For the WIP folder game: 9. Maglor Indebted
Also hi! I hope you're having a good evening (or day or afternoon depending on when you see this) :)
Maglor woke slowly, comfortably, safe and warm inside of a cave, tucked away from the storm he could hear raging outside of the small rocky haven. It was perhaps the most terrifying experience of the third age.
The last thing he could remember was pulling the Orcs blade out of his leg, and the surprise he felt at the speed and amount of  blood that came flowing out of it. Then the cool dampness of the rocky ground as he collapsed onto it against his will, just managing to roll himself over to look up at the stars as he died.
“Ah, it's about time that you awoke.” There were a few shuffling steps and then a metal spoon was held to his lips, “It’s water, you must be parched.”
As a rule, Maglor did not accept much of anything from anybody. Under any circumstances. The only consistent exception to this rule was Elrond, and this young blonde woodelf was certainly not Elrond.
But… He was very thirsty.
The blond elf sighed, “If I wanted to harm or kill you, I would have simply left you on the rock where I found you. Or traded you to the nearby Goblin population for safe passage for the remainder of the year.” The spoon was pressed to his lips again, “I’d never waste my time on something so unreliable as poison.”
He slowly sipped the water from the spoon, practically choking on it when his mind was finally able to come up with the only identity that could have possibly belonged to his mysterious savior: Legolas Thranduilion.
The realization did nothing to quell the fears that still gripped at his heart from the moment that he woke.
(Hi! I'm having a wonderful evening, thank you so much. I hope that you're also having a wonderful day/night! Thanks for the ask and stay safe out there! <3)

Thranduil isn't unkind, he's just unfriendly.
Unfortunately for him, a lot of people seem to view the words to mean nearly the same thing.
An unkind person would not have saved the dwarves when they trespassed in his forest and kept them well fed (even by dwarven standards) regardless how unhelpful and rude they had been to him and his people. An unkind person would not have rushed to the aid of a human village, an unkind person would not have taken Gollum from Aragorn and treat him with pity. An unkind person would not have been chosen to be King of a good and kindly people. An unkind person could not have withstood the darkness in Dol Guldur as long as he did. An unkind person would not have raised a son like Legolas.
An unkind person usually goes out of their way to be unkind, Thranduil has many opportunities to do so. And never really does.
That doesn't mean however, that he's friendly. He won't sugar coat anything no matter who he's talking to, according to some he's blunt and direct to a fault. Like a bolt of lightening.
He isnt here to make friends, he has enough friends.
He sees no reason for pleasantry chit-chat with people he doesn't know or barely tolerates in the name of being 'Polite.' If he doesn't care about something, you will know very quickly. He isn't here 'to be the bigger person,' there's no time for that. He's here to get shit done, and get it done quickly and accurately. Because there's always at least seven other things wanting his attention.
And if he hurts your feelings, or ignores all the expected pleasantries and you find it offensive. Well, that sounds like a 'you' problem, doesn't it? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

While I’m sure it didn’t hurt that Avaleina had officially married Legolas by the time he sailed west and thus had become an Official Princess it was by no means the only or even the main reason why she was chosen to be Queen of Greenwood. But I’ll try and keep it to three main points lol
1) She was a warrior for almost the entire war, spending about ⅔ of it as one of Greenwood's Main Captains, along with Legolas, Farlen, and Eloissa amongst a few others. They had trusted her wholeheartedly to lead them and their family in battle & to defend them all to her death if need be. If they could trust her to do that in the worst time in history, the elves of Greenwood are pretty confident she can handle whatever the rest of the 4th age has in store for her.
2) When Thranduil sails west most of Greenwood's population goes with him. In my mind around 80% - 90% of the Silvan elves leave with its King. Taking most other politically competent advisors and council members with it.
2.5) Ava has personally good relations with basically all significant populations left on the contant.
3) The Silvan Elves general population don’t really WANT to be King or Queen. It holds zero appeal to them. And, as stated above, most other elves that MIGHT have been interested in the position left with Thranduil.
In conclusion: Who else could the Silvans possibly have chosen if not Avaleina?
In your fic 'Know You Again' when Thranduil is talking about Tern's finger getting bitten off by the Warg that "Tern was one of the few who still stayed behind with Greenwood's new Queen when Thranduil took the bulk of its people west. "
Is the new Queen Ava??? Did Thranduil appoint her to take the throne when he left?? I HAVE TO KNOW
Hahah yes, the new Queen of Greenwood is Avaleina but the only thing that Thranduil had to do with it was leave and give the remaining Silvan elves a reason to elect a new monarch.

Good News Everyone!! My friends made a part 2!
Denethor: "I've felt alot of emotions throughout my life. I've felt joy at least twice..... never when you're around, though."
Faramir: "I don't even breathe anymore, I just sigh."
Eowyn: "You know, the animalistic blood lust that consumes all women when the line for the bathroom is seven times longer than the men's."
Eomer: "Could you say that again? I was trying to see if that horse over there could read my mind."
Elrond: "Oh, you want my advice? Listen to my previous advice."
Elladan and Elrohir: "We all need a hobby, who's to say that identity theft can't be one of them?"
Celeborn: "Sorry, the only thing we serve in this house is 'I Love & Repect Women Juice'."
Galadriel: "Me? Spy? How dare you insinuate something so horrible, I've no need. I know Everything At All Times without having to stoop to something so low."
Thranduil: "You'd be surprised what counts as good news when your entire life is this horrible."
Galion: "You can tell my boss if you really want to, but I'm pretty sure he's more scared of me than I am or him, so."
Lobelia Sackville Baggins: "It's not about the spoon, okay, ITS THE PRINCIPLE!!!"
Bilbo: "They said I could not to jump, dig under, harm, burn, cut a hole into, or otherwise tamper with their fence. They said nothing, however, about carefully taking the gate off its hinges"
Bree Inkeeper: "Does anybody know the exact location to hit me on the head so that I can forget this entire situation occurred?"
My friends made a list of quotes they could see the fellowship saying from things they've heard me say.
Please enjoy.
Aragorn: I can't take a shower, the other forest animals are going to make fun of me.
Legolas: I've never been as drunk as I plan on getting tonight.
Gimli: I've been winded since 7th grade gym class.
Boromir: I'm just gunna lay here and play dead till you guys get back cause there's a lot more hiking involved than I was promised.
Gandalf: BE GONE, THOT! *exists room at dead sprint*
Sam: God made me short so Im closer to your jugular incase you disrespect my friends.
Frodo: Hey can I borrow some of your will to live, I think I lost mine 5 decisions ago.
Merry: You can never roast me harder than I've roasted myself. In highschool I taped a picture of my face to my hoodie for 'ugly sweater day.' I'm unstoppable.
Pippin: My poor mom, they warned her about contractions but not weed.

I think that if Elrond and Mereneth ever met, they'd become fast buddies. Not on the level that Thranduil amd Celebrian are, for sure, but they'd DEF bond over medicinal herbs and the best way to cure somebody after they touched/ate some poisonous plant or smth like that.
If Legolas got that much of his personality from his mother, I can assure you that Elrond would be dreading wayy less the visits of the Greenwood Royals lol.
(and I also think that he'd need a moment or two to breath the whole new person that Thranduil becomes in her presence. He'd never seen Thranduil so light and happy and quick to smile. I imagine Elrond looking out the window one night and seeing them dancing together under the stars and the branches of the trees. And he'd def notice the changes and how much her death affected him, having seen the person he was before..)
Btw you can def message me to stop if my asks are getting annoying or smth. I just love your 'verse and your oc's (specially ferdan and your version of galion) so much I think about them All The Time lmao.
An Anonymous Ask that had a Very Similar Question to yours: Did Mereneth and Elrond ever met? Either in Imladris or in Valinor? Because since the two of them are healers, they could probably bond over that (and maybe if still in Arda, Elrond would come to dread less the visits from greenwood cause he knew Mereneth liked him, therefore Thranduil wouldn't be as intimidating lmao)
Elrond and Mereneth get along SO WELL. So well. Unfortunately (for Elrond) they don't get a chance to meet until after they are all in Valinor. Tbh almost nobody outside of Greenwood got to meet Mereneth, or even get to know that Thranduil was romantically interested in somebody but especially not that he had gotten MARRIED before Greenwood had already lost its queen.
Admittedly by the time they get to Valinor Elrond had already much improved in dealing with Thranduil compared to = when they first had to interact with each other politically and then more personally once Elrond and Celebrian had gotten married, they visits were still dreaded significantly less once Mereneth had been reunited with her husband.
Perhaps even eagerly anticipated.
I think that the shock Elrond felt about seeing the change in Thranduil would be a bit similar to the shock he felt the first time he saw Thranduil and Little Legolas interacting with one another. But, more. Seeing Thranduil be kind and tender with an elfling was one thing, but seeing Thranduil be so thoroughly in love and completely devoted to another full grown elf was another thing entirely.
A Bonus For Elrond: After Mereneth was back, I also think that Ferdan and Galion would also be slightly less… Like That™™ all of the time. Partly because Thranduil was less snarky so the other two had less practice and opportunity to add their own snarkiness. Partly because, like Legolas, her unrelenting positive attitude and sunny disposition is contagious to even the grumpiest and most jaded of elves.
(Don't worry they aren't getting annoying literally at all and I don't want you to stop, sometimes it just take a bit to answer things so you'll have to be patient af with me but i love it so much pls don't stop)

Please, please, please can we get a sneak peak of "Don't Let Go"??? Please??????? Call me a masochist if you want, but I've been wanting and waiting for you to write a fic about Orophers death for literally forever and I physcially need this. (If it isn't a fic about Orophers deeath, please consider this an official plea.)
I meannnnnnnn if you REALLY want it, here's a little sneak peak 👀
------------------
Ada,” Thranduil said, shocked. Horrified. Devastated.
“Ada, no, no, no, please, no. Ada. Please!” He crumpled to the ground next to where Oropher had fallen only moments ago, the spear that had finally gotten the best of him still embedded in his abdomen.
Thranduil was screaming now. “Please, Ada! Please! Ada you can’t-” A suppressed sob choked away the rest of the sentence.
Orophers arms reached out for his son, desperate. Guilty. Weakening.

Oof, I'll be real with you, this one's sad as fuck man 💀💀 It's set during the Battle of the Last Alliance (and probably should not be read in public under any circumstances), so do with that information what you will.

For the WIP Folder Game: “Part Time War" and/or “On The Contrary”
Somebody else already asked about "Part Time War" so I'll answer the other one!
"On The Contrary" is just a sweet and goofy little family fic about a particualr phrase that Oropher used to say all of the time getting passed down to Legolas (and the other elflings) because Ferdan and Thranduil picked it up from Oropher, and always used it all the time.

Hi, I'm interested in hearing more about your Part Time War wip! (others too but I had to pick one)
Hi! Thanks for tagging me in the game, I appreciate you!
"Part Time War" is titled after one of the things that Legolas says in a very spirited argument between Legolas and Elladan nearing the end of the third age. During the argument Legolas basically insinuates that Elladan and Elrohir are 'playing at war' more than anything, because they can come and go form it whenever it suits them.

7. Greenwood in a box 2
It's the second chapter I had zero intention of writing when I wrote the first. Here's a little snippet of it 🥰
__________________________
"Lord Elrond and his family were not the only things I promised to protect, though.”
Perhaps sensing that it was close to its home and to the ones who loved it the most, the trunk thunked twice as it undid its own locks, flunging itself open.
Both Eloissa and Tern’s expressions melted immediately into a childlike softness that until this very moment Glordindel hadn’t been aware they were capable of making. Eloissa seemed on the verge of tears, so it was Tern who spoke, “I suppose we’ll let you in then. We’ll have to get you an elk, though.”

Rules: Post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. Let people send you an ask with the title that most intrigues them, and then post a little snippet or tell them something about it! and then tag as many people as you have WIPs.
-----------
If I were to post EVERY single WIP that's in my little WIP Journal or Folder we'd be here for days and days. So I settled for listing the first 20 that I've worked on the in the last 6 months, listed in apphabetical order.
Thanks for the tag! I could never tag this many people, so whoever things it would be fun, please feel free to play the game and tag me so that I can see!

Also, one ask based on your last answered one:
How big was Thranduil's friend group back in Doriath? Like we know he was friend's with Luthien and obviously Ferdan, as I think Beleg was mentioned as hanging around them once or twice, but was there anyone else?
And did any of them survive til the end of the fourth age, or they died in some war/life drifted them apart as time went on?
I think that the group of people that Thranduil was FRIENDLY with was quite large when he was still living in Doriath. Much larger than anyone who met him in the third or second age could easily believe. I think that he was on good terms and friendly terms with most of the “”younger”” elves living in Menegroth that he came into regular contact with. Generally speaking, Thranduil was easier to get along with back then, as long as you weren’t trying to tell him what to do you were probably fine. His good naturedness and kindness was a lot more open to the world back then, rather than something that he kept guarded away and sometimes all but denied its existence. He just wanted to have fun and explore with those who also wanted those things.
He wasn’t just there for the vibes, Thranduil WAS the vibes. And others wanted to enjoy those vibes, but he didn’t really strongly care if they were there or not. He was doing his thing either way, probably with his partner in crime.
However, there were still very, very few elves that Thranduil considered to be real, actual, genuine friends of his that he would trust with anything important or private. I think he probably always had around 2 or 3 friends, likely fellow warriors, but always had a best friend that he spent most of his time with. First Luthian and then Ferdan after she passed away.
I think that Beleg was somewhere in between being real friends with him and being friendly with him for the simple reason that he was Thingol’s Chief Marchwarden and was therefore obligated to report certain shenanigans. So while Thranduil enjoyed his company greatly, he could not be trusted with The Shenanigans under any circumstances.
Other than Ferdan and Celeborn (does he count as a friend if they’re related?) In my little universe, Thranduil only has one other friend from Doriath that made it through everything to the fourth age without dying or losing touch. His name is Maedir, he and Thranduil went through their training together and became friends and remained as such. He’s Ferdan’s right hand man when it comes to training new recruits for Greenwood.

Can you explain more of the specifics of the Greenwood Royal family dynamics? Wouldn’t Legolas and Ava dating kinda be like siblings getting together? Not trying to be rude but like :/
No, not really. But i can understand where the confusion might come from. I’ll do my best to explain why it wouldn't be!
I made a little picture to help explain the specific dynamics between all the ‘groups’ that make up the “Greenwood Royal Family" to make this easier to explain.
Tumblr media
But basically, while they all work together on the daily to support and love each other, they're considered to be ““Separate Households””. Each ‘group’ in the picture has their own shared living areas, separate from the other ‘groups’. They're all close together, especially at the start, but they're still separate. The only elflings that are raised more or less as siblings is Ithrae's group (So Therion, Eloissa, Rumien, Tern, and Ava.)
Secondly, aside from Legolas and Farlen, Everybody Involved In The Situation That Makes Up The Greenwood Royal Family Is EXTREMELY aware that they aren't related by blood to anybody else . And they remain aware of it, at all times. The elflings are old enough (and traumatized enough) that they remember they used to have another family, and remember how they lost them.
That doesn't mean that the conglomeration that makes up “The Greenwood Royal Family” doesn't all love each other fiercely, they just love some members a bit differently than others.
Thranduil loves all of the Orphans so very much, and he feels responsible to protect, raise, and guide them into the best elves that they can be. And he does his best to be there for them in the ways that they need when they need it.
But he only has one Son. There is only one Legolas.
Plus, after Amon Lanc fell and the elflings were all left orphans, Thranduil struggled to even keep himself alive through the grief of losing his wife and initially couldn’t take a super duper direct and hands-on role with the elfings until several years later. After their new home had more or less been established.
Which is why it was Ferdan that helped Ithrae the most with them, while Galion looked after Thranduil and Legolas.
(And definitely not because Ferdan loves elfings more than anything in the entitle world no matter how much he grumbles about them.)
So yeah, while they might have been raised very closely together and by the same ‘village’ per say, it’s by no means like dating a sibling
