Stiles let out a sarcastic laugh and flipped his dad off. The sheriff gave him a look, but he didn’t reprimand him, clearly able to tell Stiles was miserable.

I was feeling really crappy today, but then I remembered that there is a place on the internet where people are discussing how some of my favorite fictional characters would react to Barbenheimer, and now I feel better.
For the record, Stiles is a Barbie person and Derek legit doesn’t know what you’re talking about because he hasn’t seen a movie in a decade or more and he tunes it out and reads a book whenever the pack start talking about it.

Comments versus Bookmarks on AO3
A few people seemed appreciative of my post about how to use AO3's Marked for Later feature, so I thought I'd follow up with another tip about comments versus bookmarks.
As part of the amazing @justleaveacommentfest I noticed a few people mentioned leaving nice comments in bookmarks, and I thought it might help to have a little info about how comments are different from bookmarks, and why it's better to send a comment if you want to make an author happy or make fandom friends or have an interesting discussion.
Bookmarks *are* viewable by everyone, unless you make them private. If you plan to say anything negative in your bookmark, please make it private. It's not really the flip side, however, that leaving positive statements in your bookmarks will reach the author, though.
Most authors are alerted when they get new comments, either through their dashboard or via email if they choose, or both. Yay! Serotonin boost, and also the ability to reply back and start a conversation! Plus, readers can have great discussions with each *other* in the comments section of a fic! If you're super into a fic you can read comments on the chapter even years later, and sometimes find the author adding additional thoughts or discussing their thought process while writing! It's like DVD extras for fanfic! (Do kids these days know what DVD extras are any more? Damned if I know).
You don't really know, as an author, when someone bookmarks one of your fics. Some authors, particularly when they are feeling low (cough cough) may also look at bookmarks to see if there are nice things there. This would basically just involve clicking on the bookmarks for each of your fics individually to see if there's anything a.) new and b.) nice in them.
This is an act of desperation. It's not really a wise thing to do, as 99% of bookmarks have no comments, or just list the title and author in fear of the fic being deleted some day and not knowing what you're missing. Even worse, if you, as an author, get desperate enough to cruise your bookmarks, you are as likely to see someone say something like "Meh" or "This got boring so I stopped reading at Chapter 5" or "Too many werewolves 3/10" in a werewolf fic than you are to see a nice compliment.
So, if you loved a fic and want to memorialize your love in a bookmark, be an extra super-duper sweetheart and cut and paste that into a comment for the author! Make the AO3 environment enriching for both authors and fellow readers in the comments section, and protect your friendly local author by not providing intermittent positive reinforcement for the negative behavior of scrolling through bookmarks!
I still recommend bookmarking fics. Bookmark those favorite fics you want to come back and read later, or use bookmarks to leave yourself little reminders if they are nice or in private bookmarks if they are not nice. Bookmark good resources, like how to code things in html or how to use AO3 filters most effectively. Find awesome new things to read by looking through the bookmarks of your favorite authors, because if you vibe with someone's writing you may also vibe with their favorite fics to read!

Windows Chapter 23: Debt
Chapter 23 is posted!
Notes: (Mild Spoiler alert for this chapter!)
This one was hard! I had to use two new voices in this chapter, one of which takes over narration for the last half of the chapter (Peter). Being Peter's voice for such a big chunk was really rough. Dr_girlfriend did an amazing job of writing his perspective, and being in the head of someone so far gone into madness was actually kind of unpleasant for me. As an empath, I really feel the characters as I read them, and Peter's hatred was tough to take on.
This chapter ends on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I will try to get the next one up soon!

What's happening to AO3 right now?
As you may have noticed already, Archive of Our Own is currently down. This is temporary, but unfortunately.. we now know that this is much deeper than we thought.
AO3 is currently the victim of a DDOS attack orchestrated by "Anonymous Sudan"
Why? Because AO3 is home to thousands of LGBTQIA+ content and lots of NSFW content. They're doing this as an Anti-LGBTQ+ attack. If they're doing this for or from America specifically, we're not sure. But this is what AO3 is facing at this time.
What can we do?
Spread the word. Spread the fucking word. I'll be providing updates to my Tumblr page directly from the r/AO3 subreddit. I know that not everyone here is comfortable using Reddit, so I'm taking the blow for you. I cannot access Twitter though.
And please, whatever you do...
Stop using the Archive of Our Own website at this time.
The moderators, showrunners, and service providers all need to repair the damage done by this group. The amount of data flooding in from people trying to log in will cause more problems. Keep yourselves off of the website.

Working on Windows!
Just recorded two more chapters of Windows! I’ve been having trouble finding the motivation to get back into recording after losing my voice to COVID a few months ago. But my voice has fully recovered and I’m excited to be back in front of the microphone!
Not doing Voiceteam this year, because I want to focus on finishing the projects I already have, but I hope everyone who participates has a great time!

Just a quick update to assure everyone that I have NOT abandoned the Windows Podfic! Life stuff happened, then I was distracted by Journey, then more life stuff, and then I got COVID. I’m slowly recovering, but my voice is almost totally gone still 😩 😷. As soon as I can talk normally again, though, I’m coming back to Windows! I promise! After that I’m planning on podding I Know Where Babies Come From, Derek and its sequels, so that will be super fun. Fingers crossed that I can stop coughing and my voice recovers soon.

So excited this is finally released! This project was such a labor of love. It’s a truly amazing story and I am so honored to have been a part of its creation. Making the podfic was definitely an emotional experience, and a journey of its own. The epistolary format is perfect for audio presentation. I really want to do more like that in the future!

Query: Who remembers a website from around 20+ years ago that had a bunch of user-posted fantasy stories and art? Kind of like Deviantart, but with more writings. It had a fairly detailed sorting/filtering system (for the time), similar to AO3 but for original work only, I think? What was that site called? I want to say it started with an E, but I’m not positive.
I remember printing and hand-binding a few stories from that site back when I learned bookbinding in middle school. One was called Trinity I’m pretty sure and it had a half-elf protagonist.

Narrating sex scenes
Okay, have you read chapter 12 of Windows? If not, slight spoiler alert.
This is the filthiest thing I’ve ever read out loud by far. I’ve narrated explicit sex scenes for podfics before, but this is phone sex. You don’t think about it when you’re reading it, but phone sex involves so much more dialog than most other sex scenes! I’ve never really had to think about how I moan so much.
When you’re reading in your head there’s not much difference between
Stiles licked Derek’s nipple.
and
”I want to lick your nipple,” said Stiles.
But saying it aloud is soooo not the same. Listening to it will be different too, trust me. Pure porn. Like 10 minutes of straight-up porn. But not straight, because Sterek.
I actually enjoy the narrating part. That’s just acting, which is fun. It’s the editing that kills me. Listening to myself say “his cock” over and over and over is just awkward.

As a podficcer, I definitely appreciate comments! Even just simple encouragement like “this was great!”. I also like getting feedback about the different voices I use for different characters - like, can you tell which character is speaking, or is it ever unclear? Coming up with voices that are differentiated and consistent is one of the most challenging parts, at least for me. Other things to comment on could be the pace of reading, clarity of audio, or uniformity of recording.
hello i LOVE your blog, it definitly helps against my insecurities both as a consumer of fanwork and as a maker. i recently got into podfics but I dont really know how to comment on them, like I dont have the language to say why I liked someones reading, do you (or any follower of the blog) have any tips what to mention in a podfic comment?
note: podfics are audiobook versions of fanfics, recorded by either the author or another fan or group of fans with the author’s permission
I’ve only recorded podfics of my own stories up to this point, so the comments I get are a combination of story-focused and podfic-focused. Some things that I’ve appreciated receiving:
I love your voice!
You have such great energy when you read
I listened to this while I did the dishes, and I smiled the whole time
I listened to all three chapters on my commute this morning. It was perfect!
I’ve also had comments when I did some “foley work” to add in background noises and things. You could comment on the technical aspects like editing or voice acting. You could say how the reading made you feel or what you were doing while you listened.
Podficcers: what kind of comments do you like to get? What suggestions do you have for podfic commenters?

I have a weakness for the trope where Stiles’ dad finds out about or suspects the Stiles/Derek romance and helps those crazy kids get their heads out of their asses. I’ve been having trouble finding them, because the #SheriffStilinskiShipsIt tag is not commonly used, so I started a collection!
