For those keeping track, lol, I watched History 2: Right or Wrong, and I LOVED IT. It's exactly what I wanted it to be. The age thing was not an issue for me (though no one, and I mean no one, questioned that this guy's student was also his nanny? Or that he was eventually dating said student? It's not an issue for me, but I felt like it should be an issue for someone? Lol)
As far as Taiwanese BL recs go, I've been told to watch Be Loved in House I Do, Plus and Minus, and Mt Tooth Your Love. Anyone who wants to chime in with other Taiwanese recs, please do!

Recs for Uni or HS BLs where studying impacts plot
Tumblr media
My ask box is bonkers, sometimes I get a message in email saying someone asked a question and then when I check on the hellsite itself, it's gone... (What does this MEAN?)
Anygay...
@sagi-kari asked a question:
Do you have any recs for Uni or HS BLs where the main focus is studying or study related (they have to actually do the thing). Like LITA with Rain's studies being a caveat to their relationship or Big Dragon with Mangkorn's New York internship/job idr.
Basically, the study needs to be an important thing to the narrative.
This is a doozie and I'm only gonna rec stuff I rated over 8/10
University & HS BL Revolving Around Study
Tumblr media
Semantic Error - class conflict is the inciting event, and this is one of my favorite BLs of all time. So yeah, it tops the list. I am assuming you have watched it because EVERYONE must watch this little pice of perfect. Full review here.
Blueming - the school project is the source of the conflict, this is a complicated chewy very thoughtful BL, longer than normal for Korea. If you enjoy things like The 8th Sense you might like this. Full review here.
Love Class - the whole show is about a manufactured relationship as part of a social science class experiment. Full review here.
You Make Me Dance - I mean it's a dance major so no actual book study but yeah, it's there he has to win a dance scholarship as a main part of the plot. I've never done a full review of this, and frankly that's an oversite. Time for a rewatch?
Tumblr media
HIStory 2: Right or Wrong - it's about a teacher student relationship so...
Addicted: Heroin - especially the first half, I know what you're thinking, but also, THINK about it. It's all within a class from environment for most of the first 6 eps. I believe it counts. This is, without question, the best BL China has ever produced. FIGHT ME.
Destiny Seeker - an under appreciated pulp that is basically predicated on the university sorting hat. I have great affection for this hot mess, including all the sides. Mostly takes place within and around the complexities of dorm life. Full review here.
Kiss Me Again series (BL cut) + Dark Blue Kiss (AKA the PeteKao series staring TayNew) - it's not necessarily a driver but engineering and study is actual integral in a setting as character kind of way. And there is a lot of "make-out while studying." Plus we in the TayNew renauances and I have great affection for their original series. Everyoen shoudl watch it. Here's the watch guide.
HS BL - not exactly study, but sorta & they really good
Light On Me - Another one of my absolute favorite BLs, but it's about the school government club, not actual study. Full review here.
Love Sick - if you count club activities. I just got a full load up of this series with new subs, so I was going to do a watch along in honor of 2024 (its 10th anniversary). I am still considering it.
My School President - also, if you count extra-curricular & club activities. Another BL that i absolutely adore. No full review but I did have a long discussion on how this plays into Thailand's new norm in BL here.
Takara & Amagi - ugh I love this show so much but it's more about popularity and social acceptance in HS than studing, full review here.
About Youth - if you count external parental pressure to over achieve, another underappreciated gem, this time for Taiwan. Full review here.
I dithered...
Bad Buddy - maybe, I mean departmental conflict is a large part of the story, plus high school back story club activities, but there is very little study. Full review here.
Tumblr media
Please feel free to add more on a RP or in comments, but remember my codicil was I have to have personally rated it over 8/10 so your baby might not be on here because it wasn't to my personal taste.

For me the best May/December romances have come from the HIStory franchise. Make Our Days Count is probably the best-done example of the trope I've personally seen in BL, but whenever I get a chance to plug Right Or Wrong I will 100% take it so that is my answer.

Sorry to bother you but how/where do you watch these Asian bl dramas? I'm very interested but have no idea where to go!
A lot of the Thai stuff produced by GMMTV, Star Hunter, and Studio Wabi Sabi is distributed internationally for free on YouTube with English subtitles. Some good Asian LGBTQ dramas to watch on YouTube are: Not Me, Bad Buddy, 3 Will Be Free, Theory of Love, Lovely Writer, He's Coming to Me, A Tale of a Thousand Stars, and Cutie Pie. (Look them up on mydramalist.com to see if they're potentially your jam, or check out my tags.)
In addition to YouTube, there are four main Asian streaming platforms available in the US. You can have free accounts with all of them, though most newer content (and the most popular content) requires a small monthly subscription fee.
IQIYI is Chinese owned and carries a lot of C-dramas, though they seem to be branching out with the desire to compete internationally with Netflix. I don't usually keep my subscription to it active, and I only subscribe to it while binging a particular drama. It is currently airing the Thai mafia drama Kinnporsche the Series: La Forte, which is so freaking good that I'm actually keeping my subscription active while the show is airing a new episode each week.
Viki is Japanese owned and carries a shit ton of Korean dramas, in addition to some Taiwanese, Japanese, Chinese, and Thai dramas. I always keep my subscription to it active, much like Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime, although a lot of the LGBTQ content is free and doesn't require a subscription. I just can't imagine not having it. Some good Asian LGBTQ dramas to watch on Viki are: Semantic Error, History 2: Crossing the Line, History 2: Right or Wrong, History 3: Trapped, History 3: Make Our Days Count (but skip the last episode!), My Love Mix-Up (Kieta Hatsukoi), and Be Loved in House I Do.
WeTV (Tencent) is another Chinese owned platform that I only sporadically subscribe to when I want to binge something. It mostly has C-dramas and stuff from Taiwan, but occasionally they pick up other stuff too. Some good Asian LGBTQ dramas to watch on WeTV are: We Best Love No. 1 for You and it's sequel We Best Love Fighting for Mr 2nd, and Manner of Death.
Finally, Gagaoolala is an exclusively queer streaming platform from Taiwan, and they have recently been picking up so much new content from across Asia that I always keep my subscription to it active. Some good Asian LGBTQ dramas to watch on GaGa are: Long Time No See, Pornographer and it's Prequel Pornographer: Indigo Mood, His, Mr Unlucky Has No Choice but to Kiss, Plus & Minus, DNA Says Love You, My Ride, and Paint With Love.
Hope that helps! Please note that this is by no means an exhaustive list of recommended dramas, just a few of my favorites so you can get your feet wet!

First the cast of History: Trapped have a get together with the main couple from Right or Wrong. Then Han Gi Chan and Jang Eui Soo link back up to hang out. NOW Joo Hyuk Joon and Kang Eun Bin from Blueming have been spotted catching up. WHAT IS GOING ON?

BL ~ Drama Asks
Tagged by @biwichapas over two weeks ago (!) but thank you for thinking of me!
1. If you had to watch one drama forever what would it be?
This is too hard...maybe one of either Bad Buddy, To My Star (1&2), or HIStory 3: Trapped.
2. If you could change the ending of a drama which one would it be?
I have to say HIStory 3: MODC, of course, but maybe controversially I'd change He's Coming to Me. Hear me out: I cried. I cried SO MUCH when I thought Mes and Thun weren't going to get a HEA. I mean, it made sense... Mes was a ghost and Thun a human...how would this work? But the series handled that journey of grief really well so by the end I could accept it. BUT then they brought Mes back. Now, it would have worked if either a) he didn't come back at all and Thun could move on, fallen in love with someone else, and forever savoured that memory, or b) if Mes had come back as a human again - then they could have had a proper life together. As it was, coming back as a ghost still, there is an inevitability that their time together will end at some point when Mes does have to leave. I don't know... I was left unsatisfied because it was only a HFN.
3. Name your favorite drama and tell who your favorite character was.
The series currently top of my top ten list is Bad Buddy...so I should say that. Favourite character...ah this is hard...Pran? Maybe...
4. Name a drama you dropped within the first few episodes ~ we all have at least one!
Tharntype 2 (I just couldn't...), Peach of Time (partly availability issues, partly the prospect of not getting a HEA), Top Secret Together (it just got bad but I think it was a victim of the pandemic), and I have started Coffee Melody but don't know if I'll finish (It's slow and I don't have time for things that don't grab me).
5. Name a popular drama you’ve never watched and why?
I Told Sunset About You (and I Promised You the Moon). First it was availability issues, then I felt a bit wiggy about watching it because a) the characters are so young and b) I had heard it was a bit to 'real' for some people and I just didn't want to go through the angst.
6. Name a drama you regret watching.
I don't regret anything I've watched. I would have stopped watching anything that may have ended up being a 'regret watch'...so I guess I could just repeat those.
7. Name a drama you thought you’d never watch but did and did you end up liking it?
HIStory 2: Right or Wrong. It took me a while because I wasn't sure about the student/teacher dynamic...but it's a great series and the age gap/potential for abuse of power was dealt with well enough.
8. Name a pairing you want to see?
Well, I've been wanting to see Poppy in a lead for a long time and I have already suggested a polyship with him and the two Perths...but actually, thinking about it, I want to see TONG and POPPY together. Both EXCELLENT goofy/character actors but I believe could pull off something more mature and dramatic. So, yeah, them.
9. Name a pairing you didn’t think had chemistry?
Maybe controversial but I don't really think Jimmy and Tommy have chemistry, certainly not as Saifah and Zon in Why R U?
10. Name a pairing you have seen in another drama that you like?
I presume this means in a drama I haven't seen...but if I like the pairing I probably would have seen the series, so I don't really have an answer. Instead, I'll offer a few secondary pairings who I would like to see lead a series (the actors or the characters): Pitch and Bank from Golden Blood, Jack and Zhao Zi from HIStory 3: Trapped, and of course Ram and King from My Engineer.
Tagging @jemmo @liyazaki @taytawan @minhhyung @pranpats and @laowen if you haven't done it and feel like having a go...or anyone else who wants!

Hii
Thank you for so much info and effort in your posts ✨
I have a question: which couples (main or not) feature men with facial hair?
Facial Hair in BL
OMG that is a so rare and I have never gotten this ask before.
I'm posting an answer but this is something I do not track, so I will need help. Keep an eye on the comments for the ones I missed.
BL's with facial hair
HIStory 2: Right or Wrong - this is an age gap romance and I suspect it was done, in part, to age up the protag, this is usually contrary to BL casting needs.
Tumblr media
The Immeasurable (Taiwan), but that's a short.
I Feel You Linger in the Air, briefly and badly. Keep Thailand away from fake hair in general (their wig game is atrocious).
Tumblr media
Present Perfect, but it's kinda for travel reasons.
Tumblr media
Tonhon Chonlatee the sides. Man has it been a long time since I thought about that BL. (Did GMMTV let Mike have facial hair in 2gether too? I can't remember.)
Tumblr media
Given's sides. Although nothing much happened with them.
Tumblr media
Ossan's Love (SIGH) the love triangle
Tumblr media
I feel like I have a memory of Earth, of EarthMix having fuzz on his face at some point. Seems like a sin since his angles are so good.
Our Days maybe?
The coach in the original Waterboyy? But do we want to remember (or even think about) that?
More?
Korea is mildly obsessed with jaw lines so I highly doubt we will ever get it from them, unless they go for a true BL historical. Even then it will be a side and they rarely do sides... so unlikely.
So far as I know, nothing from Vietnam. But one of the first Tein installments might have had something in an alt timeline.
Philippines is not unlikely. In fact, if I missed any major ones it's probably from there.
BL facial hair right now?
The sides in My Dear Gangster Oppa.
Upcoming Taiwanese BL VIP Only looks like is has a main with facial hair.
I mean there are some wisps on Jimmy in Last Twilight but do we call that facial hair or laziness?
Which should tell you this post is dated late 2023 and may not be updated after that date.

Can I ask you a general BL question? We know that BL don't necessarily handle the LGBTQ issues correctly. From what I have seen there is recent change in this from the show makers. We see efforts towards this being made by production houses like KinnPorsche for example. So my question to you is 1. Are there any particular issues or LGBTQ representations you would like to see 2. Did you like any particular LGBTQ issue handle well in any of BLs you saw till now?
You can ask me anything anon. I'll try to answer to best of my capability.
When you say LGBTQ issues it's a huge umbrella term. Personally I think BL medium is not meant to be the mirror of our society with LGBTQ struggles and existence.
BL is kind of a dream world, they are essentially soaps where you forget the real world problems while watching them. And as a LGBTQ person myself I am thankful and appreciate it so much. We need all kind of stories to be told in gay. So in a way it's doing it's job of giving feel good gay stories to people who find them as a safe space. That being said, personally I would definitely like if we get feel good shows with real stories and meat, showcasing LGBTQ struggles.
For your first question let me think. May be I would like more of trans representation, not just as few side support characters but a main character who's story revolves around transition.
Oh yes and one other thing I would die for and have never seen represented in any media is of a bisexual person starting out as gay but later realising they are bi. I don't know how it will work out in BL because then there has to be a female lead for that. It's my personal story and I would like it to be represented some where any where. It's doesn't cost me for dreaming 🤷
For your second question from whatever BLs I saw till date I don't remember any ground breaking LGBTQ issues represented other than few good coming out sequences
- He's coming to me when he talks with his mom
Tumblr media
- Gameboys Caireel talking to his mom about being gay.
Tumblr media
But one BL which comes to mind that dances around LGBTQ issues or struggles and does a really good job is History 2- Right or Wrong. It's such an underrated BL imo.
Tumblr media
- Shi Yi Jie giving the talk to young lost Xaio Fe
- Mutual physical attraction treated as what it is rather than over exaggerating it just because it's gay.
- Though Xaio fei knows he is gay, he is still reluctant towards PDA or when pitted against female competition, which is understandable.
- Shi Yi Jie asking Xaio Fei whether he does not trust him because he was married to a woman once. Literally this is every bi persons struggle when they are in relationship with a gay person.
- Shi Yi Jie handling the whole return of wife spectacularly and maturely
- Shi Yi Jie telling Yo Yo she can't marry Xaio Fei because he promised to marry her dad. And then proceeding to answer all her questions frankly.
This BL had all of the above and so much more. It's really worth a watch.

If you haven't watched it yet, deffo watch HIStory 3: Trapped. Its a Taiwanese drama that's enemies to lovers between a mob boss and a cop, and the b plot romance (also BL) is so sweet and adorable. Would not reccomend anything else in the HIStory series, it doesn't match up.
Oh I have! It's one of my favorites. I gave it 3 stars.
I keep a massive spreadsheet with all the shows I ever watch with ratings and notes. My rating system is pretty simple.
1 star= I didn't like it or didn't finish it.
2 stars= It's good, and I didn't regret watching it. I'd recommend it, but I'll probably never rewatch it.
3 stars= It's great. I loved it, and I'll definitely re-watch it.
4 stars= It's off the charts perfect. I have zero criticisms of it, and I'll happily rewatch it multiple times.
I re-watched History 3: Trapped again a few months ago and died laughing. I had forgotten how genuinely funny it was!
I actually quite like a few of the History series. History 2: Right or Wrong got 3 stars from me. I liked the domesticity of the single father professor dating his younger male nanny a lot. History 2: Crossing the Line got 2.5 stars. And History 3: Make Our Days Count would have gotten 3 stars if it weren't for the last episode, so it's sitting at 2.5 stars because I actually do rewatch it sometimes. I just have literally never re-watched the last episode. In my head, the story ends after the main couple moves in together. Even History 4: Close to You is at 2 stars because I'm a sucker for the pretend relationship trope.

Hey, do you know some bl‘s who maybe aren‘t so popular to watch? Cause i almost watched all i ever heard of….😂 also i just watched the latest episode of my fav bl (about a love triangle) and my fav ship got destoyed…i need something for my pain 😔😔
Sure I can give it a shot! Idk what you've seen so far but these are some of the dramas I rarely hear talked about.
Takumi-Kun the Series. It's an older Japanese BL so that's probably why no one talks about it. It's basically about a boy named Hayuma Takumi attending a private all boys high school somewhere in the mountains and he's got a phobia of people touching him that stems from past repeated s*xual ab*se from his older brother. He meet Saki Giichi a popular student in the same year who manages to help him get past his phobia and they become a couple. There's 5 movie installments and one of them features a side couple as the mains. I will give a trigger warning for bullying and s*xual ab*se though.
Behind Cut is a Korean BL. It's really cute and I never hear anyone talking about it. It follows up and coming fashion designer Ki Jin as he competes in a competition to launch his line and he enlists the help of a delivery boy named Yeong Woo to become his model during the competition. Naturally love blooms between them but someone else has his eye on Ki Jin as well.
Long Time No See is another Korean BL. It's a bit on the lower budget side but is amazing and thrilling. It follows assassin Chi Soo as he leads a double life taking people out and also writing a thrilling online romance novel. He meets a fan of his novel, Gi Tae, who he is instantly interested it and they fall in love. But can he keep his 2 worlds separate? And also may Gi Tae has his own secrets he's trying to cover up.
History 2: Right or Wrong. It's part of our beloved HIStory franchise. It follows uni student Sheng Zhe who somehow becomes a nanny for one of his professors, Shi Yi Jie. He takes care of YoYo and makes sure the professor is taken care of too and pretty soon they have a cute family dynamic going on BUT there's still an ex-wife trying to insert herself back into the picture.
Gameboys the Series is a Pinoy BL. It's focused around the height of the pandemic and features an interesting setup. Cai is an online gamer that meets a fan named Gav after losing a game to him on live. Watch as their romance blooms through constant video calls and Gav helps Cai deal with his father having COVID and Cai helps Gav feel less alone in the world after losing his beloved Granny.
His the Movie. It's a Japanese BL movie about a man named Shun who lives in seclusion after breaking up with the love of his life Nagisa. One day Nagisa shows up with his young daughter and basically moves in much to Shun's discomfort. Both men realize they of course still love each other but Nagisa has now dragged Shun into an ugly custody battle with his ex-wife. The movie is the followup to His the series where they both meet as 17 yr olds and have a summer beach romance.

Need to talk with just how good the plot of Right or Wrong is from the first episode. Everything makes sense, why Yi Jie leaves Yo Yo alone to care for herself (because this is how he grew up, this is the way he thinks it's normal for kids to grow up), why Xiao Fei is just so angry with him for that and why he accepted pretty much no questions asked to nanny Yo Yo (because he was in Yo Yo's place, a kid whose parent was too busy to spend time with him and he doesn't want Yo Yo to go through what he went throught).
They show these things to us from the first episode, so from then on these two can only grow in their relationship. They know why the other is the way he is, not because they're just bad people, and it's just up from there.
edit:
i love this middle aged man with my whole ass heart god
