I need to brainstorm some alternate ways to make art that don't involve needing a steady hand or basically holding a pencil for any amount of time. My arthritis has gotten to a point where I can't really even write by hand anything longer than something Post-it note length.

Anyone have ideas that I could explore? Of course, fingerpainting is an option. I can still do some paper craft, but it just takes me about 100 years because I need to take breaks every five minutes to stretch my fingers out. I've never really tried abstract painting before, I wouldn't know how to even begin. But I guess that's an option?

Any more ideas? I would really, really appreciate it. Sorry for not being active, but I didn't think that within a couple months my disease would progress so quickly.

I've been wanting to try out gouache for the longest time, because it is the most beautiful medium I've ever seen! but I've been SO nervous, so I drew a simple peony, and I'm going to just trace it/carbon-paper copy it multiple times onto watercolor paper to get a hang of the medium (and because I know I'll make a mess of it for a while!).

Patreon has laid off their security team

I know this isn't an update on my interactive fiction game but I just wanted interactive fiction creators and other people who have Patreons to be aware about this issue.

For creators with a Patreon, I would recommend using a password manager to generate a randomly generated password so that when Patreon has (another) security breach, your password will be unique.

For creators that may want to migrate their Patreon content to another website, there is a WordPress plugin that can be used with a WordPress membership plugin that lets patrons access your content like on Patreon.

Ko-fi is also a good alternative that I know a lot of interactive fiction creators use for their work.

Hopefully there won't be any serious security breaches with Patreon but who knows what will happen...

gumroad alternative

I posted this on twitter too, but in light of gumroad shitting the bed I heartily recommend itch for all your pdf-selling needs. I use it and so do friends of mine who do adult work, which it hasn’t choked out (yet lmao). It’s fairly intuitive to use, you can adjust the cut that itch takes from your sales, and they sometimes have creator days where 100% from sales goes directly to you. RECOMMEND.

Oh man, I also have to get started on pisanki designs

not only have tiktok and instagram given everyone who makes art Content Machine disease, but the contentification of the process of making art itself (artists posting hyper-stylized tiktoks & reels about the process of making art, forced jokes about being an artist, and "lifestyle" tips on how to #selfcare (with the express purpose of not burning out so you can continue to make more Content) because that's what the algorithm forces them to do in order to get any eyes on their actual artwork) makes me want to pull my hair out & scream & stab someone. something something the cannibalizing of the tail of the snake by the snake, squared. EVIL
