Letting Go
Being the youngest Madrigal is pressurising for little Antonio. It takes all of the Madrigals and a few friends for him to realise that he is just a kid - and he is allowed to be one.
* “Doctor Ramirez” is my OC!
Warning: Mentions of psychological and emotional stress, mentions of death
Tumblr media
Antonio is the baby of the Madrigals, so it comes as no surprise that his family and the town loves him dearly.
Sometimes he gets upset that that was all he was to them. No matter what he did - naughty or nice - the people around him barely treat him further than a kid.
So when one of the villagers asks him for help with a donkey, instead of Alma or his parents telling him, five-year-old Antonio decided he didn’t have to ask his family for permission.
After stroking the donkey and listening to its weak whinnies, Antonio was a lot more quiet.
The farmer asked Antonio what happened, but the youngest Madrigal is only told him his favourite donkey was tired. The farmer’s smile cheered Antonio up for a brief moment.
As the days passed, Antonio became quieter and stuck to himself. Felix and Pepa were worried sick, barely convinced by Antonio’s forced grin when they asked him what he was worried about.
Dolores kept an ear out as much as she could, but she heard little out of the ordinary. Camilo tried to transform to amuse Antonio, but it didn’t seem to work as well as before.
Julieta made sure to offer Antonio an extra arepa con quest whenever he ate, and while he finished all his food, he still remained as quiet as before.
Then the day came.
Antonio started wailing, quickly summoning Dolores and his parents to his room. He was sobbing while his animals cuddled closely to him, Pico rubbing its beak on his cheek.
Julieta seemed to realise something and rushed out of the Casita. A few minutes later, she returned with the Ramirez mother.
The moment Doctor Ramirez saw Antonio, she asked for some time alone with him.
For a long time, the Madrigal family waited anxiously outside. Pepa was soaked through from her rain, and it took everything in Dolores to not listen in on a private doctor’s consultation. Felix was holding both his wife and Camilo firmly, trying to be brave for them even in his worry.
Alma was wringing her hands in worry, trying to think about what could have happened, until Mirabel took her hand and squeezed it tightly.
Eventually Doctor came out and broke the news to the Madrigals.
Antonio didn’t just check on a donkey. The donkey was too old and constantly hurting. It wanted to die. Antonio was an optimistic young boy who desperately hoped the donkey would pull through.
But as the days passed, the donkey became worse and Antonio heard about it through his other animals. He had nightmares every night about the donkey, but he tried to hide his fear in hopes of getting stronger somehow.
That day, the donkey finally passed, and it sent Antonio into a spiral.
Pepa collapsed into a faint and Felix barely caught her. He was furious - how could someone ask his young son to treat a dying animal?!
Doctor Ramirez pointed out that perhaps Antonio wanted to show he was a grown-up. If the donkey got better, then he could tell everyone how he rescued the donkey, and no one would treat Antonio as a kid anymore.
Antonio was in over his head, but now he needed their support more than ever.
His parents and siblings were the first to open their hearts to Antonio - admitting their own struggles of being a Madrigal.
Every magical Madrigal before him believed they had to prove themselves around the same age he had. They too wanted to grow up quickly.
But they soon found that growing up is harder than they ever thought. And there was nothing wrong with asking for help, or being honest with your emotions.
Pepa and Dolores had to grow up too fast because their gifts were out of their control. That was why they were more lenient on Camilo’s prancing, and why they were protective of Antonio.
But Antonio was brought along on his family’s chores more often, and while he was still too young to even have chores, he saw for himself how it was not as glamorous as he imagined.
It took many days before Antonio could acknowledge that the donkey’s passing was something he could never control. For a while, he was shadowing Julieta - trying to accept that not everyone will recover, even with a tray stacked high with her arepas.
The donkey incident was rarely mentioned again, and the airheaded farmer was eventually informed of and had apologised for his mistake.
It was yet another incident that changed the Madrigals, but also made them closer than ever before.

They Can’t Communicate
Dolores has always been overwhelmed by the sounds and secrets around her. How would she get along with someone who rarely talks?
Tumblr media
For the longest time, Dolores has had to endure the throbbing in her ears from all the sounds around her.
Sure, her gift has helped her find pests, lost children and animals, and even a few cheating couples.
But as the only person with hypersensitive hearing, she was the one that had to endure everyone else.
That was before she met you.
Your mother had sent you to Casita Madrigal with invitations to your younger sibling’s birthday party.
Dolores was the nearest to the door, so she was the first person to meet you. She greeted you warmly, so she was surprised when you held out the invitations without a word.
After a moment, you seemed to realise something and fumbled for the notepad and pencil in your pocket. Dolores watched as you scribbled something, placing the invitations on the side table. When you held up the notepad, her eyes widened.
“Sorry, I’m bad at talking. I didn’t mean to be rude. Those are invitations for my brother’s birthday party.” For some reason, your note made Dolores smile.
In the days before the party, Dolores kept an ear out for any news about you. You were quiet, but the people you met were less so. Apparently you had always been incredibly shy, but you were very reliable and helpful around the village.
At the party, Dolores was the one to approach you. While getting to know each other, Dolores winced at a delighted scream from the children below. When she looked at you once more, she saw you holding out a pair of foam earbuds and a note saying “I get overwhelmed by the sound too. You can try wearing this and see if it helps.”
It helped tremendously.
Since then, Dolores was always spending time with you after her chores. She was almost always wearing the earbuds when she didn’t need her gift. When you found out, you had your doctor mother to advise her on properly caring for her ears and earbuds.
Eventually the rest of the Madrigal family noticed how Dolores seemed much more relaxed, and how she made friends with the quietest villager in Encanto.
Alma definitely had her reservations about your silence, so she sneakily invited you to the Casita while Dolores was out.
To her mild surprise, you spoke with Alma in a very quiet voice. You knew she wanted to talk to you in private because she cared deeply for her family. You would never hurt anyone in Encanto - it’s just that you liked being by yourself a lot more than most.
Dolores came home shortly after, her face twisted in worry and awe at hearing your voice. Alma nodded in approval and pointed her out to you, saying you should come more often.
Pepa and Felix were incredibly supportive of your friendship with their only daughter. Dolores gets bad migraines with the noises she hears everyday, sometimes to the point of becoming bed-ridden. But since you came around, she is even spending more time with the family.
Camilo once tried to fake being Dolores as a prank on you. Luckily you could tell him apart and when Dolores found out, she warned Camilo not to try again.
Camilo may be a prankster but only to make people smile. Seeing how both you and his sister didn’t take his shapeshifting into her too positively, he never did it again. However it did become his mission to become the next person to hear you speak.
Antonio loved being with you as well. He was a talkative and excitable young boy, and you were one of the few people other than Mirabel who had (and made) time to listen to him. He didn’t mind your silence at all - judging by how his animals loved to snuggle up on you, they enjoyed your presence so he will too!

When She Loves The Rain
In which Pepa’s cloud delights a girl who loves the rain, and reveals something Camilo never thought he liked to see
Tumblr media
When your family moved into Encanto, Alma had invited you all to the Casita - like she has done for every new villager. Camilo was done with his chores earlier than usual, so he, Antonio and Mirabel showed you around before lunch.
Camilo was particularly taken with you - delighted with how you met his witty quips and teasing compliments. Your younger brother getting along with Antonio was a welcome bonus.
That was until Pepa came home with an ominously dark cloud, muttering angrily about some women at the bakery grabbing the last of her favourite cake.
Camilo would normally rush to Pepa to calm her down, but Alma just happened to come into the courtyard. When the matriarch’s eyes saw her fuming daughter and then you, Camilo desperately hoped she would not say her usual line-
“Pepa, you have a cloud.” “I KNOW MAMA-”Aaaaand it rained.
Camilo couldn’t help feeling a twinge of embarrassment when you and your sibling gasped at the cold sensation bathing all of you. He loves his mami, but he thought he could keep his curls at least until you returned home.
To his surprise, your sibling ran towards the rain, dragging you along until you both were happily splashing in the growing puddles. Well, you were grinning while your brother did most of the splashing.
Something twitched in Camilo’s heart and he felt his face start to heat up. Instead of screaming or crying in distress like many of the girls in the village who got caught in Pepa’s rain, you seemed to embrace it.
Eventhough your hair and clothes stuck to your skin, you allowed yourself to be strung along by your elated brother, who got Antonio to join in. You were even singing along to their impromptu “Rainy Jump” song.
Soon the rain stopped and Camilo realised his mother now had a rainbow over her head. She was cooing as she looked between your trio, and himself.
After drying off, Dolores and Antonio were happy to loan you and your brother their own clothes while Pepa volunteered to wash your clothes and return them the next day.
Your parents laughed at lunchtime when Pepa and Alma tried to apologise.
“We hardly get rain back at our old village, so the children love playing in it! (Y/N) is always the one who gets everyone to join in!” Your mother teased, and Camilo watched you try to hide a sheepish smile behind a glass of juice.
As time passed, Camilo found himself looking for you whenever he had chores in the village. You always greeted him with a grin, and you became close friends.
Camilo was quite popular himself with the girls of Encanto, but very few enjoyed Pepa’s unexpected rain showed like you do. So you were a regular visitor to Casita Madrigal with your brother.
It came as no surprise that when Camilo asked his family’s help to confess to you, Pepa conveniently made it rain so you two could dance in the courtyard.
Since then, rarely would the day pass without Camilo inviting you to dance - rain or shine.
As for the rest of the family, Pepa and Felix were just delighted that their son was happy. Dolores and Isabela made it a point to tease Camilo about you - making him flicker rapidly between you and himself. Antonio even chimed in by making excuses for you to come over as often as possible.

Being Isabela’s Best Friend
Tumblr media
Isabella was the most graceful, the most beautiful, and the most perfect in the town of Encanto. As the eldest granddaughter of the town’s leader and daughter of the town’s healer, many people admired her.
However Isabela also had her own criticisers who gossiped behind her back, and greedy townspeople who tried to exploit her powers and family name. Adding on the sky-high expectations of being Alma’s first magical grandchild, Isabela had built very thick walls around herself.
You were just another townsperson admiring Isabela, watching her summon flowers with a flick of her wrist almost every hour of the day.
One day, Isabela was decorating your family’s home for an event. On your mother’s request, you offered her a glass of juice. She turned you down, but her practiced smile could not hide the hint of fatigue in her eyes from you.
You heard the gossip, so you asked her if she wanted to make her own drink in the kitchen - that way she could be sure there would be nothing ominous in her drink. After a long pause, she nodded.
It look a very very long time for Isabela to trust anyone, so you have to be very patient. She has practised almost every gesture and rehearsed every word she speaks - so you would also need to be very sensitive to her true body language.
Alma makes the time to speak to her townspeople, so she quickly found out this new person that Isabela spends a little extra time chatting with. It was Alma who invited you to the Casita for lunch without Isabela knowing.
All through the meal, Julieta and Alma asked you about how you and Isabela first met, and what you knew about her. They were testing you on your intentions, and you impressed them both with how genuine and open you were.
You were about to leave with some of Julieta’s arepas when Isabela rushed to meet you. She was a little late meeting you for your usual chat, only to find out from your mother that you were invited to lunch with her elders.
As much as she looked up to them, she knew how protective Alma and Julieta can be. When Alma suggested you come more often, Isabela visibly relaxed and smiled happily at you.
You became Isabela’s only and most trusted friend. When she finally opened up about the expectations, the stress and how she just wanted to be herself, you listened.
You made her feel comfortable in her own skin, without the near-perpetual mask she had to put on for everyone else.
At the same time, you made sure to gently call her out when she was harsh or rude to Mirabel. She tried her best, and you smiled when you noticed them being kinder to one another.
Speaking of Isabela’s sisters, Mirabel had her doubts about her perfect sister’s new friends until she caught you nudging Isabela for being rude to Mirabel. She noticed how Isabela seemed a bit more relaxed around you, and the few times Mirabel was alone with you, she also felt seen.
Luisa made time to say hi to you and help your family. For all the strength and little free time she had, she was very in-tune with what’s going on with her sisters and she appreciated you being there for Isabela.

Camilo’s Birthday Gift
The OC here is my own from a longer series I’m planning. You can read whatever I have planned in my Masterlist under “Ramirez…”!
Tumblr media
Camilo has planned to make something amazing for his girlfriend’s birthday. However, his plans keep getting interrupted by his chores and time is running out.
Camilo has been working on his Sofia’s gift for a good week! His fingers ached and his eyes drooped every night he stayed up but nothing that couldn’t be fixed by his tia’s arepas.
At least, until his chores started piling up.
Suddenly it seemed like every single person in town needed his help - more babysitting, party decorating, people replacing and more of his daily chores. Even Antonio was too busy training his animals to play with his older brother!
The few minutes he was free, he tried to meet with Sofia. She saw him transform nearly every hour and he waved off her concerned questions every time.
Yet every time Camilo went back to his room, he had to force himself to look away from his half-done gift hidden under his bed. Every time, he was telling himself there would be time tomorrow as his head landed on his pillow.
Now he had only a few days left, and so much more he needs to do to finish his gift. His mind was buzzing - torn between just buying another gift, and staying up even later to finish. When was the last time he slept on time? Or even spent more than a few minutes with his vida?
Camilo was so so tired - of his chores, of the people who insist on him transforming to their whims, of the very little time he had to spend with his family. What’s the use of his gift if he can’t make the people he truly cared about happy? Before he knew it, Camilo had worried the afternoon away and it was nearly time for dinner.
All his frustration and sadness at not being able to finish his gift ended up at the next person to knock on his door. He rarely got upset, being the “happiest and goofiest Madrigal” after all. But for once-
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” He yelled at the door, cramming his face into his pillow as he screamed in sheer frustration. In a split second, his body turned numb at hearing the voice at his door.
“Cami? Pepa wanted me to tell you it’s time for dinner.” Oh no. Oh no no no. Not her. He just screamed for the first time at the girl he likes the most. Camilo scrambled to get up, almost tripping over the pillow he flung and ripping the door open. It was her.
All he saw was the hurt confusion on her face, and his mind just blanked. He tried to speak, instead transforming quickly into some of the villagers, then Antonio, before he returned to himself with a killer headache.
“Cami, I’m here. I got you. It’s going to be okay.” Her voice murmured and he could finally take a breath. He realised he was in her arms, her body gently warming his in a firm embrace. He finally sniffed and wrapped his arms tightly around her, murmuring apologies over and over.
“Do you still need time alone? Dolores probably heard us already, so I might be able to convince Alma to let us eat in your room.” He nodded, reluctantly letting her go. She gently wiped his cheeks with her thumbs, smiling warmly at him.
“I’ll be back in a few minutes with our food.”
Camilo let her in after he nudged his secret gift further under his bed, staying quiet until a plate stacked high with his favourites was placed next to him. He ate quietly with her, appreciating the silence and her side pressing against his. Reminding him that he was not alone.
When he finally talked, he gradually started sounding like his mother’s overthinking. He told Sofia about his frustration, how he never seemed to have enough time, how everyone was telling him what to do, and how he just wanted to be just Camilo for once. Things he only told her and his parents - but he was so much more upset now after having to do so many chores nearing a special date.
Sofia just listened, holding his hand when he started clenching and unclenching his fists until his nails dug into his palms. She rubbed her thumb in circles on the back of his hand, silently telling him she was there. By the time he finished ranting, he felt mentally drained and was leaning against her with his head on her shoulder.
“Thank you for telling me Camilo.” And just like that, Camilo felt heard. The guilt and frustration in him seemed to melt away as she told him, like every other time he needed to hear, that he was enough and he did everything her could. That he is entitled to have the time to be himself, and that he should never be guilty for it.
When he was finally ready to leave his room, he let Sofia bring him to his mother’s room. For a moment, he felt bad that he didn’t spend as much time as he could have with his girlfriend. She simply smiled and cupped his cheek, pressing a soft kiss to it and whispering a “See you tomorrow.”
Once Sofia left, Camilo saw Pepa’s cloud flitting between a rainbow and a drizzle. All he could do was hug her tightly and cry. Pepa and Felix listened to him, and after he revealed why he was taking so long with his gift, Felix suggested a brilliant idea.
The next day, Abuela allowed Camilo the day off and Camilo got to work. He was knocking on all his cousins’ and sibling’s doors. They were more than happy to help him once they heard about the gift he had planned.
The delight in Sofia’s face made Camilo’s week worth the wait and effort. A ruana made in the same golden fabric as his, but made even more special with the efforts of his family.
Dolores had gotten Mariano to write a poetic one-liner, and Mirabel embroided it along the edges of the fabric. Isabela made Sofia’s favourite plants to soak the ruana in their scent. Luisa had called in a few favours with the villagers to help - coming up with fireworks, paints and even a date at Sofia’s favourite bakery. Antonio had his animals distract play with Sofia and Mateo before her surprise birthday party at the Casita, and welcomed her family with a majestic bird performance.
For most of his childhood and pre-teen years, Camilo felt that he had to help everyone by being someone else. He forgot that he too needed help sometimes, and he is grateful that the people closest to him sees him as Camilo - the sensitive and kind teenaged boy who happens to have shape-shifting powers.

Ramirez OCs
I am planning an Encanto series featuring my OCs - the Ramirez family. There will also be one-shots of the Ramirez family in Encanto in the future :)
Feel free to imagine the Ramirez family with any skin colour or hair you like!
La Familia Ramirez
One of the newest families to Encanto. They had to abandon their last village after a tragedy destroyed most of what they have known. Some say they were the only survivors.
Carlos Ramirez, 46
A friendly builder who makes friends easily. He tries to keep Anita grounded, but there are times when even he can’t change her mind.
He is a loving family man who cares deeply for his wife and two children - especially Sofia despite her not being his biological daughter.
Anita Ramirez, 44
A family doctor who studied overseas, but was disowned by her wealthy family when she got pregnant with Sofia during her studies. Sofia’s baby daddy was also from a rich family so they married him off to someone else. Nowhere to go, Anita moved to Carlos’ village and fell in love with him.
She never got over her parents’ disownment so she relies a lot on validation from other people, and denying that it was her way of coping with never meeting her parents’ expectations.
Sofia Ramirez, 15
A budding artist with a flair for painting and clay sculpting. She is almost always helping treat minor injuries at her mother’s clinic, creating some art, or spending time with her younger brother.
Her favourite place is the Breaking Room at the clinic - where she happily smashes her old and failed art pieces. (She promises that the Room was Anita’s idea.)
She has a long way to go before reaching her mother’s medical skills, but she is quite good at telling people’s emotions from their body language.
Mateo Ramirez, 4
A bubbly young boy who loves exploring the new places he finds. His endless talking and questioning usually cheers up anyone around him, but he also knows when being quiet is more comforting.
He is closest with his sister, who homeschools and plays with him whenever she can. Seeing her smile makes him the happiest kid in the town.
He loves nature - he even has a little scrapbook where he scrawls on the animals and the plants he find on nature trips with his family. His favourite part is when he opens the scrapbook to see his drawings painted without him knowing. (He knows it was Sofia, which makes him love them more.)

may we please have a Luisa x fem/gn plus size reader? it would be so cute luisa to simp for someone whos body is very soft compared to hers (yk bc shes JACKED) also you do write this and the reader please not be insecure :") okay thats all please & thank you
Thanks for asking! I don’t do LGBTQ+ relationships as mentioned in my rules, so I will write a more friendship-centric one. Hope you don’t mind too much!
Being Luisa’s plus-sized friend
Tumblr media
Luisa may be the strong one who’s rarely nervous.
But she knows how it feels to look very different from everyone else.
She first meets you when your parents needed a hand renovating the storefront. You were the one to offer her your family’s sweet-looking cinnamon buns with iced tea.
Then the kids came over. They were teasing you about your size, about how you were a toasted marshmallow that no one can eat.
Luisa’s pointed glare silenced them but the damage was done. She could easily see through your watery smile - she herself gave one too many of her own.
At some point, she became a regular customer (well, a regular since you rarely took her money). Her mom Julieta made awesome cheesy dishes, but the baked cupcakes and buns at your family’s bakery make her cheeks ache in a good way.
It made sense to become friends with you while you manned the counter. When Luisa managed to find a few minutes of free time, she would lay down on the hammock in the bakery chatting with you.
She watched as the villagers joked or teased you about your size, and how even your parents joined in. Yet you always tried to keep a smile.
One day, Luisa was having an incredibly busy day and just missed the bakery closing. She was tired and all she wanted was a cold glass of tea. Before she could drag her feet back home, you came out with a tray. Her favourite cinnamon buns, a tall glass of iced tea, and a new bun flavour. Just for her, you said.
Instead of taking the tray, she hugged you tight and relaxed into your surprising squishy body. She could almost fall asleep until she felt your hand gently patting her back.
Immediately she panicked and let you go, apologising for hurting your body and carefully looking you over. You were perfectly fine - your body was built for big hugs.
From then on, you and Luisa forged a close friendship. You were there when she needed to rant about having to carry an entire town’s burdens, and constantly show strength. In her words, your hugs were legendary for making her feel she was floating in the sky.
You understood how she felt. While you were never insecure about your body, you too felt that it would be easier to have another body. Less expectations and limitations, as your mother so “kindly” put it. Your parents meant well, but they too were concerned that you were too big to be healthy.
Luisa invited you to a Madrigal family meal and introduced you to her tio Felix, tia Pepa, and her parents - the people who accepted her uncommon figure the most.
You got along so well with them, and Julieta was more than happy to exchange recipes, especially those cinnamon buns that Luisa raved about.
You found a safe space for yourself in the Madrigals, and it all started when you offered a snack to the strongest Madrigal in the town.

Being Mirabel’s Best Friend
Tumblr media
Mirabel has always been the black sheep in her family simply for not having a gift. Most of the villagers treat her as someone related to a magical Madrigal, but almost never her own person.
Not you, and she values you even more for it.
Whether it’s helping you with your chores, or just spending time with you, Mirabel enjoys every minute.
She felt like she could be truly herself, and she was acknowledged and valued as her own person whenever she is with you.
Many times she asks herself if it was too good to be true, whether you might be using her to get closer to another Madrigal - like Senorita Perfecta Isabela.
But no - you never talk about Isabela unless Mirabel brings her family up herself.
It might have taken weeks for Mirabel to convince herself that you were truly who she hoped you were, and that was when she felt she could show more of her vibrant personality.
She would happily teach you how to sew and embroider from scratch.
Just like how you would listen to Mirabel’s every word, and reassure her whenever Alma was a bit to harsh or her parents just missed what she needed to hear
Mirabel would drop everything if you were sad or in trouble. She knew how it felt to be alone, and she would not allow her best friend to feel the same way.
There were times where you actually had to tell Mirabel that she didn’t have to do so much, but as much as she tries, you end up accepting that Mirabel is a very giving person.
Julieta and Agustin had their reservations, but once they saw how much more happy and vibrant Mirabel was around you, they welcomed you every time. Julieta was always bringing a tray of arepas to your house or for you to bring back.
Luisa and Isabela were less present, but they too wanted to make sure Mirabel was in good hands around you.
Luisa once chatted with you and she realised why Mirabel was so attached to you when you noticed Luisa’s own pressure. Luisa was a busy woman, but at she soon found herself befriending her sister’s best friend as well.
Isabela was more discreet, sneaking glances as she goes around town blooming flowers for whoever needs them. She may be harsh on Mirabel, but she won’t stand for anyone preying on her sister. She grew to trust you the more she saw Mirabel open her heart to you.
You supported Mirabel in a way that her magical family misses, but you also made sure to remind her that she was just as much a Madrigal as them.
