rohini // mrigashira
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
purva bhadrapada // uttara bhadrapada
from rohini to mrigashira the snake travels thru soul and body and leaves a trail of cosmic essence — rohana shakti (growth; power of creation, giving form to the formless) and prinana shakti (fulfilment; weaving threads of joy, a full cup about to spill)
from p.bhadrapada to u.bhadrapada the snake is granted its own body an existence outside of the realm of the senses — yajamana udyamana shakti (awakening spirituality; the giver, the hand that feeds) and varshodyamana shakti (the rain; the cleansing, the renewal of life)

i think ✨HESTIA (#46)✨ shows the bonfire: where you invite others to join you, where you make them feel welcome (sacred law of hospitality)
while ✨VESTA (#6)✨ shows you the wildfire: the flame you tend for yourself, the fire that keeps *you* warm
if that makes sense!

i've previously mentioned how u.phalgubi does magic using the voice, hasta's magic resides in their writing and magha's in drawing... so let's explore this a little bit more.
this type of magic i'm associating with magha, reminds me of the book "an enchantment of ravens" by margaret rogerson -- in the book we follow isobel, a painter from a small town near a forest that does trading with the fae. in this world the fae cannot produce art even tho they love it, so they seek art from exceptionally talented humans like isobel and pay them back in spells -- often these spells are just glamour, but they make people happy enough! isobel is not happy with this tho she doesn't trust them but she needs their patronage. the story starts when isobel is painting a portrait of a fae named rook, the prince of autumn, she immediately sees that he's sad even tho fae are said to never show emotions... she choses to paint that sadness in her portrait, and that pisses off rook. he decided to take her to the fae courts so she can publicly apologise to him for disrespecting him in that way but she refuses to change the painting because that's what true art feels like to her -- it's honest and it's moving: evoking all sorts of feelings. isobel's ability to soak her paintings with emotions is often talked about by the fae who are all so charmed by the way she does art, not only bc they themselves can't make art but also bc they can see she *sees* thru their glamours and that's fascinating to them. at the end of the book isobel's painting skills are what helps them restore balance to their world, as she has to confront the fae king who's been asleep for a millennia and is not aware of the damage that has done to their world, isobel spend all night painting him and making sure she catches every single detail of an entity that has forgotten what being alive even is -- she's daring him to look at himself and see that he's not a benevolent king but a selfish ruler who brought pain to his people. when she shows him the portrait he doesn't even recognise himself at first but as soon as he does he starts removing his guards and breaks down in grief as he's confronted with that reality of him not being an all-powerful being.
in this book i see isobel representing the power of magha to not only use art to channel magic, but also as it's represented by the throne of royalty and has associations with honour and respect, which is something isobel has amassed even with the fae who don't much care for mortals like her.
this use of painting/drawing for magic reminds me also of the hollywood medium, tyler henry who's famous for doing his sessions while doodling on a piece of paper! he says he's only doing it to clear up his mind and make sure the messages don't get tangled. he says he's not using any type of automatic drawing, he just needs to focus while contacting the spirits! tyler henry actually does have a magha asc! which is very interesting considering his psychic abilities are used to contact his clients' ancestors -- pitris (the deified ancestors) being magha's deity!
magha's shakti [power] is tyage shepani shakti [the power to leave the body] and although tyler doesn't really enter that type of trance, he has talked about his experiences with astral projection and sleep paralysis that started when he was little. in the book i mentioned earlier, there's a moment where isobel too leaves her body and after she comes back she sees the fae court much more clearly than before. she's gained knowledge, just like tyler henry when he astral projects.
there's a lot more i could add about stories or people who use drawing/painting/sketching/doodling to manifest abundance but for now i'll leave it here! kisskiss.

rohini and the blossoming of the snake
so i've been thinking about how the last stage of rohini becomes ashlesha and how they're both already connected by the snake: rohini's yoni is a snake, and ashlesha's deity is the nagas (divine serpents).
there's this metaphorical connection between eve in the garden of eden and rohini we often mention, like they represent the same character: living in the garden, unaware of everything and kept in a pristine little ecosystem in all her innocence. often people refer to rohini as the "baby stage" of lunar nakshatras, where we're learning to process and receive our first tidbits of information about the world... but ever notice how the last pada of rohini shifts into ashlesha? my theory is that that's her journey: at some point she needs to become that snake everyone is trying to keep her away from, she eventually needs to find the snake inside her (yoni) and fully embrace it! i believe that contrary to what some may suggest, rohini's journey is not always about permanently leaving the garden but about reclaiming the garden she needs to gain the secret knowledge that's been kept hidden from her; basically instead of staying the little princess weaving flower crowns, at some point rohini needs to realise she made those flowers, and everything else in there is made by her and it's her right to keep them. that's when she becomes the snake of the secret knowledge.
as my friend thana summarised: rohini needs to embody the energy of creation (gifted to her by brahma) and just push forward and show people what she's capable of, instead of staying compliant and letting people take away her agency.
now the real interesting part of this is how rohini pada 4 is actually ruled by moon in navamsha, and that can mean that the other nakshatras falling into the sign of cancer could represent stages of this journey! and in here we're gonna mention punarvasu as well: with rohini changing to punarvasu we can talk about how part of the journey is feeling lost and like all hope is gone... but thanks to the guidance of aditi the themes of a fresh beginning after losing everything and starting a new life are also found in this nakshatra. another theme of punarvasu is short journeys! so with this we can theorise that, as the story goes, rohini (characterised by eve) needs to leave the garden. her happy days are gone, she needs to leave everything she's even known and venture outside her garden... in here is where the lily myth happens, i think: the myth goes that as eve (rohini, for us) leaves the garden crying those tears rolling down her cheeks become lily flower as soon as they hit the ground... and if she looks down and sees the flowers? then what? rohini now has 2 options: 1.- she embraces the next stage of her life as mrigashira, continues crying and just leaves everything behind walking around the bare lands tired of walking but not having where to stop (and eventually if the the feeling of desolation doesn't stop it becomes ardra, entering the second stage of grief: anger, rolling around like a bouquet of stormy clouds) 2.- when she sees her tears are becoming flowers (the lily story) she realises it was all her doing, and she can't leave her creation behind. she realises she didn't only live in the garden: she made that garden! she was the creative force that made the flowers! she wasn't tempted by the snake... she was the snake all-along! that's how she regains her light-- by embracing the part of herself people told her she had to repress and keep away from. and and as the snake and the garden are actually the same being, she can't be exiled.
now she has accessed the secret knowledge of her reality so now she was the truth. and she gets to keep it-- all of it, because it's rightfully hers.
this reminds me how in the rohini nakshatra video by claire nakti, she mentiones how often this nakshtra is found in the trope of "born sexy yesterday" this is what the site the mary sue says about the pop culture detective’s “born sexy yesterday” video exploring this trope:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you check the examples of the trope it mentions: rohini moon native daryl hannah in splash, rohini rising amy adams in enchanted, and even kim basinger who has a sagittarius stellium with dispositor being rohini jupiter in my stepmother is an alien!
interesting how again her innocence is in some way weaponised against her by others who want her to remain like that: docile and bendable to their own wishes, toying with her. draining her creative energy, using it for their own gains. rohini as persephone exploring the shadows to find her light has also been talked about several times by a friend and it's fascinating seeing how all of the themes keep reappearing in many different ways, always about someone wanting to ensnare this archetypical character, and so i think exploring the darkness or chasing the truth is a theme in the rohini journey. this can also be attributed to the fascination many rohini have for the sciences (uncovering how the world works) or gardening (exploring how nature works) or arts (uncovering what beauty is).
i'm not saying that eventually rohini will for sure find her truth and become the snake, i've already mentioned there's several steps that can make the journey take longer or even change it altogether as it's in her flighty mind's nature to want to explore all she can. i feel like the obstacles of the rohini journey are seen clearly in the lyrics or "pure imagination" from charlie and the chocolate factory:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
and it's also interesting to see how in some occasions, like alice in wonderland, rohini leaves on her journey and comes back to her garden, but stays the same all-along and no acquisition of truth takes place as she just enjoys the adventure!

i've been saying for a while how uttara phalguni (especially the virgo side) have the ability to infuse their words with magic: their glamour spells are hidden in their use of spoken word and intonation, just like hasta infuse their magic into written word.
i think one of the best examples of infusing magic and glamour into spoken words is shahrazad , from one thousand and one nights! i feel like she embodies several elements we can easily find attached to uttara phalguni. in the story the monarch discovers that his wife was unfaithful to him and decides to marry a new virgin every day and have her beheaded the next morning... once the vizier could not find any more virgins of noble blood he's forced to bring his own daughter, shahrazad. u. phalguni is said to be very cool and calm even in extremely challenging circumstances, just like shahrazad was when her father brought her to the monarch. she was fully aware of her fate but instead of panicking she kept herself calm and collected. of shahrazad we know that she "had perused the works of the poets and knew them by heart; she had studied philosophy and the sciences, arts, and accomplishments; and she was pleasant and polite, wise and witty, well read and well bred." all archetypes that we can relate to u.phal! with virgo being a mutable sign and fond of the arts guarded by the planet mercury of knowledge, i could see how this placement could give someone the drive to dive deep into books and education. shahrazad was smart and sharp, with a strategic mindset. the first night she told the monarch she wanted to bid farewell to her little sister if she was to be beheaded in the morning, a wish he granted and allowed dinazade to come into their bedroom to say goodbye to her sister. unbeknownst to him tho, the younger sister was a trap: dinazade had been instructed to come into the room and beg her older sister for one last story before they had to be separated forever. and that's how it all started! the second night it was just shahrazad and the king, and it continued that way for one thousand and one nights. by the end of the 1000th story shahrazad confessed she had no more tales to tell the king, but by then he was so enthralled and charmed by her and her voice and her mind he could not bear the thought of killing her, so he let her live and she became queen.
uttara phalguni embodies chayani shakti "the giving of prosperity through marriage or union" which once again seems to fit this story well as the main characters gained a lot of power thru this union! one of the key motivations of this nakshatra is towards helping others and as such they're are very cultured, social and civilised just like shahrazad is shown to be in the story. in a way, her plan to not get herself killed also saved countless of other young girls because as long as she had the king entertained he wouldn't kill her and thus would not be out there looking for other women to punish for his wife's betrayal. so the theme of u. phalguni using their charm and wit to help is strong in here!

aquarius and the element of lightning
Tumblr media
i was inspired by this tweet i've screenshot and added here, and then went on a little ramble about how if we were to consider lighting as an astrological element we should assign it to aquarius. however not only stopping there but i would also say that their interpretation of lighting being "powerful yet terrifying" should still be applied, right now -- even if we don't have the element per se, to whatever house or planet is ruled by aquarius in your chart. read my explanation of why aquarius and let me know what you think!
aquarius is a sign that's closely related to thunder and lighting and electricity in general, both in tropical and vedic (we'll talk later) but also as general archetype of such energy. this sign is in the axis with leo, a fire sign -- lighting is a combination of hot air (dry, fire: leo) and cold air (wet, ethereal: aquarius) meaning that axis could be taken as the genesis of thunder/lightning. in wǔxíng [chinese philosophy] the element of wood is closely related with ☴ 'the wind' [風/风] and ☳ 'the thunder' [雷] and this elements, although usually correlated to jupiter, is described as "warm, generous, co-operative and idealist" which are all aquarius characteristics as we understand this sign in astrology. in chinese medicine the element of wood is correlated with feelings of anger and optimism (related to leo), patience and altruism (related to aqua).
in tropical astrology aquarius is related to thunder/lightning via the modern rulership or uranus over this sign, which is the planet that rules over electricity and electric currents both in nature and man-made. but also: saturn, the planet traditionally ruling aquarius has been found to have a strong electrical charge: "Deep down inside, the liquid hydrogen is compressed to such high pressures that it conducts electricity like a metal" now, one could argue about capricorn being the thunder bringer of the zodiac based on the chinese element of wood and saturn's electric charge, and how capricorn is a saturn ruled earth sign. there's definitely room for this idea; however i'm not sold on that, based on the fact that capricorn doesn't have a clear connection to "ether/qi" as aquarius does.
once again back to wǔxíng we find the element of metal/gold [金] is closely associated with meteoric iron and refers also to ether (aquarius) and is correlated into the western world with "air", supporting the aquarius theory.
now in vedic astrology aquarius is a fixed air sign ruled by saturn just like in tropical astrology, however instead of having a co-rulership with uranus, here we find saturn co-rules aquarius with the north node -- rahu. rahu, just like uranus even though they *are not* the same, do share rulership over electronics and electricty. and thus aquarius is a sign connected to that both in tropical and vedic even if it's a different recipe -- a semi-sweet vs sweet chocolate chip cookie debacle, really. i would also like to make a note of how one of the aquarius nakshatras, dhanishtha, is symbolised by the drums. drumming has always been associated in music and theatre with the sound of thunder. not only that but in the shinto religion we can find raijin [雷神] who is a god of lightning, thunder and storms and it's depicted with a fierce expression (just like rahu) and beating drums (symbol of dhanishtha nakshatra) which once again brings up the connection between drumming and thunder, and thus the sign of aquarius.
not only raijin is a god of thunder who carries drums, leishen [雷神] is a chinese god who carries a drum and mallet to produce thunder, as his wife dianmu/leizi [電母] is the chinese goddess of lightning who is said to use flashing mirrors to create lightning. they work together in the skies to create electric storms.

what if your moon’s moon (moon persona chart) is related to your type of self-care or self-soothing?
like someone who has an aquarius moon may think, at first glance, that their way of caring for themselves is maybe spending time consuming media: on their phone, reading articles, watching youtube... and that may be fine and dandy but what if they check their moon persona chart and see that maybe their aqua moon has a little cancer or virgo moon!? what if that ads an extra layer to self-care, and we go from sitting on the couch watching youtube to watching some interior design program while taking a relaxing bath with candles, thus satisfying their moon and their moon's moon?

asteroid erynia
the erinyes [Ἐρινύες] aka the furies are female deities of vengeance in greek mythology. they're often seen as a counterpart of aphrodite as they were born during the same event*, but while aphrodite was born from uranus' sperm touching the ocean the furies were born from uranus' blood touching the earth. this counterpart theory isn't exactly accurate but it's interesting from an elemental pov: seed + water = love & beauty blood + earth = rage & ire
*there're several different myths about the creation of the furies: some say they were daughter of goddess nyx (the night) but one thing they all agree on is that they were 3 sisters: alecto ("the implacable anger") megaera ("the jealous one") tisiphone ("the voice of revenge") interesting to note that even tho they're all said to be maiden goddesses, tisiphone is also said to be a facet of demeter when she's being called to serve as a divine judge -- often times demeter was referred as erinys as well. (but that's a story for another time)
even though the furies evoke images of blood-red rage and being blinded by it they were more often than not called upon people who had committed heinous acts: matricides, parricides, fratricides, homicides... they were there to inflict severe justice but never unjustly so. with this little introduction i'm working up to explain my little theory that asteroid erynia (#889) shows the area of our lives where we're likely to be seen as wrathful even though we're actually delivering justice! the placement (or transits) of this asteroid could show us when/how/where we may seem brash and blood-thirsty, but that reaction it's not uncalled for. it could also show the type of situations where our actions could be described as “vindictive” — both simmering, slow-burn revenge plan and white rage actions could be described here!

i feel this tbh but i think it's so funny how leo is the traditional ruler of baldness AND in vedic astrology the sun is said to be "of little hair on his head" 😭
So if Leo doesn't rule hair they tell me how is it that every time I trim my mullet when Moon is in Leo, it looks BOMB AF

Adoption & Astrology
Those who know me know i've been interested in the topic of adoption since i was very young, so it's no surprise that when i got into astrology i was interested in looking at several things related to it. mainly i wanted to know why i was so interested in this topic, and then how would this show up in the charts of people who had been adopted. this is not a full study as of yet because i'm still finding stuff related to it while doing other types of research, but so far what i have gathered is the following:
in a little sample study of 88 adopted children it was found that the most common moon placement was libra moon, particularly in 4H. unsurprisingly, taurus moon, the exaltation point of moon, was found to be the least common! when it comes to aspects, they found the conjunction, square, or opposition of sun and moon are very common, followed by uranus conjunct moon, then uranus conjunct ascendant and mars conjunct pluto are the absolute highest placed aspects. not surprising either that those aspect can signify extreme changes, unexpected events, and transit in which moon, as the natural significator of home and family, are not in great shape... Interestingly, though, after noticing this i've also noticed these patterns in the charts of people who were not adoptees but did have difficult relationship with their immediate family. even for people with libra moons that i've talked with they all expressed some type of disconnected feeling from their parents, or being raised by other family members, even sometimes living far away from their parents for some part of their formative years. while researching this from a vedic point of view i found astrologer joni patry, who said jupiter, karaka of children in vedic astrology, placed in 5H (also associated with children) could very much mean the person either will not want kids or maybe just won’t have them... however i found something interesting: jupiter in retrograde in 5H could override this prediction, as it's often the case with natal retrograde planets, and be indicative of becoming a parent specifically through adoption. furthermore, looks like any planet in retrograde that’s in 5H could show the person being interested in adoption from a young age! now in vedic astrology there's certain nakshatras and planets that could show this interest in having children by non-biological means, such as rohini nakshatra being associated with surrogacy and fostering of other's children because of her relation to krishna, who was born under the influence of rohini and raised by surrogate parents. once again, though, jupiter is brought up in the themes of adoption and surrogacy! following the myth of how chandra (the moon) seduced tara (guru/jupiter’s wife) resulting in the birth of budh (mercury) whom guru (jupiter) chose to accept as his own son when tara returned. after finding this myth and this information provided by joni patry, personally i would go ahead and say that while any planet in retrograde could mean the native will be interested in adoption, jupiter and mercury could show the strongest desires to adopt more so if they're aspected by or conjunct moon in 5H. also worth talking about how anuradha sharda, when talking about prashna kundali (horary astrology) mentions looking at the following in the rashi chart (d1): lagna, 8H+8HL, 10H+10HL, saturn; not as indicators of adoptions, but to see if this wish will be fulfilled. a particularly well placed saturn + strong 10H would mean there’s good karma to be fulfilled between you and this child you’re trying to adopt, and that it would probably go well! however it’s still important to check the whole chart to make sure, maybe even creating a composite chart of the parents and the child(ren). another interesting house to look into when talking about this topic is the 11H. this house traditionally rules adoption, so it maybe can give you insight on the child you may adopt. interestingly kapiel raj also mentioned the time during jupiter mahadasha or the mahadasha of the 5HL or 11HL between ages 18 to 42, could also be indicative of *when* you’re having children/becoming a parent. so once again we can see how jupiter is tied to parenthood and how it became the karaka of children.
as i've mentioned earlier i'm still not done doing research on this topic and will be updating this post in the future when i find more information. i'm also planning on analysing the charts of some of clients who were adopted as children or who have adopted siblings to gain some "everyday" insights on how all this information plays out (or doesn't play out at all!). any questions you may have on this topic, feel free to submit them and i'll try to help you!

a few years ago i heard an astrologer say that people who's initial reaction to conflict or stress is to get sleepy do so because of neptunian influence; either neptune in 1H/12H/6H/8H, or strong aspects to those + moon
i've read several articles about how sleep plays a very important role in how we store our memories in a very deceptive way just as we could expect from neptune casting illusions on life. that comes into play a lot when talking about memory-consolidation, which is a process that occurs during sleep in which your mind starts storing your memories. basically it's thru sleeping that your memories "become real" and thus sleep troubles are closely related to trauma responses...
now, i don't have the knowledge or training required to get deep in this topic so i will not, but i'll mention that what this all means is that for some people stress can trigger past memories of helplessness (re: learnt helplessness) and so they start getting the signal that they need to go to sleep because "there's nothing you can do anyway" which in turn starts training your body and mind to react that way every time you get the stress trigger. this can impact your memory processing abilities too because while you're sleeping you are not processing whatever generated that trigger, so even tho you wake up feeling like you did... you did not, and sleeping has likely distorted how you remember the events.
going back to neptune: this all related to the way it's described as casting a fog on people who are under its influence, and also as the traditional ruler of sleep it makes sense that reality distortion "depends" on sleep. like for example, salvador dalí and his painting of real objects and images that have been distorted and thus look like dreamscapes -> he had neptune in 1H. max ernst also known for distorting reality in his art -> neptune in 12H. joan miró was famous for distorting reality to the point of needing to reconstruct it again -> neptune asp. moon. remedios varo and her paintings of dreamlike scenes that played also with blurring reality -> neptune sext. asc!
