@triflesandparsnips made a rather spiffy observation on my post about Ed and face-touching:
It may be worthwhile, considering how much face/mouth violence Ed is sensitive to -- and when we see or hear about it -- to do a review of how much of that face sensitivity is also associated with food and eating.
And hooboy, I ended up down a rabbithole thinking about Ed and food and it got so long, it earned itself its own little post.
These are all the food/eating related moments that tie in directly to Ed having strong emotional responses. I didn't limit it to just the face-touching because there's a lot of emotional mess going on as well.
When Stede wakes him for brekkie in 1x04, he recoils immediately as he wakes, until he realises who's beside him (especially pertinent since Ed wakes in 2x03 and asks if anything was done to him while he was unconscious - he even anticipates harm while sleeping).
in 1x05, when he's being taught the intricacies of dining and the French captain slaps on his big red trauma button while he's sitting at a dining table and already feeling out of his depth with all the tablewear.
Cut to the flashback in 1x05 which has him and his mum talking quietly in one part of the room, but his father is there, slumped and drunk on the family dining table, setting the domestic sphere as a place of constant present threat.
Tumblr media
Later in 1x05, when he's alone at the party, he's freaking out over not knowing how to deal with this kind of fancy-folk dining and then someone touches his face - double-whammy of the emotional stuff and the physical.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1x06 gives us the main flashback to his childhood and his father's violent reaction to 'slop' and 1x07 has stressed, out-of-his-comfort-zone hangry Ed, trying desperately to keep up the Blackbeard appearance ("Blackbeard can't be seen treasure hunting!") and again, something touches his body/head unexpectedly and he lashes out defensively.
There is so much going on in the brekkie scene that I can't even get into it here. Ed trying to code-switch between the way he interacts with Stede and Jack respectively, but most significantly, when Jack talks over him and ignores him trying to change the subject about violence he's done in the past, Ed shrinks down in the chair, doing the small-and-quiet thing he does when he's unhappy (one day I will yell about Ed taking refuge surrounding himself with gold/yellow things - blankets, chairs, robes, pillowforts. His version of the battle jacket).
Tumblr media
1x10 has several moments. First is the marmalade - there's something child-like about the blanket fort and eating sweet sticky things with his fingers, taking comfort in food and hiding.
Tumblr media
The second is something that is viscerally explained in S2 - when he forcefeeds Izzy his own toe. The contrast of the brutality and the very paternal "now don't forget to chew" like an adult talking to a child gave me chills the first time I watched it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The last thing in 1x10 isn't necessarily food, but hooooboy there is something in the way he sets himself up at what was Stede's brekkie table, putting on the worst of personas possible, that is very much reminding me of his dad at the table in a bare, empty home, lit by a single candle, in that first flashback.
Tumblr media
And now, into S2, and our man starts things in a totally healthy and normal way - eating the cake with his weapon. And, more importantly, "did everybody get cake?" Again, we have the juxtaposition of implicitly care-taking language against the surrounding violence and brutality.
Tumblr media
The gravy basket tells us so much as well - he wakes up to the horror of being vulnerable, trapped by his own body and force-fed by someone who we learn had a habit of forcefeeding live crabs to people and who had threatened to flay Ed's skin off and feed it to him. He's rightfully afraid that anything Hornigold feeds him might be poisoned.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once again, we have the parental energy of "open up for the cargo ship" tangled up with the fear of threat and violence and horror - poisoning, flaying and force-feeding.
Tumblr media
Ed's fear has the two utterly bound up together, inescapably so. His father shaped his childhood and Hornigold stepped into that role when Ed became an outlaw.
But even in this messy and horrifying confrontation with his own psyche and layered up with the horrors he's lived through as a boy, some part of Ed still desperately wants the comfort and security of food and home, especially when the food his subconscious is gathering for him are the ingredients for Māori boil-up, something his mother would very likely have made for them.
Tumblr media
It speaks measures that the three things he wants to live for include good food and warmth and orgasms. No fame. No glory. No reputation. Just to be loved and safe and warm and fed.
Jump forward to 2x04 and dinner with Bonny and Read. Ed is unsurprised by the degree of violence happening throughout, but does hesitate when poison comes into the equation - "I got the present you left for me in my glass" - Ed immediately sets down his glass, staring at it warily. Again, calling back to the Gravy Basket and his fear that anything given to him might be poisoned.
Tumblr media
He's already on edge and off-balance - "not sure what's real and what's the basket" and there may or may not be poison and knives and the person he trusted may or may not betray him again and he's already spinning out when Anne - who had already declared her intention to provoke Ed and Mary - cheerfully lands the bombshell of why Stede left him.
No small wonder he storms out of the room, but it does lead to them having a much-needed conversation and he and Stede are on a much steadier footing after.
And then, of course, we have the breakfast of 2x07. This one is especially significant because Ed makes the brekkie then disposes of his leathers. He's actively trying to step from one mode of life to another, from the Blackbeard-and-Piracy into the domestic, softer life he's been quietly craving his entire life.
Tumblr media
Only, as he says himself, "I don't think I've ever made regular breakfast for anyone before". He's trying, but it's something new and unfamiliar to him and it's "my way of saying thank you".
And lastly, we have the scene with the fisherman and his son where Ed has shoe-horned himself into what he thinks is the solution to all his problems and also includes a father-son dynamic, because our man can't do anything without his daddy issues rearing their ugly head.
Once again, Ed is out of his depth, but at the opposite end of the scale from the party ship. This is a place he thinks he should fit but he doesn't. This is the domesticity he craved, but without understanding or appreciating the real work that is needed to get there.
And once again, over a meal, he has an angry father expressing violence. "Control your pop-pop!" he tells the boy who is around the same age as he was when he killed his father. But he doesn't fight back, he doesn't strike out at Pop-pop, and the son steps between them and pulls his dad back several times.
Tumblr media
And it's this father-figure's words that ring in Ed's ears when he realises Stede may be in danger. "If you were ever good at anything, do that". And if there's one thing Ed Teach is good at, it's fighting for the people he loves.
In conclusion our Mr. Teach wants a safe and comfortable home-life, with food and warmth (and orgasms), but he has no real experience of what that is really like or how to get it. His entire life has been a succession of threats and danger and men who would do harm to people in their charge, especially when they were unarmed, defenceless and vulnerable.
He doesn't know how to be safe yet, because he's never experienced it. All he's known until this point is a life of violence and danger and while he tried to move away from that, the violence and danger was still there - as Stede put it, there's no escaping it in their line of work.
But now, at the end of S2, for the first time in his life, he is actually able to say "No, I need to be away from piracy" because his whole journey through both seasons has been him trying and trying to step away from the life that has him by the throat.
And now, he's finally been able to do it and he's not alone. He has someone he's safe with and who is willing to do the work with him to help him figure things out. And give him good food, warmth and, of course, orgasms.

When do you think Brian fell in love with Justin?
Omg, a QaF fan??? In my DMs??? It’s more likely than you think. Ok I have many a thought and I’m going to work backwards. It might be controversial b/c I think it happened early on in season 1 because…
By 1x10 Brian is so whipped he drives all night to New York to find Justin and even though he is beyond pissed the second Justin gives him puppy dog eyes Brian is falling over himself to get inside him.
Tumblr media
Look at Justin’s smug little face! He knows that he has Brian wrapped around his little finger. He starts stripping and Brian doesn’t do anything but Justin is so confident he teases him and asks if he needs help taking his clothes off. Justin is the king.
Tumblr media
Before that in 1x08 after Craig beats Brian up outside of Babylon and gives Justin the ultimatum to go home now or never again; Brian storms off yelling an emphatic “fuck!” He thought Justin would go home and in that moment he was mourning the relationship. I think Brian was already in love. It hurt him to see Justin being asked to choose between his family and Brian but really between his true self and being accepted by his family. Brian knows this pain and it’s why he had not yet come out by this point in the show and it tears him up to see Justin go through that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two episodes before, 1x06, we see Brian looking at Justin’s drawing while someone under the covers is giving him head. This scene is the first time we see Brian have sex with someone else while actively imagining they are Justin instead. Also he goes to the art show at the center in this ep and he would not have done that just for Lindsay. He is there for Justin and he is sooo in love.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1x05 Brian kicks a trick out because the guy was rude to Justin. At this point Justin is already much more meaningful to him than a one night stand. After this Brian tells Justin not to rely on anyone else and the only person you can trust is yourself. I think this scene is so telling because ostensibly Brian is talking to Justin but really he is desperately trying to remind himself of this belief. He is already in love but he is also afraid of what that means.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Brian fell in love as early as 1x03 when Justin had the gall to steal two tricks from him. It was a like-recognizes-like moment. Brian for the very first time respected Justin and saw him as more than just some kid. In a scene at Woody’s in this ep Brian defends Justin to Michael and says “Leave him alone…he’s actually kind of sweet.” Justin’s move at the end of the ep was far from sweet and it not only turned Brian on, it had him head over heels. The way he smiles while kissing him on the dancefloor that night and holds him up in his arms like a trophy. I’m certain Brian took him home and couldn’t keep his hands off him the rest of the night.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For the rest of the season we see the tension between Brian’s love for Justin and Brian’s love for his lifestyle. Falling in love with someone is entirely discordant with Brian’s idea of himself and as we know he feels he can’t be trusted to love someone and have them love him in turn. He is terrified of that vulnerability and he doesn’t want to be hurt especially by someone he has allowed to get this close to him.
This follows them until season 5 when Brian finally allows himself to tell Justin that he loves him. He says it’s because of the bomb, but Brian already had to consider losing Justin once before, and instead of telling Justin that he loved him after the bashing he instead pretends that he didn’t even show up to the hospital despite visiting him every day and watching him sleep. Brian loved Justin from the beginning but he had so much work to do healing from his childhood and the walls he built up before he could even consider letting himself be vulnerable enough to admit it to Justin.
Finally, I just want to say that Justin is god’s strongest soldier. Was he perfect? No. Did he leave Brian and misunderstand him a few times? Yes. But jesus Brian did not make it easy on him. It takes a lot to love someone unconditionally even when they refuse to tell you what you both know is true.
Ok, stepping off my soapbox.

SPN Brain Rot Tasting Menu
this is not a viewing guide. (the only SPN viewing guide i'll sign off on is "bomb your way through the first 3 to 5 seasons in order, then decide whether you want to watch the direct-to-VHS sequel eras.") this is a "someone near you caught SPN brain rot and you're trying to decide whether to join them in hell" tasting menu, based on what piqued my personal interest when i was still on the fence about continuing with the show.
criteria: basically, "ideal episodes to catch by wandering through the room with no context while a roommate is watching SPN." so, skewed towards self-contained, less-spoilery, solid episodes that don't make me want to fistfight them in the denny's parking lot, but did made something in my subconscious sit up like it had been slapped.
okay, shine, what the fuck is this show's deal: 2x16 Roadkill. god's perfect little self-contained one-off ep. nothing spectacular, just a solidly-executed ghost story set on a lonely mountain highway. fairly representative of how SPN monster-of-the-week episodes roll, requires zero prior investment in the characters to be good, and i'm fond of it because this is basically the point where i buckled in and committed to watching the rest of the show. but also, quietly, almost covertly, a thesis statement for some of the core underpinnings of the whole thing.
shut up and give me the sickos-haha-yes.jpg: 1x06 Skin. what if you thought you were in an X-File but ended up getting erotically tortured by a shapeshifter in the guise of your codependent brother? what if you fuckers were so repressed that this was the only way the show could bring itself to air the dirty laundry of your sibling dynamics. what if the monster was all the parts of yourself you could never quite bury deep enough. what then, huh.
tell me more about the childhood trauma AND/OR c'mon gimme more sick shit: 1x18 Something Wicked. still obsessed with how fractally disturbing this episode is. there's a monster that preys on children at night in their beds and the only way to stop it is to catch it in the act. if SPN were a show with anything to say about morality it could eat itself alive chewing on the question of using children as predator bait, but it's not. it's a show about The Horrors + the shit that couldn't be buried deep enough + family as the first and most inescapable hell + the ways it intertwines damage with salvation. also there's lots of Winchester family flashback content in this one if you want to get invested in these assholes and their daddy issues.
under the cut: duos and trios of episodes on specific themes, including some spoilery ones
fine, get me invested in these assholes and their daddy issues (low-spoiler Lite Edition) AND/OR gimme those Americana aesthetics: 1x11 Scarecrow + 1x12 Faith + 1x16 Shadow. 1x11: SPN does "small town that sacrifices people to the harvest gods" and the brothers have their first big fight (guess who precipitates it). 1x12: SPN does "faith healer with some shit going on" and we get our first go-round with both Sam's belief in a higher power and Dean cheating Totally Certain Death No For Serious You Guys. 1x16: SPN starts in on the relentless pilfering of world mythology and the construction of its own demon lore, and we finally get to meet dad in person, which will exacerbate the mental illness of zero overly-enmeshed twenty-somethings.
(early SPN demon lore fucks incredibly hard, btw, and goes some creepy-ass Twin Peaks places towards the end of the season, which the show later doubles down on just when demonic possession is at risk of devolving into a plot device. this doesn't prevent it from devolving into a plot device, but it does retroactively justify some wild gothic-horror readings of s1.)
the I DON'T CARE ABOUT SPOILERS AND I'M FINE GOING IN WITHOUT CONTEXT menu
get me invested in these assholes and their daddy issues (spoiler-tastic speedrun): 2x08 Crossroad Blues (+ 2x11 Playthings) + 2x14 Born Under a Bad Sign. 2x08: a banger of an episode based on some classic "earthly success by selling your soul at a crossroads" folklore; gains twelve extra layers of crazymaking if you end up finishing the season. 2x11 (optional): a "haunted gothic mansion" monster of the week with some fun stuff between Extremely Normal Siblings. 2x14: more quality sickos-yes content a la 1x06 Skin, with a "woke up covered in someone else's blood with no memory of the past week" setup that goes even further off the rails from there.
i want to study Dean Winchester like a bug: 2x18 Hollywood Babylon + 2x19 Folsom Prison Blues + 3x10 Dream a Little Dream of Me. no comment. no fucking comment. don't look at me. we're not going to talk about it.
ok but tell me about the angel content: 2x13 Houses of the Holy + 4x01 Lazarus Rising. you HAVE to get down in the crunchy details of how SPN has been treating the entire concept of god and angels to get the full effect of 4x01, which is one of the show's banger episodes of all time. 2x13 is great, self-contained, and surprisingly low on spoilers, but 4x01 of course contains massive ones for season 3, my stealth favorite of all SPN seasons.
people keep talking about SPN's goofy and/or meta episodes, what's that about?: 3x11 Mystery Spot + 4x18 The Monster at the End of This Book. both casually spoilery. 3x11 is the beloved "yesterday was Tuesday, but today is Tuesday too" time loop episode where Sam watches Dean die approximately 8908234 times (and then shit gets dark). the arc-plotty parts of 4x18 require head-spinning amounts of context, but this is the one where the show exists in-universe as a series of trashy pulp novels by a guy named Chuck, and it flies impressively close to the sun of some kind of meta-storytelling singularity.
i am a masochist who loves fun side characters whom the show will end up mistreating horribly: 3x12 Jus in Bello. contains all three of my problematic(ally treated) faves: Bela Talbot, a shameless con artist and dealer in supernatural artifacts who's just enough of a Dean parallel to drive him batshit cuckoo-bananas insane with hatred for her; Victor Henriksen, the cocky ambitious FBI agent assigned to investigate the Winchesters' multi-state crime spree; and Ruby, a demon who shows up claiming to be a defector from hell and tries to befriend Sam. this is SUCH a well-constructed base-under-siege ep with SO many moving parts, forcing Henriksen and the Winchesters and eventually Ruby into a great reluctant team-up. it's also my big exception to "no recommending episodes that blow my socks off AND make me want to hunt the writers for sport." mostly because its Big Bullshit is an unnecessary sucker-punch inserted after the main plot wraps up, so i can just cross it out with my mental red pen and go "it's fine, they're lying, all my faves are alive and well and in witness protection." if you've made it this far, you need a warning shot anyway about what this show is going to do to you.
notable omissions that also rot my brain like a compost heap: the last 3 eps of s1 for being best viewed with a whole season's worth of intricate rituals as context; fully half of s4 for being incomprehensible without a ten-minute spoiler reel; 2x17, 3x06, and all the Gordon eps, among others, for being simultaneously incredible and enraging. (notable omissions that are important and have their moments but put me off watching the show for over a decade: the pilot and its 2-for-1 special on women in refrigerators.) do NOT @ me for leaving out other Core Brainrot Episodes. i laid out my criteria already.

sejanus has to switch rooms on a school trip due to his roommate– and supposedly best friend– being a bit of a homophobic asshat. he ends up bunking with coriolanus, leading to some.. very, very interesting conversations... (based on 1x06)
word count: 1k
trigger warnings: some homophobia, suggestive content, cheating, peer pressure (ish)
a/n: tbh i don't really like anwar and don't care enough about him to give him a solid character in my au so he's gonna be interchangeable :] here he's represented by hilarius who i have selected to represent chris in my au!! also this is more of a "missing scene" than anything because i do plan on turning this into a full fic some day
Tumblr media
It's not every day your next-door neighbor since childhood offers to give you head. “For comfort,” he said. “We're in Russia. I want to try something new! And you need comforting.”
The icing on the cake? Sejanus might have a bit of a crush on the boy as well…
The first time Coriolanus had asked, he knew it was a joke, but it still caught him off guard. Professor Sickle had decided it would've been a good idea to take the senior class on a trip to the remains of Russia to study the economy before the war that brought the downfall of most of the world– Including America. Russia was one of the only remaining places on the earth that still resembled the Old World.
Sejanus had originally bunked with his friend, Hilarius, for the trip, but after a few homophobic comments? He couldn't wait to get out of there. So, him and Festus (who was the straightest man alive– a perfect fit) swapped rooms, leaving Sejanus with Coriolanus.
“You wanna talk about it?” The blond asked him as he unpacked.. Or, rather rearranged. Their hotel room was small and dingy, it would be able to fit one person just fine but two boys? They were lucky their suitcases were so big. You could even argue that it was holding enough for three, since Coriolanus had packed more than enough for this trip. He was staying for a week, not a month.
Sejanus opened his mouth to say no originally, but decided against it. “.. I guess he's just decided to feel a different way on me being–”
“District?”
“No–”
“Short?”
“Gay!” Sejanus blurted out, turning around to face the other. Coriolanus only nodded, leaning back on the bed before flashing him a grin.
“I could give you head?”
The brunette nearly choked. “Wh– No!”
“It'd cheer you up.”
“For fuck's sakes, Coryo, you're my friend! I came to you with a problem, and you-”
“Slow down.” Coriolanus laughed, standing up. “C'mon.. We're in Russia. I wanna try something new.”
“It's not a hobby, Coriolanus, I–” Sejanus was cut off by Coriolanus’ lips on his own. It took nearly every ounce of his willpower to push him off. “Coriolanus, please! I'm not a hobby!” He began again. “This isn't canoeing or–”
“Eh.. Canoeing isn't really my thing. This could be.”
“What about Lucy Gray?” He asked, changing the subject. Maybe it'd bring him back to his senses.
“Lucy? She likes canoeing just fine.”
Sejanus groaned, covering his face with his hands. “That's– That's not what I fuckin’ meant..”
“Then what did you mean?”
The two boys were cut off by the door opening, and Lucy Gray's head poking through. Speak of the devil. “Sorry to interrupt.. Sej, y'mind if I talk to Coriolanus in private for a moment?”
Sejanus bit his tongue to refrain from lashing out. “No, yeah… Sure.”
Tumblr media
The next time Coriolanus offered, it wasn't all fun and games. After a shitshow party and a bunch more arguments, Sejanus was ready to call it a night.. Which he couldn't even do because Lucy Gray was passed out drunk on his bed.
Whatever. Coriolanus got him into this situation, so it's only fair that he surrenders his bed for the night. The brunette slipped off his shoes and shirt before flopping down onto his bed, head throbbing already. He'd be hung over the next day without a doubt.
He had nearly dozed off when suddenly, something planted itself on his abdomen, forcing all the air out of his chest. Sejanus gasped, brown eyes flying open. He looked up to see Coriolanus sitting on top of him, baby blue dress shirt half unbuttoned, and sleeves rolled up. His blond curls were disheveled, probably from having run his hands through them so many times.
“C-Coryo? What the fuck-?!”
“My offer still stands,” Coriolanus whispered, grinning like a madman. “I saw you at the party.. You're the king of moping..”
“Coryo, please get off–” Sejanus looked away, desperate for an escape. Coriolanus just so happened to seat himself on his hips, applying just a tad bit of pressure to his already semi-hard cock. He really didn't need the added embarrassment of a boner.
He lifted his hands to push the blond off, finding his wrists caught and pinned down by the other. Coriolanus shifted, pressing against him harder, leaving Sejanus to swallow a groan that threatened to bubble out of his throat.
“Coryo..” Sejanus tried not to gaze down at his lips. He really did. But they were just so soft and plush and… Perfect. Coriolanus caught his gaze, and closed the distance between the two of them, kissing him for the second time this day. It was the first successful attempt, though.
Coriolanus’ grip on his wrists loosened. Sejanus took advantage of that, moving his hands up to cup his pale cheeks. When he felt a tongue prodding at his lips, though, he was brought back to reality. Gently, he pushed him off. “.. Coryo, we can't– Lucy Gray is–”
“Passed out drunk. She won't know..” Coriolanus persisted, kissing his cheek before trailing kisses down his neck.
“Still-! It's– It's wrong! We can't..” Sejanus sat up. “.. You're with her and you're not gay and–”
“Who said I'm not?” Coriolanus cut him off again, moving off of his lap. “I know you are.. So I figured maybe we could play around, huh? It'd just be two friends helping each other..”
“For fucks sake, would you listen to me for once?! That's what I've been trying to say, Coriolanus!” Sejanus paused. “We.. Can't mess around. Even if you are interested in men, you have a girlfriend.. Does she even know?!” Coriolanus shook his head no. “Then why are you doing this?”
Coriolanus shrugged. “Why not?”
“Oh, for the love of–” Sejanus grabbed his shirt from off the floor, sliding it back on before smoothing it out and standing up. “I'm going to stay with Clemensia..”
“You can't! Same sex pairing only, remember-?” Coriolanus called out, cut off by the slamming door.

What would be your cast for the second season of HOTD?
I don't got a lot ...
but if I was gonna cast it.
Hmm ...
I actually don't know many young actors. Also, with Season 2 like two years away, I'm kinda in my own head about how these characters are gonna be and should be.
Like for Creggan Stark ... I got nothing, I don't really give a shit about the Starks. Whoever their biggest fans have in mind, I'm good with.
I'm probably good with most fancasts.
The one thing I do have in my mind is definitely for Alys Rivers.
Tuppence Middleton is my pick.
Tumblr media
She is definitely who I had in mind when I read the book. She's born to play evil sexy sorceresses.
I know people want my opinion on Daeron ... but I just don't have a young actor in mind to play him. I'd definitely like to see who would win me over in an audition.
I do have a lot of opinions on what Daeron should be like and or be portrayed as.
My path for Daeron as a character is
Champion of Old Town, Adventurer, and veteran of the Stepstone Wars.
Left Oldtown with his Uncle Gwayne to fight when Otto specifically forbid them - just as he was supposed to return to be Hand of the King after 1x06.
Gwayne is killed and Daeron seeks revenge.
Through the years Daeron distinguishes himself in battle as a swashbuckling and heroic but brash swordsman and dragon rider with Tessarion.
Is given the nickname Daeron "The Daring" by Corlys after sinking the largest warship in the world with Tessarion.
When we meet him he is war weary and has bouts of PTSD.
Brooding and guilty about atrocities committed throughout the war.
At the end of the wars, he comes across a dying knight - a Ser Dustin, Heir of Barrow Town in the North. He tells him that his mother - "The Sapphire Lady" only daughter of the Lord of Evenfall was kidnapped and enslaved by the Triarchy and whose dying request from one sworn Knight to the other is for Daeron to finish his quest and rescue his Lady Mother.
Thinking of how many years ( nearly thirteen) since he had last set eyes upon Alicent - and how he misses her - Daeron agrees.
Thus, when we open up Season 2 we see Daeron arrive in Lys in search of "The Sapphire Lady" of Barrowtown who has been sold and now is a favorite concubine and sex slave to an old and evil female crime boss in the Lysennse underground.
After his rescue of the Lady with the help of "The Black Swan" of Lys and Tessarion, he takes her back to the North where he encounters Jace and Lord Stark. We find that there reunion is a happy one, that they were close friends in childhood and Daeron knows nothing of the war.
However, it's the war that ultimately splits them apart when a matter of legitimacy arises when we find out that Lord Dustin has already remarried a Stark and has small children by her.
Daeron claims this marriage and his young children as Illegitimate, that "The Sapphire Lady" is his true wife. However, Lord Stark claims that Lady Dustin should and can be set aside, because, she committed adultery - rape or not - and sinned by being abed with another woman for years.
To protect his Aunt/Cousin and her children Cregan and the Starks tell Jace that if he and Rhaenyra proclaim the new marriage to Lord Dustin legitimate it would go a long way in them siding with the Blacks.
Jace - with the greatest reluctance - proclaims that Queen Rhaenyra will back Lord Dustin's choice of new wife and allow him to set aside his old one on grounds of adultery.
Rather than see Lady Sapphire become destitute and her honor in tatters as a whore, Daeron challenges Lord Dustin to a duel.
However, in the grief from the death of her son and not wanting to see either her husband or the gallant young prince who has fallen in love with her kill each other. Just before the duel, Lady Sapphire gives Daeron a deep and meaningful kiss and then jumps from one of the Winterfell towers to her death.
Lord Stark orders the now "Rebel Prince" from his lands. Jace tries to apologize to Daeron, but all his uncle and former best friend tells him is "I wish you luck in the wars to come, Nephew" as he Mounts Tessarion. Then, he turns to Lord Dustin and proclaims vengefully that all scores will be settled on the battlefield soon enough - "I'll be waiting". Setting up the "Battle of Tumblestone" between Daeron and "The Winter Wolves" toward the end of the war.
When Daeron shows up again, it's at night in King's Landing. The Green Council in convened. And Ser Cargyll announces a messenger with news. No one really pays attention as a shadowy figure halts.
Alicent: *Without Looking* Yes?
Daeron: I bring word of your son, your Grace.
Otto: *Slowly rises from his seat at the familiar voice, face in shock and wonder*
Alicent: *Looks at Otto with a frown ... then her eyes go glassy when it occurs to her.*
Ser Criston: *Now realizes who he's looking at with a smirk and barely concealed emotion*
Alicent: *Voice almost cracking - still with her back to him* Does he live?
Daeron: Yes, though, I'll admit, it surprises no one more than himself, Your Grace ...
*Otto Strides over and braces the youth's shoulders, shaking him lightly, teeth clenched. Then Braces him in a sudden and emotional hug.*
Otto: *Barely held back tears* I thought I lost you too, Boy!
Daeron: *Hugging tightly the man who raised him* So did I, Old Man ... So did I.
*Alicent looks up and matches a glance with Ser Criston, she can barely hold it together, but she can't show weakness or frailty in front of the War Council. But she holds on her stare with "The Kingmaker" leaning, being carried by, his strength once more*
Alicent: *With a heavy voice that falters a moment, her back still to him* Ser Cargyll have the spare chamber in my apartments readied.
Daeron: My old room will ...
Alicent: Ser Cargyll ... have it readied
Daeron: *Leery at the woman hunch low with her back to him over a map* As you wish.
*He then claps Otto across the chest and gives a poignant and meaningful nod to Ser Criston as he leaves, escorted by the Kingsguard Knight that claps a friendly and admiring hand on the fellow knight's shoulder.*
Later, Daeron is sitting by the fire in Alicent's bedchamber when the door fliesopen. He stands quickly when Alicent rushes in, looking wild and aggressive - Criston trailing a distance closes the door behind them. Aicent's face his red, and her cheeks flush as if she had ran the length of the Red Keep. She fixes the now grown young man with a nearly possessed eye.
With loud clacking she races at him. Daeron - by instinct - puts his hands up in a boxing stance to defend himself. But instead, Alicent leaps up and throws her arms about his neck and crushing herself to him desperately.
Ugly and angry sobs are unleashed as she nuzzles his ear. When he looks up, Ser Criston simply nods - confirming that whatever he needs to do, that he's in a safe place Alicent and himself, that Daeron can let go in front of them. Eventually, with emotions held back for so long - over a decade - and with his failure at Winterfell on his mind. Tears steam down Daeron's face as he wraps his arms around Alicent's silken green figure. Then, squeezing her tightly - as if he were drowning and she was oxygen - he lifts her off her feet and then spins her about the room once.
...
Boy, this one got away from me ...
Wait, what was the question?

@thingsthatneedtobesaidsblog RE your comment on this post.
Yes, but I never completed them. I’ll share below old stuff from my documents
1x01 from Floyd’s pov finding out that Lauren was exposed to what they thought was ebola. I never finished it just wrote a blurb when he talks to her at the end:
Although Lauren isn’t the woman he pictures to be by his side, and grow old with; it's impossible for Floyd to picture a life without her in it.
“You wanna grab a drink later?” He asks her, repeating the same line she gave him multiple times earlier.
He knew he shouldn’t. Lauren was not part of the plan, but he needed this. He needed tangible proof that she was okay. Seeing her, hearing her, touching her… at that moment, he needed all of her.
1x06 - Lauren’s pov of walking away from him and introducing him to Evie (never wrote any)
3x05
- Option A) Floyd’s pov being butt hurt about Lauren saying just bc they didn’t workout personally doesn’t mean they can’t workout professionally . This below is literally all I have
“Didn’t work out for us personally, but professionally maybe we have a future.”
Floyd felt an uneasy feeling in his stomach when Lauren said those words to him. He spent his day with the quick wit, spit fire, and he was in awe. Most surgeons love to down talk
He buried his feelings for her, but they truly never went away. Being with her all day proved that to him. He still loved Evie but Lauren was his… she was such an important person in his life. When they worked on the patient together earlier in the day, it felt like the old days. It brought him back to the first night they ever hooked up. A 10 car accident occurred and they saved every patient that walked through New Amsterdam’s emergency department.
Option B) they hookup post the surgery? (Idk this is my notes I don’t really remember the episode)
Childhood AU
- based off of two things mentioned in s1: 1) Floyd mentioned his mom would take him to the bookstore on his bday and let him buy as many books as he wants 2) there’s an episode where lauren mentions a comic she likes
-in AU Lauren leaves her mom drunk passed out mom to buy her favourite comic on the same day as Floyd’s bday. They meet there as kids and I think I had it that she helps him pick out a book or two?

[SGA] 1.06: Childhood’s End
Tumblr media
Puddlejumper!! :3
Rodney and his talking about Sam… John looks sad/moody/bored af.
Turbulance?? Wtf??
Rodney is so snarky, today he is grumpy cat with grumpy face…
Um… what? Are we going down? *panicked squawking noises*
Wow. That pile of sand was very conveniently placed.
“You brought a magnetic compass to another planet in another galaxy?” Always the ton of surprise. And then he steals it.
“Can we go that way for a bit.” “Why?” “Lt. Ford’s Compass is acting weird.”
Rodney is suddenly having a whale of a time. Interesting ruins, and a spazzy compass… something is generating a magnetic field… hold up. An abandoned city… with technology in it… that’s still running after all the time needed to ruin said city… ZPM anybody?
Kids with weapons. Bows and arrows?? Full grown??
Tree houses? Yessss!!! Finally!! I have been begging for tree houses since the first ep of SG1.
Is that… wraith skeleton??
Fell out of the sky…?
Why are they all kids?? Where are the grown ups?
Elder… say what now? At twenty four? Are you kidding me??
The Well?? Well, I suppose it’s big and round and looks full of water.
This guy looks like a baby Tim McGee.
Wait… nobody older than 24? Are you kidding me, we found tree houses only to find them inhabited by a suicide cult??
Rodney enjoys deer? So noted.
“What’s a grown up?”
Aww… Rodney dealing with kids. I love it. So cute.
“Well I’m not a quiet person. I talk a lot.” XD
John is Not Happy to hear this kid is going to off himself in less than 12 hours.
Twenty four? If I lived there, I’d have… six months and ten days...
Forced sacrifice? You mean… they’d kill him?
I think if it were me, I’d chance going through the Well. Maybe.
Rodney… Rodney don’t make them cry…No… no no no. Dammit Rodney.
Yes dear, he is, he is very mean… but it’s nothing personal.
Ford is so cute with the kids. So excited to introduce them to chocolate.
I see a glowy thing!! I WAS RIGHT!!! I SAID ZPM, DID I NOT!!
“McKay?” John sounds so surprised.
Um… you disabled a shield???
Oh! Oh no! You did not! Dammit John, you jinxed us.
Wow... Rodney darling, you need to be socialised more often. John, your pet scientist needs more training.
The ritualistic suicide is really freaking me out. A lot. A lot a lot.
Liz worries me sometimes.. she’s so detatched. Also, am I the only one who still remembers that one time she sectioned off part of the galaxy for Earth and basically gave the rest to the Snakes...
John sees a blinky!! Well shit.
??? !!! ???
McKay... what did you do?? Are you effing kidding me?
This Ares kid was very well-named.
whelp... I guess we’re all fucked now. Or not. because nobody noticed Rodney hiding. :D
Noise? Wraith? What is happening.... jfc it’s just the kids.
“we came to see if you left any chocolate.” what has ford done? giving addictive substances to small children?
What is that!!
Ares, no! That is not how we deal with our problems!!
Rodney would be a Good Dad. Making the small children come inside when he hears the Wraith Dart.
“It works!!” “Of course it works.”
Well shit... having an Arrow stuck in you is not a good look for anybody.
Rodney being harrassed for chocolate... Lol. He might have clued into bribery very quickly, but not on the fact that he would be giving a mouse a cookie.
“See. Him. There.” Rodney says, gleefully fobbing the kids off on the birthday boy.

Time for my Rexi dissertation yall.
When Lexi said the play was about friendship I get it now. Because she GAINED Maddy as a friend when she moved in, she LOST Rue when her dad died and Lexi’s dad left and lost herself when she didn’t know how to deal with her trauma and pain outwardly.
Her centring on Rue’s dads death and how it affected Rue placed side by side with how losing her father and best friend to addiction hurt her is so important to me because I believe that’s why Rue wasn’t mad at her, she saw that someone loves her.
That someone remembers how kind and sarcastic and caring she can be.
That someone remembers she’s more than her addiction and that Lexi isn’t claiming her trauma is larger than Rues but that they both experienced some shit as kids and it affected them differently.
Another reason to me that Rue wasn’t so pissed was because she saw it was a love letter to THEM (Rexi). It wasn’t Lexi saying her trauma is bigger than Rue’s, it wasn’t her comparing their pain, it was her saying “we’re just kids, we went through a lot but this girl has been with me through a lot of it. she’s not a bad person she’s not her mistakes. these girls are not their mistakes. Maddy is not just a ‘bad bitch’ she’s also kind. she might not be nice but she’s kind.”
Introverted Rue found drugs and shy Lexi became timid, they lost themselves and by extension their friendship but they are starting to grow back together as friends.
Rue also realizes that her friend carries a lot on the inside and keeps it bottled up so she gets no reassurance or someone willing to listen so Rue applying her knowledge of addiction and an addict’s mindset to explain where Lexi’s dad probably is mentally was what she needed.
Season 1x01 and 1x06 and season 2x7 and 2x8 highlight how they can be each other’s support because they know each other’s trauma and they’ve seen the part of themselves that they hide from everyone else.
Lexi is hiding how painful and sad and angry she is about her father and possibly about how she has to be the parent in her home, about how she is second fiddle to her older sister meanwhile you also have Rue who is now only starting to deal with the actual grief that never left regarding her dad and how she lost him and anger at the fact that she’ll never get to learn life from him.
They might be the only person in the other’s life who truly get each other especially considering how Rue is naturally just someone more introverted so she can understand why Lexi would keep some shit to herself and I found that beautiful.
Lexi and Rue still loving each other after all of this and Rue being one of the few people who was ‘in’ the play actually loved it is something so pleasing to me. everyone has always taken from Lexi (Rue included) it’s so nice to see RUE step up and be a real friend to LEXI.
Also, the juxtaposition between the Maddy/Cassie friendship versus the Lexi/Rue friendship? We started season one and two believing Maddy and Cassie were best friends and them being very close and we thought Cassie always had Maddys back (till 2x1) and vice versa while on the other hand Rue and Lexi during season one were on shaky ground, they didn’t really have a lot of meaningful interactions (I can only think of the Halloween conversation and Lexi telling one of their classmates they’re being rude when they ran Rue off the stage in episode and following Rue, gathering the confidence to speak like that and leave to make sure Rue is okay.) and Lexi was either used for her pee or in one of the few sober instances only remembered then by her childhood best friend and even during their hanging out in that season Jules was involved, they didn’t have much of a friendship and us ending season two with them being friends, with them being open with each other about their trauma because I am sure Rue hasn’t spoken to a lot of people about hers and I don’t think she ever spoke to Jules about it in depth while she had this really deep conversation with Lexi and we get to see Lexi have somebody who wants to listen to her and not judge her for saying she was kind of relieved when her dad didn’t come back at first and now is sad.
we have them having this deep conversation and we have them as what I believe, best friends again. as one of the few people who understands the other and that’s because Lexi did not compare pain.
They end the note as best friends meanwhile the other two end as not even enemies, as just Cassie who hurt Maddy and I think that’s worse than enemies.
My Euphoria BIG 3 are Lexi, Rue and Maddy and honestly? That’s family
Also, sober Rue??? I love it. that’s my sister. I’m gonna stand by her.
the acting that my sisters Zendaya AND Maude were giving because I saw a lot of people saying Zendaya was carrying Maude but she was giving subtlety. like we wanna put her against the explosive anger that Cassie or Maddy have and that’s not her.
we want to put her against Rue who is obviously going to be more emotional because she’s sharing how she doesn’t know how she’s gonna do sobriety for the rest of her life, she doesn’t have an outlet, her addiction was hard, relating it to someone else and the fact that her dad is really gone and no drug is ever gonna be able to hide that pain from her anymore.
Lexi was just more subtle in her emotions and instead cried because when you finally get to open up after so long and have someone willing to listen, sometimes you don’t even have the words for it so they were definitely giving favourite relationship this season they were definitely giving favourites scene in this episode
Final thoughts? Rexi came back to me and I love them🫂

One of the reasons I love Rayla — and one of the reasons she gets me so emotional — is because Rayla is a character who is constantly embroiled in conflict. Like for the rest of the main cast (Ezran, Soren, Claudia, Harrow, Viren, Callum, etc.) we see their Ordinary Life before the Plot — for them — really starts. Rayla is immediately dropped into a massive ethical and emotional conflict, she immediately 'fails' and has to grapple with it. She is immediately grieving what she thought of herself and her life, and spends so much of the next three seasons just trying to chase her perception of her purpose in life & catch up with her perception of herself. Her life changing, grief induced altering of herself, happened four months before the start of the show.
And like I also always make a point of like, s2 is a really rough season for Callum — nothing ever goes his way until the very end, and it's loss after loss, in a lot of ways; losing magic, then his dad, then his childhood friends, then almost dying in the storm, then worrying over Rayla, then almost dying from dark magic, then having Ezran walk away, which is why him unlocking sky magic feels like Such a win, bc it's the first one he's had in so long. And bad or sad things still happen to Callum in s1 and s3!
But Rayla arguably never gets any sort of reprieve. 1x01-1x03 is intense and radical and emotional, she already knows what she's signing herself up for with derailing her mission and to a degree of what standing against Runaan entails. 1x04 is humiliating and scary, 1x05 is emotional and uncomfortable, she struggles her way through 1x06, by 1x07-1x09 her hand is in worse shape than ever and nothing is working. Then in season two she's worried about the lies and protecting the boys, she's repeatedly terrified of losing Callum for a variety of reasons and in a variety of ways. She gets 3x02 as a reprieve and then the rest of the season from 3x03 onwards has an underlying current of grief and processing, punctured by moments of happiness — but nothing that can fix her turmoil, because it’s her. The conflict is her.
Even the closest we get to total happiness, in 3x09, is after she narrowly avoids death that she was fully prepared to meet, without even the hope of survival that Callum had, and we know from TTM that it’s temporary, that it doesn’t last. Not even a little bit
It's why the line from "Peace" by Taylor Swift always gets me, and why I always ascribe it to Rayla, because it describes her so well: "And it's just around the corner, darling / 'Cause it lives in me / No, I could never give you peace"
And I think that's why s4 is going to have so much catharsis for her, because arguably for the first time in the whole show (except for Maybe the very end of 3x09, but even then) we'll actually, hopefully, get to see Rayla just Breathe
And I can’t wait to see it, because by god this child needs it
