i dont have any actual ref images or anything like that, but these three are my more recent/accurate doodles!

i think the only important detail is that the horns point backwards and also slightly inwards

Pearl has been acting very strange lately. Gem and Impulse have noticed. She's avoiding them, and when they do get close, Gem swears there's something slithering under her hoodie on her neck. And when she points it out, Pearl covers it and turns away from her! Impulse swears to have seen shifting below her hoodie, and then there's the fact that she never seems to take it off! It's smells like trash, Pearl!

Stress said she found her just standing in front of her shop, and when she was close to her, Pearl just ran off screaming. What is going on!?

She's also a lot more aggressive than normal. She just killed Scar over and over again when he came to ask for help with his trash situation. The next day, all the trash on the server was gone, and the trash bins were flipped over.

Gem and Impulse have had enough! They are going to have Pearl tell them everything! But the problem is that no one has seen Pearl since the trash vanished. So they go to her home, and she isn't there, so the look around her biome and it feels like it's actually alive and looking at them.

Then they find it. A massive open trapdoor far into the mountain landscape. It's rusted and old and leads what looks like miles below the earth, even more so than the ancient cities. But Gem and Impulse know Pearl is down there she has to be. So they go in careful of course but they still go in.

Until of course, they all make it to the bottom and see it.

It is a city and not an ancient city but something more modern. There are buildings all over the place and dirt roads everywhere. And it's all destroyed. The roads have massive holes in them, and the buildings look abandoned. Small shops are everywhere and obliterated, and a fungus is growing everywhere. The same one that makes up Pearl's base.

Then Gem and Impulse find a small building, "Pearle Scent Mooning," but the screen that spelled it out is broken, so the letters are all glitches. So they then go in and they look around. Then they find her.

Pearls hoodie was on the ground and torn up, and Pearl herself was lying on the floor naked. Her eyes bloodshot and grim all over her. Fungal vines wrapped over her body and plunged into her mouth and body. Gem and Impulse hurry in ripping the vines off her, and they get her, and then they cover her with the tattered remains of her hoodie and a blanket Gem found.

They get Pearl up when she gurgles something.

"You need to leave."

Their confused until they hear something behind them, and they turn to see someone there. It's Pearl. But this Pearl is in better condition than the one their holding. And they look so much like her but fake. Gem clings onto her sword.

Then it speaks.

"You didn't think the Biome would ignore all your other hermits, did you? This one was the beginning and now your next."

And then the fake Pearl rushes towards them its own blade drawn.

Pearl has never been clingy, but she's never been like this either. Impulse and Gem are used to hanging out and cuddling with her, or her surprise visits to bother them. For all of that to stop was the first warning sign. Then all the other strange behaviours...

They should've acted sooner.

Gem leaps forward, the enchantments on her sword shining in the darkness. Impulse hauls Pearl into his arms. A silent agreement is made between them, then she's fighting.

The swords clang with every blow. Gem is glad for the extra training she's been doing, because whilst she might be better than whatever this is, it doesn't seem to tire. Gem may be a good sword fighter, but she can't go on forever.

Out of the corner of her eye, she can see Impulse leaving where they entered. Gem pivots, backing towards the entrance. Her hair is is sticking to her face - she didn't expect a fight like this.

With a deep breath, she kicks her opponent's legs out and sprints. The fungus seems like it's moving, growing larger, reaching for her. She shouts Impulse's name and barely makes it inside when the ceiling explodes, collapsing being her.

Impulse has Pearl on his back and gunpowder and redstone on his fingers. They nod at each other, running towards the ladder.

Gem glances back to see tendrils of that fungus trying to reach through the rocks. They don't have much time.

"Once we get out," she says, "we fly to the shopping district." She takes a breath, taking the ladder two rungs at a time.

"Got it."

They're hermits. They'll figure this out.

Somehow.

Not our usual mischief but (hands you a weight blanket) I think you could use one. You give a lot of people hugs and affection of all kinds but what about when you’re alone in your room? Crowley's flaws: I think Gaiman accidentally wrote himself into a hole that he either doesn't see or doesn't know how to escape, and he fell into the hole when he decided to turn what was a political allegory into a psychologized relationship issue. Pratchett's understanding of evil is rooted in post-WWII thinking about totalitarianism, in which unthinkable acts are perpetrated by bureaucracies staffed by "normal" people, and resistance comes from individuals who become aware of what this routinization really conceals. This is consistent across the Discworld novels, not just GO. What GO does is take this point and filter it through C. S. Lewis' THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS (the hell-as-bureaucracy model, which NG and TP then extend to Heaven). In the novel, there's a direct line from Crowley's "hung out with the wrong people" to the moment at the airfield when he tries to reject Aziraphale's claim that they're both responsible for the mess the humans are in because they were "only doing our jobs." That's a textbook example of what we now call the Nuremberg defense ("just following orders/just doing my job"). The fandom loves romanticizing this aspect of Crowley's character--he has trauma! he's a proto-Marxist with demonic class consciousness!--but when Crowley busts out this kind of reasoning, he gives way to /evil/, just as Aziraphale does when he tries to justify the ways of Heaven to himself. Any fan who wants to be uncomfortable ought to read Hannah Arendt's EICHMANN IN JERUSALEM and then go back and look at Crowley's dialogue again, because boy howdy. But when it comes to their relationship, the transgression is not /personal/.

In the series, the political allegory has vanished, and the direct line runs from Crowley's "it's not my fault" to manipulating Aziraphale into killing the Antichrist. So far, so good, sort of? Gaiman had to remind the fandom that we aren't supposed to buy Crowley's excuses, all of which are bad. He's called out on the "why me" bit three times in the first episode alone. But by the end, there is no sign that Aziraphale understands that he has been manipulated, and no sign that Crowley understands that he did something wrong! The moral epiphany Crowley had in the novel vanishes, so we are left with a nasty /personal/ transgression that neither character understands as such. Aziraphale, by contrast, keeps owning up to his mistakes (at the bar, to Adam during the timestop, on the park bench). Part of this has to do with comedy and its lack of object permanence, so to speak. However, instead of facing up to the conflict it's created for itself, the series drops the whole thing like a Hellfire-hot potato, and so appears to conclude that there's nothing wrong when one character repeatedly takes advantage of another one's gullibility, sometimes in destructive ways. The question is to what extent the new writer has any opinions about this, or even notices.

i have no words........ 👀 a very interesting and thought-provoking take. i dig it. i never thought to look at the tonal comparison of the book vs. the show but this is... eye-opening. yes. YES. (and this doesn't mean that the characters nor the story are unlikeable. it means they have depth but that depth sinks into murky, terrifying, bottomless oceans just as much as clear, shiny, crystal-like reefs). YES.

Ugh, I am so OFFENDED by this!!

So Gem and Pearl are in a dilemma. Their sisters have been crushing on each other for so long its insane! Gems older sister Aries and Pearls younger sister Moo have had crushes on each other for years basically since they met. The problem is that they think the other doesn't love them like that at all.

It's been a pain for Gem and Pearl, who hear them talk and talk on how they just can't get the other out of their heads. So they decided that enough be enough and they proceeded to plan out this whole date night with Impulse's total agreement to help them out (Impulse stop trying to break out or Gem will stab you where it really hurts)

They hope that they're sisters can finally shut up about the other

Hilariously, the way Gem and Pearl went about planning the night is to choose things that they hate. Their tastes and their sisters' are the complete opposite! Spicy food, sweet and sour desserts... A date night they'd hate!

They write out notes as invitations from 'their secret admirer', carefully mimicking their sisters' handwriting. And once they're delivered, they've done all they can.

Ironically, in arranging the opposite of their dream date, they found they put together one for them, too! Impulse gets to come along as well, a celebration of a job well done.

Until they wake up tomorrow, and their sisters are rambling excitedly about how incredible their first date was! They really are perfect for each other...

It’s been a while! I hope you’re not too stressed. :) Maybe you should write in a few of Kunikida’s “ideals” books and see what happens. Or even better: switch them out and see if he’s awake enough to spot the difference?
