Reid was never allowed to be angry without being seen as irrational for it and it always pissed me off. In times when he is angry and resentful, he quite often had a reason to be, yet the team, and the fandom, often approached it as if he was simply overreacting
I feel as though the team do it because they view Reid as, for the lack of a better term, emotionally inept. And they were mostly right to, as I’ve said in previous posts, Reid’s upbringing prevented him from getting a lot of the emotional education required and he never had emotionally stable parental figures to follow so it’s easy to see why he was not often able to emote the same as the other team members
But the issue with this is that they mistook his anger as just another extension of his emotional instability instead of viewing it for what it really is; valid. He is allowed to be upset at his team for ignoring his trauma. He is allowed to be upset that his father left him. He is allowed to be upset at his best friend for lying about their other friend’s death. He is allowed to be upset at Cat Adams when she assaults him and then puts his mother in danger. He is allowed to be angry in all of these cases
Yet the team never view it that way; they instead treat him like an angry teenager who needs to be held back and then let go so he can ‘blow off steam.’ They never stop to say ‘oh this man is angry and rightfully so’ ‘oh this man has suffered severely; maybe that’s the cause of his anger and not merely the fact that he is “just upset”’
