mattsabrina quotes from hard sell by lauren layne part 4
“I just meant that I wanted to do that. Not because I wanted anything in return. Because I wanted you.”
“I’m asking if you want a drink,” I dodge.
He grins cockily. “No, you’re asking if I want to stay.”
I look away.
“Sabrina.”
“What?” I snap.
He waits until I relent and meet his eyes. Then he smiles, softer this time. “I’d like to. Stay, I mean.”
I shrug as though it’s no big deal and doesn’t matter to me one way or the other.
But it matters. A lot.
And I’m pretty sure he knows it.”
“He dips his head and kisses me. Not like he wants to shut me up, not like he’s trying to win an argument, but because he wants to.”
“There’s nothing but afternoon sunshine, a brisk breeze, sand, water . . . a beautiful woman.
My woman.”
“She freezes when she sees me, and I freeze, too, not in surprise, but because of how beautiful she looks.”
“otherwise I look just like her.”
“So she was beautiful. What else?”
“You’re good at this,” I say begrudgingly.
“Only with you.” He brushes a strand of hair off my face.”
“Instead he pulls my wineglass out of my hand, sets it aside. Then he gathers me to him, my head against his chest, his heart steady and reassuring beneath my ear.
I feel his lips on my hair, and though I don’t think I’ve ever sought a hug for comfort in my entire life, at this moment, I get why people do. I let my arm slide around his waist, closing my eyes at how right it feels to be held by him.”
“he pulls me in for a kiss, and I smile when I feel his smile.
The kiss starts out light and playful, but with each brush of our lips, we linger a little longer, our breath growing a little faster.”
“I’m already all the way, painfully in love with a man who will never love me back.”
“tonight matters. She matters.”
“You want Sabrina,” Ian says. “But for how long?”
“I want Sabrina . . . forever. For always.”
The guys look a bit shocked, but Kate merely smiles in triumph. “I knew it. You love her.”
I brace for the stab of panic, and I’m freaked out, all right, but not in the way I expected to be.
I’m not in panic over my love for her. On the contrary, loving Sabrina might just be the most sane, smartest thing I’ve ever done.
I love her. I love her more than anything.
My panic? Fear that I might be too late—that she might no longer love me.”
“You said you wanted a Tiffany cut, but if that was hypothetical or you’ve changed your mind, we’ll get you a new one.”
My hand goes to my heart. “What? What are you—”
Before I can finish my sentence, he calmly and unapologetically drops to one knee. “Sabrina Cross . . .”
I hear someone sob. Probably Lara. Or Kate. Maybe both.
Then I realize it’s me. I’m crying.
“Don’t you dare tell me it’s too soon,” Matt continues. “Don’t tell me we’ve just started dating, because that’s bullshit and you know it.”
“I let out a little laugh, because it’s so us. Only Matt’s proposal would include profanity. Only his proposal to me.”
“I shake my head in confusion. “You’re giving up a multibillion-dollar account—”
“I’d give up everything for you. Every client, every last dollar.”
“Matt,” I whisper. “You’ve always wanted—”
“You. I’ve always wanted you. That much I’ve known for a long time, but what I didn’t know until this week was that I loved you. I love you, Sabrina. Please, for the love of God, tell me it’s not too late.”
“He does as I ask, closing the distance between us and slipping his free hand around my back. “Say yes,” he whispers in my ear. “Please say yes.”
Like there was ever a choice. There’s never been any choice but him.”
“You still want me?” he asks roughly.
I smile and wiggle my finger.
“Sabrina.” His voice is urgent now. Nearly begging.
I smile and kiss his chin. “Hell yes, I want you. I love you, Matt Cannon.”
He pulls the ring out of the box, and the second he slides it onto my finger, he kisses me, hard and fast and completely unapologetic for the fact that we’re basically making out in public. I kiss him back, wonderfully aware of the weight of the ring on my finger, the applause of our friends in the background, but mostly aware of him.
“You know what I think?” he whispers, pulling back.
“Hmm?” I ask happily.
He smiles. “We’re going to rock the hell out of this happily-ever-after business.”
I pull his head down for another kiss. Count on it.”
“He’s everything I need that I didn’t know I wanted.”
“Matt and I may be wildly in love, but we’re also still us. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

[Review] Emergency Contact by Lauren Layne and Anthony LeDonne
Tumblr media
Another brilliant book by Lauren Layne with her trademark wit and hijinks.
I can’t remember the last time I read Layne’s book, but it feels like it’s been a little while. “Emergency Contact” was just the book to remind me of how much and why I’ve always loved her writing.
This book isn’t steamy, and yet it’s still really satisfying to read of the story between Katherine and Tom , two ex’s who still really love each other despite the disaster that was their marriage.
Also more interestingly Layne wrote this book with her husband Anthony Ledonne a comedian. There’s no distinct parts of this book that stood out to me as being anything other than Layne’s signature banter and comedy which I suppose is a compliment to them both.
They clearly have a knack for writing together and I for one can’t wait to read more books by them both, or more books by Lauren.
Would be really interesting to see the authorial breakdown of this book. And to interview them both!

They HAVE to stop meeting like this. After a disastrous meet-cute turns into repeated meetings, a flighty free-spirit and a stodgy rule-follower come to realize that one they can't get away from ... is the one they can't live without.
You Again by Lauren Layne is now live!
Mackenzie 'Mac' Austin just wants what any modern, commitment-phobic woman in New York wants: a no-strings-attached hook-up, steamy enough to brag about over mimosas the next morning. What she doesn't want is her dating app's latest suggestion: preppy, corporate Thomas Decker. So, obviously, she rejects the guy without a second thought. There's just one snag: he's sitting next to her, so he witnessed her do it. And now he's calling her out.
After the initial embarrassment, Mac is determined not to let it bother her, but Fate has other plans - and Thomas isn't going anywhere. First, he pops up as her new boss. And then he reappears as her best friend's soon-to-be brother-in-law.
As the not-so meet cutes add up, Mac is sure that uptight Thomas is the last man that a free-spirit like her should want. Only the more time she spends with him, the more Mac realizes that the man she can't get away from has become the same one that she wants to keep close...

💬 Happy Friday! How are you spending your evening? . I’m watching Season 3 of @virginriverseries that was just added to @netflix today! I love this show!! 🤩 Are you a fan too? . . Something else I love… this book!! Thank you to @valentine_pr_ & @gallerybooks for gifting me this copy of To Sir, With Love by @laurenlaynewriter! I absolutely adored this story. It is an adorable contemporary romance with a super fun twist on one of my favorite rom-com movies ever, You’ve Got Mail! This is the perfect read to add to your summer reading list. 💕 . . . s u m m a r y : Love Is Blind meets You’ve Got Mail in this laugh-out-loud romantic comedy following two thirty-somethings who meet on a blind dating app—only to realize that their online chemistry is nothing compared to their offline rivalry. Perpetually cheerful and eager to please, Gracie Cooper strives to make the best out of every situation. So when her father dies just months after a lung cancer diagnosis, she sets aside her dreams of pursuing her passion for art to take over his Midtown Manhattan champagne shop. She soon finds out that the store’s profit margins are being squeezed perilously tight, and complicating matters further, a giant corporation headed by the impossibly handsome, but irritatingly arrogant Sebastian Andrews is proposing a buyout. But Gracie can’t bear the thought of throwing away her father’s dream like she did her own. Overwhelmed and not wanting to admit to her friends or family that she’s having second thoughts about the shop, Gracie seeks advice and solace from someone she’s never met—the faceless “Sir”, with whom she connected on a blind dating app where matches get to know each other through messages and common interests before exchanging real names or photos. But although Gracie finds herself slowly falling for Sir online, she has no idea she’s already met him in real life…and they can’t stand each other. . . . 🏷 #tosirwithlove #laurenlayne #romancebooks #romancereader #romancereadersofinstagram #bookphoto #beautifulbooks #gallerybooks #summerreading #beachreads #contemporaryromance #readingisfun #romcom #youvegotmail (at Connecticut) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRIC8u9tflK/?utm_medium=tumblr

Me conta lá na ask, quero saber, estou aberta à todas as opiniões.

New Release & Review-Made in Manhattan by Lauren Layne
Tumblr media
Made in Manhattan by Lauren Layne is now live!
From the New York Times bestselling author of the Central Park Pact comes a reverse My Fair Lady for the modern era about a pampered and privileged Manhattan socialite who must teach an unpolished and denim-loving nobody from the Louisiana Bayou how to fit in with the upper crust of New York City. Violet Townsend has always been a people pleaser. Raised in the privileged world of Upper East Side Manhattan, she always says the right things, wears the right clothes, and never rocks the boat. Violet would do anything for the people closest to her, especially her beloved grandmother. So when she asks Violet to teach the newly-discovered grandson of her friend how to fit in with New York City's elite, Violet immediately agrees. Her goal? To get Cain Stone ready to take his place as heir to his family company...but to say he's not exactly an eager student is an understatement. Born and raised in rural Louisiana and now making his own way in New Orleans, Cain Stone is only playing along for the paycheck at the end. He has no use for the grandmother he didn't know existed and no patience for the uppity Violet's attempts to turn him into a suit-wearing, museum-attending gentleman. But somewhere amidst antagonistic dinner parties and tortured tux fittings, Cain and Violet come to a begrudging understanding--and the uptight Violet realizes she's not the only one doing the teaching. As she and Cain begin to find mutual respect for one another (and maybe even something more), Violet learns that blindly following society's rules doesn't lead to happiness...and that sometimes the best things in life come from the most unexpected places.
My Thoughts: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cover to cover. That's how I read LL's newest contemporary romance, Made in Manhattan. IMHO, noone writes big-city contemporary romance the way Lauren Layne does. The story is a love letter to NY, to romance, and to the readers that love happily ever afters. I loved the play on My Fair Lady, with the grumpy hero being the one that gets the makeover from the sunshine socialite. As always, New York is a central character in the story, but this time we also get to experience a little of New Orleans, which was such a nice addition! Everything about this book was magic-the banter, the romance, the journeys of self discovery, the secondary characters that provided both insight and humor (everyone needs a bff like Ashley), and sweet Coco/Toto. If I could rate this book higher than five stars, I absolutely would. This story and these characters are ones that I will enjoy revisiting often.

mattsabrina quotes from hard sell by lauren layne part 3
“Say something charming,” I whisper.
“Your ass looks amazing in that dress,” he says under his breath.
I let out a low chuckle so that anyone watching assumes we’re sharing an intimate inside joke, but my words are chastising. “I said charming not horny.”
“Compliments are charming.”
“Sure. Compliments on smiles. Hair. A woman’s ass, not so much. No wonder you’re single.”
He glances down at me. “I’m not single at the moment. I have you.”
“That night when Matt and I first met had been romantic. And sexual. Hell, it’d been magical.
In the span of hours, he’d made me feel like no man had in my entire life. Butterflies, breathlessness, the whole bit.”
“he drags his fingers lightly along my palm. My breath catches at the caress, but instead of looking smug, he looks intent. Thoughtful as he holds my gaze.”
“He leans down to kiss my cheek. “I’m sorry our lunch got cut short.”
I blink in surprise at the sincerity in his voice. We both know Jarod Lanham is the goal here, not me.
Don’t we?
“Call me later?” I ask him, letting my voice go soft and a little hopeful.
“Of course.” His eyes stay locked on mine.”
“Cannon?”
“Yup.”
I look down at my wine. “Juno and I were going to order takeout. I was thinking Chinese.”
“Okay?” This time it’s a question.
“You can stay. Eat with us. I mean, if you want.” I look up.
“Okay.” This time it’s not a question. And it’s paired with a happy grin that makes my heart feel like flying.”
“Cannon.”
I don’t look at her. I can’t. “Yeah?”
She leans toward me slightly and whispers, “You had a history tutor?”
I let out a startled laugh. Her response is so unexpected and so fucking perfect that I do the only thing I can do.
I bend my head to hers and kiss her.”
“I join Matt’s family by the fire pit, both pleased and alarmed when he sits beside me, close enough for our knees to touch.
Pleased, because I like the intimacy of the moment.
Alarmed . . . because I also like him.”
“We going to talk about the fact that I kissed you tonight?”
“I’ve decided to overlook the breach of contract. You’ve got one hell of a home life there, Cannon.”
“I do. But what’s your excuse?”
“For what?”
“For kissing me back.”
She gives me an annoyed look. “We’re not talking about that.”
“Good,” I say simply. “Because talking’s not at all what I had in mind.”
Then I reach out and haul her to me.”
“A rule I decided to break the second he reached for me.
For that matter, I think I decided to break it the moment I asked him to stay for a cup of tea instead of sending him right back out into the rain.
My brain’s screaming, Fool. My heart’s screaming, Mayday.
But my body . . . . it knows what it wants—what it needs—and it has always needed him.”
“I’ve missed this,” he murmurs, his lips gliding under my chin, nuzzling my jaw. “I’ve missed you.”

My Review
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I had the biggest smile reading this fast-paced, addicting, witty, super entertaining, opposites-attract romance! This was an incredible story with these in-depth and complicated characters and I loved every second of it. I was immediately captivated and pulled in. Together they had such great interactions. I loved the building connection between the two. The tension, the push and the pull was freaking enticing. And their chemistry…. ah-may-zing!
Cain Stone has recently been brought to New York by the grandmother he always wished he had growing up. But with her wishes for him to take over the family billionaire business, she also wants him to undergo a transformation to fit in her world. And what better person for the job, but Violet Townsend who is like her granddaughter and is perfectly poised and perfect in every way.
Violet Townsend is a pampered privileged Manhattan socialite, working as an assistant for free for her older friend Edith. When Edith asks for assistance with her newly discovered grandson, Violet readily agrees to take on the unpolished denim loving hunk of a man from the Louisiana Bayou and help him fit in with the upper crust of New York.
This is a charming, swoony, and a must-read delight. Sizzling with romantic tension, and sparkles with an electric connection. These two characters are absolute perfection. And I was unable to put this story down until I was finished as I rooted for their HEA!
