[ Babel Spoilers and Overanalysis ahead]
Despite my life being in literal pieces, I unfortunately can't read just to 'enjoy'. I must torment myself with little details and take notes so here I am.
We rarely get a good representation of people of my kind in English books so Ramy in Babel is a little too beloved to me. Thankfully I have had some time to get over the fact that I spoiled his end myself and now I look for little things that may have hinted it. I haven't finished Babel yet, I'm barely halfway through so I could honestly just be aiming at nothing here.
The near end of Chapter 14 of Book Three had a part where the babblers were walking through a graveyard. This is where they saw Evie Evelyn Brooke's tombstone. Just a few moments ago, Robin noticed that Ramy had said a silent dua. Now who knows, it could be Ayat ul Kursi which we Muslims often recite to kind of, not feel fear but I assume it was the very specific dua that we make while passing by a graveyard.
Which is as follows;
The translation goes;
Oh Muslims residing here, salaams on you, by the will of Allah we will also be coming to you. We seek safety for us and you.
Now it could be simply because I know Ramy's going to die but if Rebecca Kuang really meant this dua, I'll really be so happy. Everyone loves a little representation, right? Nothing wrong with that. But it's simply rare to see representation and detail.
I seriously have to thank R.F Kuang.

I think that Ramiz Rafi Mirza (Ramy) having a name similar to the Urdu poet Mirza Muhammad Rafi Sauda, him talking about Ghazals which are precisely Sauda's area of expertise (including Qasidas) and him having been to Lucknow the death place of Sauda might not have been unintentional. I wish I could hold R.F. Kuang's hand and kiss it.
If it was unintentional, what an accidental genius.

My honest reasons for buying Babel:
1. A friend I talked to after a long time asked if I had read it already since it was my "type of book" but I hadn't, it made me feel like an imposter. I questioned myself for several nights, if I don't do what I like am I really living a life that is my own? Does that kind of life have any meaning to it?
2. cover pretty

a dude came into the library stoned out of his mind and was like, “do I need a library card to look at books?” And I said, “to take books home, yes. To look at them, no” and he looked so relieved. bro was staring at a fish encyclopedia for like an hour and then just left.

One of my favourite scenes in The Secret History is when Camilla and Richard are leaving a party to go to Francis’s country house, and Francis steps out of the shadows and goes “boo.” Wasn’t expecting that from him, it was an endearing moment between the three and I am delighted every time I reread it

seeing book reviews criticising TSH on the flowery, overtly pretentious language is so funny to me... like that's the point.. homie got sucked into all this shit because he thought the brochure was pretty... he knows jack shit about the girl he loves because he only "falls in love" because she's beautiful... when he gets shot his first thought is goddamn I spent hours earning money for this shirt and now it's got a bullet hole... what did you expect....

People I recommend The Secret History to sometimes complain about how the book would have been so good if Donna Tartt kept the mystery of the murder until the act actually happened.
I disagree.
You wouldn't know the amount of times I felt glee knowing it was Bunny who was going to die. Every time Bunny was being a twat I would smile to myself thinking, "You're dead meat. Literally."
