Thinking about Odette's ancient form again... I don't think it was Azem but admittedly I don't have much. I know her name is/was Leuce/Leuke and she works under Hades/Emet.

I don't ship Hades/Odette-in-any-form because I just... can't. I like him as a character and I find him interesting in a 'pin him under glass' kind of way. (Odette is a lesbian, also, but I don't think all shards need to have the same sexuality because why would they. But that said I def don't ship Leuke/Hades as it just doesn't satisfy me the way I like ships to) In Greco-Roman mythology, Leuke was a nymph (an Oceanid) that Hades fell in love with and spirited away to the underworld. This feels familiar. When she eventually passes, after her full life, Hades turns her body into a white popular tree in the Elysian Fields. As such, white poplars became a symbol of those we loved who have died as well as hope for a peaceful afterlife. (This is why I mentioned shipping.) I think, rather than Emet-Selch being in love with Leuke he see's her as someone he can groom to be his eventual replacement. Death's apprentice. (Less love, still spiriting away to the Underworld) In current time, Odette's eyes "started out" as an icy blue and as she grew into her abilities as a psychopmp one of them shifted to lavender. Her vision also altered -- I say she can see ghosts and other hidden things and I am beginning to think it's not so different from Hades' soul sight. Albeit a much weaker and less useful version, given the sundered state of it all? I do think Leuce had soul sight, as well, likely part of the reason Hades picks her to work so closely with him. Mayhap it was weak and she spent most of her time trying to find ways to enhance it. As well as any work delegated to her by Emet-Selch, of course. Personality wise I'm still rock tumbling her. I do think she and Emet have a very Uncle/Niece relationship, but also does that make sense for ancients?????? I'm gonna have to do more thinking and reading to really build this. I know I don't want her to be Odette But To The Left.

Jesse and Bojack, during the early stages, were always going to have some sort of dynamic. I mean, you literally had the perfect connection or Aaron Paul playing both Jesse and Todd. But, there are also many interesting similarities between Jesse and Bojack themselves. How they both have addictions and harmful habits. How they were both sent to rehab at the end of a season (BreBa s2 and BJHM s5). How they both had rough upbringings (Bojack a little more so of course). They were gonna be the fucked up besties of the fic.

(Which is funny considering I took both their characters just before they were sent to rehab. So they would be as screwed up as possible for the death game. I’m so evil I know)

I personally enjoyed their development over the course of the story. How Walter’s death kickstarted a mixture of rocky beginnings. How Retsuko’s friendship with Bojack muddied the waters with Jesse and his grief. How the 3rd motive forced them to interact more. How Natsuki slowly began to merge towards them following the death of Yuri and Ena.

I really loved writing their dynamics, from their fights to them just hanging out. The forth case really was a testament to their friendship, and how much Jesse got attached to Bojack. Jesse has a hard time being abandoned by those he loves (ergo Jane’s death canonically) so I really tried to reflect that in his breakdown during the 4th trial. Bojack, to me, had potential to be a good friend towards Jesse, but in his current state, I don’t think he really would’ve been able to unless he really tried to change. That’s why they’re so tragic yaoi (/JJJJJ)

The fact that their friendship was a major focus for the chapter 4 case does kinda make them the ‘sansmaeda’s of DR96 doesn’t it? Haha

Is there an explanation for why he’s so cute here??? He looks both small and delicate, and yet dangerously determined at the same time. Like he could seriously fuck you up with a little pocket knife and some rage, but could be lifted and kept still somewhat easily as well. He also looks very sweet when given a lot of privacy and would secretly love butter cookies. In public he’d be reportedly good at wielding a wrench to fix something.
