Doctor Beverly Crusher @SpaceDocMom I'm writing all of you a prescription for at least one little bit of joy today. It can be tiny. It can be something you don't think anyone else would count. It doesn't have to negate your depression, your sadness, your trauma, or your pain. It can be a single sparkle. emojis: black heart, blue heart, masked, spoon, sparkle 3:19 PM · Apr 28, 2024

I'm cis and I'm here to protect the rights of anyone of any gender who looks like anything and wears anything of any style at any time.
But the way to get my respect is simple: wear a fucking mask (especially, if possible, an N95/FFP2/KN95 or higher) in public, especially indoors, especially-especially in clinical environments. Over your mouth AND nose.
Because all genders also come in the flavour of "medically vulnerable" and LGBTQ+ folks are more likely to be medically vulnerable and medically under-served. So mask the fuck up for intersectional rights for all.
That's how I respect trans people: by caring about their lives, not their clothes or bodily aesthetics.
"i respect trans people" do you?
do you respect trans people who look like their agab, whether they want to or not?
do you respect transfems with body/facial hair? transfems who don't wear makeup or dresses or skirts? transfems with low voices? transfems with short hair?
and do you respect transmascs who don't bind? transmascs who wear makeup or dresses or skirts? transmascs with high voices? transmascs with long hair?
do you respect trans people who don't "pass"?

girl typing a very specific question into google search bar, scrunching her face as she takes time to make sure she hasn't made any spelling errors, hitting enter, shaking her head as google only presents her with unhelpful websites that don't answer her query at all, moving her cursor back to the search bar and clicking on it so she can carefully write 'reddit' at the end, hitting enter again, sighing with relief as she finds a link to a reddit post asking the exact question she needed answered posted in a subreddit for a very niche topic, finally moving her cursor to click on the link, wondering why she didn't go straight to the subreddit earlier, only to be met with a deleted comment with a reply from the OP stating 'that was very helpful, thanks', sighing with frustration as she moves her cursor back to the search bar so she can copy the link and paste it into the wayback machine,

Wear what makes you happy and give no fucks for haters.
This is one of the most important bits of wisdom I have learned in my 51 years on this planet.
BE A GOOD PERSON AND GIVE NO FUCKS FOR HATERS.
do other fat people worry they look weird in pretty clothes outside so they wear more toned outfits and less colorful ones too or is it just me

"I hate kids" is just as bigoted as "I hate [any demographic]". It's ageism. It's bigotry. No excuses, do better.
Anyone attempting to defend this bigotry to me gets blocked same as terfs, racists, misogynists, etc.
children existing in public spaces is genuinely like. necessary for the continuation of society. it doesnt have to be your kids you dont have to volunteer at a daycare or whatever but you need to be able to tolerate the presence of someone who is learning how to exist as a human and interact with people

Picked up by Lower Decks as "buffer time".
one of the best tips for Real Life that I’ve ever picked up is to always highball your estimate whenever someone asks you “when can you get this done by” by about 25% (if you can get away with it). that way, if it ends up being harder than you thought, you’ve got extra time to figure things out and if you were right about how much time it takes then you get to look like an absolute genius instead of just a simply competent person.
what you may not have realized is that I learned this crucial piece of life advice from an episode of Star Trek where Scotty is telling Geordi that whenever he told Kirk something on the Enterprise was at full capacity, it was always only ever a notch or so below full capacity so that Scotty looked like the god of all engineers when he was able to magically hack the warp drive to run a little beyond what he’d told everyone else was “full capacity” and honestly that one throwaway gag from Star Trek has changed my life.

Reading a book about slavery in the middle-ages, and as the author sorts through different source materials from different eras, I am starting to understand why so many completely fantastical accounts of "faraway lands" went without as much as a shrug. The world is such a weird place that you can either refuse to believe any of it or just go "yeah that might as well happen" and carry on with your day.
There was this 10th century arab traveller who wrote into an account that the fine trade furs come from a land where the night only lasts one hour in the summer and the sun doesn't rise at all in the winter, people use dogs to travel, and where children have white hair. I don't think I'd believe something like that either if I didn't live here.
