I'm seeing people denying the actual importance and good quality and merits The Untamed had just for their personal issues.
Folks, you can have your personal tastes, you can repeat the usual discourse novel vs drama all over again, but it's really dumb and blind denying the actual facts: how this drama even after 4 years is still a major hit in cn charts, it won a lot of awards in mailand - many of the most important critics' awards - its popularity count billion views, millions got literally obsessed, not just normal liking, and started a community of content creators. A chinese artist managed to get her paintings based on The Untamed to a museum exhibition in the homeland. Two chinese olympians skaters did their program at China Gran Prix of Figure Skating with The Untamed soundtrack in 2019.
Many international people discovered the danmei genre or cdramas in general thanks to it and approached into this large world after seeing and loving it. Finally this genre got the big deserved attention and not anymore underrated. Thanks to The Untamed's popularity, the english amateur translation of Scum Villain, first in hiatus, then restarted and finally finished. Tencent ordered 2HA's live action right on the crest of The Untamed's popularity. And so on.
The impact that The Untamed had and still has, in Asia and beyond, is truly big and unparalleled. There's no doubt this drama has a special place in many fans' heart and even changed our lives for how much it had rearranged our brains.
Seeing people having trouble admitting these actual facts, attempting to deny it (I've read the crazy opinion that The Untamed is loved mostly by westerns in order to miscredit his true chinese heritage and uh my god???) and spreading fake news, misinformations and biased opinions without even watching the drama, dismissing the good stuff it had, is truly surreal and dishonest. You may not love it, it's your business, but do not pretend it's not loved or worthy of people's love and spread bullshit for simple envy over its success D:

Tomorrow X Together on the group's new music, proudest moment and go-to Five Guys order
A lot can happen in a year. Just ask Tomorrow X Together. The K-pop group, known as TXT, performed at Lollapalooza in 2022. A year later, the five artists are headlining the festival alongside Grammy winners Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar.
“I didn’t believe it at first,” Hueningkai, 20, said about the group’s big slot at the iconic Chicago music festival. “It was an honor.”
TXT chatted with USA TODAY shortly after two sold-out shows at UBS Arena in Elmont, New York. The group spoke mostly in English, using a translator a few times. TXT’s U.S. tour continues through Memorial Day weekend, with dates at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles. And while TXT is traveling across the country performing for thousands of fans, the artists managed to take some time for themselves.“A few days ago we went to SoHo to shop,” Yeonjun, 23, said of the group’s time in New York City. “We went to Central Park and it was such a good place.”Hueningkai added the group stopped by Five Guys where he grabbed a favorite: Bacon cheeseburger and a peanut butter milkshake. Fans of TXT may remember seeing the five performers at the burger chain during a 2019 reality show that documented behind-the-scenes moments with the group.
Tumblr media
TXT fans, collectively called “MOA," which stands for “moments of alwaysness,” have driven the group since their inception.“I think they’re our biggest inspiration,” Taehyun, 21, said. “We are fire and they are gasoline.”
When the group debuted in 2019, TXT won Rookie of the Year at the Asia Artist Awards.
“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity at a meaningful juncture of our journey,” Soobin, 22, said. “I’m proud of that.”
Their latest release, “The Name Chapter: Temptation” dropped in January and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. The EP’s lead single was “Sugar Rush Ride,” a dance pop song with a catchy melody. Using such an earworm for the first single was not a coincidence.
youtube
“I think these days there’s short-form, Reels and YouTube Shorts, that’s so important to singers,” Taehyun said. “Making the melody ‘hook-y’ is very important.”
TXT, like BTS, is under Big Hit Music, a subsidiary of HYBE Corporation. And the group believes that the management company has valued working with them.
“I enjoy (Big Hit’s) music style,” Hueningkai said. “They're great at getting us a lot of good opportunities. They're incredible on that front.”
And as far as new music, fans will have to wait. At least, for now.“Our world tour is still ongoing, so for the rest of our tour we’ll make lots of good memories with our ‘MOA,’ " said Beomgyu, 22. “And we’re focusing on coming back with good music and a good new album.”

You can find XOXO’s discography here.
ִֶָ 𓂃⊹. HISTORY
XOXO debuted with the single “Darling” in May 2010. The group began promotions with their debut stage on May 27th at M! Countdown and continued promotions on various Korean music shows to June 20th.
The group returned a year later with the mini album “I Am Me” in June 2011. The album consists of four songs, including “I Don’t Need a Man” and “U-Go-Girl”, which XOXO promoted at the same time. “I Don’t Need a Man” gained XOXO quite a bit anti-fans, mainly men. They posted on Reddit about burning or cutting up pictures of XOXO’s faces and demanded apologies but there was no statement from Delphi Entertainment.
Though XOXO had gained some attention with their first comeback, it was not until their third comeback that the group rose to stardom. In March 2012, they came-back with their full album “Electric Love”. The album consists of nine songs, including “Mr. Chu”. The album peaked atop South Korea's Gaon Album Chart and has sold over 234,500 copies in South Korea. The album's title track peaked atop South Korea's Gaon Digital Chart and was the second best-selling digital single of 2011 in the country, selling over 3.3 million copies. XOXO received a total of five wins on music shows this era.
For their third mini album, Jiyeon did not participate in the stages as she had injured her knee but was in the music video. She constantly supported XOXO’s stages, posting constantly on Twitter and Instagram.
XOXO made their Japanese debut in 2014 with the Japanese versions of their already existing songs. At this time, Eunmi took a hiatus for the majority of the year for unknown reasons and was not seen until the end of the year music awards. The members did not mention her at all throughout activities, confusing fans who then made demands for XOXO and Delphi Entertainment to update them. Neither XOXO or Delphi Entertainment acknowledged these demands.
With the comeback of Eunmi and their second full length album, XOXO announced their first tour, XOXO 1st Asia Tour 2015. They had eight shows, 2 in South Korea, 2 in Japan, 2 in Thailand, 1 in Indonesia and 1 in Taiwan.
XOXO released the first episode of their reality show “Hugs and Kisses!” on November 2015 which comprised 10 episodes being released throughout the year following the four members as they traveled around Asia for their first tour, XOXO 1st Asia Tour 2015.
In January 2017, XOXO announced their North American tour and held four shows: New York, Dallas, Los Angeles, and Vancouver. Tickets were sold out in three minutes.
In 2019, Delphi Entertainment announced the indefinite hiatus of group activities. All four members still remain under Delphi Entertainment. Aera is busy with her modeling contract, Jiyeon and Eunmi both actively promote as solo artists, and Yu goes by Yoojung now and is focused on her acting career.

Academic Books on JP Pop Culture and Beyond
Tumblr media
A list of nonfiction books I’ve enjoyed, largely around Japanese comics but also other literature, fandoms and even one book on a fashion I love.
Fanning the Flames: Fans and Consumer Culture in Contemporary Japan edited by William W. Kelly
Exploring different Japanese fandoms such as music, baseball or rakugo this older book from 2004 has one particular essay I still find memorable despite its age. Girls and Women Getting Out of Hand: The Pleasure and Politics of Japan's Amateur Comics Community by translator Rachel Thorn, which she has also put up on her blog.
Manga: 60 Years of Japanese Comics by Paul Gravett
An overview of the history of modern Japanese comics this title was notably banned in libraries in a California county in 2006. All because it chose to not shy away from including a few pages on the genre of eromanga.
One Thousand Years of Manga Paperback by Brigitte Koyama-Richard
Originally published in French this broader look at the artistic development of Japanese sequential art has also been translated to English by Daniel Radzinowicz, and there’s a newer 2022 edition.
Boys Love Manga and Beyond: History, Culture, and Community in Japan edited by Mark McLelland, Kazumi Nagaike, Katsuhiko Suganuma, James Welker
With a wide-raging collection of essays this 2015 book, nominated for an Eisner Award for best Academic/Scholarly work, is still an informative title available in English on the phenomenon of boys love.
Queer Transfigurations: Boys Love Media in Asia edited by James Welker
Edited by a professor who was also a contributor in the previously mentioned Boys Love Manga and Beyond, this 2022 essay collection looks at the expansion of boys love media across Asia.
Manga in America: Transnational Book Publishing and the Domestication of Japanese Comics by Casey Brienza
If one hasn’t been curious already, any reader of Japanese comics in English could use a look at this 2016 book on the processes and people that brings their favourite material across borders.
Passionate Friendship: The Aesthetics of Girl’s Culture in Japan by Deborah M. Shamoon
While shoujo manga is not just romance comics, this is still a lovely book from 2012 that looks at the 20th century development of various girls’ literature in Japan.
Age of Shojo by Hiromi Tsuchiya Dollase
As well this 2019 book covers the creation of girls’ fiction in Japan, from the turn of the century over 80 years and the at times expression of transgressive ideas.
International Perspectives on Shojo and Shojo Manga: The Influence of Girl Culture edited by Masami Toku
Published in 2015 this not to be missed collection of essays, also with interviews of several Japanese comics artists (including as Takemiya Keiko and Hagio Moto) and their work in girls’ comics.
The End of Cool Japan: Ethical, Legal, and Cultural Challenges to Japanese Popular Culture edited by Mark McLelland
Academics from four continents of the Anglophone world, excepting an inclusion from China, begins to reveal just how convoluted and varied the legal, ethical and cultural questions around Japanese comics and animation are both within and outside Japan’s borders in this 2016 collection of writings.
So Pretty / Very Rotten: Comics and Essays on Lolita Fashion and Cute Culture by Jane Mai and An Nguyen
This 2017 book on Lolita fashion is what I recommend on this sometimes misunderstood subculture still found in street fashion to depictions in media.
The History of Hentai Manga: An Expressionist Examination of EroManga by Kimi Rito
Translated to English by Molly Rabbit in 2021, this is a tenderly dense examination of expressions in a (in)famous genre by a Japanese media critic.
Manga in Libraries: A Guide for Teen Librarians by Jillian Rudes
With Japanese comics popularity only increasing a New York librarian has a 2023 book out to help better understand, value, include, advise, and use comics from Japan for readers, especially teens.
CBLDF Presents Manga: Introduction, Challenges, and Best Practices edited by Melinda Beasi
Along with popularity unfortunately comes book challenges and bans. Though this guide from the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is from 2013, it still contains beneficial information for anyone involved with anti-censorship work.

Do you know if Chinese K-Pop idols are actually forced to show allegiance to the Chinese government no matter what(to protect themselves, their images/careers, as well as their lives and families)or do they actually believe in/support the CPC? Some people believe/theorize that Chinese celebrities/public figures are often forced and obligated to show loyalty and support to China’s governmental policies as political pawns, regardless of whether they actually agree with it/believe in it or not. Otherwise, they’d go missing to be wiped from the face of the Earth, like they never existed. For example, Jackson Wang used to proudly declare himself from Hong Kong, but started saying he is from China solely after the 2019 Hong Kong protests. Is it to protect himself and his family/image/career/life or is it actually because his views/loyalties changed? Similar with what happened to Tzuyu apologizing for holding a Taiwanese flag(JYP wants that Chinese consumer market, I guess). Winwin and Yiren showing support to the one China policy? Jun, Minghao, and Xiaoting being absent from the Asia Artist Awards due to it taking place in Japan on the anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre? Are there certain conditions Chinese K-Pop idols must follow in order to protect their careers and images in the eyes of China?
Hey hun,
Personally I don’t know much about the Chinese politics and how it works but it’s known that of course Chinese idols are very influenced by it and unfortunately they have to pick a side for their own image and safety and even relationship with the country.
However I am not the best person to speak on the matter as I don’t have much intell in it and Chinese politics isn’t something I have much information about. However yes there’s possibilities that some idols do it only for the good image for china whereas other might do it and actually agree with the political view depending on their own value

Worlds biggest Girl Group
The K-pop girl group Blackpink is known as the biggest K-pop girl group in the world because of their success. Blackpink consists of 4 members namely Jennie, Lisa, rose, Jisoo. The girls came from different countries but debuted as a K-pop girl group under YG entertainment year 2016. Their debut song “Boombayah” currently has 1.5B views on YouTube. They were the first K-pop girl group to perform in Coachella and to reach YouTube 1b YouTube views on their songs  now they’re the most-subscribed-to music group on the platform — as well as being the first girl group from any country to feature on Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2019, they broke three Guinness World Records with the single “Kill This Love”, which has had more than 312 million plays on Spotify and over 824 million YouTube views. They’ve been front-row fixtures at runway shows and the faces of mega brands including Chanel, Puma, Louis Vuitton and Dior. And all this with just a handful of songs in their repertoire. Every member is a global ambassador for a luxury brand. Jennie Kim also called "human Chanel”, she is an ambassador and a face of Chanel and other luxury brands. Lisa is a global brand ambassador for Celine and other luxury brands like Bulgari. Rose is also a global ambassador of YSL and other luxury brands. Lastly, Jisoo a Dior princess, is always the main event every fashion week. They also collaborated with some international artists like Dua Lipa, Selena Gomez, lady gaga, and Cardi B on their songs. All their songs always blew up because of the love and support of their fans (blinks). Blackpink became the biggest K-pop girl group because of their awards they have won 88 total of awards and 285 nominations in 7 years as a girl group. They also have the biggest crowd every world tour. Netflix also paired with BLACKPINK to air their 2020 documentary BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky — a look behind the scenes of the band's inner workings. For a peek into the (almost) off-duty personality of the band, look for "BLACKPINK 24 365" on YouTube. The program, a reference to a line from their song "Whistle," was set in a Big-Brother-type camera-outfitted house and was a hub where the bandmates lived during promotional periods surrounding new singles. These are only some of their success, and recently they became one of the top performers in the coming concert in Coachella. They are still ongoing concerts and on March 25-26 they will have a concert in the second biggest indoor arena in the world, the Philippine arena in Bulacan, Philippines.
