oh hold on hold on i wanna talk about zero and the borg. so they plug themselves into the collective because there's a deadly weapon on their ship that "we can't allow to hurt anyone else" (are we still talking about the same weapon? and not *ahem* something else? idk it's just interesting that they use pretty much the same wording as when they talk about themself) and they volunteer to do this because yes, they have the highest chance of coming back out, but also they feel like they need to make up for what they did. they can't undo what happened to gwyn, they can't minimize the threat they pose to their friends every single day literally just by being around them, but they can take on the other risks so no one else has to get hurt.

and then when they are inside? inside where the borg isn't hurt and promises that no one ever will have to be hurt? it makes sense, doesn't it, to become part of this collective. zero hurt people, hurt their friend, but if there's no more zero, they can't hurt anyone ever again.

more than that, if they all become part of the collective, none of them will be hurt by seeing them.

in a horrible, awful way, it makes sense.

One time I ate probably way too many mushrooms and I could feel my trip going bad. So, I turned to my roommate and I said something along the lines of,

"I feel amazing but I feel like this sensation has a price and I'm about to pay it."

To which he responded, "What are you, catholic?" And that knocked me so firmly out of my mental state that the rest of the trip was hands down the best time I ever did mushrooms.

I hate how acknowledging unfairness in the world is seen as "childish". Maybe children are right. I don't think you should be proud of the fact that you've become complacent with the state of your miserable existence and took on this loser "it is what it is" mentality. Things can be better.
