If, shortly after Desperada, Marinette had learned of Adrienās huge crush on Ladybug, she probably would have assumed that sometime in the course of Adrienās 25,713 time loops, heād fallen in love with her. And while sheād of course be over the moon to know he loved her back, it would also cause her to spiral over the fact that she has absolutely no idea of what led him to fall for her in the first place. s6 ladrien where ladybug is checking in on adrien. she does this often, and he finds it sweet she still drops in to see how he is. he isn't good, if he's being honest, but he doesn't have to think about that when she's around.
(he doesn't know she checks in on him out of anxiety. if she can't be around him as Marinette for whatever reason, she wants to know if he's found anything out. if he's found out she's a liar.)
one day, though, she can't keep her nervousness in. her stomach is cramping, she's fidgeting with her fingers, ripping up napkins in her lap from their takeaway. she can't go more than a few minutes of him speaking without having to ask him to repeat himself. all she can think about is what she's keeping from him. he keeps asking if she's okay, and she says she is.
so, finally, he confronts her. says he was going to let it slide, but there's something troubling her. she says she can't verbalize it. (when she tries, she feels like throwing up).
so, with a smile, he proposes an idea. "it's one I made for my girlfriend. this worked really well for us."
he raises his left hand and says it's for no. the right is for yes. he'll ask the questions, she can raise her hand in response, no words needed.
is she ready?

The āI want to take care of youā is such a core part of this boy, it comes out whether heās reaching out his hand for her to hold or if heās handing her an umbrella to protect her from the rain. He prioritizes others even when he is hurting inside because he starts to feel better when others feel better too. And while this often has the side effect of him not asking for help with his sorrows, his inclination to offer kindness and support so freely is exactly the thing that helps ground her, that helps her to have the strength to continue forward, that gives her the clarity to know the right thing to doāall of which, in turn, will lead her to give this boy exactly what heās needed all along.

Part 206 of my bakeryĀ āenemiesāĀ au!
THE END!! I can't believe I finally completed this. When I first started this comic, I had no idea that it would end up being this long. A little over 3 years and over 200 parts, so around 2000 panels. (My folder that holds all my files relating to this comic is 3 GB with 2,017 items....). I honestly can't believe that I managed to stick around to the end of this. Thank you all so much for the support, I never imagined that so many people would care about this comic when I started it!
Of course, there are still some loose threads. The kwamis and Nathalie for example, but the core of this series has always been about the emotional conflict between Marinette and Adrien, and that has been resolved. I have some epilogue ideas to cover those loose ends, but this comic has already taken so much of my time and I'm not sure I want to promise that I'll get around to it. ... But who knows. Maybe!
For now, Adrien and Marinette will get some long-deserved rest.

Patterns:
I tend to start with a character arriving at a place and/or performing an action that the reader is already familiar with. Occasionally, the first line will have a nugget of what the main theme of the fic will be (e.g., people disappearing without explanation in the fic where Ladybug disappears without explanation), but this is largely inadvertent on my part. But overall, my openings are pretty barebones, nothing fancy or poetic (which, frankly, are just like the rest of these stories, so at least I'm consistent).
