Fandom PSA: Uncomfortable topics can be handled with care and serve a purpose in fiction (that is not to cater to creeps)

If people take the time to just sit down, think, listen, and talk things out, a lot of drama would be prevented and a lot of problems would be solved. Which is why I’m asking people to please hear me out, and read this from start to finish.

Before you proceed, please read the warning and do not harass anyone mentioned in this post.

There’s a quote by Banksy that goes as follows: “Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable.”

Unfortunately, that saying has been twisted around by individuals like Sh4dman to excuse the vile crap he posted.

We’re so used to stumbling upon the vile crap that enables, glorifies, fetishizes and contributes to the normalization of incest, pedophilia and zoophilia, that we don’t realize that the issues of incest, child predation, child grooming, child sexual abuse and animal sexual abuse and other uncomfortable topics can (and should) be handled with care and presented the way they should be presented: as vile and horrific. Please be careful how you write or incorporate that fucked up shit in your stories, because otherwise you could wind up catering to predators.

Whomever says “don’t investigate” would only be doing more harm than good, because you shouldn’t be taking claims and accusations at face value. One time I saw someone spread claims about a person without looking into the situation and the person those claims were about, it turned out that the situation was twisted around to paint the person in a bad light and the things spread about them were misinformation if not outright disinformation! So please don’t take stuff at face value. If you’re unable to investigate such a situation for any reason at all, please don’t spread what could potentially be false information.

Sometimes, you gotta ask questions like “What?” and “Why?”, and listen.

Spoilers for Keebsification’s Trolls fanfic Out the Train Wreck

I came upon @keebsification’s Trolls fanfic series Out the Train Wreck when I was browsing Trolls fanfics. It and the art she made for it compelled me to read it.

In Out the Train Wreck, John Dory is Branch’s dad who had him when he was a teenager. Branch was conceived when Bold, BroZone’s manager and the villain of the story, raped John after threatening him into compliance by threatening harm to his little brothers.

When I read a particular chapter in which Bold attempts to rape John Dory, I initially saw red and didn’t understand the point of the scene. After taking a few days to cool off and think, I looked back on the fic and took note that aside from the underage rape attempt scene, there are no scenes in which Bold rapes John Dory, and Keebs made it clear in the story that what Bold is doing to John is horrible and the latter is traumatized by what Bold is doing to him. I started thinking that maybe that scene serves a purpose, but I was still uncertain and had mixed feelings about it, so I anonymously reached out to Keebs for her perspective and insight, and we had a nice productive conversation. I’ve learned that that particular scene does in fact serve a purpose: it was for the buildup of suspense that leads up to another character stepping in and thwarting Bold, and it’s not meant to be predator wank material.

When you see certain tags on Keebs’ fic on AO3, please don’t take them at face value. She added them there in case people thought differently of the underage rape attempt scene. She said so herself.

Trolls AU idea: Brood Dad Floyd

What if Floyd is a dad to a brood of kids? Not as big a brood as Bruce's, but still...

If my troll reproduction HC applies, he had to have scored quite a few lucky trolls (and healthy trolls, in cases of those who laid his eggs) who also wanted kids like he did.

If Trolls can evolve into mixed-genre trolls...

Floyd, who was probably around Rock trolls, would've evolved from Pop to Pop-Rock.

Cooper, a Funk troll raised by Pop trolls, evolved from Funk to Funk-Pop.

And if trolls evolve into mixed-genre trolls, their appearances would have to reflect that.

I'm gonna have to come up with some redesigns for Cooper and alter Floyd's just a bit.

Meet Jake, another Funk-Rock Troll inspired by @zivazivc's OC Flea.

Jake is Reuben's older brother. He's the leader, manager and bassist of Stardust Dice. He's a rocker and a rapper because, like I said in my Tyrese post, I refuse to believe Prince D is the first Hip-Hop/Rapper of his tribe!

When Stardust Dice was just a ragtag group of kids, Jake would try to keep his brother and the twins Beck and Biff out of trouble and keep them from going too far in their mischief, and was often pushy about it. However, he was never above things like pulling a chocolate pudding heist (that Floyd may or may not have been roped into 🤭) with the group at their local school at night on a weekend.

Jake's bossiness carried into Stardust Dice's activities when they became a band, but he would ease up thanks to Floyd's intervention.

Side note: Jake is Floyd's age while the rest of Stardust Dice is three years younger.

Jake is a chill dude when he's not under stress nor pissed off while under the influence of alcohol.

Jake started smoking when he was 18 (his two moms and dad wouldn't let him and Reuben smoke or drink until they reached that age). It helps calm the nerves and relieve stress from managing the band, keeping his bandmates outta trouble, or being in crowded areas for too long (when he's not high or drunk). That habit would come back to bite him in the ass in the form of headaches, coughing fits, breathing problems, and addiction.

As time went on, Jake's role as the wrangler and his bandmates' as the ones needing to be kept out of trouble would be reversed as he got deeper into drugs.

As indicated by Jake's tail, his dreadlocks aren't natural. Here's what it looked like when he was a kid before he had it done.

Here's what Jake's fur pattern looks like without the fuzz effects:

Jake is also inspired by D Smoke during his part in Rare Americans' "Rythm Kitchen". Which reminds me, Jake can cook a mean dish, but he can be a bitch in the kitchen when it comes to sanitation and making sure the food isn't ruined. In fact, he keeps the hair band on his wrist (plus a few spares in his mane) so he would tie his hair up at any moment when he's about to cook or clean.

Fun fact: When Jake was a kid, he had a squeaky voice which would later shift to a baritone as he went through puberty.

Guys, how do you upload pictures onto TikTok without them turning out small? I uploaded one of mine on there after saving it on my android phone and it turned out small when I checked it through my computer. I tried looking up how to fix the problem, but google is no help at all!

Sentimental Troll!Veneer Idea (with a side of Cannibalism)

Inspired by @ohposhers's shitpost and @ezhiaray's post based on the shitpost (guys, chill! It's not ship art!).

When Velvet and Veneer notice similarities between Floyd and their late father, they become wistful.

Whereas Veneer thinks about how his dad would feel if he knew what Velvet and Veneer had been doing, reflects on his and his sister's actions, and thus changes his ways accordingly; Velvet angrily doubles down, seeking to stomp out these awful feelings brought upon by Floyd's similarities to her dad.

Upon tasting the extracted talent by mistake, Velvet feels a rush of joy as well as Floyd's talent running through her veins. She opts to take Floyd's talent through another method: eating him.

When Veneer sees his father figure down a leg and realizes what Velvet is doing, he takes Floyd and GTFOs at the first opportunity.

All that could be symbolic of the twins seeing an opportunity to turn over a new leaf and turn their lives around: whereas Velvet pushes it away, Veneer embraces it and goes through that door before it closes on him forever.

Some moron apparently built a bot to annoy or prank hundreds of authors.

There is no scanning process, your work doesn't actually resemble AI writing, it's all bullshit. Mark the comment as spam (on AO3, not the email notification you got about the comment!) and don't let it get to you.

--We didn’t ask for any of that! We never asked to be made!! Where was all that love and care these past ten years? Where was that these past FIVE YEARS?!!

No kid should ever have to go through such hardship, especially not at such a young age as you were…

This takes place in a universe in which Floyd mans up and takes those kids in after being reminded of their existence and informed of their situation. There are some other things that sets this AU apart from Ziva’s but I’m not gonna spoil any more than I probably already am. Plus, the AU is still a work-in-progress.

The kids are sent straight to Pop Village after the events of Trolls World Tour, and all of BroZone is informed of the kids’ existence after ancestry test results come out.

Why’s Eddy M pissed at Floyd, you may wonder? It’s because Eddy M knows Floyd knew of his and Ravin’s existence from the start and didn’t bother being part of their lives until Floyd was reminded of their existence and informed about their situation. Ravin knows that too, but she’s more upset that she’s reliving the trauma she and her brother underwent.

In the Mirverse, Eddy M and Ravin’s Techno dad died when they were five, and their Techno grandparents, whom they thought loved them, shunted them off to the Techno foster system where they were mistreated for being half-Pop.

The kids are supposed to be ten years old in this. If Floyd is thirteen when BroZone split, in his mid-twenties when he had those two eggs with that Techno troll, then he should be in his mid-thirties in this (at least in the Mirverse and according to my headcanons). If you notice the kids’ heights are possibly inconsistent for a ten-year-old, please ignore this error because I was too late to fix it. Maybe their time in the shitty-ass Techno foster system stunted their growth?

Wondering about Eddy M’s bandages? Well, all I’m gonna say is that Eddy M ran into trouble and got hurt. And nope, it wasn’t during his and Ravin’s time in the Techno foster system.

As for the clothes the kids are wearing? They were gifted those clothes when they were in the much nicer Pop Village foster home/orphanage.

Notice Floyd’s tattoo? The flowers are forget-me-nots, which I picked for a symbolic meaning that's literally in the name. I’m gonna let you try to figure out the rest (; btw the tattoo design isn't finalized, so it's subject to change.

Oh, and I hope you don’t mind the alterations and errors in Eddy M and Ravin’s designs. I was almost done with the pic so it was too late to fix those errors (the bangs and eyebrows), I’ll try to rectify that and see if I can make those details work next time I draw those two. As for the alterations, I wanted to simplify Ravin’s skin for ease of drawing and I struggled to make Eddy M’s Techno troll teeth work.
