Barbatos and Solomon's first meeting and a theory of mine, aka: what if Solomon summoned Barbatos to save his friend?

WARNING: SPOILERS FOR SWD S3 AND NB S1 AHEAD

Okay, so we've had pieces of info about their first meeting for a while now, but after collecting everything I could on these two to make my recent posts I was able to put them together and here it is.

First, there are the two times the story was briefly told in Obey Me! SWD, this one being from lesson 53-16 when Asmo discusses his first meeting with Solomon and then asks Barbatos about his:

And this next one being from lesson 49-A when Asmo asks about it for the first time and Solomon doesn't want to tell him:

And we learn what happened in the aftermath from Thirteen when she tells us about it in Obey Me! NB lesson 11-10:

So Solomon risked his life to summon Barbatos using an incantation and was left on the brink of death because of it, all because he "desperately needed his powers to control time", and after their interaction and whatever happened there, Barbatos took him to the Fountain of Knowledge and declared him the new protector of it.

By the way, they didn't make a pact during their first meeting but later on instead, or at least that's what I got from Barbatos saying:

I'm saying this because "eventually" is vague enough to be open to interpretation and could mean that they did make a pact during their first meeting and that it only took some bargaining for Barbatos to agree. But the way I saw it was that the pact was made later on.

So, the questions left unanswered from this are:

1 ) What made Solomon want to control time badly enough for him to seriously risk his life for it?

2 ) Did Barbatos help Solomon by using his powers to control time like he wanted him to?

Because it never says that Barbatos agreed to Solomon's "desperate need", and it doesn't say why Solomon was so desperate for it in the first place, only telling us that there was something he wanted enough to risk death for it.

But it does answer WHY later.

At first I thought we didn't have more info on their first meeting, but then I remembered this little moment from Obey Me! NB ( that I added to my post afterward and here's the screenshot from the post because I was too lazy to open the game and go to the lesson again ):

So Solomon almost died summoning Barbatos because he desperately needed his powers to control time after causing serious destruction to the Human World with his...?

Well, maybe, the passage does say that Barbatos appeared before him and not that he was purposely summoned by him, but it could be that the book is just depicting what people at the time thought happened, since it makes it sound like that was their first meeting when Barbatos himself said that Solomon summoning him was how they first met.

Anyway, let's assume I'm right and that's what happened and the reason why Solomon needed Barbatos was to fix the damage he did to the Human World unintentionally.

THE MAIN THEORY: Solomon summoned Barbatos to save his childhood friend's life, who was affected by Solomon's powers going out of control.

This is something that Solomon tells us in Obey Me! NB lesson 14-16, that he had a friend while he was locked up in the basement as a kid. He tells us the story of how they met and says that from then on the friend started visiting him regularly and that they would chat through the bars of the window basement and that's how their interactions went for however long. But then while telling us about them he suddenly stops:

And thus this became my current theory.

Solomon's powers, which have always vastly surpassed your usual human's, start getting out of control and becomes a threat to the world, endangering one of his loved ones ( much like MC's in S2 with Lucifer ). And desperate to save their life and out of what to do, he summons a demon he knows can control time to help him.

Judging by how Solomon struggles to tell the story to MC though, we can assume that it didn't end well.

Maybe Barbatos refused to save his friend/had no way to do it ( he can only travel through timelines and not actually go back and change the one where he is ) and Solomon had to accept the fact that they were dying and say goodbye and this was the moment when he made this promise to them to become a good sorcerer, learn how to control his powers and protect humanity.

Or maybe Barbatos did try to save them/told Solomon how to do it but it ended badly somehow and that's what brings Solomon pain when he tries to talk about it.

Riko's mouth clamps shut in an instant and Ichirou feels in that moment that there is something that can be taught. "You have heard the saying, Blood is thicker than water, correct?" Ichirou asks as he he inspects the tea placed in front of him with a critical eye. The color is right.

"Yes." Riko answers.

"Then I'm sure you've heard the full quote as well?" Ichirou asks and brings the tea up to his nose. There is nothing wrong in the scent.

"Yes." Riko answers.

Ichirou hands the tea to the side where Connor, his guard, takes it and sips it without hesitation and then Connor walks over to Riko's own cup and tastes it as well. "I do not necessarily agree completely with either of the sentiments." he explains.

i spent all morning looking for the cheapest ways to get to venice next monday and i feel like i've cracked the code or something i think i got it

#i have to talk it with my mum cause she's the one with the money #but i've seen some good ideas #i have 5 options for now #for some reason flights to and from venice from madrid are expensive as fuck #so i'll have to get to another airport first #here are my options. keep in mind the exam i have to take is on monday 10 at 9:30 am. also ideally i wouldn't want to pay a hotel room #in venice. cause they're expensive as fuck #so let's see. you can also help me out all help is welcomed:#option 1. on sunday i get on a train to barcelona. i sleep in bcn (most likely in a hostel at the airport)#and at 6:35 am there's a flight to venice from bcn for 64€#i arrive at 8:25. i go take the exam #and there's another flight off from venice to bcn at 16:45 for 75€#this is the cheapest flight out of venice i could find so this will always be the flight back #and then i arrive at bcn at 18:45 and have cheap trains to madrid at around 20:00 #option 2. i think this is the most likely one. it's similar to the previous one BUT instead of bcn i'd be flying from alacant #why is this important? because i have family there #more precisely my grandpa's sister. who just had a surgery #and my grandma wanted to go visit her. she was literally talking about this two days ago #so. if my mum agrees to it. she could drive us three to alacant on sunday #we would sleep at my great aunt (?)'s place #and then i'd have a flight at 5:45 to venice for 70€#i'll get to venice at 8:00 and then the going home plan is the same #if she doesn't agree i have trains to alacant for 49€. and even if i wouldn't sleep with family (i have tons in alacant not just #the great aunt) hotels are definitely cheaper than in bcn #option 3. there's a flight from santander on sunday 9 for 14€ !!!!!#i could get on a night bus to santander for 71€ and be there at 6:30. the flight is at 10:10 and i would be in venice at 12:15 #i would have to sleep in venice but i think it would compensate for the flight being so cheap #and then you know the drill with the flight to bcn #option 4. this is also quite likely i think this is the cheapest and my favourite i think.#i could fly on sunday to florence from madrid for 54€. i would arrive at florence at 12:15

Adding to the Gravedigger's Envy love! Best statement of season 4! The slow descent to avatar-dom without the person even being truly aware of it, delicious on its own and as a parallel to Jon. And even apart from that, it was an interesting new angle of the Buried that was being explored there.

Other favorites of mine include Piecemeal (Jonny's performance is so fun, and the concept is so perfectly creepy), The Man Upstairs (I don't *like* it, but it's so revolting that it really sticks as one of the most memorable episodes. Now every time I see a stain on the ceiling, it's immediately because the neighbors upstairs must be hammering meat to their walls, and for no other reason.), The Butcher's Window (I really like the scummy detective guy being so exasperated with his dumbass target), Trail Rations, and of course every Elias-centric episode.

oh piecemeal is GREAT. some of the early flesh statements you can tell that the fear was still very ill defined. not quite formed yet in jonny's mind. but i think piecemeal benefits from that, actually, it makes it a stronger one-off to have a random old woman who seems like she might be an avatar but it isn't ever really.... clear. and yes i love jonny's performance of "the very sweary man". it's great. i also love to imagine jon in caanon being like ...what the hell was that? ok anyway.

and i LOVE the man upstairs it's SO great. i remember when i first listened to it that it went in a COMPLETELY different direction from what i had expected and it was so fun. so totally grotesque.

butcher's window is fun because i love jared, and i prefer him doing texas chainsaw stuff rather than more cronenberg stuff. and you're right the statement giver himself being so far removed from the entities involved in the actual statement is SO much fun.

trail rations is a really strong and oft-overlooked historical statement. if you like that episode i really recommend the movie ravenous (1999).

and YES every single elias-centric episode is a gem.
