Signal Lost
I've had something happen to me that's so incredible and that I could have never hoped, something so touching and so unbelievable that it made me rethink a whole lot of stuff: a wonderful reader on Ao3 started reading my long-form fic (101k words!!!) and commented basically every chapter after a certain point. And wow, I would have never thought something like this might happen.
And yeah, it is my first fic with plot in it, yeah I will never believe it to be perfect, but it's good enough. And receiving all those emails from Ao3 really was the highlight of my days over the course of which I saw said reader slowly go through all my favorite parts!
And so I wish to give it some spotlight here, while I'm finishing up my school year and work and whatever! I will post this here for now, but I will drop chapters every few days and make a Masterlist for it this weekend. (nvm I don't have the energy to do this any time soon lmao) I have too many loose ideas in my head so this is just to pass the time till the brain worms wiggle all in the same direction

“I don’t think I’ve ever received a document as classified as this one. What am I supposed to do with it, Kate?” he says, dragging his thumb across the pile of papers, each file filled with more ink than the last.
“You asked for proof, there’s your proof,” Laswell says.
“You said you’ll bring someone competent, and who can help us, this doesn’t tell me shit.” He stares blankly at the screen, tired. She stares back.
“The Captain specifically asked to keep this under wraps.”
He rubs at his face, scratching at his beard. It’s getting long again.
“Who is he, anyway?”
“I can’t tell you that.”
He groans again, picking up the file on top. No photo, no name, no age, no height, weight, no nothing . And he thought Simon was secretive.
“What can you tell me?”
“It’s the closest we’ve ever gotten to him. Did things a particular way.”
He shifts through the papers. “And the discharge?”
“Left after the entire team got wiped out. Messy stuff.”
“That why he doesn’t show his face?” He bends forward, grabbing the cigar from the ashtray and bringing it to his lips.
“John.” Her voice carries a heavy warning.
“Just sayin’,” he says, biting around the cigar with one side of the mouth. “What kinda captain doesn’t go down with his men?”
“Got enough guilt as is. You’re lucky I convinced them.”
They both remain silent. They know the missions would be a slippery slope. One wrong move and a war is started. He puffs a cloud of smoke.
“Anything else?” John asks.
Kate looks to the side, her face illuminated by another screen. He can see her hesitate, her lips are pursed in a thin line as if she’s debating her options.
“You’ve worked together before.”
His face lights up. “Finally! Who?”
Her face immediately hardens back up. “Can’t tell, John, my hands are tied.” She sighs. “You were still a Lieutenant.”
Years ago then. He mentally catalogs everyone he’s ever worked with, but he knows that at that age, he was throwing himself at every available mission, wanting to make a name for himself. “So an old fart then? How’s that gonna help us?” If the guy was a Captain when he was still a Lieutenant, and he felt himself grow old, he can’t imagine who Laswell is bringing back from the dead.
Laswell’s face distorts, he knows he’s pushing her buttons, but he has to know.
“Not older than you John.”
His eyebrows raise. “Oh?”

calx’s experiments #1 plans for my upcoming smaus
aye, thanks for 400+ follows! consider this as a special hehe. i will add my thoughts, opinions, concepts, ideas, and outlines in this post.
the smaus that will be discussed in this post are MIXED SIGNALS (kazuha's), CHEMISTRY (albedo's), TWO WORLDS APART (ayato's), PROFESSORS OF LOVE (zhongli's), and another kazuha smau. spoilers ahead!
✧ー MIXED SIGNALS :: ft. kaedehara kazuha x GN!reader
since this won (tbh i'd still publish it sooner than the others if it didn't lol) i continued outlining it and... unfortunately, it didn't turn out to be as light-hearted as everyone might expect it to be so i decided to make two (2) kazuha smau.
before talking about the other smau, i'd like to discuss my plans for this one. (i will be talking about the other kazuha smau at the very end)
this will be a very short smau (i think) so i decided to make a Tagalog version of this one (currently suffering, i regret this decision but it is what it is). narratives/written chapters are going to be written in full English except for the dialogues. the dialogues and texts may be different from each other, but the context and meaning will still be the same as i will not try to translate them directly.
also, don't expect to see the group chat that you saw at calx's experiments #1 main post ー i'll be posting a teaser soon (slay 💅). i won't discuss it much so,, have these tags and warnings instead lol

Although she never really appeared in the books until Crow magically needed a Windclan mate, Nightcloud would have been an apprentice around the time of TNP right? So Nightpaw could always be an option for the Windclan journey cat in your hypothetical Deadstar au. I'm sure her and Tawny would be great friends.

i actually don't personally give warriors a hard time for magically appearing cats, because it's really very recently that you can expect warriors allegiences to be a full listing of the cats.
like ik people are like "oh all the other clans were only five cats in tpb" and like. windclan's allegiences in into the wild were literally just tallstar. it's quite clear that those aren't all the cats in the clan, you know? just the cats who show up.
as time goes on it gets murkier and murkier but really i'd say it's not until oots that you can trust, "no, this is a full listing of every cat in the clan ever," and even then, like, riverclan's allegiances are basically copy-pasted from book to book, y'know?
which i personally prefer like aside from the fact that thunderclan needs to be pruned down, and now we have pov in every clan so like ig yeah it's necessary (AND W FROSTPAW IT FINALLY IS EVERY CLAN), but i still liked it the old way better. i've never read allegiances and now it's just more pages to skip.
(how tf did skyclan get a pov character first like what?)
but i digress, that's not the point of this ask. it's just on my mind.
to the point: yes, night...paw? would work. she shows up as a fully formed warrior xd.
i think it's a matter of who's chosing: probably tallstar, considering it's bluestar, crookedstar, and nightstar who are initially choosing. (i know oakheart ends up choosing, but he asks crookedstar for permission.)
the only reason deadfoot chooses is that heatherstar didn't exist at this point, y'know? windclan sprung into existance fully formed with tallstar at its head until tallstar's revenge. (actually i think it's yellowfang's secret that she gets introduced in? i'm too lazy to check tho.)
(also i say y'know too much fuck)
anyway, i can see tallstar choosing nightpaw! i like this. i can't say with certainty it's what i'd do/am going to do if i ever write this, but it's a top contender.
and yes! she would get along really well with tawny wait wait wait.
so i said i might make this the same as the shrewsquirrel prophecy au, which means either shrew & squirrel, shrew & leaf, or leaf & squirrel go on the quest which means All of the clans choose a she-cat, and/or have a she-cat tag along, which! so valid. fits w/ the matriarchy. luv it.

ONE
tell me the first song that made you stan your current fave group and why did your faves attract you so much?
side effects! (oops this is a txt blog) but i’m pretty sure this is what made me want to stan skz! the song is very experimental, as it’s psychedelic edm (i believe), but i liked it a lot after a few listens. i was totally obsessed with the choreography as well, because the whole thing is just...art. they attracted me because their style of music was different than what i had seen before, and on top of being extremely talented and creative people, they were also super funny and caring.
another group that comes really close to being my favs is day6 (and i cannot even begin to describe my infatuation with this group). i listened to “shoot me” and “sweet chaos” and BAM that’s all it took to drag me into stanning this group. i’m not familiar with the inside jokes and all that, but i just love listening to their music! there is not a single bad song in their entire discography! i also have the largest heart eyes for young k’s “young one” project covers and eaJ’s original songs.

Food Fantasy Adventure(s)! But As Sims.
DISCLAIMER: I downloaded CCs(custom contents) and tried my best to make them look accurate. Sorry about that, but finding what you're looking for is tough. Also, some things won’t make sense (from just one picture), so I’ll explain what’s going on from the captions. And since this the Sims, there will be minor clippings, glitches, and breaking logic.

Moving onto our first adventure in China:
So there’s this billboard thingy that we can go on adventures and do tasks. Bifty’s mission right now is to talk to someone and head to the Forbidden City. Something about finding a lost relic (Rosie can’t even say much shit oof). Oh yeah, Bifty also tagged Napo and Brownie along. Half of everything will be out of context, due to missing screenshots.

Yeah, basically we can travel through other rooms by diving into these dive wells.
Anyways, the NapoBB52 trio found the vase they were supposed to look for and head home as Bifty gives the person (who asked for it) the relic.

random fact: most of my friends growing up were dogs- and i've had up to 6 dogs at a time! we've rescued a total of 13 dogs, 4 birds, 2 squirrels and a rabbit. i'm also on the spectrum and will kill you dead if you make fun of autism :)
