Environment Study (~5 hours) Swipe for time-lapse and reference
I had done a few 30 minute environment studies and decided to do one that I could spend as much time as I wanted on ✨ I do my studies with my reference side by side with my canvas, without colour picking and all on one layer
I'm probably gonna move on to another subject with my studies next week so I'll leave some tips here for my own reference and for anyone else who's interested 🫶
Work from background to foreground
Work from big to small, block in large shapes before small details
Grey looks warmer next to cool colours and cooler next to warm colours
Hue shift to make cooler colours cooler and warmer colours warmer
If it looks almost grey in the reference, it's probably just grey
Hard edges over soft edges for water texture

Jan 2024 vs Sep 2021, redraw of the first artwork I did in the digital painting style ✨ (+ coloured versions)
Crazy to think I've been developing this style for so long, and even then I think I've gotten to a new era where I'm playing around with textures and experimenting with my process. I think I've gotten a lot more comfortable defining facial features <3
Beidou, her majesty. I think this time around she actually looks more like Beidou <3 She's one of the only Genshin characters who's design I don't mind drawing LMAO- Haven't played Genshin in about a year now, I put it down to focus on school last year but now I'm missing some of the characters </3

One thing about me is I'm a slut for good animation. Spiderverse and Arcane are both fucking phenomenal all around, but they could have been straight garbage and I would have sat there staring at the screen like a baby watching Cocomelon.
