Ravenclaw: Don't talk to me before I've had my coffee.
Hufflepuff: You've already had two cups.
Ravenclaw: My morning coffee routine is four cups. I can't handle your cheerfulness until at least cup number three.

♡ everyday things to appreciate more ♡
sunlight shining through your window on brighter spring mornings
the cosiness and comfort of your bed on a cold night
curling up in front of the fire with a cat
walking in windy weather with your hair flying about your face
the papery whisper of a book being read
that lovely, fresh feeling you get after you wash your face in the morning
peeling vegetables for dinner and the sound of the skins falling away
checking for letters in the post-box
the pitter-patter of raindrops against the window
the gentle tickle of the comb as you brush your hair
the warmth of a cup of tea against your hands
getting a good night’s sleep and waking up to the birds

On Tuesday – during a press conference at Trump Tower – US President Donald Trump defended the actions of white supremacists in Charlottesville over the weekend, saying there were “some very fine people on both sides.”
Here are some other examples of violence “on both sides.”

Letter from the Editor | #6 "Battle Cry"
Dearest Sweatpants & Coffee tribe, The other day as I was turning onto my street, which is in a quiet, residential neighborhood, a car traveling in the opposite direction cut the corner and almost hit me. As I swerved to avoid a collision, my body zinging with adrenaline, I let out a mighty battle cry. Except it sounded like this: “Rawr.” You always try to imagine what your battle cry might be,…

Catastrophe Kitchen | Quick & Easy Fettuccine Alfredo
Catastrophe Kitchen | Quick & Easy Fettuccine Alfredo
In researching recipes to use, I came across some really bitter diatribes from people saying, “TRUE Alfredo FROM ROME has NO CREAM!” Or “Without nutmeg it is a DISASTER!” Or “I could never feed this FAT to my family, I use SKIM MILK instead!” The internet is a divided place, yo. You will need: 4 T butter 1 clove garlic 2 C whipping cream 1 C parmesan cheese (about 2 ounces, grated) 1 t salt 1/4 t…

February 6th is Aaron Burr’s birthday! Until the musical “Hamilton” hit Broadway, most people only knew that Aaron Burr was a Vice-President and that he shot Alexander Hamilton. Eats and Drinks | National Homemade Soup Day
Eats and Drinks | National Homemade Soup Day
Happy Homemade Soup Day! I generally don’t make soup at home unless it comes from a can. But when we moved away from Seattle, we couldn’t find a decent Vietnamese restaurant for our daughters’ favorite soup, Pho. Pho is a Vietnamese soup made with a clear, highly seasoned beef bone marrow broth and rice noodles. Restaurants will often serve it with raw steak that cooks in the broth, or cooked…

Sweatpants & History | Rosa Parks and Her Lifetime of Activism
Sweatpants & History | Rosa Parks and Her Lifetime of Activism
Today, on what would have been her 104th birthday, Rosa Parks’ contribution to the Civil Rights Movement is honored—in two states: California and Missouri (Ohio and Oregon observe Rosa Parks Day on December 1, the anniversary of her arrest). Only four out of fifty states have proclaimed a day to honor the woman often dubbed “the first lady of civil rights.” Aside from being a missed opportunity…
