. Also, sticking to a consistent writing schedule and try to write at least 100 words a day, plus finishing TSSAB. I’d also like to finish some more BTHB prompts!

2020 Fanfiction Review

Fics Written This Year:

This year I wrote exclusively for The Penumbra Podcast. I have 9 published fics, a collections of drabbles I called ‘Scenes from a Fic I’m Not Writing’ and so, so, so many chat fics, ideas and scenes out of place. I have a whole gdoc of ideas that don’t have a plot home and dialogue that doesn’t have background and details I want to include but don’t know where. Ao3 tells me I have written 50k this year alone. Wild!

Takeaways from your kick-ass writing, or kick-ass lack of writing, during a year more focused on survival than perhaps any other:

I didn’t have a lot of a quarantine year. I work as a support role in a healthcare related field, so it’s been all hands on deck this whole year, excepting one month in March. I wrote a lot in quarantine. And I work really, really well when I have a goal or desperately need to escape into fiction. I wrote the majority of Coltsfoot in a single day with my beta holding my hand. I wrote Rita’s Blessing over the next 5 months, whenever I could because it was a gift for SJ that I desperately wanted to give them. All in all, I say I work best with lots of support and a clear goal in mind.

Most surprising fic you wrote this year:

Coltsfoot, hands down. It developed and grew over the day I spent writing it and it was kind of a mystery to me even as I was writing it! I wanted the scene with the baby being confused by parent’s twin. And somehow, for some reason, started with Sarah? Why? But it felt right to start there.

How you grew as a writer this year:

I think I’m really getting the feel for my own style tbh. I write character-forward pieces where the narrative depends on how the narrator perceives it. I lean into realism and prose, I struggle with humor and handwaving. I really like the works I’ve made this year and what’s more - I really like my works from earlier too. I read some of my stuff from years ago and I expected to cringe, but I liked it! I think my work is good and it makes me feel a lot better about the stuff I produce now.

What’s coming in 2021:

Hopefully, I plan to finish a lot of the stuff I started and left hanging. I’ve also got some more experimental works on the go that idk how will turn out, but I’m excited to play in the sandbox! For now though, I am focusing on my valentines exchange fic and ch. 2 of the bakery fic A La Carte

valentines idea

random idea about valentines (i know, we’re only in december atm, dont remind me) but what if we had a wmmap week in february and called it “Who Made Me A Valentine 2021” and the tag could be something like “WMMAValentine2021”

i was absolutely only thinking of lucathy, but the prompt would be vague enough to work for any relationship to your heart’s content (friendship, family fluff, pre-relationship, romance, whatever)

there’d be a sort of optional thing to do -- use the listed prompts or make a thing and dedicate it to someone. for example, you know someone hardcore ships felix/lily so hard and you’re a writer! so you write a felix/lily fic. or maybe you’re an artist, so you draw them something! and then you @ them, saying “i made you a valentine! #wmmavalentine2021” cause i think that’d be cute in a cheeky way

OR you could type “Suddenly Became A Valentine 2021” and shorten it to “SBAValentine2021” or whatever

like. the prompts for the days if people don’t want to do a fic exchange or whatever:

day 1 - dream day 2 - dance day 3 - time day 4 - together day 5 - smile day 6 - chocolate day 7 - kiss

tbh, for an event like this (the whole “dedicate your fabulous gifts to people” type of fan event) is probably easier to handle if you do a sign up sheet and essentially pair people up like a secret santa (everyone gets a gift in the end). but honestly, this is just an idea that i want to just throw out there and to just Not think about it too much jhydsuyhrftuysih

if i actually remember the fact that i made this post, then i’ll probably actually make some lucathy tidbits based on the prompts

Contest Submission Clarification

I got a great question from someone that I thought would be pertinent to share:

Yes, you can retroactively submit fics for entries into the summer event contest for the TBH goodie bag. However, you’ll still be restricted to one entry per week.

For example, if it’s week 6 but you go back and write a fic for one of the week 1 prompts, then you can submit that fanfic for your week 1 contest entry if you haven’t done so already.
