Stepping into Casper David Friedrich's painting "Der Wanderer über dem Nebelmeer" (Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog) • • It was an incredibly foggy day in Budapest on this day, so we decided to drive off towards the hills, hoping to rise above the fog. It seemed hopeless for a while but then we suddenly ascended above the thick layer of clouds into the golden landscape. We were confronted with the most stunning view: the waves of the sea of fog crashing onto the autumaml trees, moving across one hill to another. (Angie Weiland-Crosby) • • We came here to watch the autumnal sunset but surprisingly entered a different realm of this season. Instead of the low golden light shining through the colourful leaves the village garmented itself in a coat of mist. The houses were disappearing into the mysterious cloud that became thicker as the last rays of light dimmed. Only the church tower was visible by the end, reminding me of when everything is misty around us in life we will always find certainty in our Creator if we lift our eyes towards Him. He will always show us the way. [ Hide and seek ] • • This is my last Isle of Wight post (for a while at least...). I definitely photographed this trip and I'm very pleased with how the photos turned out. It was such a lovely adventure, these memories are for life! I'm so glad I didn't use my phone much on this trip, I could fully enjoy every moment of it! Digital detox can do wonders, I wish we all went outside and spent more time with each other in real life more often, than just being online all the time... The Isle of Wight is a place I've wanted to go back to for ages. We used to go there on holiday when I was a little girl, with our own VW T3 camper at the time (we don't have it anymore sadly), it was such a wonderful birthday present to roam the island with Dougal the T2 camper and to stay on Compton Farm. It was supposed to be my 18th birthday present, but 'rona made me wait, and I must say the patience paid off. { English thatched cottages } • • Shanklin and Godshill are popular locations on the Isle of Wight, and I'm gald I got to see them both. Shanklin is such a lovely town, we visited some of the local shops, bought some souvenirs and boxes of fudge, and of course we went to this picturesque location of the thatched cottages. Driving down this road with Dougal was very atmospheric indeed. But then my parents surprised me and took me to Shanklin Chine. For some reason I never heard of this place, and I was absolutely fascinated! Who would've guessed that in the middle of a town there is a gate that leads to a different world of a gorge with tropical forests, waterfalls and streams leading down to the seaside? I was amazed. And the history of the chine is even more interesting. Many literary artists were inspired by this place, such as Jane Austen, Keats, Dickens, or even George Eliot. It was a popular place to visit in Victorian times. Shanklin Chine is also famous for its involvement in WWII, when it served as a training area for the 40 Royal Marine Commando battalion, AND it used to carry one of the Operation Pluto pipelines which carried petrol across the Channel to the Allies in France. You can still see parts of this pipeline. And the Fisherman's Cottage at the end by the sea is a view worth visiting. Godshill was also a dream come true, to see this famous spot completely empty. We only met two Scottish tourists, no one else. { Cottagecore dream } • • One thing I love about the English countryside is the lovely little cottages and their gardens. Thatched houses have such a charming character, it always feel like going back into a previous century. I like to imagine what it must have been like years ago, people living their simple life with the same exact cottages around. I like forgetting about modern busy cities and just getting lost in the wonderful peace and quiet of the village. Admiring the cottage flowers, the foxgloves and the honeysuckle, the way they decorate the brick walls. Brightstone was a lovely hidden gem. We found the sweetest little shop selling all sorts of gorgeous things made by creators on the island: beautiful postcards, bags, hand made and hand painted souvenirs. Another place we visited was the very famous Winkle Street and its cottages. The place was completely empty, we got to experience it in unbelievable peace and quiet. We could hear the lovely sound of the stream, it was a truly idyllic place. [ Compton Farm ] • • This was the best camping location to stay at on the Isle of Wight. It was hidden between two hills, close to the Military Road, by Compton bay and near Freshwater, but tucked away so you forgot you were that close to towns. It was absolutely perfect. I am very much a country girl, I love staying far away from busy towns and be in the peaceul environment of nature. Beautiful scenery, peace and quiet, farm animals, simple life, no internet, no signal. This place was a real charging station for the human body and soul. (No wonder Rousseau says man should return to nature...) An experience nothing else can give you. Spending most of the time outside, eating, reading, playing outside, climbing up the hill to watch the sunset over Freshwater bay while the doodle bugs come out and attack the campervan. Mr Fox stealing all our scones during the night and then meeting him face to face one night, a cow escaping and chilling out by the toilet facilities, chicken hanging out by the showers... and I can't forget to mention the brightest supermoon being our light during the night. I didn't need to use a torch. Being able to truly appreciate one's surroundings, admiring the beauty of nature and spending quality time together with others. This was the best place to stay for a week with Dougal the campervan, such a gorgeous farm! It was truly perfect and had all things necessary. I had the most wonderful birthday week, this is the best place to be. And how cute does Dougal look from the top of the hill? { Birthday dinner at The Needles at sunset } • • I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate my birthday. Making memories is the best present to receive. And having pizza at sunset is something I try to do every year on this day, no matter where I am. We visited the most famous landmark on the island and were astonished to find the place completely empty. We were the only ones there. We took our picnic food with us and sat down at a spot overlooking the lighthouse, the cliffs and the sea, while observing the most amazing sunset. The sky was on fire. I am like an old car and my heart is an engine. It beats continuously never wanting to give up. Every piece of it resembles the creativity of its Creator. It has its personalised elements eager to contribute towards other people's happiness. It has its talents, strengths, and particular pieces that make it devine. An old car is beautiful, genuine, one-of-a-kind. But sometimes it does break down, it will battle rust, its broken pieces will need to be fixed, or it might thirst for petrol. It's hard to drive down steep roads, it's hard to keep the engine going, sometimes it's hard to get those sparkplugs to ignite. It needs to be taken care of. -- And so do humans. But even when we break down there is always potential in us. Someone will come and say: "I see value in that car! I will fix it and put it back on the road!" The Mechanic will never give up on us, and while He's working, we'll be working.
