I wanna ramble about my original work ocs... Bc its been a while since i talked/thought about them. Let alone drawn any of them.

So ill answer this with my original characters if that alright

i have a bunch of ocs. Many are still in drafts cuz ive been busy with fan works. But i have two to 3 series one i am trying to turn into an animation series (@the-mis-adventurers ) and another that is gonna be a collab comic series with @strawberry-mangoprincess (she's more active one her Insta compared to me lol) one is just merely a fun concept i think about every now and then.

Overall my ocs are inspired by other fictional characters. mainly from whatever media i consume and enjoy.

Starting with the concept one.

I only have two ocs made for it so far. Ember and Crystal. They are sisters with fire and ice elemental powers hence their names. Ember like fire embers and crystal like ice Crystals. Orphans dunno who there parents were. Not clear if their powers ran in the family/curse/etc.

Ember always had trouble controlling her powers especially with having a fiery temper. She's the more friendlier sibling however. Crystal despises her ice powers. She has an easier time hiding them so she can blend in with normal people. (I gotta draw them again sometime)

Crystal doesnt hate her sister but isn't close to her either. Feeling the need to take care of her since she's the last of kin.

And now for my (slightly) more thought out ocs from my wip series, the misadventurers

In a nutshell i want this series to be about the power of friendship (i blame my mlp phase for this-)

There's four main characters. All girls bc why not?

Their names are mink, jing, Raine and jennifer.

Mink is the more calm and responsible one out of her friends. Mom friend type. Her hair was actually blonde but turned pink to unknown reasons. (I took inspiration from lofi music when creating her) She proudly owns a pet turtle named fern. Will kick butt if her friends are hurt.

Jing is a goth who enjoys making music. she plans on startd her own band someday. (Eventually she does with her friends. Its called rock n pop. Pending title for now) has a rivalry with another oc of mines, Lillian. Loves to scare the others with pranks and horror movies.

Raine is the artist of the group. She tends to break the fourth wall whenever she wants. Also whatever she draws with her paint brush becomes real. her name is also a pun. Raine strom. (You can see her on my tumblr header harassing my old sona) Very zany in a good way. Has a crush on a dense boi*

Jennifer is a social butterfly. Heart's too big for her sleeve. Pacifist. Tends to let wild animals in the house. And thats how she got a pet goat who may or may not actually be one. Her mother wishes she'd be more responsible.

Now for some reccuring characters-

Lillian - famous star, used to be childhood friends with jing. And now they hate eachothers guts. Primadonna gurrrrllll. All she ever wanted was the worrrrldddd(Took alot of inspiration from the song for her) is an attention hog and will do anything to be popular.

*Milo - Also known as peppermint boi/j. But seriously look at his color pallet-. He does enjoy mints and always passing one out to people. Very dense and doesn't get when he is getting on someone nerves. Just as zany as raine. Uber positive. Don't let him get too excited tho. Cuz he'll LITERALLY explode.

Cole - college drop out. Wonders why the haystack milo and raine won't leave him be. Also tends to be their third wheel on their 'not' dates. He hates it. Very moody. Legend has it he's never laughed or smiled before.

Derek - just some rich dude. Comes up with so many back stories like Horst from ratatouille so its hard to tell which is fake and what is real. Tries really hard for Jennifer to fall for him but doesn't work out.

I already rambled to you about max and min. Buttt I can tell you a it more about them at least about their absent/missing parents

Thymes (pronounced Times) and Divid are the twins and Equan’s Parents.

They are both scientists who worked for [REDACTED]. Thymes and Divid were both pretty much crazy but in a ‘not so dangerous’ type of way. always ready to invent stuff even if it held no actual purpose.

It did concern them greatly when Equan started going through a Frankenstein phase. At least they assumed it was. Probably didn’t help much they were pretty much working even at home leaving their kids pretty much unattended(And boy oh boy did they learn…)

And sadly disappeared due to unknown circumstances.

1 - Give short descriptions of all your current WIPs.

Shifting Phases (wip, canon chapters not posted yet):

A whump fic centering on Pete, a young belunae, trying to make his way in the world. The night his crush confesses to him marks the time to come tell her the truth, but fate has other plans. The entire affair spirals out of control when hunters capture him, and he has to endure horrors that even other hunters frown on. Will he escape with his life?

Eclipse Descending (working title):

An AU of Shifting Phases in which Pete, a young belunae becomes a hunter. One day, his world is shattered when his love is stolen away, and he is discovered. He learns the true punishment for a hunter like him. Will he survive and save his love?

Satanus Magus (In the planning phase):

Uhh... how to desribe without too many giveaways... im so bad at this lol i tried

Antony lives peacefully in <city> which is ruled by a large, religious organisation with a dark side, and all magic is prohibited.

After his wife is assassinated and he escapes narrowly with his life, his world is turned upside down by new revalations, and he is helped by an excitable streetrat named Imani. Together, they must come to terms with their identities and circumstances, and make the world a safer place and stop the assassins in their tracks.

2 - Give short descriptions of all the main characters for Shifting Phases.

Pete Spencer: a cautious and shy but sweet yong man who carefully hides his belunae status. He is slow to trust, and is very unlucky in that bad things often happen, but lucky in that he could have died, but he didn't. (I suppose whether that's lucky depend son your perspective ;))

He has few friends, but he chose Timmy and Liz carefully. and grew close to them over the course of years. He loans Timmy and Liz his braincell.

Timmy Paige: A charming, rambuncious idiot with a crooked smile and gentle side stemming from his empathic abilities as a belunae. Has to share a single braincell he loaned from Pete with Liz. He is always getting into mischief.

Liz Millen: A roudy young lady who loves life, scrapbooking, art, and her friends. Has to share a single braincell she loaned from Pete with Timmy.

(i lovingly refer to timmy and liz as chaos duo)

Sorrel Johnstone: A self absorbed man who is intent on gaining power and status within his circles as a hunter. He will cut corners and cheat to get what he wants, and he is usually clever enough to avoid getting caught unless his arrogance gets the better of him.

Cole Nelson: A quiet, stoic man, he is strong to provide for his young daughter and provide for his family no matter what his circumstances throw at him. He gains his strength from his abilities as a belunae, but he is never cocky about them, preferring to keep him and his family safe.

I usually do pretty well since I start so broad and then narrow it down 'til it's almost writing. So, I usually stick fairly well to it, but what I do do is edit and change things before it's at the Actual Writing Stage, so I'm not losing whole chunks of my work to the Obsolete Pile.

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do (but - to be honest - it takes me FOREVER). I love comments. It’s so much easier to not leave comments than leave comments, so every time someone leaves one I’m blown away. I feel like - for leaving me a comment - you’re definitely owed an answer! I do apologize that it takes me awhile though - I am very bad at answering because they mean a lot to me and I get easily overwhelmed by the AO3 inbox I don’t know why. Blame anxiety.

What's the fic you've written with the angstiest ending?

I’ll be honest, I don’t like angsty endings so I don’t have many of them. By far the angstiest ending I have is Flowers, Lies, and Forgiveness. This is a Bianca Davri/Varric Tethras fic set during the final act of DA2. I wrote it from Bianca’s POV - showing Varric unraveling under the pressure of Kirkwall and Bianca’s complicated feelings about infidelity to her husband who clearly cares about her as well. I wrote it for @hollyand-writes who always lets me lean into the tragic “fucked upness” of the pairing when I’m feeling like making Varric suffer.

What's the fic you've written with the happiest ending

I prefer happy endings so almost EVERYTHING has a happy ending. My favorite endings, so far, are for Cheating the Dread Wolf, which is my Varric/Cadash/Solas polycule (or as I like to refer to it - Solas has a dwarf kink) and The Viscount’s Mistress which is my Hurt/Comfort Cadash/Varric Trespasser bullshit.

Do you write crossovers? If so, what is the craziest one you've written?

I have not written crossovers - but I am very into AUs in another setting that belongs to a different fictional universe. Most recently I got back into my Downton Abbey bullshit and wrote Flappers for Fen’harel which is basically a Downton Abbey AU Solas/Cadash and I’m not taking comments about the outrageousness of it.

Have you ever received hate on a fic?

Yep. Honestly though? Over the two years I’ve been active in Fandom, the shitty comments can be counted on one hand and usually came from the same people over and over again, who are easily blocked, and should stop seeking out clearly labeled content they don’t like. Me and my work are not for everyone - that’s REALLY okay. I’ve blocked people for no other reason than making things I don’t like - that doesn’t mean they’re bad people.

Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

GOD DO I.

I am extremely sex and kink positive. Because of this - a lot of my work involves sex in some way or another. I think sex is a beautiful part of many (although not all) relationships, and that it’s frequently glossed over in mainstream media (particularly queer, kinky, and polyam sex).

This ranges from sort of vanilla slow burns (My Cole/Bea fic, Compassion for an Assassin, has smut which hasn’t been posted yet. It’s Cole’s first time and is fairly vanilla and romantic, and occurs approximately 40k into the fic) to some pretty dubious consent near 24/7 dom/sub dynamics with BDSM kinks (I’ve written JUST as much of the Sereda/Gorim problematic smut as @jarakrisafis has in our series Forced Moves).

There’s very few kinks I’m not willing to touch at least to try out - even if I end up not liking them. And the ones that aren’t for me are 100% allowed to exist and I will fight for them to the bloody end. My only recommendation is CLEARLY labeling your shit and not being afraid to add a tag if someone asks you to.

Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of? I’ve seen ideas I’ve tried on picked up by other people - but I don’t consider that stealing and it’s hard to trace “who has been inspired by who” because we ALL have been inspired by thousands of other people and frankly more stuff for me when I pull you over to my weird AUs and rarepairs.

I also think that’s a huge part of not getting stolen - I’ve got so much weird niche shit that only a couple people read that stealing from me is going to most likely be caught IMMEDIATELY the audience is so small.

Have you ever had a fic translated?

I don’t believe so!

Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Yes! I’ve got some co-written secret smut with @blarfkey which almost nobody has seen, I’ve borrowed @tightassets Hawke, Lavellan, and Shepard for fics that she has illustrated, borrowed @tuffypelly‘s Adaars for some great fics, and my most ambitious project - the Forced Moves series with @jarakrisafis. It started out as us just exchanging gifts back and forth but we’ve wrangled it into Gambits and Countergambits, an Aeducan-origin prequel, that I’m VERY proud of.

I love co-writing very much, but it’s very important to find the right partner and for it to be someone you trust completely.

What's your all time favourite ship?

This is a stupidly hard question because I am, at heart, a multi-shipper.

I love Varric/Hawke and Varric/Cadash. I’m also a sucker for Solas/Cadash. My fandom pool noodle is Varric/Cadash/Solas which I adore, and I’m very fond of Cole/Cadash.

Most recently I’ve been DEEP in Aeducan/Gorim Saelac, Bhelen/Rica/Vartag, and Aeducan/Brosca feels. Dwarf origins are the best origins in my opinion and those characters are PERFECT.

What's a WIP you want to finish but don't think you ever will?

I fully plan on finishing everything. My writing style changed a lot, for the better, in a short period of time. I need to integrate my old style/new style and had to get a pep talk about how to do that. Now I’m ready to try as soon as I finish Compassion for an Assassin.

What are your writing strengths?

I write very sexy, hot smut. I also really like playing with character voice and making sure I get them “right” so I do a lot of experimenting before publishing a new character for the first time.

I struggle to write action scenes - it’s like pulling fucking teeth - but people really LOVE my action scenes and they read well. So that’s something I’m proud of even if it feels like doing fucking pull ups.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I never learned anything. My experiences with English and writing teachers were overwhelmingly negative. I’m unsure if I’m just not cut out for classes or if they were that bad, but I always left feeling like there was one “right” way to do it, and everything I liked was “bad”, so what was the point of “learning” anything?

It turns out there’s this very pompous, pretentious thought process in writing where people “assume” things must be done, but GOOD writing teachers teach you the rules and then how to break them. I either never had a good writing teacher or got too intimidated to give them a chance before bouncing.

So I’m exceedingly self-taught. I lack the vocabulary to discuss plot structure, characterization, grammar, etc. I instinctively know most of these things based on trial and error and reading, but I didn’t learn them and I miss a lot of nuance in the rules, but until recently I was still too intimidated and unsure of myself to admit that or take it seriously.

So - my defense mechanism is NOT taking ANYTHING seriously. If my writing is a joke to me, it’s gotta be a joke to everyone else, but that’s been a shield to hide behind instead of being thoughtful about things. I’m here to have fun, yes, but there’s nothing wrong with learning a technique to the art.

I’ve learned - mostly thanks to @blarfkey who is an amazing person and a wonderful teacher - that I am a good writer based on my self-teaching. And being intimidated of people who throw around impressive sounding words is a weakness that I am working on.

What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic?

Use sparingly and with good reason. It should be short and explained later or clear from context.

What was the first fandom you wrote for?

Harry Potter on message boards back in the fucking day. Thankfully none of it exists anywhere anymore.

What's your favourite fic you've written?

This is such a sappy answer and I’m so sorry. My favorite things have been written for and because of people I love and care about. When I read them, I’m not just reading the story, but remembering the relationships I’ve made and how important they are.

So, my top three fics for THAT reason:

1. Cheating the Dread Wolf - written for @blarfkey who inspired the idea and ruthlessly encouraged me to make it happen. This fic was so healing for me because it heavily features Fatherhood within it - and I lost my father in June 2020. I don’t know if I’d have been able to do it without her and it was so important for me to do.

2. Gambits and Countergambits - written with @jarakrisafis and the culmination of a years worth of gifting shit back and forth and crafting a shared universe. The worldbuilding, smut, relationships, EVERYTHING about this fic is so deeply and passionately cared about by both of us and to our knowledge it is completely, totally unique.

3. Relentless, Ridiculous, and Rakish - one of my only primarily gen-fics focusing on a forming brother/sister relationship between Maria Cadash and @tuffypelly‘s Otsar Adaar. I very much enjoyed writing it for her <3

And then my overall favorite fic:

The Viscount’s Mistress: I have a lot of opinions about how fanfiction treats the anchor’s meltdown and the aftermath. It’s one of the things in DAI that resonated with me SO much as someone who lives with chronic pain and a disability. I loved the fact my OC was in the same shoes and STILL saving the world. This is very much a fic that explores all the dark sides of trauma, pain, and the mental health effects of it. But it ends on a happy and hopeful note.

Meet The Mods - iftheskyisthelimit

We’ve had a few requests to do something similar to our “Behind The Screens” features in order to introduce ourselves, and we felt that after around a year of running this blog, and having another few people come on board along the way that now would probably be a good time to do it!

The idea is that we’ll each take a turn at filling out and posting one of these so that you guys can to know us all a little better including our own personal tastes/preferences and get a little bit more of an idea of how we all work and what we each bring to the team etc…

How did you find your way to the Thiam fandom? What about them drew you in?

I’d lurked in the Teen Wolf fandom for a while on Tumblr, and became really interested in Theo’s character and his story since he’d shown up in Season 5 (okay at first it was his looks that got me interested… let’s be honest), which evolved into being interested in his backstory when we found out a bit more about him. It wasn’t until his return in Season 6 that I enjoyed watching their characters together and their interactions and started looking around more on Tumblr for their characters that I discovered it wasn’t just me... then I randomly came across the Thiam ship through seeing some fics on Tumblr and found the Official Thiam Library as result of that...

Using a sentence, where the word count is either equal to or less than the number of letters in your two favorite Teen Wolf episode names, tell us about yourself. (ex, Motel California + Werewolves of London = 33 ; Raving + Galvanize =15)

Memory Found + Apotheosis = 21 - I’m slightly quirky but serious, love music, reading and travelling... kinda funny and always overly organised. Can’t ever cut something short...

What’s one thing about you or your life that we’d be surprised to know about?

Do you want serious, interesting or fun facts? I’ll do both as they might surprise people. Serious/boring: I have at least 3 chronic illnesses which tend to floor me, hence my long absences between writing & updating what I’m working on. Interesting: I can speak/read/understand around 5 languages and I’m a bit of a different cultures & sociology nerd.

One other thing I guess is when I get interested in a topic I get interested and have to know aallllll the ins and outs of it and thoroughly research it, so I’m probably full of boring random facts about a bunch of things that come in handy on general knowledge quizzes, but which no-one has any interest in knowing...

Does too many to mention count as an answer? No? Okay… In no particular order *deep breath*

Shows: The Handmaids Tale, Animal Kingdom, The 100, Vikings, Stranger Things, All American, Riverdale, Scream, Supernatural, Parks and Rec, Vampire Diaries, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Twelve Monkeys, Shadow Hunters, Game Of Thrones, Reign, American Horror Story, Buffy… There are literally a ton more but I really can’t think on them at the moment….

Movies: I can’t really say that I follow movies per-se… if I had to choose I’d say Marvel movies though if that counts as an answer? Umm… genre wise I like a wide range but mainly gravitate towards comedy, action and thriller movies. Or something with a good twist in the story where it either throws what you thought you were watching on its head, or you get an “aaahhhhh that’s was happening” moment. To watch a horror, it has to have that something that makes me want to watch it or get invested in it… whether it’s a character I really relate to or can get invested in, or a really good story. My favourite horror is probably Haunting In Connecticut, and I saw Midsommar recently and thought it was really amazingly done!

Other Fandoms You Follow:

I don’t really follow a lot of fandoms if I’m honest. I would probably say after Teen Wolf I follow the Marvel, The 100 and Supernatural fandoms more. Mainly the Captain America/Steve/Bucky fandoms. I love a good discussion about Animal Kingdom too!

Other Favourite Characters from shows/movies?

Uuuuhhhh…. Okay you asked for it, I was going to explain my reasons for why I love each but I’d be here all day and this part alone would end up turning into an essay.

What do you like to create (writing/art/videos)?

I’d really love to be creative enough to make art or videos, but I’m really not! I’m far more comfortable with writing… I find it a lot easier to plan a story, or just to start writing and let the words flow that way and see where it goes. It’s a good way for me to express myself and to work through feelings or to just switch off for a while and create words on a page.

Do you only create for Teen Wolf/Thiam?

I have written for Supernatural in the past and I’m planning to write a Raphael fic for Shadow Hunters at some point and maybe a John Murphy one because I’ve not found many for him that cater to my angsty tastes when there’s so much that can be explored... But at the moment yes it’s only for Teen Wolf. I’ve also posted one Sceo fic which I would like to continue as well!

Which genres do you prefer reading and creating for?

Angst, angst, angst… did I mention angst?? It just feels right to me to write angstier fics, the words and ideas just seem to flow really well, which is a surprise as I’m not really an angsty person in life. It’s just what I’ve always gravitated towards writing and I find a lot better to express myself in that way. I have a humour/angst WIP which I decided to attempt a while ago and I did quite enjoy writing something a little different from what I normally do and people seemed to enjoy it.

If your creative process was a person, what type would they be? What would they do? Wear? Listen to? How do they handle conflict?

Quite probably the most disorganised messiest person alive… No not really… just sorta… kinda… maybe… In all seriousness, they’d be half organised and half “ lets see where this road takes us”. They would probably wear all black all day every day, and be a half emo kid who listens to punk pop and emo music from their teens with a healthy mix of dance and sad songs. Handling conflict? We don’t do that here… we bottle up our feelings and hide them away until they come out in the wrong ways. No really… I think they’d express themselves pretty clearly with 1000 words instead of 100.

Official Thiam Library

How did you find the Official Thiam Library?

I found the Official Thiam Library through searching the Theo Raeken tags on Tumblr and seen the page name pop up a few times, I had a look at the page not long after and followed pretty quickly, I needed my Theo/Thiam fix and this page covered it very well!

First impressions?

“Woah, they’re on the ball!” and then when I saw a few of the events the page done I was really impressed at how often they posted recommendations and how they could organise it all.

How did you come to be involved on the mod team?

I filled in the form for Beta Readers and Helpers for the Thiam Big Bang, I’d have loved to have participated but I didn’t know if I’d have been able to commit to having such a large work completed on a deadline, so I thought I’d offer to help in another way, having helped to run the Supernatural SummerGen for a few years. Tiffany got back to me pretty quickly about it and I came on board at that point.

What do you feel that you bring to the team?

Uuuhhh… I hate these types of questions haha! I really feel like I mostly bring my organisational skills, along with the way that like to try and help out where I can in the background with writing/explaining things or getting back to people with asks/emails etc... With the Big Bang I brought my experience of things I’d learned from the Supernatural events I’d worked on too which I think/hope was of use?

What would you like to see for the Official Thiam Library over the next year?

I’d really love to see the page continue… continue on as is, doing a few more fandom events, grow as a page and fandom... also to help keeping the fandom going which is important right now I think… we’ve managed it so far though! We were just speaking about how thrilled we are that the fandom is still going strong. I also think it’s important to give older and newer fandom creators the recognition & cheer that they deserve too, which can be done through reblogging/recommendations and different events too.

Theo and Chris for survival… they seem like they’d both be good to have around in this sort of situation, Stiles for entertainment because he had his funny moments and would keep everyone going I think. Melissa because we all need a mother figure who knows when to be tough but can also provide you with the loving support you need. Scott because… well… he’s a the alpha and we’d need someone to lead our small group and take charge when needed.

Who would I willingly throw to the zombie mob given the first chance? Allison and Kira are both a tie here. Can’t I throw them both?? I never really liked Allison as a character… I don’t even really know why I just never gelled with her as a character I would like or could even get behind. Kira… ugh… just ugh… I feel like she was quite a forced character, they tried too hard to make her this cooky/funny character who could also kick ass and it just came off wrong to me… I never really warmed to her as she just felt forced.

If you could read only 5 fanfictions for an entire year, which would you choose? Thiam or another fandom, if not Thiam, which fandom?

You are our sensei and us your pupils, can you impart any life/writing wisdom?

Life wisdom: Don’t sweat the small stuff... seriously… it wastes so much time and energy that you could be using for other things. If you can’t control it or you don’t feel it’ll be bothering you this time next year, then don’t let it bog you down. People will come and go, that’s a part of life, take the lessons that they taught you from their time in your life (whether positively or negatively) and use them wisely.

Writing wisdom: Don’t force yourself. If you’re having an hour, a day, or a week where the words or ideas won’t come then don’t force it to happen, you’ll only feel worse. Step back, put on some music which suits the tone of whatever you’re writing and try to get in the mood of your story that way, it’s amazing the words that can come or the complete change in direction you can go from doing that.

Finally, what’s next for you?

Hopefully getting back into the swing of things with the Official Thiam Library and writing more again, getting ready for the Reverse Big Bang, and planning a few things in my personal life, like a few trips, my wedding and a house move (yes… I’m becoming a boring adult and it’s a scary new world!)

I was tagged by @ren-c-leyn, thank you! This was probably a classic 11/11/11 tag game but since I have done the format already and I really like these questions, I'm tagging you for the same ones!

What’s your favourite genre to write in and why?

Character-driven fantasy or magic realism. Just to have magic part of the daily life of the characters - I love all the possibilities and I think a fanatsy plot is the most exciting, but also has my characters facing their inner struggles.

Plus for some reason I have been really drawn to post-apocalyptic setting and survival plots lately.

Do you think you have a style/voice that you use more often in your writing? When did you develop that style?

I like to write in first person with my constructions or expressions being a bit unusual at times - side effect of having English as my third language - but when it's not grammatically incorrect I think it's making my voice more distinguished and unique.

Do you play video games? What’s your favourite?

Nope I don't play any.

If you were going to do a WIP crossover, which OCs would be most interesting together? (If you’ve only got one WIP crossover with something else)

I imagine it would be a lot of fun for my OCs to crossover with anime like One Piece or Nana. How they would react to the canon characters and influence their stories..,

Do you prefer to plan WIPs in a document or through handwritten notes?

Mosly in my Evernote notes on my phone. I later organise them in a word document and sometimes I brainstorm on paper. Phone is great for recording every random thought I have about the wip and then also having access to it both on my laptop and phone - a big advantage.

Do you multiple languages exist in your WIP? If so how do you address that in the story?

There are multiple languages in my wip and I have thought about ways how to adress them. There would probably be a language common for mages that is widespread in worlds where there is a high concentration of magic and the mages of the dimension travelling kind, but otherwise the languages are actually similar since those are parallel worlds...I’m not sure how big of a role that will play however. Either it will be mentioned in passing or it will shape the MC’s frustrations.

What’s your favourite animated film that’s not Disney or Pixar?

Howl's moving castle. Most Ghibli movies actually.

Do your real-life surroundings influence your WIP’s settings?

The place in my wip change a lot since there are many dimensions the characters visit, but a big part takes place in the city I go to university to. So I guess I use the surroundings that I’m comfortable with or that fascinate me in some way since a big part will also take place in a ruined world...

Which OCs would be most likely to break the fourth wall?

Anise tends to think too much, she would love to adress the audience with her inner monologues about other characters and the story's direction.

How do you work out your OCs’ personalities?

I daydream different scenarios and problems and see their reactions to them. Then I try to desribe and set the personality and tendencies more generally, make personality tests for my characters, write it down to see if it fits, then daydream some more...

Do you prefer worldbuilding or character building?

Character building. I love developing my characters and figuring out who they are and why.

What genre do you write?

Fantasy, romance, drama, coming of age, angst, hurt/comfort

Are you a planner, pantser, or planster?

I'm a planner all the way.

What is your approach to research?

I make a list of topics and elements that will influence my wip in a major way and then research them. I mostly read several articles, tropes about that theme, try to find or read a book or watch a movie from that enviroment to get a better picture. Often I come across new information that sparks some new inspiration and gets added to the outline or makes for a new sub-plot, when I like it enough.

What POV is your novel? Why are you writing it this way?

I write in first person. I always loved books in first person the most and I feel more connected to my MC this way. There is a lot of thinking and realizing going on that wouldn't be possible in such depth in third person.

Do you know how your story ends before you start writing?

I try not to. When I know the ending the story becomes boring quickly. I like to make outlines and plans for the chapters but I also like to get surprised as the story changes as I write. I know the general direction of the ending though.

When creating characters, what comes first: appearance, backstory, motivation, personality, something else?

Personality in how they act and talk and what they like to do. Then come motivations and interactions between each other showing how they are with people and what they hide from each other. Then comes the polishing of appearance. I have a general image of them when I start, but things like eye colour and hair styles tend to change a bit. I make up the backstory based on everything else I know about them, trying to find explanations and shaping memories that made them who they are.

What trope do you actually like?

The Evil teammate. This character that just seems too cruel and chaotic to be an ally but is actually incredibly skilled or genial in some way and in the end comes through for the others and cares about them in their own way.

How did you come up with your title?

When the worlds cross: It’s about mages travelling to different worlds. Plus it also hints at the meeting of different views and attitudes of the characters.

If your WIP had a theme song, what would it be?

Broken by Lovelytheband.

How has your MC developed, not within the plot, but since you first created them?

They don’t change all that much honestly. I love the change and internal arcs they will go through because of the plot, so changing that would make the story a lot different.

Your MC faces certain death. What are their last words?

Anise: “Death can’t be harder then life.”

Rhys: "Well, at least we had fun."

Cole: "I'm sure there are worse ways to die."

Oliver: "Just get it over with. I don't regret anything."

Might as well post from my Solavellan WIP longfic where I introduce my other OC, Solavellan child, Fen’Enansal. Shall I post Chapter one?

Chapter 1: The Plan

“Cole, you have to help me, please!” You begged as tears brimmed at your eyes. You clutched onto the boy’s tunic, desperation was being swallowed by the waves of despair as the tears finally spilled over the edge. They cascaded down your cheeks and fell lazily from your chin.

He wanted to help, you knew he did. He wanted to take away this hurt but as most types of pain it wasn’t an easy fix. “But, how? People would miss your presence.” Cole did have a point. The Inquisitor couldn’t just go AWOL anytime she so pleased. You didn’t have a plan. You just knew you had to come up with something.

Legs began shaking. You released the boy from your grip and made your way to your bed. It groaned in protest as you unceremoniously collapsed your weight onto it. You closed your eyes and allowed thoughts to swim about your mind.

You thought desperately. Minutes ticked by.

You sat up with a start and urged, “Tell them I have a sickness!” You sputtered, “Only you can see me, spirits can’t get sick, right? It doesn’t matter, they don’t know that anyway.” You rattled off as your mind quickened. You knew you were probably grasping at straws but what else could you do?

The vacant stare of Cole stopped you from speaking.

The metallic taste hit you suddenly, you had bitten your lower lip a little too hard. You sat down trying to calm your erratic breathing and heartbeat.

Deep breath in. Deep breath out. Repeat.

When you opened your eyes, the fair haired boy still stood before you. “They’ve known I’ve been feeling sick lately, that will convince them further when you tell them that I am actually sick.”

Cole just stared, you weren’t sure if this was a good plan or not. But, Cole was certainly the only one you couldn’t hide this from, and he was someone you could trust.

You placed a hand gently on your belly, “For the baby. Please, Cole.”

“No one must know Solas is the father?” Cole asked confused, clearly voicing your thoughts.

“It’s too dangerous.” You sighed, your glassy eyes meeting his soft blues. Your throat constricted and you tried to swallow to ease the pain, but it did nothing.

“Alright.” He agreed.

“Oh, Cole, thank you!” You wrapped you arms around him. It seems his availability broke you. There was something about someone offering comfort; a literal invitation for a shoulder to cry on.

My whole work is all over the place, so although I’d love to post it all one day, sadly it’s extremely unlikely. DA4 will come out before my story does 😂

1. Atom Heart

a) Hey Brother by Avicii

“Oh, if the sky comes falling down For you, there's nothing in this world I wouldn't do”

It’s mainly about the closeness between Dan and Amber, but the story also has lots of other siblings relationships: for example, found family between Rose and Zach, or adopted family (although not officially) between Aurelius and Ernestine. And by the way, the sky does fall at some point in the story.

b) Happy by Marina and the Diamonds

“I believe in possibility I believe someone's watching over me And finally I have found a way to be Happy”

The happy ending where all the conflicts are resolved and the lessons are learned! I can even imagine a lyric comic, the first line is Zach’s, who gains a better understanding of the laws of the universe and uses it in his inventions; the second is Dan’s, who comes to terms with his family’s death and starts viewing it in a positive nostalgic light, and the third is Amber’s, who found a way to make her life worth-while and independent - something she didn’t know she wanted.

c) Nothing Else Matters by Metallica

“Trust I seek and I find in you Every day for us something new Open mind for a different view”

This is basically a love theme. Zach finds trust in Dan, and Dan finally starts viewing the world differently with Zach’s help.

d) bonus! Atom Heart Mother Suite by Pink Floyd

It has no lyrics, so consider it a soundtrack. And now you know what gave me the title.

2. The Matchmaker (WIP title)

(which I haven’t annouced yet?? Oh boy. In short, it’s a game, a dating sim trope subversion)

a) Semi-Automatic by Twenty One Pilots

“I'm never what I like I'm double-sided And I just can't hide I kinda like it When I make you cry”

“The horrors of the night melt away Under the warm glow of survival of the day Then we move on, my shadow grows taller along with my fears”

This is 100% Hazel’s song. She is manipulative, although says she only meddles with her friends’ live “in the name of true love” - and she does believe she’s helping, she just can’t empathize. The second bit is about the good ending where everyone stays together; but even if Hazel didn’t show her true face, the ugliness she is capable of still stayed within. And as they’ll move on, her shadow will grow.

I consider Cole and Clover main characters too, because later they can replace Hazel as protagonists in the bad ending. So they are the ones to get theme songs too.

b) Three Wishes by The Pierces

“You say you want to know her like a lover And undo her damage, she'll be new again Soon you'll find that if you try to save her [...] you will never win”

Clover’s song. Clover really thinks she could help everyone (asking for nothing in return), although her good intentions were buried under Hazel’s influence. She fell in love with Hazel when she used to be a good person and convinced herself that it’s not late to go back. But as the song says, she could never win.

c) Snuff by Slipknot

“And love is just a camouflage for what resembles rage again”

“I couldn't face a life without your lights But all of that was ripped apart when you refused to fight”

“So break yourself against my stones And spit your pity in my soul You never needed any help You sold me out to save yourself”

It’s a romantic song originally, but think of it as platonic. Cole is Hazel’s best friend, and therefore the main victim of her manipulations. When she betrays him in the bad and neutral endings, it’s devastating. He knows it’s a good thing he’s finally free, but friendships don’t end overnight, and somewhere deep inside Cole still cares about her, even though he knows he shouldn’t, but he tries really hard to let her go. And he just wishes Hazel would let him go too.

Novel Prep Tag Game

Original tag game by @gottaenjoythelittlethingzz. The questions are great, so I wanted to participate - it made me look at my WIP from a new angle, so thanks!

Rules: Answer the questions and then tag as many writers as there are questions answered (or as many as you can) to spread the positivity! Even if these questions are not explicitly brought up in the novel, they are still good to keep in mind when writing.

1. Describe your novel in 1-2 sentences (elevator pitch)

A wolf that can take on a human form befriends a human boxer Rhys and accompanies him on his journey across the desolated wastelands between the big cities to find his little brother Oliver. On the way they meet the thoughtful scribe Anise and are followed by the dedicated hunter Cole.

2. How long do you plan for your novel to be? (Is it a novella, single book, book series, etc.)

A novel for now.

3. What is your novel’s aesthetic?

Desolated wastelands, big cities scattered across the continent, dried up earth, sand and dust, wind, cloudy and misty weather, dust and smoke covering the atmosphere, wolfs, ruins of smaller cities and villages

4. What other stories inspire your novel?

Mostly anime series like Wolf’s rain, Megalo Box, Banana Fish, books like Darker shade of Magic, Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, White Fang by Jack London

5. Share 3+ images that give a feel for your novel

6. Who is your protagonist?

Vincent, the wolf, that was seperated from his pack and aimlessly traveled human cities. He takes on the human form to fit in with humans and to hide from hunters.

7. Who is their closest ally?

Vincent meets and befriends Rhys, the reckless and driven boxing prodigy that needed help to cross the desert to reach his hometown to reunite with his younger brother Oliver, he didn’t see in 6 years. Vincent grows quite attached to him, starts to feel responsible and incredibly protective of him. Rhys has bit of intimacy issues, but learns to trust Vincent and regards him as sort of a brother.

8. Who is their enemy?

Cole, the disciplined and dedicated hunter. He trained boxing and martial arts with Rhys and joined the hunter association to hunt and sell wolf’s skin. His father is the ruler of Holland, charged with Amsterdam - the most populated city of the West (since all people live in the few big cities left) Cole’s parents have made him see wolves as enemies for infiltrating human cities. Cole made it his goal to hunt them to meet his father’s vision of protecting people from the wolves. He is perfectionalist obsessed with improvement - he wants to create order in the chaos the world was left in after the catastrophe and is willing to do anything for it. His goal to hunt wolves is based on this desire to improve the world.

9. What do they want more than anything?

Vincent wants to be loved and needed, a part of a family or pack so he could have somewhere to belong to.

Rhys wants to find his younger brother, but what he actually needs is to find peace of mind. He wants to prove himself and have someone to believe in him.

Anise wants to find meaning and purpose in the starving world around her where everything has to have a purpose and people try so hard to survive, yet forget to actually live. She wants to collect and organises books, since she values knowldge and firstly joins the duo to search for new books in the abondened cities.

Cole wants to improve the world and create order and security.

10. Why can’t they have it?

Vincent can’t be with his original pack, because wolves are hunted by humans and it’s easier and safer to travel alone then in groups.

Rhys feels worthless for only knowing how to fight and wants to reunite with his brother, because that was the last time he felt full and at peace. But since they parents divorced and he didn’t get along much with his father, he didn’t see either his mother or brother in last 6 years and spent them in fights a lot. Now he doesn’t know if he has any worth outside of fighting and that’s what makes him restless and self-destructive.

Anise works as a scribe and teacher, because that’s the role people consider useful in this decayed world. She doesn’t believe all that much in her work, because she thinks people should be learning from books from Before the apocalypse and not just recording what happened After.

Cole considers wolves to be the natural enemies to safety of humans since the discovery of their ability to take on human forms. He doesn’t understand how they survived after majority of animals and natural life perished and fears they want to take over humans.

11. What do they wrongly believe about themselves?

Rhys believes he has to fight everything to prove his worth and that emotions and needing help are a sign of weakness.

Vincent believes he can’t have a family or bonds anymore because he is a wolf in a human world.

Anise believes her life doesn’t have meaning outside of collecting knowledge.

Cole believes he can improve the world by hunting down something he doesn’t understand.

12. Draw your protagonist! (Or share a description)

Vincent looks like a slim young boy with messy dark brown hair, pale skin and icy blue eyes in his human form. In his original wolf from he is a white wolf with amber-yellow eyes.

Rhys is muscular and tall with dark olive skin, black curly hair and dark eyes. He is covered in scars, most notably on his arms and on his right cheek.

Anise has long blond wavy hair, grey eyes and ivory skin.

Cole is tall, but less muscular then Rhys. He has black hair falling in his green eyes and fair skin.

Plot Points

13. What is the internal conflict?

Rhys is so set on fighting and reaching his external goal - reuniting with his brother and protecting him - that he doesn’t realize he actually needs to accept himself and his faults and find internal peace in caring about people and living with them. He needs to realize he doesn’t have to prove anything, doesn’t have to be strong every minute to be useful and worthy of love and recognition.

Vincent mostly only has a bit conflicted emotions regarding his storng protective feeling towards a human, when humans are the ones that drew his pack apart and hunted him for so long. Otherwise he just wants to belong somewhere and enjoys his new pack.

Anise wants to find meaning - she was afraid to want anything, always concerned only with activities that were neccessary for survival or for being useful in the dying society that has few resources. She values knowledge and wants to find and collect the books left abondened through out the country, so the cognition of the pre-apocaliptic world would be saved. Through knowing Rhys and Vincent she sees how someone can still have desires and enjoy simple pleasures like watching stars or dancing and finds her meaning in living, fullfilling her dreams in hunting for the lost books.

Cole struggles to improve the world but isn’t going about it in the right way.

14. What is the external conflict?

The journey to cross the wastelands is difficult and is very rare for someone to attempt to go on one. People are gathered only in their big cities, valuing their resouces while other cities and the country have been abondened. Smaller cities that still have inhabitants are rules by violent gangs, the routes are long and one needs a lot of supplies since there is nothing on the way to eat or drink, with unpredictible weather and frequent sand storms.

Additionally Vincent is hunted by Cole and since Rhys defends him, he is in danger too.

15. What is the worst thing that could happen to your protagonist?

Rhys failing to find and care for his younger brother, which he would see as a sign he is worthless and deserves all the bad that happened to him.

Vincent never having a pack again and no one he could be himself with.

Anise staying static, living a planned out life in the city full of anxious people and doing something she doesn’t believe in.

Cole feeling like he failed to contribute to helping the world get better.

16. What secret will be revealed that changes the course of the story?

It's not that much of a secret as a bit of a plot twist that Oliver, the younger brother that the main characters looked for the whole time, actually didn't want to be found and wasn't very keen on seeing his older brother again, since he was very angry with him. But the issue gets solved, when the brothers reconcile at the end.

17. Do you know how it ends?

Not exactly sure, just that Vincent, Rhys, Anise, Oliver and maybe Cole stay together, either make a living by continuing to travel and collecting lost objects or finding place to stay and build together.

18. What is the theme?

What self-worth is based on for people - family, higher purpose, dreams, success, abilities. Finding a meaning, fullfilling a purpose or recovering when one’s purpose or dream was lost. Having dreams and meaning when the world is falling apart starved and if every activity has to have a point and what does it mean.

Wolf, moon, wind, clouds, dust, whirlwind, books

20. Where is the story set? (Share a description!)

The story is set in post-apocalyptic future Europe, where earth has dried up and smoke and dust have cover the sun to the point that it’s hard for people to survive. So people migrated from all over the country into big cities, where they live very closely together. The land inbetween pretty much turned to uninhabitable wasteland, with many cities and villages left empty.

21. Do you have any images or scenes in your mind already?

Yes I have several scenes in my head, that I’m working on connecting into a logical plot.

22. What excited you about this story?

The growing trust and protectiveness between Vincent and Rhys, the bonds Vincent forms with Anise and Oliver, how the enstraged brothers Rhys and Oliver reconcile again and Cole’s transition from an enemy to friend. I’m also exicited about Anise’s romance with Rhys, who at first challanges her views and believes. Also Cole serves as the main bad guy, but is actually an antagonist, who will redeem himself and befriend the other characters in the process.

23. Tell us about your usual writing method!

I always start with characters that I stick in different scenarios or in my favourite movies and series or books and let them interact. From those I mostly get inspiring scenes that I try to connect through a plot. Afterwards I work on characterisation, world-building, research details and outline stuff a bit. I also write little snippets that sometimes turn long and can be used as chapters.
