I see very little rickyl gifs or mentions regarding the scenes in season 8 and don't understand why they're considered as less significant than their scenes from earlier seasons.
I'm watching the whole series for the first time and now that I've reached season 8 (while shipping them from the beggining) I see so much growth here.
They don't need words (not that they ever did) because their eyes only are enough for communication - can read eachothers thoughts basically, but still, this season shows them differ on most things that revolve around them, how to win the war against the saviors, whether they should focus on saving their people or killing others, if there is a way to forgive (because by this point they both know there isn't a way to forget).
And this is the point where Daryl knows. He knows Rick is at a breaking point, everything the man ever did since Daryl met him was for his son. And now he's in the middle of a war, about to lose his cause. And Daryl is finding out he's about to loose Rick too because there is no way Rick is ever gonna come back from this-god he's gonna loose Rick too. And so Daryl wants to end it. End the fucking war as soon as possible, kill Negan, kill everyone, let Rick rest. Mourn his son, be with his daughter, for however long he can.
