I guess it's time for me to play some more Nintendo games! No, not the ones on the Switch this time (although I would like to). Apparently I missed out on a lot of stuff on my Android device... 1. I suppose the biggest thing I skipped in 'Fire Emblem Heroes' was a brand-new 5-star hero (and an original one too! I have to admit, she's very easy on the eyes. I suppose I should thank Yusuke Kozaki, aka the character designer for 'Fire Emblem Awakening' and 'Fire Emblem Fates', for that). In addition to this, new stories and challenges appeared which substantially took my time. 2. 'Super Mario Run' also had an update which included an additional game mode called Remix 10. I tried the new mode out, and you know what? I find it surprisingly decent. 3. I finally tried out 'Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp' for the first time. For what it is, I suppose it's alright. But then again, given the fact that I've never played a single 'Animal Crossing' title before, I may be wrong. Would I still consider playing these games in the long run? So the Japan part of my trip is complete... :) Despite the cultural differences, me and my family managed to enjoy and visit much of the Tokyo Metro area, including but not limited to Shinjuku, Akihabara, Shibuya, Ginza and Tsukiji. There are very few opportunities for me to acquire a proper Internet connection as of yet, and today happens to be one of them. What did we do there, you may ask? Since we could only stay in Japan for about 3 days, all we could do was shop, take photos, eat delicious Japanese cuisine and visit an arcade or two. All within Tokyo of course. Did you know that this is the second time I've gone to Japan now? The last (first) time I went five years ago, it was as part of a Japanese high school exchange thing; I got to explore much more that time, visiting places like Osaka and Kyoto, to name a few. So this is my last post of the year before I travel overseas to Japan/Korea for a holiday (yes, that is really happening, and yes, I am quite excited at that prospect). Of course, I couldn't bring along my Switch without installing some games first. Since they are quite expensive, however, I decided to limit my choices to one game per month, from August to December of this year (and trust me, it wasn't easy making said choices as I continuously relied on public opinion about which games to buy). I think I just found myself a new main in the form of Geese Howard in 'Tekken 7'. He's super fun to use despite his 2D fighting game roots. Now who could ever imagine 'SNK vs Capcom' coming back (in 3D no less!)? I for one did not expect it to become a reality (sort of)! And speaking of Capcom... I finally bought 'Street Fighter V'. I know an Arcade Edition is coming soon, but man do I really want to try out the new characters I missed out on since the last CFN beta (in addition to checking out those sick costumes that just got released very recently). So the 5th volume of RWBY is a thing... plus I've watched the previous 4 volumes of that show... and some of the characters are appearing in an anime crossover fighting game... Thus I've decided to purchase and play the game that came out on Steam. Sure, it's not the most intricate action game I've ever encountered, but in a world where 20+ hour long games seem to be the norm, I'd say this is a breath of fresh air, as it is significantly shorter than most titles of the genre. Despite having completed another year of uni (plus some Steam games along the way), I could not manage to complete these games in the end. Maybe it's because some of these games are not great as some people think? Maybe it's because I could allow so much space on my computer for other games such as Nioh and Tekken 7? Out with Nier, in with Nioh! It took me almost 8 months, but I finally, FINALLY beat 'NieR: Automata' for real (in other words, getting all 5 core endings), while also getting some joke endings along the way. That game is certainly a top contender for my game of the year; it's really that good. MEANWHILE... Oh boy. 'Nioh' is just unforgiving. Goodness knows how many times I've died just in the first few levels. To be honest, I never really was the biggest fan of NetherRealm games, but I do respect what they did in terms of setting new benchmarks for fighting game stories, among other things. Now that that's out of the way... Just today I tried out the online beta for Injustice 2. As my PC can barely run this game, things did not turn out well in the end. You know what's scary at this time of year? Having to make a choice over numerous games that are discounted on Steam. Love it or hate it in its current state, you can't deny that there are people playing this game; if new content keeps flowing in like this, I believe that this will turn into another 'Street Fighter V' situation, in which the game will become better over time with new content regularly added. (Also like SFV, the new content would just be too much for some people financially and aesthetically...maybe. I mean, I'm happy with not buying those new premium costumes and all, so...)
