You will not convince me to ever get as deep into conversation/analysis about DA2 on here as I do on TikTok.
Bc the reason I never talked about DA2 10 years ago is an attitude I KNOW still exists within some of you who remain here today. Some of the people who were the reason people lurked back then are still on here. To be frank, y’all scare me.
The discourse around Marian Hawke, the bad and lacking-in-nuance takes around certain companion characters… the inability to talk about mage rights and Anders’ actions with literally an ounce of grey mixing into the black and white thinking 😭 “I support him and wish I could contribute” vs. “I think he’s the most evil evil to ever evil in any universe”
… it’s just so bad 😭😭
No thank you. There’s a reason I lurked then. Because this fandom has nightmarish takes and a mean attitude around it. All while being Completely Convinced™️ that they have a right to be judgmental about everyone else for having vaguely differing opinions or interpretations 😭😭

2, 3, 15, 16 from the fandom asks! :3
Hiiiii! :D
thanks for asking!
Tis the prompt list
2. a headcanon you weren't sure about at first but have come to like!
I'll answer with a ship and not because it feels like when you get asked what's your favourite movie and suddenly it feels like you never watched one movie in your life: VarricxSolas
I wasn't that sure at first, it didn't really convince me.
But then I read more on the internet. And well. A certain AU happened.
3. a character that fandom has helped you appreciate
Anders.
I still think that he's a missed chance, he could have been so much better with so little, and it has to be added that I have a LOW tolerance for people and characters that whines for the sake of it, without doing nothing about it. But, I came to appreciate him more and see more nuance in his character.
Also: Vivienne.
Mind me, I liked her as a character for the purpose she served!
But the fandom, and @shivunin in particular helped me see more nuance in her character that I hadn't caught in any of my playthroughs, both dued to the kind of character I played (Aisling constantly hit the one dialogue option that had Vivienne disapproving... Radha fared a little better but not enough)
I saw her much more as a Maleficent-like figure than she actually was, and I loved discovering a caring side of her that I hadn't caught at first. (Note: I LOVE Maleficient in the cartoon. It's a compliment.)
15. the character that always makes you smile
Already answered here, but let me reiterate:
16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate
Cullen technically knows Hawke is a mage since Act 1. He never says anything. I do not think that he failed to recognise that Hawke and his friends are carrying magic staffs in the Gallows, if you bring them there.
This is in no way a willingness to justify all the rest of the shit that he spits out my goodness my man roll that thought in your head before vomiting it out like that PLEASE... But to say that the basics for a redemption arc were there. Or like... Why didn't he say anything? Why if he said something didn't Meredith act? WHY?
And the pendant with the wolves howling at the moon in DA2 which I always make Fenris wear because yes. Down with the emo vibes someone gift him a Tokio Hotel cd.

============= Synopsis
"Late Thursday night. You've had a hard day and the last thing you need is this: shopping. Luckily, the place is pretty empty and you're progressing rapidly. On to the next aisle...
============= Other Info
Aisle is an Inform 6 parser game, first published in 1999. It is a beloved short IF game which became a staple in the IF annals, wining Best Medium at the XYZZY awards and making it on multiple best IF games of all times lists. The game was also parodied in Pick Up the Phone Booth and Aisle and referenced in other IF parsers.
Status: Completed
Genre: Slice-of-life
CW: /
Note: depending on the action picked: violence, assault, mention of death, depression, illnesses, suicide, murder, nudity (those account for about 15% of actions?)
============= Playthrough
First Played: Jan/Feb? 2023*
Last Played: 26-May-2023
Playtime: around 30min (walkthrough)
Rating: - /5
Thoughts: A beautiful and tragic game, a masterpiece of good experimentation.
*technically not played by myself, but during a shared streaming with the French IF Community
============= Review
Aisle started out as a game which would not need the usual meta-verbs... i.e. a game with only one turn. The initial idea was: How do I make a game with only one turn interesting? Give it lots of endings--in fact there are many 'endings' and (hopefully) every sensible action results in an 'ending'. There is no winning action. There is however more going on than just this and the more endings you see the more things should become clear." [--blurb from The Z-Files Catalogue]
Spoilers ahead. It is recommended to play the game first. The review is based on my understanding/reading of the story.
You play an (older?) gentleman doing some late night groceries after a long day. Most of it is pretty mundane and uninteresting, until you see some fresh gnocchi in the pasta aisle. Your mind can only think of the last time you had those, in Rome. Around you, the shelves block your view to the other aisles, and a brunette woman stands a few meters away, filling her trolley with pots of sauce.
And in this aisle you stop your trolley, waiting on what to do next.
Though I never found more than a few dozens by myself/with the French IF peeps, there are over 136 actions producing an ending in this game. 136! Whether you interact with yourself or your environment, there are a lot more you can explore with this very restrained environment.
Even if the experiment of one-action-the-end is truly amusing and insanely entertaining (who doesn't like a treasure hunt for all 136 endings*), it is the writing that shines the most in this piece. The game is humourus, and dark, has bits of lightness, and becomes incredibly sordid, it is sad and genuinely touching... It can say so much with so very little. Truly incredible.
*a Gotta Catch them All! but endings xD
Through the endings, a backstory forms around the PC. Or maybe two or three. He had a wife, went to Rome with her, but something happened (death/illness/something else?), and he was left alone. It is not truly clear what happened to his wife, or the PC's involvement in said disappearance/death*, but what is certain is the pain and the guilt the PC still feels after all this time (has it be years, by now?), making him unable to form new connections with people, leaving him truly and completely alone. What stays is his fond memory of that trip to Rome and those gnocchi he ate there...
*some endings mention the PC killing the wife, others talks of her suicide (assisted/alone, etc...
======== Sidenote
Aisle is the reason The Roads not Taken exists. The OG idea was to recreate the gameplay of Aisle, but in a different setting. While this didn't pan out, TRNT was still heavily influenced by this game.

@thenightmareofyourdrems ( starter call. )
smoothing down blue skirts, she keeps her gaze low. it's strange how giddily she waited for this day, but the moment that it's here now, she can't help her worry. there isn't anything to worry about yet johanna's mind posses the not-so-secret talent for finding something to fret over in every occasion. their paperwork is in order. the marriage certificate signed by the appropriate parties. there's no huge guest list to worry about. only toby and mrs. lovett and obviously the bride and groom ( who had invited most of the people in attendance ). what if they don't believe that she's twenty-one? the court system did, but what if they caught onto it and made her seek her parent or guardian's signature? she is eighteen and in her opinion that makes her old enough. besides, johanna supposes she has her parent right here if need be.
with a sigh, she looks up at him. ❝ if you don't fell well enough, there's no pressure at all to be here. you can go home if you'd like. you're still healing, i wouldn't blame you. not at all. if this is too much . . . ❞ fingers twist the fabric of her dress in her hands. ( blue, the color of bluebirds spreading their wings in flight. a free color. not the virginal white increasingly becoming more popular. not after the judge. ) ❝ but obviously you've been invited and there's a reason. i invited you, not anthony -- but even if he did, you're still welcome. i don't want you to feel overwhelmed or unwell or unable to. it's perfectly alright. either way. ❞
eyes dart to the two doors separating them from the chapel. on the other side anthony will be dressed in his best, beaming as she walks down the aisle. her hand on her father's arm. father's. ❝ do you feel . . . ready? ❞

i'm curious on what aisling and valerie's relationship is like :3 obviously marlow is her brother, and you've mentioned that felicity was supposed to be a mother for her and that sakura has a soft spot for her but what was aisling's role supposed to be (especially curious now that you've reworked her to be marlow's childhood friend)
OWO that is something im trying to figure out as well when it comes to a specific label, but i figured all 3 members of felicity’s team would have raised valerie to some extent! in a “it takes a village” way yknow? so aisling specifically i always imagined she’d be like a fun aunt figure if not also a parental figure! since aisling is the lazy type though she probably would have just done the fun aspects of raising a kid tho LOL. she loved the kiddo though, she grew up surrounded by other kids so she is pretty in tune with what they like
in the present though because she’s very bitter towards marlow, she distanced herself from valerie in general. she doesnt dislike her or anything but she prefers to just not acknowledge her existence because she doesnt want to acknowledge marlow’s existence. im not completely set on this but she may be the one character that just doesnt want anything to do with marlow at all anymore and thatd extend to valerie (something that val wouldnt pick up on because marlow kept her from them anyways) as opposed to felicity who does want to rekindle things despite everything and sakura who isnt connected to the drama and sorta relates to her and so does like her.
