Let Me Introduce Myself
I’m Respect the Petty, and I love colors. I’m on my own little mission to annoy all of y’all about how colors, lighting, barriers, clothing, and other visuals enhance QLs and add depth to the story.
For those of you who keep asking me for a “Master List” (bleh!) since apparently it takes too much time to scroll through my insane amount of posts because I don't know how to stfu, here it is! Plenty of posts didn't make the cut simply because there is a limit, so I included the ones that delivered the most features from above, and if you search my tags by the series' titles, other posts regarding the show's colors should be able to be found.
The goods are below the cut 👇🏿
A quick overview of what I do and what the colors mean
Key:
Color Coding shows the main colors associated with the characters <- most of you are here for these
Barriers examine the physical barriers that separate characters in a scene and what they represent (emotions, miscommunication, etc.)
The Clothing Tells the Plot looks at a specific clothing item in a scene
Background Noise includes various elements like barriers, clothing telling the plot, lighting showing feelings, and general details for the show
Episode Reviews cover all of the above for each episode plus my unhinged ramblings

Notes:
If a link doesn't work or goes to the wrong post, let me know
If you have an ask or a request, feel free to send me a message, but be warned that I really don't shut the fuck up about colors, so you could get a ten-page report back in response
If you write a post about colors, lighting, barriers, clothing, or other visuals, feel free to tag me
I'll update this post at the end of each month depending on what discoveries I've made during that month (Updated: 4/15)
Now that you know who I am, remember that a world without colors is a world devoid of emotions and feelings, so embrace the magic and follow me down this chaotic path of visual rhetoric.

BL Coming in August
Here’s what’s starting this month. Which ones are you excited about? My top picks for me as The Eclipse and About Youth, let’s see how wrong I am.
THAILAND
Tumblr media
War of Y
From COPY A BANGKOK (trailer)
20 eps (holy fucktard, 20 episodes of Cheewin’s nonsense), starts Aug 2 on AisPlay premium
Tumblr media
On Cloud Nine
Country setting, atmospheric LTR flavored BL with themes of self acceptance from MindTrio (trailer).
6 eps, starts Aug 6 on Mind Trio’s YT channel
Tumblr media
21 Days Theory
Friends to lovers, self acceptance, secret crush, high school set from Rookie Thailand (trailer). Looks high angst, messy, cheating, secret crush stars Bever (En of Love: TOSSARA, En of Love: Love Mechanics, The Best Story and Love Mechanics) and Tee Khunakorn (The Cupid Coach).
8 eps, starts Aug 7 on Rookie Thailand’s YT channel (I think)
Tumblr media
The Eclipse
An enemies to lovers high school set, paladin bab boy pairing from GMMTV. This is right in their wheelhouse and was my most anticipated from GMMTV’s 2022 line up. Tropes include: sinister boarding school, haze the one you love, suspense & horror elements looks great, dark (but in a way Thailand can handle), kind of Blacklist-ish meets Great Men Academy. GMMTV excels at this kind of content. Stars First (The Shipper, Not Me) & Khaotung (Tonhon Chonlatee) side dish pair from FUTS NeoLouis. I actually really like this lead pair and I think they can handle the content. trailer
12 eps, starts Aug 12 on GMMTV’s Youtube channel
* I’m gonna point out an important thing. I find it notable that Khaotung as the aggressor/bad boy (for a change) in this GMMTV offering has his natural skin tone (aka darker) as opposed to when he’s playing a super uke role (see Tonhon Chonlatee). Now there could be mitigating factors (like the makeup people got better at matching base tones, or they were shooting outside a lot), but still Thailand’s propensity for associating negative/evil/poor/crazy characters with darker skin tones is so painful and so insidious I want everyone to notice this, especially when we see it being carried out on THE SAME actor by THE SAME production team.
And yes, Korea does this too.
Tumblr media
My Only 12%
Friends to lovers, high school set, high angst, sunshine/sunshine pairing from Studio Wabi Sabi for iQIyI. (trailer) Neighbors and childhood friends, Cake & Seeiw, who have totally opposite personalities slowly growing apart. This one has the chemistry and the script so fingers crossed it’s not sad. Y-novel adaptation (author Afterday - Bad Buddy) starring SantaEarth (7 Project).
Do we trust Studio Wabi Sabi or director New anymore? Even with SantaEarth (especially with SantaEarth). That is the question.
Aug 12, 15 eps on iQIYI
Tumblr media
180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us
Coming to Gaga (trailer). Doesn’t look like BL: “Can a mother be more understanding of her son’s sensuality? Even if she does, will it be easy for her to accept his relationship with a man twice his age?”
? eps, starts Aug 15 on GaGa
Tumblr media
Love in the Air
Enemies to Lovers, high school set from Me Mindy (trailer). Mame’s upcoming adaptation of her novels Love Storm and Love Sky, focuses on 2 couples and their individual storylines.
10 eps, starts Aug 18 on ?
Ghost Host, Ghost House is supposed to be coming too.
TAIWAN
Tumblr media
Papa & Daddy 2 AKA Papa and Daddy Season 2
Gaga bringing us the second season (trailer). Starring Melvin Sia (Damian) and Chiu Mu Han (new actor as Jerry). Looks messy.
6 eps, starts Aug 8 (Taiwan's Father's Day) on GaGa
Tumblr media
About Youth AKA I Secretly Fell in Love with Student Council President
Enemies to lovers, high school set for CHOCO TV to air on Bilibili (no trailer) from the producers of HIStory 2&3, and Tsai Mi Chieh the director of H1: Stay Away From Me; H2: Crossing the Line; H3: MODC; Love Is Science (we like her). Adapted from the novel Secretly by Huang Si Mi about high school boys with different backgrounds, personalities, and values who compete for student president, but have more attraction than animosity. The drama focuses on two storylines: egocentric elite student Ye Guang who fights in the council elections with a quiet guitarist Xu Qi Zhang, and his friend Ray who after a recent breakup up with his boyfriend meets A Jian.
10 eps, starts Aug 29 on Bilibili
JAPAN
Tumblr media
Takara and Amagi AKA Takara-kun and Amagi-kun AKA Takara-kun to Amagi-kun
Opposites attract, secret love high school popular/geek pairing from MBS (no trailer). Same studio as Mr Unlucky and Senpai, so expect that style. A popular guy and an outcast boy start dating in secret. Stars Jpop Idols Arata Sato (IMPACTors) as Takara and Nao Oriyama (Shonen Ninja) as Amagi.
8 eps, starts Aug 18 on ?
Interesting that there isn’t anything from Korea and nothing new for Viki this month. Although give them a chance, they drop suddenly and later sometimes.
I don’t always know where to find these and remember your territory and accessibility may be different than mine. But drop a comment if you have more info.

180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us Ep 6 Stray Thoughts
I'm still not over Wang's coming out scene to In last week, so I'm in my feelings just heading into the episode.
Haven't mentioned it, but I really love the intro for this series. It sets the thoughtful tone from the beginning, and reminds you that this is going to be DRAMATIC.
Of course In fell asleep reading a book on the philosophical benefits of baring one's self.
Loving a simple meal of instant noodles turning into a conversation on the nature of politics and current affairs.
Wang is so unsubtle with these chopsticks and I love it.
I'm not sure how I feel about Sasiwimol's acceptance speech. I'll have to think about it more later. Feels like she felt the need to shade people, and it felt unnecessary.
Ah, there are my beloved architectural bars. Of course In moves to be framed by them as he tells Wang more about Siam.
The cinematography is so intentional in this show. In carefully talks around the interior details of his relationship with Siam and Sasiwimol as he details the history of the graduation and Wang's birth. Then, as he talks about Siam's admission about his life, the frame tilts uneasily, accentuating that this may be the first time In has ever revealed this to anyone, and that Wang is hanging in to this moment as well.
Pond and Nike do such a great job together. You can feel Wang's need to know it all, and how he keeps catching himself from interrupting. He knows that if he stops In he may never hear the whole story.
It's absolutely incredible how In talks around Siam's confession to him. How even now he cannot say the exact words because he's bottled them up so tightly.
It's interesting how Wang is level again after In's admission that he ran, but In ks still tilted.
It really cannot be overstated how powerful these performances are. No one has revealed anything we didn't basically suspect already, but the admissions hit so hard because you can see how the reality impacted the characters so deeply. Most of this show is just people sitting on a couch revealing things, and yet it is consistently the most affecting experience of the week for me. This is a truly phenomenal piece of art.
Love how they were about to kiss, and then the phone rings, which then tosses us back the shot of In framed in his cage with Wang about to kiss him. I'm going to lose it.
It's interesting how Sasiwimol berates Wang for not coming with her to celebrate her win, but she doesn't acknowledge him as someone who matters in her speech. Now she sits alone in her apartment with her awards.
And the moment is gone. In stops Wang from kissing him. Probably the right call, but damn was I invested.
The phone as a source of torment for In is palpable.
Suddenly everyone's having a bad night.
In's silent struggle before pulling Wang back might be the first open admission of his desire for anything other than isolation in the entire show.
Sasiwimol returns next week. I'm actually curious to see how she reacts to the shift in Wang and In's dynamic.

My Updated BL Lists
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Eclipse has a dystopian theme, regarding a school, run by an authoritarian school board and principal. There is a death, rumors of “a curse,” and crackdowns on any resistance or dissent among the students, against the rules. A mysterious, unorthodox, new student enrolls to solve the mystery behind his Uncle’s death, to change hearts and minds, and to find love. (Thai bl)
Love in the Air may have elements from many other genres of bl storyline, but with this series, it all feels new and fresh. The characters, and the actors who portray them, and the fresh way the storyline approaches their relationship are what make this series special. I’ve only watched 5 episodes, so far, but this is, currently, one of my favorite series—yes, I can already tell!
(Thai bl)
My Only 12% feels like some of the same old, same old, but I’m up to ep 6 and am still hanging in with it to see if it goes anywhere new and unfamiliar. I feel that the story stays on Cake and Eiw’s childhood for too long, it gets tiresome. But, the story is finally turning, which is why I’m hanging in awhile longer. (Thai bl)
180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us is more of an adult-themed drama. It’s got the look and feel of a stage play, often a two-man show, but with the mother often appearing to spoil everything. This is a thoughtful, well-written (from a gay man’s personal experience, I suspect), very nicely cast, acted, and directed, bl drama. There may be a taboo regarding the theme, as you won’t see any sexual relations between the leads, but there are some very real feelings depicted and it is very fine entertainment, like fine dining, probably appealing to an older audience. (Thai LGBT-themed series)
I forgot, I’m also watching, Takarakun and Amagikun
It’s very cute, so far! Nothing heavy, very light and sweet with two ADORABLE LEADS!

Watching On-Air
The Eclipse
Country: Thailand
Release Dates: Aug 12, 2022 - Oct 28, 2022
Dates Watched: Aug 24 - Oct 29, 2022
Rating: 7.5/10 7/10 [Jan 24, 2023 Update: Decreased by 0.5 stars when rerating my top BLs] [Jan 25, 2024 Update: Decreased by 0.5 stars when rerating my top shows: 7.5 -> 7]
Watched Via: GMMTV Youtube (free)
General Thoughts: I enjoyed the middle few episodes immensely (like 5 - 10, with #9 being my fave), as well Ayan/Akk + the acting + how the plot and themes were handled for those episodes but the ending definitely took a hit and I wish it had tighter/cleaner writing and editing in general. The show tackled interesting topics, including societal expectations and the status quo, fighting back, how characters we want to root for can be doing bad things and how they grow from it, mental illness, all the intersectionality of like queerness and financial situation and mental illness. It didn’t hit the mark for all of them because I think the script needed to be tightened and the editing needed to be stronger but it was well enough considering the budget + them filming and doing post-production while it was airing. I loved Ayan/Akk soooo much, definitely one of my favourite couples of the year.

General Thoughts: This show worked for me while binging in a way that it wouldn’t have worked if watched weekly. I enjoyed watching it while watching but I fast-forwarded sometimes and don’t care enough to be upset at its pitfalls because I came in knowing many of its flaws (draggy middle few eps that went better bc i binged, insufficient world building that i didn’t get to theorize about or scruitinize, I knew there’s not much OhmNanon after the first two eps, that there’s nothing from the original universe, that they worldbuilding isn’t very expansive, etc).

But I’m A Cheerleader (1999) (non-BL more like queer with a focus on lesbians)
Country: English
Release Dates: 2000
Dates Watched: Oct 3 - 4, 2022
Rating: 7/10
Watched Via: Criterion (free with uni access)
General Thoughts: This was so good, moved me in a way oof Also, this paralleled the “I know I’m queer, you know I’m queer, but I gotta pretend because of circumstances” vibes from Episode 8 of The Eclipse. Loved the queer adults taking the kids to the gay club + taking them in when they have nowhere else to go. The parents saying ‘you’re choosing to cut us out of your life if you choose to continue with that lifestyle’ when in fact they were cutting out Megan struck a chord. The ending made me teary eyed and the 2 second after-credit scene with Megan’s dad going to the Parents and Friends of Lesbians & Gays meeting and saying “My name is Peter and my daughter is a homosexual” made actual tears fall lol
tags: but i’m a cheerleader
The Graham and Megan dancing with diff people and getting jealous scene reminded me of History 3: Trapped, so I’m skipping certain parts of that too. Ep 5 (Shao Fei and Tang Yi making each other jealous dancing with other people at the club), Ep 9 (Shao Fei jealous of Andy/Tang Yi, the doctor/Tang Yi, and then asking “is your body for people to line up to touch? should i do the same” and tang yi replying by taking off his jacket and saying "go ahead, feel away”), Ep 15/16 (Tang Yi sending those messages and voicemails, going to Shao Fei’s workplace, Shao Fei playing the messages back), Ep 20 ending part
Do Revenge (non-BL more like queer)
Country: English
Release Dates: Sep 16, 2022
Dates Watched: Oct 6 - 8, 2022
Rating: 6.5/10
Watched Via: :>
General Thoughts: I watched it because Camilla Mendes is sooooo  attractive to me - everytime I saw her in Riverdale I was like :0 Thought this was about college kids though, lol they’re 17? Also, knew it had queer stuff. After PS I Hate You last month, maybe I should have a new “girls who are interesting and evil and their rocky, rocky friendships” show/movie to read everything month lol Anyway, this was fun and entertaining and off the rails. I’d thought that Eleanor saying “Carissa accused me without reason” and them running with it was too easy, so I was glad to see it again come up in the twist. The twist was great but I think the writing and character/relationship development went a little wonky after that. Regardless, still fun
tags: do revenge
Star and Sky: Star in My Mind
Country: Thailand
Release Dates: Apr 8, 2022 - May 27, 2022
Dates Watched: Oct 8 - 9, 2022
Rating: 6/10
Watched Via: GMMTV Youtube (free)
General Thoughts: Fine, cute enough. Got annoying in the middle with the Phoon thing and then got boring after they got together. The start was the strongest part, the way they portrayed being awkward around one another but still having giddy, cute moments was great. It’s kinda like Vice Versa in the sense that it’s a fun show to binge but you mustn’t think while doing so.

After watching 2 episodes of Minato’s Laundromat, I got distracted and watched  The 354 Squad’s reaction to Squid Game on Oct 10 and 11. Sigh, it’s just a good show that I loved. TODO Gotta find that Squid Game fanartist who drew sooo well and gave me some favourite Sangwoo fanart. Update: Unfortunately despite downloading my Twitter archive, I couldn’t find it in my retweeted media nor could I find it in my likes after scrolling down to around Oct 10, 2021. Very frustrating and sad, I think the artist maybe deleted
Minato Shouji Coin Laundry (Minato’s Laundromat)
Country: Japan
Release Dates: Jun 29, 2022 - Sep 14, 2022
Dates Watched: Oct 10 - 17, 2022
Rating: 5.5/10
Watched Via: GagaOolala (paid, so :>)
General Thoughts: I am who I am meaning my fave character is Sakurako, Shin’s younger sister, who is soo cute, a little doll. Also, Shin’s actor has suchhhh a beautiful face :0 I wish I felt more for this but I don’t. My comment from ep 5 is still true at the end “tbh i don’t have much to say about this show like it’s fine, it’s handling the age gap interestingly, it’s very slice of life, Shin is very beautiful, I’m a little bored.” I’m not even invested enough to feel anything about the characters’ actions even though I feel like I should have loads of thoughts. I think I get bored with longer Japanese shows, the next few will be movies, so maybe I’ll like them more?

PARTNER IN CRIME - YINWAR - a concert trailer that’s a heist bl and is directed by P’Jojo ahh
No Touching At All
Country: Japan
Release Dates: May 25, 2014
Dates Watched: Oct 18, 2022
Rating: 7/10
Watched Via: Youtube
General Thoughts: Watched it at the perfect time to give me brainworms with its tropes and dynamics. Whenever it’s boss/employee, it’s often like young CEO and an intern or their secretary (at least in the fics), so it’s great fun when it’s like regular ass job with raw, jaded people. yknow I like that this movie has so many longshots and still shots. the actors have to work double time with their body language (bc we can see their whole bodies) + their voices because we’re not getting their facial expressions as closely. I think my only major criticism of this is just that the last big conflict and reason for breakup was different instead of transferring + shima thinking tugowa. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it itched the same part of my brain that AO3 fics often do. Girl it had me writing down every scene in the live blogging at one point bc it was all doing smth that i loved.

I’ve been reading a whole bunch of VegasPete fics again the past 2 weeks or so. So good
Ai no Kotodama (Words of Devotion)
Country: Japan
Release Dates: Jan 25, 2008
Dates Watched: Oct 20, 2022
Rating: 5/10
Watched Via: Youtube
General Thoughts: agh just today we were talking bout how established relationship shows tend to mostly focus on jealousy/cheating/etc and yeah this movie also just focused so much on unfounded jealousy that it wasn’t fun. It was cute when the two of them were messing around and being chill but it kept being ruined by jealousy like agh
Also Appears In: No Touching At All + Ai No Kotodama Live Blogging
Old Fashion Cupcake
Country: Japan
Release Dates: Jun 13, 2022 - Jul 4, 2022
Dates Watched: Oct 21 - 23, 2022
Rating: 6/10
Watched Via: Viki (free)
General Thoughts: I’m very annoyed, why did I not enjoy that as much as I wanted to? There weren’t any glaring issues I had with anything but I just, once again, did not care. I recently liked No Touching At All with a similar boss/employee dynamic and that one gave me brain worms but this one didn’t make me care at all ?? I really don’t get it. Maybe it was the timing? At least unlike Minato’s Laundromat (which I also should’ve really liked), I didn’t wanna DNF this nor did I have to resort to almost 2x speed because of boredom.

Dates Watched: Oct 23 - 25, 2022

Watched Via: GMMTV Youtube (free)
General Thoughts: definitely got the early BL vibes. I guess this probably stood out a lot more when it was released but I was bored as hell and didn’t care about anything/anyone. I wanted to give it a watch because P’Aof said he put a lot of personal experiences when he wrote this + I wanna finish up Our Skyy but yeah, idc and don't care to watch Our Skyy either
He She It
Country: Thailand
Release Dates: Oct 31, 2019 - Jul 1, 2020
Dates Watched: Oct 27 - 30, 2022
Rating: 6/10
Watched Via: Youtube (free)
General Thoughts: my BL for the spooky season! I was spoiled for the major plot point (Jeff kills Gameplay in a pool) and the OST Comedy but didn’t know about anything else. Something about low budget shows I love is how raw and real it feels sometimes, like the “She” episode’s beginning while hanging out with friends and then Mike and Peam hanging out are just such good scenes. They feel like a college student’s project but that makes it realer and idk a different kind of feeling to more polished and higher budget shows but still good in a different way. Part 3 initially confused in regards to Part 1′s but I rewatched it (I originally watched that on the 27th before watching the rest on 30th) and rewatching that definitely helped. To me, it seems like Part 2 happened, Peem just disappeared and nobody knew why or that he was dead (thus the actor teacher’s questions about what’s wrong and Mike being like aw why’d you disappear in the skit), the skit was paralleling Mike/Peem’s current situations (Peem disappeared, Peem ~almost~ drowning) but also maybe Mike’s wishes (him confessing, him saving Peem)? Then, when they kiss, the drowning aspect is also passed onto Mike and that’s when he maybe realizes Peem’s a ghost and between this scene and part 3 is when people figure out that Peem’s dead or something. Although the last part when the teacher and the students all were smirking and were acting fishy at the end while Mike was hyperventilating was sus and I couldn’t understand that beyond them thinking Mike’s doing this for attention.
Not currently watching anything but probably gonna watch a bunch of Thai stuff + some Taiwanese stuff next month and then in December gonna rewatch my faves, along with any airing shows (like GAP)

180 Degree Longitude Passes Through Us - Episode 6
Right at the beginning we enter with In, who is lying on the sofa and has been sleeping, holding in his hand the book "The Naked Philosophy". The book itself is not about naked philosophers, but about showing your innermost self, tearing down the walls and taking off the masks to show the other person the real you. If you have seen the episode, you can see this as foreshadowing. Because in the course of the episode, In exposes his demons and tells Wang about his fears and why he thinks he is a bad person.
We go on to lunch. I don't think In wanted to make sexual innuendos with the chopsticks. He has been too put, too absorbed in the philosophical question of whether love is political and why it is not only the two lovers who are involved in the relationship. While for Wang it is quite clear that a relationship is something very intimate between two people and none of the outside world's business, for In love between two people is something that can also affect and hurt others. Both speak from the different experiences they have already made and from how they perceive the world.
Wang takes the chopsticks and transforms the explanatory method about the politics of love into something very sexual, something very private, which at this moment is also only meant for In. In understands him quite well, which is easy to see from the way he reacts to it. On the one hand he is slightly shy and slightly amused, but on the other hand he also smiles at Wang for his advances and for the intensity with which Wang feels. In himself has distanced himself from his feelings, buried them far in the past, because he is afraid that if he allows himself to feel and love again, this grief and suffering will come back to haunt him. His view of everything is that of a philosopher, very theoretical. The following dialogue, why In does not continue eating, since he liked it, also illustrates this fear. In replies that he is afraid he might like the food too much. Of course he means Wang, and of course Wang knows that too. It is In's subtle hint that he is interested in Wang, but that fear still prevails.
Most of the episode then consists of him telling Wang about his father. It becomes clear that he blames himself for Siam's death. Not only that. He blames himself for all the misfortunes that have befallen the family, that they have not been happy, that Wang no longer has a father, that Siam has not been able to cope with his life. On the night of his graduation, Siam didn't want In to leave him, he wanted him to stay with him, to celebrate with him, and In practically pushed him into the arms of Sasiwimol. He had wanted for Siam to lead a happy, a normal life. The internal homophobia that has consumed In has made him think that his feelings are wrong, that he must suppress them, that they were not allowed and acted out even though he must have felt that Siam loved him just as much. But he tried to see Siam only as the big brother and his highly praised idol.
Even when Siam reveals himself to him, bares his innermost being before In, the latter pushes him away. And he has never forgiven himself. He has carried the guilt of rejecting his best friend, the love of his life, until this moment. He took it with him abroad when he began to study there and he carried it with him when he decided to live the life of a hermit. He has built himself a prison in solitude with these demons of the past. And now Wang, who is the image of his father, sits opposite him and through the narratives past and present blur together. Overcome by grief, he addresses Wang as Siam and Wang responds as he thinks he should and forgives him. He knows that In needs closure to start over, to accept Wang and his own feelings for him in his life. And he also reaffirms to In that Siam loved him. Something In has not been able to say throughout the narratives. It remains unclear what exactly Siam and In talked about that night. And yet the audience and Wang know exactly what was said. And we can see how much Siam must have loved In by the fact that he named his son Wang (engl. for Longitude). His great dream was to travel with In from the North to the South Pole, as he later wanted to do with his son. But even when naming his son, his thoughts were on the person and memories that made him happy, which was In.
And I respect the show so much for not having a kiss or any other intimate interactions. Wang confesses his love along with the assurance that Siam loved him. It is a tricky situation. Entangled in the clutches of the past, In cannot distinguish the present from the past. He cannot think clearly and should there be a physical approach between the two, he should be in full possession of his senses. It should be clear that he wants to be with Wang and not with Siam.
And what could be more fitting as an interruption than a call from Sasiwimol? The disruptive factor she already was with In and Siam. And for In a good opportunity to continue to repress and hide his feelings. Because of her, he didn't have to face his feelings for a long time, and now she again plays the role of the border between two lovers. While In, Siam and also Wang dream or dreamed of crossing borders, of travelling from north to south, she wanted stability, wanted to build borders and separate the people she loves from the outside world. She is trapped in her egocentricity just as In is trapped in his loneliness and Wang is trapped in his desire to be free. They symbolise Freud's structural model of the psyche.
In represents the super-ego, which is the moral principle, the values and norms of the family and society that form a personality. It evaluates and censors. It is the philosopher of the round. Sasiwimol, on the other hand, is the Ego. She is the one who carries out rational decisions. She has to be in control. She evaluates reality and can build defences. She lives in reality and adapts to circumstances. Her marriage breaks down, she has to adapt and find defence mechanisms to suppress the real reasons. She can create her reality. And Wang represents the Id. The unconscious pleasure principle. The drives and needs are reflected in him. He is freedom from social norms and evaluations and lives in the here and now. He wanted to find In and has found a way. He unabashedly shows In what he wants from him and what his needs are.
And we see this construction of the figures later in the depiction of loneliness. More on that in a moment. Let's return to the phone call.
Sasiwimol wants to hear from her son how proud he is and that his world revolves around her too. Since her people are not celebrating with her, she calls her son, notes how much she wants to celebrate with him and does not realise how hurt Wang is. Not one word did she address to him in the acceptance speech. Not one thought did she spare for him. And yet, when no one else is there to praise her, she tries to fall back on him. But Wang is busy, has no time for her and her desire for recognition. But the phone call has led to In arriving back in the present. Wang's next approach is blocked by him and he asks Wang to be alone for a bit. There is a difference between being alone and being lonely. What follows is a montage of the three in their different stages.
Tumblr media
In in his life, which is determined by morals and values, he is once again in his cell of self-imposed solitude. But something has changed; with Wang entering his life, he is no longer lonely behind his bars as before. He is also on a plot of land together with Wang. Both are physically separated from each other, but not emotionally. And so In himself is not totally trapped behind the bars. Wang shows him affection that he has forbidden himself for years and slowly the wall around him begins to collapse and cannot be rebuilt. He has shown Wang his innermost demons. He has made himself vulnerable, has let Wang into his loneliness and, by choosing to show him this side of himself, has taken away the distance.
Tumblr media
Sasiwimol, on the other hand, sits in her hotel room, shut off from everything else. She has her trophies, but no one to share this joy with. Almost lost, she sits on the couch and looks around the room. This is not how she had imagined it. She is not only alone, she is lonely. She has created this reality for herself, by her actions and, if necessary, by limiting the super-ego and the Id in her life. She has been rational and focused on success, muting the desires of her heart, and her morals have rendered her insensitive to the love that surrounds her. Basically, her pursuit of success has cut her off from her own personality - a new kind of loneliness, not even with herself can she find peace. What she really wanted to be was a mother and a housewife. She wanted to get love and give love. She wanted to sit in her own nest with the love of her life. Instead, she sits in an impersonal hotel room, far from the familiar figures of her life.
Tumblr media
Wang, driven by the desire to be free, sits under the open sky. He has no limits. He is young, the world is open to him and his thoughts and ideas are just as open. His desires and urges shape his thoughts and actions. His mother's upbringing and his father's early death have made him lonely, but unlike the other two, he strives for union, for human contact and love, and has not yet built up inner barriers that prevent him from coming to the fulfilment of his desires.
In the last scene we have the bridge again. The symbol of crossing lines, crossing boundaries, reaching out to each other. They both look at the other side, the dark side, the dangerous side, the side of feelings and desire. In sits there, staring into nothingness. He has said everything, perhaps too much already. He has retreated back into himself, the guilt and grief once again taking hold of him. He seems overwhelmed by his own emotions, by the power they still have over him, but also by Wang's feelings for him and the confidence with which he can express them to him. In had taken off his masks, had made himself naked, had shown Wang his demons and now, through his silence, he is trying to put them back on. He needs to shut down his emotions again, needs to rebuild his wall. But when Wang threatens to leave his world, In cannot allow this to happen. In crosses his self-painted line, his boundary, and reaches for Wang's hand. Without words he asks him to stay, to build this bridge together, so that it becomes stable enough to cross.
And then they are on the same line, understand each other and their movements become one.

Currently watching - August
Because I love a good little list 😊
Regularly updated during the month - colored = finished
Currently airing
180 degree longitude passes through us (3/8)
Damn, THIS IS SO GOOD. The cinematography, the acting, the relationships, the tension. I am blown away! Episode 3 delivered and I am here for it. If it goes this way I can tell it will be in my top watches of 2022.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo (12/16)
I love this so much! I love the character growth in so many of them. I guess like the most of us I just adore Lee Jun-Ho. He is a walking green flag! This is such a great series! Damn, my days have simply too few hours!
The Eclipse (3/12)
Ayan is so sassy and Akk is already so confused. I enjoy their progress with each other very much. The story so far is really good and I can't wait for the next episodes!
Vice Versa (6/12)
This is something else. Love the whole different universe thingy and I think the main couple really do have chemistry with each other. The concept of time is something else in this series...I haven't any clue that they are in this universe for a whole fucking year! What the...? But I enjoy this series and its color concept very much!
About Youth (2/10)
First episode made me tear up...I would say this is a good start for a really great and emotional connection to this series. Yeah, I like this one a lot.
Love in the air (2/13)
Hm...I am not sure after the second episode. People who are triggerd by sa or the hints of it...stay away? My moral compass might be a bit of, but so far I can not really enjoy it?
Takara-kun to Amagi-kun (2/8)
The second episode was so much better! I couldn't stop smiling because they're just adorable together.
What if (3/5)
Sometime a low budget drama is just perfect at the end of the day. The friendship in this feels real and so does the relationship between Smart and Peach. The episodes are very short, so you can't do much wrong watching this one.
Coffee Melody (7/10)
Update from the update...It is boring...Duan Yi is very self-centered...he is bland...the lack of chemistry is astonishing...I can't see any plot or progress. At this point (ep 7) it is just painful to watch.
Unforgotten Night (10/12)
Hell yeah! And with hell I literally mean hell! This is a very special series whose depiction of a whip-wielding “dom” will never leave my memory. If you like trash, go for it!
Mama Gogo (2/10)
There are too many series on the side to satisfy my need for second-hand embarrassment that I've neglected Mama Gogo a bit. There are sexy dancing men...so I will definitely keep watching, really!
Minato Shouji Coin Laundry (10/12)
The story of a coin laundry owner becoming friends with a high-school student and we have to wait where this is going. Well acted and kind of cute so far. The tension!!!! Damn!
War of Y (4/20)
This is a strong one. It is a slap in the face for the industry and the audience. Watching it doesn't make you feel comfortable and I enjoy it very much.
On Cloud Nine (4/6)
This had a strong start. I like the atmosphere and the scenery. All those flowers and the emptyness. I have my thoughts about all of this, but I keep them quiet for now.
My only 12 % (2/14)
Not quite sure about this one. The first episodes were kind of...boring?
Already broadcasted series
Finished in August
Series
Love Mechanics (10/10)
Okay, this series has its flaws. Do I care? Not at all. I love it. I am obsessed with War's acting and Yin's progress. I don't care about cheating storylines as long as they make sense to me. I love the chemistry, I love the angst and I love their love for each other. 10 out of 10 painful moments
SOTUS S (13/13)
Oh I liked it. And I like the character of Arthit. He is a small, insecure bean and I want to give him a hug and tell him everything will be alright. Kong still can be a little bit to much for me. 8 out of 10 pink milks
The Novelist (6/6) + Spring Life
Exactly what I expected. It is no high romantic bl. It is a high heat boys lust drama. I liked the concept and the story and the acting is really fine. It has its flaws, but I can live with them. 8 out of 10 erotic novels
21 Day Theory (4/4)
This was a cute one. Short but it still managed to transport everything it wanted to tell us. I especially liked the coming out to the family and the friends. And the ending? Sweeeet! 9 out of 10 pastries
Even Sun (6/6)
First I thought I don't get the point, but after reading some comments I realised there was no point in this. The story was...wait, what story? Yes, the ending was cute, but the rest felt rushed and with too many plot holes. 4 out of 10 plot holes
Senpai, Danjite Koidewa! (8/8)
Hm. In the end, it didn't leave a bigger impression than I initially thought. It was a cute story, but the last two episodes were...kind of off. Like they needed some kind of conflict but couldn't come up with anything that would fit the story. 6,5 out of 10 shy smiles
Dark Blue and Moonlight (12/12)
I am just happy I finished it. It was bad. In the end I don't know what the point of all this was. The story got repetitive in the end...they break up, they make up, oh they break up, wait no, they didn't break up in the first place. It is just messy af! This series could have ended after five or six episodes. Yeah, not a fan. 3,5 out of 5 "break ups"
History 2: Right or wrong (4/4)
It took me some time to like Shi Yi Jie. Adored the daughter and her relationship with Fei Sheng Zhe. The story is ok. The character growth is there and I appreciated it. Nothing to rewatch, but nice to watch on a rainy afternoon. 7 out of 10 Egg Fried Rice
History 2: Crossing the line (4/4)
Love it. Great story, lovable characters and a lot of sports. I like the arc of the main and the kind of natural way the two protagonists become closer over time. 9,5 out of 10 volleyballs
History 3: Make our days count (10/10)
Okay, my softspot was without a doubt the side couple. Thomas Chang is just beautiful and I loved every scene he was in. And I don't have a problem with the ending...I am sorry, but I think it was well done and it works with what the series wants to tell us: cherish every moment and make every single day count, because life is short in the and. 8,5 out of 10 shower scenes
See you after quarantine? (10/10)
This was cute. Something different because of the way it was filmed. I liked the characters and the short (very short) episodes. Nothing special and still something to feel good about. 8,5 out of 10 S21
Add*cted (15/15)
What the toxic fuck was that? Don't get me wrong. I liked it. It was, most of the times, well acted and the story was quite nice, but damn those two are toxic as fuck. And yes, it looks like I threw my moral compass overboard a long time ago. 7 out of 10 toxic traits
My Secret Love (12/12)
A sweet college-BL with a little bit of cringe about a forced BL-couple. Main couple had a high cringe rate for me personal. They were cute, but a little stiff. Secondary couple is an established couple with its own problems and very touchy. Liked their dynamic. Third couple...never thought this one would end up being my favorite, but they are so cute! Adorable! Over all it wasn't something that blew my mind. It was good for a one-time-watch. 7 out of 10 youtube channels
I promised you the moon (5/5)
Still, I can't stand Teh's character. He's just an asshole whithout empathy (in my opinion). He hurts the people around him and in the end he is the victim. No sir...Don't like this attitude and your apologies don't help. But I enjoy Oh-aew and his journey to his true self. I have dearly wished for a happy ending for Oh-aew and Q. I have to say, I didn't like Teh in ITSAY, but here...I truly disliked him till the end! And he is the reason I can't give it a better grade. Not the cheating that angers me that much, but the way he thinks he is the center of everyones world. 6 out of 10 self-centred bitches
His Man (11/11)
Korea's first gay dating show. It was great to see them bond with each other, not just romantically, but with cute friendships. The atmosphere was really good most of the times. Two people found each other and it was quite cute to watch. The fandom, especially on twitter, was toxic af which was very unpleasent. There was so much hate for real people...viewers treated them as couples from their favorite bl and got angry because the real person ddn't act as a fake character but as a real person...and the production played along. I love this show for the particiants and for that 10 out of 10 but the production needs to fix the misleading shit they cme up with! 10 out of 10 for the eight beautiful men
Check Out (12/12)
This was bad. The amount of times I shouted at my screen and asked him what the hell was going on is way too high for 12 episodes. The story is messy as hell. The acting is...not good. The plot...what plot? They could have handled the story in one or two episodes. The characters are unlikable. I thought Tee deserved better, but after the last episode? Honey, you're not better than anyone else. Yeah, glad it is over...Can't recommend it. 1 out of 10 unnecessary drama
Short films
The Immeasurable (Taiwan)
I like it. Don't read the synopsys on gagaoolala if you don't like spoilers. I enjoyed the chemistry between the two protagonists, I like the aunt and I do like the story. I like that it is shows how fragile a relationship can be if you don't talk and don't listen even though you have a strong physical bond. 8,5 out of 10 baskeball courts
I'll be with you (South Korea)
Short film about a funeral and the way people deal with it and how little we actual now about others. The ending was unexpected and sweet. It was a good, short watch. 7 out of 10 black suits
Tidal (Taiwan)
This was painful and heartbreaking to watch. I liked it (well, no shit, I like pain...). Once again, if you don't like spoilers keep away from the synopsys...and I guess from my opinion too...damn... 7,5 out of 10 marbles
