I haven't been watching a lot of anime these days. I guess it's a anime/manga block that I'm going through. However, I have been watching a lot fo drama series. No no, not BL. There aren't that many good live action BL dramas out there. (There are a few but we'll talk about that later)
I'm totalllly into crime, action, mystery, gangs and police dramas. These include doctors, lawyers, and military kinds.
So, I watched this Korean drama on Netflix called "My Name" the other day and honestly, I wasn't expecting much since I was trying to pass time. Before I knew it, I finished the whole season. It was good. I approve.
Tumblr media
It's a short story, 8 episodes of about 60 minutes each. There was a lot of action, violence, gore, blood, slicing, hand-to-hand combat, dead people and also back stories. Oh, the back stories.
The story revolves around this one kid, Yoon Ji Woo, who's been outcast by her school and people around her cuz apparently her dad's a gangster? And she ends up watching her dad being killed and doesn't know who did it. The police aren't investgating it nor is the drug ring leader who was apparently like a brother to the guy. Long story short, she goes through shit because she wants to find her dad's killer.
Fast forward a few years and she becomes a detective working in the narcotics unit to find the killer, and she's not exactly your "by the law" kinda cop either. She's out for blood.
"I don't know who you are, but I'll find you and I'll kill you " - no, this isn't a quote from the show. It just seems apt though. Haha
Tumblr media
I loved the lead, Han So Hee; she was super strong and a total badass in the show. I loved the fight scenes with her and also her motorcycle. The character was well played all in all.
Also the cast did good job on this show, Ahn Bo Hyun who was Ji Woo's parner and Park Hee Soon played the drug ring leader of Korea. The music was cool enough for me to download it and keep it as my alarm tone. Haha!
The acting, music, casting, cinematography, and the story line, everything was satisfying!
Tumblr media
Here's are the posters for the show, which are also one of my desktop wallpapers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
WOW! SHE'S SO COOL!
I think the downside of this show might be that it was too short ? Well, I heard there's gonna be a second season! So, YAY!

Watched Word of Honor (A Tale of Wanderers) , 2021. Chinese censored adaption of same-sex couple, Xianxia.
Wowowowow
They don't care about Chinese censorship. Okay, don't get excited now. They do, but not as much as The Untamed did.
"The Untamed" walked so that "Word of Honor" could run. Lol !
Word of honor as been compared with The Untamed quite often, then again, why wouldn't it be? Even their offical posters are similar. I think it's fine, though. One can't not make comparisons when they have almost the same themes.
So, anyway. The chemistry between the main leads was beautiful. Must admit, Zhou Zishu was a bit of a tsundere but it's cool. It worked well with Wen Kexing's "never give up attitude"..more like, "tough women are weak towards clingy men" attitude.
HA!
But, boy, oh boy! Gong Jun (Wen Ke Xing) was badass in this show. His blatant flirting made me blush. His cheesy lines made me blush. His staring made me blush. Oh, yes, and his smile made me blush the most.
There was a lot.of touchy-touchy and hand-holding between the on-screen couple as well as usage of "soulmates" which seemed pretty cute. There were a few scenes where they depended on each other like an actual on screen opposite-sex couple would- definitely more than bros. (Wen KeXing threw the censorship out the window). There was also a Romeo and Juliet ending moment in the show which I thought was tragic.
I have watched Gong Jun's other BL series, Advance Bravely. I though he seemed familiar but couldn't place him. A little Google search helped me find out that he's done a great job in the other series too. Our man, right here can do both, top and bottom. Truly multi-talented. Lol. And though it was kinda rom-com and short spanned, it was enjoyable and rewatch worthy.
Word of Honor is a standard Xianxia, with its dose of warring clans, some ghosts and zombies, invisible strings that make you float, flowy clothes, fight for some martial arts world treasure, and a lot of mystery, scheming and talking. Duh! It's Drama. And Chinese! If you didn't come here for this, then, get out! I love this shit!
The supporting cast, acting, setting, soundtracks and costume/make-up wasn't as memorable as their chemistry and cute lovestory. I probably wouldn't re-watch it since it was a drag. I'd love to watch a complication of Wen ceaselessly flirting with Zhou, though. <3<3<3 what else are you mostly here for, am I right ?
What I didn't like about the series was mostly it's ending. These people need to work on their endings. They need to go out with a bang! Even The Untamed didn't have such a memorable ending. Apart from that I think it's give it a good pass.
I think the highlight of this show for me was watching Gong Jun's crazy smile !
Can. Not. Stop.
Please look down on me, Lord Wen Kexing!

I recently re-watched The Untamed (Mo Dao Zu Shi), 2019, Chinese censored adaption of same sex couple. And wow.
Just wow!
Sat through 50 episodes (40 mins each) of that shit and I do not regret it. When I watch some clips I feel like rewatching it. Again.
I think this was the 3rd time I watched it. After watching the anime and reading the webtoon versions of it, too. I only have the novel left to read.
My heart aches about how they did Wei Ying dirty and I cry happy tears about how he got his hubby, Lan Zhan, standing next to him in every given situation in the later half of the series. "Come back to Gusu with me."
AHHHHHHHH!!!!
The part when Lan Zhan actually showed emotions, how he got furious, felt helpless and cried when he found out about Wei Ying's golden core.
Wowowowowowoowow
I re-watched this scene and a lot of others knowing they were so cool.
I must say, the acting by both the leads is pretty awesome considering Wang Yibo's goofy personality. I couldn't watch the behind the scenes and bloopers and had to remind myself that, it was Wang Yibo, and not Lan Zhan being silly the whole time off-camera. And Xiao Zhang's acting was good regardless of what his personality was like. It hit me right in the kokoro, the emotional scenes, the funny, the witty, the angry and also the dumb scenes were all loveable. His smile is to die for! Their chemistry was cute both on and off camera! <3
Apart from the leads, acting by the supporting cast was also good. Only wish it wasn't as exaggerated but some. But still, it's fine.
The story, fight scenes, setting, location, soundtracks, lighting, colors and costume/make up was super cool. 13/10 would wanna cosplay.
One of the few things I didn't like about the show was the shitty graphics, like come on, we live in the 21st century. Get a better graphics guy to work on those dire wolf, turtle and all those puppets. Especially, the spells and incantantions. ahhh!! I can't even begin to describe how cringe it was. But still it wasn't as bad as compared to what let me down the most.
The exposition. The ending. I (re)sat through the final 2-3 episodes for the long ass explanation of who did what, why, where and how. Like, come on! You could've spared me all the "standing around talking in the same room" drama for over 160 mins of a show I liked. I could've lived without all that. Especially, when all these guys are standing around TALKING and actually trying to be sympathetic towards the bad guy who killed not only a lot of innocent people but also their families and wiped out their clans. I get that the antagonist's strong suit was manipulation and all but I would've atleast punched the guy when he wasn't looking. I also get that your spirit energy is down, but what's martial arts and brute force for ??
Ahhhh!!
All in all
I'll rewatch again, someday!

Tokyo Revengers, the anime, is currently airing. I can't wait to finish the manga and start watching the anime. Kinda gives me The Breaker vibes though they're nothing alike.
I know I said this about Jujutsu Kaisen too, but hear me out . . . I'm lazy.
Yup. No other excuse. Will write about them all later.

Anime update
I finished watching ID: INVADED, a sci-fi psychological, murder-mystery-thriller and psychopath-detective anime, which was just down my alley.
It's about the brilliant detective Sakaido who has to solve Kaeru Chan's murder. He dives into the "wells" of serial murders to always find himself in an unknown world with his memories lost having to start off from scratch, as if in a game.
Am I alive? Am I dead? Where am I? Who am I ? I don't remember.
Kaeru chan ...
I don't know this girl but I know her name.
She's Kaeru Chan. And by remembering her name I understand more about myself.
My name is... Sakaido.
I can't remember a full name but it doesn't matter. What matters is that I'm the brilliant detective and that I must solve the mystery of this girl, Kaeru's, death.
Will Sakaido be able to put the Jigsaw puzzle together to see the big picture ?? It's super interesting and I loved the concept. Would've enjoyed a second season too.
I give it a 7.5 out of 10. Some points lost because of the length of the show, and..not such a satisfying ending. The music was okay, the voice acting was on point and so was the decent animation. Character was fleshed out upto a point but I doubt they would have the time for all that with just 13 episodes.
PS: Definitely do give it a go if you liked Psycho-Pass and Paprika

Gokushufudou: The Way of The House Husband, has an anime web series of 5 episodes that came out early 2021 and I dropped it at the first one. I was super excited when it came out because I was already reading the manga and had watched the live action YouTube video that be introduced to me the same. But.. I was disappointed -- not deeply ..but disappointed nonetheless.
I'm not gonna say it was bad but it wasn't to my taste. The animation was....well...there was no animation. It was as good as moving cut out cardboard pieces to make them seem like they're talking or moving or something.
It was kinda refreshing to watch something of that style, I don't know.? Maybe I'll finish watching it later for the sake of it.
I'd rate it 4 out of 10.

The Way Of The HouseHusband
Gokushufudou is an episodic, action packed slice of life comedy manga series, written and illustrated by Oono Kousuke. It follows the ordinary everyday life of a 'not-so-ordinary' househusband, who is the legendary ex-yakuza boss, "The Immortal Dragon".
Tumblr media
Having retired from the life of crime for his working wife, Miku, Tatsu finds himself giving into his usual aggressive habits as he takes on everyday roles of a home maker, from cleaning to grocery shopping and making a bentou.
The comedy lies in the on lookers finding him intimidating as well as misunderstanding his intentions and how he deals with normal household chores. There are several running gags throughout the series which show us Tatsu's Yakuza traits.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gokushufudou was published and serialized in the online manga magazine Kurage Bunch since 2018, now has 5 volumes (55 chapters) and is still running. It has also been published into manga by Shinchosha and the translated version by Viz Media. There are also a bunch of promotional motion comics online which are funny as they're voiced by Tsuda Kenjiro. It is adapted into a TV drama  directed by Ruto Toichiro and produced by FINE Entertainment. Nippon TV plans to release in October, 2020.
I came across Gokushufudou about a year ago while browsing YouTube and found a live action fan made video. I found it hilarious and was thrilled to know that it was actually based on a manga. It has about 8.7M views currently and I'm not surprised as it's well made, even professional if I may add.
I'll end this by adding the fact that this is a Seinen manga and it's one of the few comedic and enjoyable series for adults.
Read the manga to discover how The Immortal Tatsu and his underlings figure out to normally function in a society.
PS - I like how Tatsu looks super cool while wearing an apron.

"Me no mae ni tachihadakaru takai takai kabe.

Donna fuuni mieru no darouka?
Itadaki no keshiki, ore hitori de wa kesshite miru koto mo dekinai keshiki.
Demo, hitori dewanai no nara, miero kamo shirenai keshiki "
"A tall, tall wall looms over me
What's the view on the other side ?
What will it look like ?
The view from the top.. it's a view I could not see alone
But, if I'm not alone I might able to see it"
The series starts with Hinata’s internal monologue and till date I cannot forget it !
Haikyuu!! is the best shounen/sports manga that stays true to its genre - without fillers, without deviating from the main subject, which is Kageyama and Hinata’s volleyball journey.
Their rivalry, which starts from middle school, gives birth to a friendship that lasts over their lifetime. It transforms into something greater. Something like…volleyball soulmate, if I might say. They help each other grow in ways they didn’t expect from the other person.
Apart from the main characters, all (and I mean ALL) the other teams are lovable. No matter which team wins or loses, you end up happy for them when they win, or cry when they lose. This series keeps you on the edge of your seat. No matter which team scores the point, you’re always the winner, because you get to witness such a high level match!
I started this series without prior knowledge of volleyball and today I’m collecting the manga, and also try playing volleyball.
This series taught me a lot of things. It taught me to try my hardest (not there yet) to become strong. It inspired me to work on myself and become like Hinata. It also inspired me to have passion toward something in my life and give my all before deciding to give up.
There’s so much I can talk just about the story line, so lets cut it short for now. The waterworks and feels you feel are too much to handle.
The manga art is beautiful and dynamic. Very comprehensive. I love the emotions portrayed without having them put into words.
I find the theme songs of the anime very addictive.
There are several things I want to say about this show but will save it for later. Thank you.
Thank you #Furudate sensei!
This series changed my life!

A 2009, sci-fi anime film about JP, a hot-headed racer, who barely qualifies and is resolved to compete in the galaxy's most dangerous 'anything goes' and famed once in 5 years race, #REDLINE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The movie tracks the obstacles faced by the many competitors and those involved before and during the race On the fictional uninvited planet of Roboworld.
Tumblr media
I was personally delighted by the colors, unique design and style of this film.
The gripping action, animation and soundtracks pack a punch. I admit that they could have delved deeper into the characters but given the time limit its genius none the less.
Tumblr media
A must watch if you're an anime fan ! The lack of marketing left this gem unnoticed. It is going to be one of my favourites.
